I've been a Christian since August last year. I've had alot of problems along the way but I like to think I've reached a peek right now, but Im really struggling to keep reading my Bible daily. When I do start reading it I cant stop....But I find it hard to just pick it up sit down and read it....It doesn't help alot that im not too sure where to read...As in which book, Im currently reading Mathew, im hoping to finish that this week.

Follow a plan to read the Bible in a year. You'll read a small portion daily, and will have read it all in a year. Since it's a collection of writings, though, you need a plan -- certainly it's not meant to be read directly cover to cover.

http://www.usccb.org/nab/bible/
http://www.backtothebible.org/devotions/bible_guides.htm -- their problem is they don't believe the deuterocanonical books are part of the Bible (ign'rant Protestants.)

Starting with long books is a misstake. The long readings turns people off. I usally recomend reading a small book first.

Also, I'm still trying to find where it says you have to read the bible daily. We all don't work that way. Like when we eat, we all don't eat the same amount. For some, reading a verse a day is as much of the word they can eat. For people like me, I can do a study in the bible and spend the next three months rerurgitating it the same way a cow cheweth the cud.

It is good to be in the word but one must also remember that the word is God, which means we can be in it different ways. Although reading the Bible is good, we can also be in the word by praying to our Father, which is talking with Him, and sing songs of praise to Him.

I do find fault in people who push people, special new borns in Chirst, to do the same as some who spent years serving Jesus. It is like expecting a baby to be able to drive an 18-wheeler before the child learns to walk.

If you do nothing but study the book of Jude for a year, that is better then forcing yourself to read a long book like Matthew and it becomes a burden instead of a rejoicement.

I recomand starting small and work your way up. Don't try more then you can handle or you will burn yorself out.

Whoah! Be careful with that! Revelations is really interesting and cool, but it is also a very difficult book to understand. It's full of a lot of symbolism and various interpretations about the "end times". I personally love the book. It is my favorite, but then again, I'm a sci-fi fanatic. I love end times types of materials. It is great to read parallel to a commentary to the book.

But, for the purposes of a new Christian, this book will do nothing but confuse the crap out of you. The suggestions that have already been made are absolutely great. One thing to point out is that each one of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) all portray Jesus in a somewhat different light. It is really cool to read through each of these and to disect how each book is different. An example is that John helps show that Jesus is God in the Flesh, where as Luke shows that Jesus is at the same time fully human. But, then again, I'm a college student, so I find that to be more interesting than other people. Each of the Gospels tell the same story, but they all tell different aspects of the same story, or the same story from a different point of view.

But like I said, the previous suggestions have all been great.

I would suggest you should read through the 4 gospels every month. But do not forget to read the old testament. start at Genesis and don't stop. The old testamnet shows who God is and what he does. How can we follow him if we don't know him? How can we know him if we don't read His Word?

i have the same problem. in fact i didnt even have a bible until i went on a retreat a month ago (ive been a true follower since like febuary sweatdrop ) but it still only has 5 of the books. my version is called Beginning The Journey: A Guide for the Spiritually Curious. i got this from my pastor. i wasnt really sure where to start either but i asked many people. one friend told me to read romans, another said Matthew, and another said James 1. ive read little parts of all of them (i read online bibles sometimes) but i havent been able to get through a lot. sad

You could just begin in Matthew, then continue on in Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, etc. mrgreen Just read through the entire Bible beginning in the New Testament basically. 3nodding
