Herbie Hancock is an awsome musician and is definately a very open minded artist.

me too...i love his songs...we play his songs all the time *especially Cantalope Island* we mix so much of our flavor *solos and style* in there its not even funny. xd *okay it is lol*i have a disc my teacher gave to me that has Cantalope and maiden voyage on it. but as for watermelon man, i love that song...a mini group out of our band is call the Quartet. its four guys in there *including my bf, he's alto sax* and they play Watermelon Man. it's great!!

Hmmm... I actually didn't like that book too much *don't hurt me!* I much rather prefer Bob Mintzer's 14 Jazz and Funk Etudes. Even though they aren't songs, I'd much rather read changes out of that book. Still love Herbie though!

i love both songs, but since i like the piano part to watermelon man more, i have to say watermelon man. when i was in Barcelona, Spain, i saw Herbie Hancock live, and he was incredible. i also liked the guy who played on the xylophones (or was it the vibes?). i recently started a funk band and i'm looking for a couple of Herbie Hancock songs, especially one of his slow ones. if you guys know any good ones besides Maiden Voyage i would love to hear your opinions!

Funk you say?
Chameleon, Watermelon man (the funk version), and some of Herbie's stuff on the CD "Thrust" is a good place to start.
That and Return to Forever in their album "No Mystery".
