Well, I checked in the Friends Chat section of the CB, and it seems that people are starting to adopt newbies. So, I thought I should do the same. I want to make "good" Gaians, not those Gold-hungry animals in the CB. gonk I think this shall be a good way for me to play Gaia, instead of Poll Whoring all day. T'is a good hobby too. =) What do you guys think of it? And last but not least, if yuo guys do adopt a newbie, teach them, but don't spoil them. sad

The adopt a newbie has been around ever since I joined and before. In the Welcome to gaia forum there is a thread dedicated to helping n00blets. I was even adopted when I joined Gaia. That's why I learned how to abuse the system in one month flat. xp

That's why I learned how to abuse the system in one month flat. xp Wow, Omni, you go, dude, rofl! =P Learning to abuse the system, eh? Maybe I should try some of that, haha. I was never actually adopted, but I had a bunch of friends when I first started. No one really helped me at all when I joined, period. I just learned from experience, however, a friend of mine that I knew in real life, whose real name is Tony, helped me a bit along the way. His username "was" Jade_Falcon1337, or something along the lines of that. Now it's Crimson Twlight, I think. But yeeeh, I had my bad and good experiences on Gaia. I learned that teaching newbies can be fun, I just would hate to teach a n00b.

I've never really thought of adopting a newbie. XD I helped Naito out when she first joined. I tried to explain what kind of posts went where because I think that posting etiquette is really the most important part of the website, or the conduct. I gave her a top I had lying around too. XD
Gosh when I was new it was so scary! I was just a lurker for the most part. I lurked around the harsher areas though so I didn't really know how good it could be. Like the GD and stuff. D: But back in the day, there were no guilds so yeah...had to go somewhere. ^^;
I think if I did that 'adopt a newb' thing, I wouldn't place so much of an emphasis on the gold/items. I mean if they needed a bit of help every once in a while for a quest I wouldn't mind, but not if like they always seem to be on a quest or something, and they are items that can be easily bought after a bit of posting around (90s pants, snowboard junk, etc). I hate when people add me to their friendslist, but the only time they contact me is to ask for donations. D: Must teach newbs not to do that for sure!

Yeah, I used to adopted new people on a Lord of the Rings message board I used to be on all the time. It was a big thing there, people had massive adoption threads and graduation programs, and all. It was crazy. I had no idea that there were those here, though. But then I never go into the Welcome forum. If I get bored enough, I might do that one day

I was adopted by some young 'un but we had no real common discussion interests. I learned everything by reading the stickies even though my first ever topic was moved to the chatterbox in under ten minutes.

I wouldn't know what to do. I know when I first came here I didn't know what to do. In fact when I posted to ask about the site...the only response I got was to make gold xp
Well that was when I took the high road and you can say temporarily quit gaia on my first day. Didn't come back until a month later. You can say I had a hard time fitting in and in fact I didn't make a friend until about 3 months later which is today the same person who helps me run my charity. It worked out for the best
Adopting a newbie is not a bad idea and at least they have a friend to guide them and not be like me running around without a head for months. Not sure if I can take on the responsibility of doing such a thing. I think I will stick with giving people things without any strings involved mrgreen

..The thing is, adopting a newbie won't necessarily costs you Gold, if they ask for Gold, tell them "No.", that's all there is to it. You have to be nice, but you have to discipline them too, I think of them more as pets/children/slaves more than I do as a friend. That's just my opinion though, hope no one gets offended by this post. >_>;
The thing is, as much of a nice guys as I am (Yeeeeh, riiiiiight *scoffs* neutral ), I help newbies, however, if they won't cooperate with me, I just quit. It's like, I can try to teach them all of my knowledge, however, if they are completely illiterate, it throws me off course. I'm like.. "Uh, how about you start using gerammar and capitalization correctly, eeeh."
I just go NUTS when someone don't capitalize or type correctly, UGH! scream mad
Is that how you guys are when you adopt newbies?

Awe. The adopting newbies thing sounds really nice. I'd get involved with that, but seeing as I can't get on Gaia half as much as I used to be able to I'd be a terrible 'big sis' or whatever. :XP:
Otherwise, I think I can just donate randomly, but I'm too much of a gold whore. sweatdrop xp (x2)
Whe I first joined Gaia I wasn't adopted, seeing as I was (and still am) rather scared of the forums. I'd just window shop myself enough money. I actually finally started to get a decent amount of gold coming in once I opened elseWHERE. Along the way I more or less taught myself Gaia etiquette and such. I guess I turned out alright. xp (x3)

i tired adopting a newbie once. at first it was cool, then he started bugging me for all my gold and resorted to following me where ever i posted and reporting my posts reguardless of what i posted. xp adoption is good, so long as you get a newbie and not a n00b. xd 3nodding
