-Knowing alot about technology, mainly computers.

-Desiring the future to be somewhat like the way the guild describes it.

-A strong interest in elecronics.

some random rivethead...

Agree. biggrin The cyberpunk genre reflects a technological dystopian world. In this world are those who are highly adept at the technology and they fight to stop the world from becoming even more of a technological waste. These are your cyber punks.

CyberPunks are equal parts cyber and punk.

Knowledge of technology makes you a nerd, geek, etc. You have to have the punk attitude along side of it... see the corruption in order and work to revive the purity in chaos. Use your Technical Knowledge to bring down the corrupt, influence the world around you, and create a general sense of Chaos...

as a Perfect Example:

S. E. Bob "Snake" Plissken of Escape from NY/LA had little to no knowledge of the inner workings of the technology he used, but that didn't stop him from using it to raise a formidable amount of hell with it.

haveing tech isnt the same as knowing tech. a basic street thugh with a cyber eye may not know jack about the intagration of a cybernetic superconductive spinal replacement.

cyberpunks are people who have a edge and know how to use it. cyber would refer to the age and the punk would refer to the fact your a thug. you carry out missions. thats it

you still call a guy with all bioware a cyberpunk

Here is the collective (Wikipedia) take on it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk

For me, cyberpunk is science fiction armed with all the weapons and tools of our technological status quo. It is fantasy with a reality check. It is an educated guess at our tomorrows.

Cyberpunk is a DIY attitude, a mentallity with an edge that you could cut tin cans on, gagging on the digital world; it's pixelated and wired, altered, modified, strapped in and hands-on...this isn't some casual user, a kid looking for free music or shitty DVD rips, this is someone using that tech to get what they want. They're manipulating it, they're making it work for them. They may not understand how it works, but they know how they can make it work.

Thank you, thank you. A more concise answer would be, "I am."

Also, when I wrote, "someone using that tech to get what they want," I meant in a sense broader than free music or DVD rips. Just in case there was any confusion.
