-added updates section aswell as roderick of the Greenelands to NPCS contacts.

Welcome/intro

As a note this isn't that relevent to the campaign so if your just here for that, feel free to skip ahead.

This thread will be for all the setup required for a pbp campaign.

If haven't already guessed I am planning a play by post or pbp campaign here in the guild. I have a moderate amount of dming experience irl but this will be my first pbp camapign I have DMed.

The idea for this campaign originally spawned when due to unforunate circumstances by rl campaign had to go on hiatus. I decided that untill I time we could get the campaign rolloing again I didn't want my dming skills to go to waste, not to mention the hundreds of dollars of books invested in this. I had recently got into playing pbp quite a bit on various sites and decided to give it a go myself. Originnaly I designed this camapign to be played with my friends in the mean time but have since expanded it. I have found that running parrel campaigns are much easier than I had first thought.

This will be one of two or three version of the same camapign. Thus I will be running near the start very similar adventures in all of the parties and from there branch out dpending on the players input. This ends up benifiting everyone involved as the setting, npcs and eventually the overall plot will be more flushed out.

Also note with as much typing is involed I haven't taken the time to check for typos sweatdrop

This thread will be updated as neccessary. Completely upadted posts will have a note at the top of the post and partially updated will have new info in red text.

(Hopefully to be organized in the future for easier reading)

Campaign Premise

You are all friends of Roderick of the Greenlands, a good hearted and well learned bard, who has travelled the continent as an adventurer and made quite a good anme for himself. Him along with a group of fellow entrepeneurs have recently set up an adventure's guild in Empira. He has asked your group to be the first representatives of the guild in Fontra.

You start in the recently built guild house in central Silanus, being among the very first members of the guilds new branch. It is your job to give the guild a good anem and expand it through the country. You will be given assignements to carry out that could be anything from exploring newly discovered ruins to fending off an attack of locath from a port.

Regional info:

The setting for this campaign will be a homebrew country called Fontra (seen above).

The counrty is covered with an expanisive water way made up of natural rivers and some later man made canals that server as it's major form of transportation.

It is a rather large country It lies on a central continent populated in different areas by pretty much all of the major races.

Surronding Countries

Empiria: It's borders include Empiria to the west, a small but highly productive that was once at at height of know technological advancement but that was lost in a major war 200 or so years pervious with it's other neighboring country, Andora. Empiria has a large amout of open trade with Fontra and have good realations. Empiria is also holds the formost center on Arcane knowledge in the form of the continent's largest university, Unseen University. (Yes I pried the name from a book, cookie for anyknow who knows where.) Many sorcerors and wizards satrted their arcane learning here and now populate the amjority of the continent.

Elanor: To the east is Elanor, a highly pascifistic country. It's points of interest are the capital church of Pelor that lies in the capital.

The Amadis Desert: To the north is the largest know desert in thw world. It that takes up the majoirty of the circular continent lying at the center. It takes up almost 50% of the entire land mass of the continent. The rest being divided between divided between the six coutries spaced around it. There have been rumors of large grous of desert bandits calling this place home.

The other 3 countries
Are Dentro, Andora, and Ardoris.

Dentro: The is the the largest country on the continent, it is filled with mostly untamed forest as well as a pair of large mountain ranges surrounding it's central region. It lies to the east of Ardoris and the north of Elanor.

Ardoris: This is an oriental country to the west of Dentro and north of Andora, They are partially xenophobic are keep their culture seperate from the rest of the continent.

Andora: It sits south of Ardoris and west of Empiria. It has more or less reovered from the great war with Empiria but has since completly lock down it's eastern border and kept to it's self for the last 200 years so not much is know on it's curtrent state.

Provinces and major cities.
The country of Fontra is divied into ten provinces (in bold) with major city or points of interest bulleted underneath

Kentrikos
A semi central/northern province of mostly open plains. It's population is mostly huamns and halfings but almost any race could be found here with some searching

-Silanus
The capital city of Kentrikos lieing on it's southern border.
Because of it's position on the rivers is a central trading location for the the entire region.
This city also holds the recently opened adeventure's guild house

Chersonis
This province oppucpies the south east corner of the country. It has a long swampy penninsula that curves out from it's coast. While humans tend to occupy the majority of this province a large tribe of liazrdfolk lay claim to the poreia peninnsula.

-Seawall
The capital of Chersonis, this small town lies on the edge of the poreia penninsula. It is a stop on the coastal highway

-Orios
A small town on the eastern border. The final stop on the coastal highway.

Saferios
A province of mostly hills and highlands surronded by rivers. It lies just south of Kentrikos. There is a community of whisper gnomes living amongst the hills here. There is also some human settlements on the coast.

