I was in 4th year japanese, but I'm graduated, so I guess I'm not really in class anymore. I still consider Beecken-sensei to be my Japanese teacher, though. She's japanese, but married an american, hense the non-japanese name.

i took the two beginner courses at my old university, and now i'm registered to continue on with the next level at my new one in september. biggrin so i'm all happy about that. no idea who my new sensei will be. i kind of miss my old one, uzawa-sensei, only because she was a little bit quirky without knowing it (though she was pretty kibishii).

I just finished my third year of Japanese, which is as far as my college goes with the language. But that's fine because I'm graduating! whee I've had a bunch of teachers over the years, but this past term were Hatano-sensei and Nagatomi-sensei. Hatano-sensei was new this year, but she was really energetic and quirky and fun. Nagatomi-sensei is awesome too - I've had her as my sensei right from Japanese I.

I used to study Japanese at school, but I graduated and haven't found the time to continue any official study. The teachers at high school were unusual, the school offered French and Japanese, and for some reason, we had a Japanese person teaching French, a French person teaching Japanese (he used to always go on a bout how Japanese is more useful than French), and another French staff member who taught both French and Japanese.

I'm an entirely self taught student for two reasons. One: I love the language, and love learning about it. Two: There are no Japanese classes anywhere within my city, much less my county (nearest place teaching the stuff is in Culiver City)I'm hoping this'll change when I hit college, but it's lookin' doubtful..

I'm just wrapping up my last lessons today in a Japanese "crash course". It was originally inteded for those going on a Japanese Exchange for 2 weeks but my friend and I butted our way in ^^.
Next year I'm hoping to continue it with her at my local community college. That would be offically level one for me then.

At the university I took Japanese with Tomasi-sensei (he's Italian, but lived in Japan for 9 years) and it was an absolute joy. I have yet to meet another teacher half his equal in enthusiasm and patience with his students. Sadly I won't be able to take classes with him next year as he's not teaching the 300-level, but I'll have great memories (and grammar!) forever.

I'm first year using the Rosetta Stone program teaching myself. It really works. I also can read anything in hiragana (even if I don't know what it means), some things in katakana (I often guess what those words mean because alot of them are American/English words), and I can read alot of kanji.

I take Japanese classes on Wed. nights since my school doesn't offer it. We aren't on a paticular level or anything. But my teacher's name is Yoshiko Conelly. (she married her English teacher then moved here) XD
