As an exchanger, it has come to my attention (and some of you may already know this) that the value of several 2003 donation items have significantly inflated.

I believe it started with the devil tails, which started out as 1.6 million gold and jumped to 2.5 million+ in just a few hours. It's disgusting. I personally saw it go for 1.6 million, the next morning it was 1.7 million, by the end of the day it was 2.5 million. What's sad is now it's probably worth over three million.

Once the tails rose, every other item rose with it. Or at least every item earlier than the tails itself.

And now I hear from GCG's update that a single user is trying to inflate the prices of Sept 04s. It's crazy. One person on two mules, trying to put the Clips or Sept letters in the vends for 20k+.

What's even more sickening than the rapid inflation itself is the fact that a user (and maybe some friends?) is doing this intentionally out of spite. It's unimaginable, but it's true.

Unfortunately, I can't really go into further details, because, honestly, I shouldn't know who did it and why myself.

But... discuss. Discuss the inflation, what you think about it, theories, etc.

my opinion is that people on gaia just wanna get as much gold as they can and try and be the richest they can be, some exchangers who try and get alot of gold by trying to manipulate the prices forget that this was origonally a "forum" meaning, you talk to people and make new friends.
the mods put in items for avatars so you can have fun playing around with different outfits. people keep getting greedier and greedier on gaia, i am not saying this about everyone, i met people like that in the past.
well, this is what i think, people try to raise prices of items to get rich, this is not even real, what are you even gonna do with gaia gold, it's not gonna help or prepare you in life...common!

well, that's my idea, you can tell me i'm wrong if you like...but i'm sticking with my idea. i wish the prices would just drop back to the old day's when d tails were like 700k or so and not 2 million... stare

._.;; Honestly, I fear. I have been questing for a Sash for so long, and then to have it snatched out while it is just in my reach scares me.

I weep for those Tail questers that were so close and now have to bloody freaking start practically all over again. T.T

I think it's ridiculous. Deliberately trying to inflate the prices of donation items for no reason other than to make them cost more is ridiculous. Of course, donation items gradually cost more because they are limited edition items. Obviously the older ones are going to cost more over time, but a big part of it is the popularity of an item. (Most recent example: March 05 items.)

In general, it seems that the popularity of an item often goes in waves; for awhile, the OMG hat was really popular and it seemed everyone was questing for one. Now it's the devil tail... Naturally prices are going to increase some due to the popularity of the item, but the level at which the inflation has...inflated...gets unbelievable. I don't know why the prices have been getting really ridiculous. Maybe it has to do with the constant flood of new Gaians; more people equals more demand of a popular item, causing the price to increase. Personally, I think a lot of it has to do with less HAM-ified Gaians pricing the item at what they believe others will be willing to pay for it. And if the item is popular enough, that price can be rather intense; people are going to pay pixelated arms and legs for an item they really want, if they don't know they could get a better deal...which often tends to be the case. sweatdrop And of course the Marketplace...*rolls eyes* Way too many people are completely dependent on the Marketplace for items they want; they don't bother to check the Exchange anymore, and I know it's because the Marketplace is so less personal and simpler. But people know they don't have to deal with their customers directly so much in the Marketplace, and they put items up for whatever price their little brain conjures. And many Gaians that completely depend on the Marketplace for all their rare item needs don't realize that overpricing is commonplace there, and they don't notice the difference. >.<

But back to my original point, deliberately trying to increase the value of an item is really stupid, and I don't see how one person or even one group of people can successfully pull it off. I mean, in the real world, if a gas station said, "Hm, I don't think gas prices are nearly high enough. ( gonk ) I'm going to raise my prices so as to increase the cost of gas in general." It's not going to work. People are going to look at the crazy new prices at that station and go, "WTF? I'm certainly not buying at that station. There are a ton of other gas stations around with much more reasonable prices." And that station is, in general, going to lose business.

*looks her rant over* Hm...guess I didn't really make a point so much as I did complain. xd

I get tired of getting tired! wait.... xd

But yes, I shalln't give up! NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER SURRENDER! Was the motto of my thread before the first one was eaten... xp Now I am a bit more laid back.

And Jaide? You probably never heard of the Exchange Whore Oldbies... >_>;; If ANY single group could wreak havoic on the Exchange, it would be them. Thankfully, from what I heard from an insider, they are nice, sweet Gaians! ^.^

I've heard of them, but I'm not well versed on the subject. ^^; But generally speaking, in most cases, it would be difficult for one group to do that much permanent damage. 3nodding But of course there are always exceptions. heart

*enter fearless leader-type person*

I... love you all.
And I... hate inflation with a vengeance only slightly less than that of the Punisher.

I tend not to keep track of the high-end donation item prices, out of sheer don't-get-your-hopes-up-ness. But I have noticed the steep incline they've been taking.

Maybe the sellers assume that if someone has one million, they can get two million easy.
There's really no reason other than greedy-@$$ Gaians.
The EW-oldbies are a little more level-headed than the newer ones that just got their stuff and are itching to sell it. Their auctions are fair and they don't ask high prices (well, mostly. And that's usually the autobuy).

I know I always say that if I got one, I wouldn't sell for an uber-insane price. Now I'm mad.

If I ever get a donation item as rare as a devil tail, I will sell it for friggin' half price.
Lot of good that does, I know. xp In the end, though, it's all up to us individually.
Or HAM-dividually. heart

*claps* Well said fearless leader! xd heart

I always had that view on Fairy wings. If I ever get them, I'd sell them for only 30k instead of like 39.5k.

<.<;; Donation items, I am afraid I would wear... XD

;.; I am so greedy. Shame on Icy!

I'm the same way though. XD Donation items are too much fun to sell, in a lot of cases. Unless you have multiples...

I'm definitely with our Fearless Leader on this; if you sell a high-end item for even half price, you'd still be making a hefty profit. And everyone walks away happy. 3nodding
