how many and of what do you think could start a jazz combo i KNOW i have me and i can probably get three more, a pianist a drummer that can get by and either a gutarist or a clarinetist, so what would you do... and do you think i can do it...

Pretty easy with a drummer and bass player and piano player, or even a guitar player. Get a fake book or Real book or write your own tunes and then your goldy.

yeah exactly; start with a rythm section, get them solid on stuff like real fakes and being able to groove together, and then when you find wind players or whatever else add them in.

so i could have a sax or more likely bass(me or a BAITONE LOL it would be new and interesting, and i have thaught on it quite a bit) piano, drums, for sure unless i can get a bass player (dont know where)

That's pretty much it. You need a foundation (rhythm section) and then you can add the frontline or melodic instruments. Make sure you have a drummer who keeps time. That is essential!!!!!

That's pretty much it. You need a foundation (rhythm section) and then you can add the frontline or melodic instruments. Make sure you have a drummer who keeps time. That is essential!!!!! the drummer gives me lessons, hes not been playing drums for THAT long but he can keep time well, hes not too fancy yet, but the piano playr is top notch she is the assist band director and wife of the drummer lol, and we want to start a combo

It sounds like your "rhythm section" is already pretty stacked. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find someone who can actually comp well.
We've got one kid at my entire school who does it on piano.

I agree completely. There's nothing better you can do for your jazz playing than being in a combo.