-Sithrizo
A large whisper gnome community that lies within the hills of Saferios.

-Lithos
A medium sized town that ahppens to be the capital of Saferios. It rests on the coast and is a stop on the coastal highway.

The Graphikos islands
This island chain it just off the coast from poreia peninnsula. Producing exotic fruit, they have a large amout of trade with Empira by merchant ships that curve around the peninnsula, through Stilanta waters and along the coast to port Thelassa in Empira. For the commerce many humans have settled here. There is also small tribe of jungle elves deep in the forests of Karpofos, one of the islands. There is also a large colony of aquatic elves closby in the waters.

-Karpoforos
One of the three major islands, know for tropical fruit which is sold internationally.

-Nisi
One of the three major grafikos islands. While it isn't the most commercial it has the largest population.

-Kala
The southern most of the islands. It is covered mostly with dense jungle occupied by a tribe of jungle elves.

Epidor
The northern most Province of the country, it extends into the Amadis desert. Again this land has been settled by humans but there is also a large desert elf community living here on the edge of the desert.

-Oasi
A fairly large town built around an oasis in the desert. Has a large population of desert elves along with humans and halflings.

Agrotima
A large porvince of plains convereted into farmlands. It's surrounded by rivers and man made canals to form an irrigation system. This province is mostly humans and halflings as they tend to be the best farmers.

-Athonos
The Capital of Agrotima. This is the center of the farming communty of the entire province.

Lofos
Filling the south-western corner of the nation, this region is mostly highlands rolling into the Ria mountain range that seperates Fontra from Empira. Some gnomes from further north have settled here along with some whipser gnomes from further east.

-Oros pass outpost
A large outpost sits along the entrance to Oros pass, one of the few places where crossing the Ria mountain range is possible. It is one end of the coastal highway. It has over the years grown as commerce through the pass increased and is now infact the large and capital city of the province.

Michani
This region is mostly comprised of valleys and mountaings as it lies on the western edge within the Ria mountain range. This region is controlled by a large gnomish clan that spans the northern Ria mountain range. There are however some village within open to visitors of any race

-Arcum
A small gnomish town at the base of The Ria mountain range. The capital of Machani.

-Limani
A small satelite town of Arcum on the waterways.

Dasio
This large untamed forest lays claim to almost the entire eastern border. While there are no major human settlements both wild elves and wood elves call this place home.

Omalos
A southern province on the coast. It is made up of a mix of hills and plains. While humans settled orginally, holding the nation capital, now holds a mix of almost everyrace kin to Fontra.

-Galanos
The capital city of Fontra. It lies on the coast just between Lofos, And Omalos.

UPDATED

Houserules and guidelines

-I will not introduce "realism" into a system that is ill-suited for it. Internal consistancy is far more important. This means that even if you have a monkey gripped greatsword that's about 8 feat long it will not have reach.

-At first level Sorcs gain eschew materiels as a bonus feat. This is done as I feel that Sorcs have always been slightly lower tier class than the wizard but yet incredibly fun to roleplay. Eschew materiels seems to fit their inate ability and it's overpowered but gives a nice feel to them.

-I will often do rolls without the players knowledge irl mainly for skills like listen, sense motive, search, and various other skills to prevent meta-gaming. I will also do this in combat to speed thing up incase of a large number of enemies. This also pervents you from figuring out it's stats through the bonuses it has to it's roll.

-I know I make mistakes and sometimes this can cause major problems. Feel free to mention anything but please don't argue I perfer not to ahve invoke rule zero that often.

-outside of the OOC category all posts should be made in character.

-large magnetic fields can disrupt magic casuing it to be unreliable. Don't ask why... it just does.

-In place of Diamonds in many resurrection spells you must use a rare gem called a Claireo.

In place of a black onyx gem in many undead creating spells you must use a rare gem called a Skia.

Character Creation

2nd level
Starting Gold: 1000 (no more 250 can be spent on any one item.)
34 point buy

Supplments I have are mainly, the complete series, draconomicon, libris mortis, minitures, spell compodium, races of dragon, manual of the plains, arms and equipment guide. Some of whitch I may have lent out to a friend so I may need to ask questions about some things from those supplements anyways.

Races- Non racial hitdie, non leveladjustement, Core races plus any subraces of them case by case. Ie whisper gnome is non core but is a subrace of a core race so it's good. However a dragonborn for instance while it has no level adjustement or racial hit dice still woudn't be allowed. Any questions about a race you would like to play just ask.

