I'm obsessed and I love it. I can't wait for the next book to come out and I've been looking to start my own stories like it.

If Eragon were real. If Eragon were human Galbatorix would be dead by my hand.

I think it's okay, but I don't really like Eragon as a charater. He's rather boring.

Eragon is truly an awesome book. Christopher Paolini's words are like birds singing in the sun. He's an amazing author. I can't wait for the movie and the videogame! It's going to be so cool! 3nodding

Yeah, Eragon is retarded. But the books are pretty good.

I like the books... Like the style of writing... HATE the over character developement.

I must be the voice of dissent... Paolini has prospect, true, but here's how I view the books.
Paolini is well versed in Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and all the science fiction and fantasy classics. He absorbed them....

And vomited them up on a page, calling it Eragon.

They are far too similar to Tolkien's work. The language and cultures for dwarves and elves are practically carbon copies. It's just really unoriginal. And I don't care for his writing style for the simple fact that every few hundred to a thousand words he throws in some random one I have to look up in the dictionary. These words don't fit in the voice and it just feels like he's flaunting the fact that he knows them. It's obnoxious.

Love, love, LOVED Eragon!! However, Eldest did not meet my expectations...JUST GET TOGETHER ALYA AND ERAGON DAMMIT!

Oh and Mekaama, that's what I like about his writing. it's like reading Tolkien, without reading Tolkien.

Even here? EVEN HERE? AGGGGH!!!! scream
Hated. Hated. Hated. Hated. Hated. The. Inheritance. Trilogy.
*pants* Sorry, had to get that out of my system...

OVER CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT? W--
Are the characters you like 0-D, then? I didn't realize that was possible.
In Eldest, it was every five to fifty words, not hundred to thousand. Gods.

I agree. And it's actually not just Tolkien's work that it resembles. He also writes using portions from the Heralds of Valdemar series, Harry Potter (In very small ways), and the books by Ursula K. Le Guin (sp?)

I read Eragon, and it was okay -- a bit overdone, and it did sound a lot like Tolkien. Plus, the "Ancient" language strongly reminds me of Latin ("Arget" means silver in Latin -- who knew?)

Then I read Eldest. I agree, it did sound like word-vomit, and his overuse of description is notorious. The character development was poor, and his use of stereotypes is just sad.

Yes, I'm a hater. Get used to it.

I agree. And Saphira, Brom, and Arya's act-like-a-four-year-old fits were a source of constant amusement.

Aari-
Ahh but don't you know why it reminds you of Harry Potter? Because they are quite alot like Lord of the Rings aswell!

Mekaama-
I agree with your point about the dwarves and the elves being so much the same.

But regardless of all that I like the books! The movie is out now. I haven't seen it yet and I'm almost worried about going to see it... Eragon looks a little too.... cutesy.... He reminds me of Peter Pan....

While Eragon was an entertaining read in 6th grade, looking back on it now, I think it's pretty poorly written.

Paolini should have come up with some of his own unique ideas, or at least tried to put a different spin on some of the ones he borrowed. With a good editor, Inheritance could have had a lot more promise, but as it is, it's pretty mediocre.