Using regional races may be easier to fit into the setting, these are: Human, rock gnomes, Desert elves, wild elves, wood elves, Aquatic elves, Halflings (Lightfoor), Halflings (Tallfellow), half elves, whisper gnomes

Base classes: Anything from core, minitures, and the complete seris. I perfer to stick with base classes I know and have good acess to so that will most likely be all for now. This means no pcions sadly.

PrCs: Anything from core, complete, draconomicon, libris mortis, races of dragon, minitures, and manual fo the planes. Make sure to get approval before taking any PrCs however as I may or may not put ingame story roleplay requirements to tailor fit them to the setting. Any thing else prc wise you can ask me and I can see if I have a friend with access to the book or can get it from a library.

Alignement: Any good, since you are friends of Roderick of the Greenelands to start with. If you would like to play a non-good alignment class Pm me and I might stretch the class requirements a bit on a case by case basis. Ie something like a hexblade but probably not a blackguard or true necromancer for instanace.

I would perfer you use a 3eprofiler for your sheets http://www.sylnae.net/3eprofiler for example. The affor mentined site is also nice as you can then allow me to edit your char sheets so I can update your exp and other things so that it will always matach what's in my notes.

Check the region info for some info on the setting, incorpating that into your back story would be great as it allows nice plot hooks and is great for roleplaying.

When your done make sure to get your character approved with me, incase you've used somehting from a supplement I don't have and so I can just make sure there aren't any mistakes.

Approved Characters:
Tourin Bresc -Mostlyfiller
Adrian MacLeod -Armored Locus
Affir -Oskar90
Mira-BloodOnWhitePetals
Tajara -Redkite

Infromation bookkeeping

This post will keep track of important information gained during gameplay for the party, such as NPC contacts, and important locations.

NPCs:
Roderick of the Greenelands: a bard who was travelled the continent in his adventures. In that time he has made many friends including all of the pcs. He has more or less settled down now in the Capital of Empiria where he runs a recently founded adventures guild. The guild has spread accross the country and now roderick has plans on expanding into Fontra. There is now a guildhouse set up in Silanus and is building the foundation of this new branch from trusted contacts he has made in his travels and has in that respect contacted the pcs.

Diana Shira: A good friend of Roderick. She is currently running the adventurers' guild in Silanus. She is quite resourceful and has many contacts in the area. She is most likely thr first person in town to know when something important is happening and can get the party all the info needed for each adventure as it happens.

Ethan Brighton: The innkeeper of the local Golden Dragon Inn & Tavern. He will give the pcs free stay upon showing their official badge.

Enki Van der Zee: A boatman who knows the riverways like the back of his hand. He has some kind of connections to Diana.

Current date: The ingame curretn date is the fifthteenith date of the month of Anoixi. I'll try to get a complete calender up soon.
Important dates: N/A

Story Recap

So far the group has all met and joined up with the guild. Diana has also just assigned them their first mission: to find out what has happened to the lighthouse on the Poeria penninsula. They made Their way down to the docks to get transportation with a friend of Diana's by the name of Enki Van der zee.

Should we submit the links to the characters sheets here, or just PM them to you when we're done?
PostPosted: Mon May 22, 2006 1:58 pm

Thanks for the fast response. Either would be fine depending on wheather you feel comfortable let other players see your stats right away or not.

Charcter looks good. I added a section in character creation above mention what party roles in the party dynamic have been filled to help people who can't decide what character to play.

Also don't worry about getting backround done too fast. I have the first few adventures planned but it would be great to draw upon your backstories for a bit after that for inspiration. I noticed you had some ranks in profession farmer perhaps have your charcter come from the region agrotima which is almost intirily farm land.

Just standard point buy system with an extra few poitns and the supplements I have are the complete series, draconomicon, libris mortis, minitures, spell compodium, races of dragon, manual of the plains, arms and equipment guide. I'm pretty sure that's a complete list but I may have missed something.

I already use some of the supplemental info on crystal keep. I don't like using the prcs from there as they aren't complete wheather or not you only want to take the first few levels. I wil sometimes draw from the equipement if I see somehting I like I also will sometimes use the variants on base classes as I have read the full thing about them in unearthed arcana a while ago and got a feel for the system. I also like all the alternative uses for skills persented in the skills and actions sections and wiol probably let you use them. For feats though I like to only pull from books I ahve access beacause if I don't understand a feat it can quite quickly over power a character and if I rerule it later it just brings up arguments with that player for 'nerfing' their charcter. Race wise I will probably run any subrace of something core but make sure to run it by me first. Since I've already established the setting other races may or may not have been worked in or don't fit period. If you would like to try another race run it by me first and I might approve it.
