Drinking Contest As the lanterns draw closer to the mouth of the river, the second crystal takes on a brighter glow. When the balance between the brackish river and the saltwater of the bay tips, the stone begins to gleam. At first the motion is subtle, barely noticeable, but as the moments pass the lanterns begin to rise from the surface of the water until they ultimately take flight, their array of colors shining gently among the stars. At the river’s edge, Sailor Tempesti awaits the racers on another small dock and greets each arrival with a cheerful wave, helping secure the boats and helping anyone who needs it out of their vessel. As she works, Sailor Bacchus offers amused commentary at her less than impressive knots, correcting them with an unexpected dexterity. Once the last racer disembarks, Tempesti leads the group toward a table she’s relocated from the marketplace and surrounded with an assortment of mismatched chairs. Standing in the center is a keg of beer and a cooler full of sodas. “The ancient Tempestines traditionally ended the Lantern Festival with a drinking contest, to celebrate the return of the spirits to the Galaxy Cauldron and the lives of the people who were still with them. We’ve set up something similar, with beer but also with some soda for anyone who doesn’t drink alcohol. But first, a little prize for the winner of the boat race.” Tempesti approaches Feronia and summons an object into her cupped hands. Upon examination, the little metal object appears to be a toy in the shape of an animal resembling a fat leopard gecko with feathery wings. “It’s nothing huge, but I thought it was kind of neat. And cute.” As she passes it to Feronia, she continues, #559bae]“There’s a little tab on the back and if you flip it back and forth the terari, oh that’s what the animal is called, the terari opens and closes its mouth and flaps its little wings.” Turning her attention from Feronia, Tempesti addresses the group. “So I’ll be passing drinks around as you go. If you’re drinking beer, the goal is to hold your alcohol as best you can. If you’re drinking soda, you’re going to try to hold back the brain freeze…whoever manages to do it best gets a small magical item I found. Everyone else gets hot chocolate or tea to warm up after those cold drinks. So, get ready, get set, GO!” Quote: To participate, roll 5d6 for each character. Each d6 represents a round of drinks and the total represents your character’s level of drunkenness or brain freeze. The character with the lowest total is the winner. In the event of a tie, I will use an RNG to determine the winner. The mini prompts below determine how drunk or brain frozen your character is. Characters may use an Article of Resilience or similar item to subtract one point from their total. I will put up the final post for the Lantern Festival on 02/05/2026 around 8 PM Pacific Time

Mini Prompts 5-7: You barely feel a buzz or anything like brain freeze and could probably even go a few more rounds if you wanted to. 8-12: You’re starting to feel the effects of your drink, a bit of tipsiness or cold discomfort is starting to creep in. 13-17: You are drunk or your brain freeze is becoming intense. 18 and above: You are absolutely smashed or afflicted with terrible brain freeze.

Nothing having gone especially well today - although nothing quite as badly as the boat ride - Alekto was ready for a drink. She even considered, with a certain cheerful optimism, that to spectacularly crash and burn on a drinking contest would have the upside of leaving her too drunk to care much about making an a** of herself all day. Accordingly, finding her head spinning by round three, she pounded the last two with gusto and let out a white-girl-wasted whoop on the heels of it, which sounded as much like a victory cry as if she'd tanked it like an old pro. "You're right," she told Creedence. "We should party in space more often."

"Oh," said Elaine cheerfully, leaning over to say it to Ekstrom over the sound of general festivity, "I'm gonna get wrecked." She then, accordingly, did, and when the area had stopped immediately spinning she made her way to the snacks, stopping to pat Odainsaker indulgently on the shoulder. "Nice toast," she told her sincerely. "I'll write about it in my next one to Neona, if I remember it by then."

Maus had twenty or so years under his belt of tanking various chemical influence without too much outward change to show for it, and therefore it did not seem like he was more than a little bit tipsy, until he grabbed Grieve's arm in a companionable sort of way. "I'm gonna teach you how to do this Earth dance," he announced, "that is not at all cringe and will definitely not get people to make fun of you." Granted, teaching people how to dance and being unembarrassed about it was something sober Maus would do too, but probably not with Grieve, of all people. lizbot Grieve's girlfriend has competition

Odainsaker Once they had all disembarked the little ships they'd driven and Tempesti awarded a little prize to the best boat driver, there was an announcement of a drinking contest. Odain's grin split into a full blown smile at the news. This was one of Odain's favorite events of the night as she really enjoyed them when she was at the renaissance festivals. She excitedly took the drinks and opted for the beer. She always did well at the ren fest with this sort of thing. Humming as she took her first drink and finished it down. Her fingers drummed on the table softly wondering if she needed to pace herself or if she should just chug the drinks like she occasionally would at the renaissance festivals. There was a bit of a frown as she wondered if there was going to be any music. She wished she'd checked because this would be a perfect setting for some tavern music. On her second drink did wish that she had the forethought to bring her drinking horn with her. She loved to make sure she had it and usually used at the festivals if she planned on drinking as it made the experience a bit more - well realistic to her. She took the second drink from Tempesti as she handed them out. "Thank you~" She said in a sing song voice. She downed the second Beer with similar quickness to the first. By the third drink Odainsaker was wondering what was in the beer. As she could feel a buzz coming on and well, slightly concerned that this was probably not her typical drink of choice. She didn't think this was a fairly normal reaction to her downing beers in a contest. There was despite that a soft giggle and a shrug before she continued. It was a contest after all, she could at least finish it. Though she figured she'd have to sleep off the effects after all was said and done. The forth drink had her cheeks rosy and Odain was softly moving her head to a song that only she could hear. The squire of cosmos had no shame as she continued drinking. Suddenly she had the urge to offer a cheer to which she held up the cup in her hand and offered those around her a cheer, "I'd like to propose a Toast~!" She called, "May the winds of fortune find you. May you sail a gentle sea. May it always be the other guy who says, “This drink’s on me."With the fourth downed and the fifth was in front her the squire was humming and giggly. This was quite the experience she thought she drank her last tankard of beer. Though would she remember this part? Probably not if she was honest. Had there been music she'd probably swept some poor unsuspecting soul up into a jig as she continued to drum her fingers to the song in her head and looked pretty pleased with her personal results. Even if she didn't win the drinking contest. Rejam Giving a toast to everyone present

Snowball
The Mauvian hummed as he picked a seat, after the river adventure a drinking contest sounded fun. He looked curiously at the options before gingerly picking the beer. He didn't often drink but it was a special occasion. As long as he didn't get plum out drunk he was sure Niflhel wouldn't kick him out into the snow until he sobered up.
However, he didn't mind the snow either he thought as he took his drinks and observed the people around him as they drank their drinks to see what was appropriate for a drinking contest. He noticed at least one of them - a cosmos squire - was downing drinks like there was a time limit and his ear flicked. He wasn't sure about that since Tempesti just said it was a contest. Though the mauvian considered, a contest would usually mean timed in some fashion right?
He rolled his shoulders and drank the cups one after another, though he paced himself a bit. He didn't want to out right just inhale them in one gulp, he was pretty sure that wouldn't work.
He was on his third drink when the drunken cosmos squire mentioned a toast. "What an odd duckling that one is." He said softly, more so to himself but loud enough for anyone near him to hear. Of course as he finished up his fifth drink, he felt fairly warm and a bit of a buzz giving a hum as he continued to people watch.

Niflhel "Thank you." Niflhel said when Tempesti assisted him out of the boat. Usually he wouldn't take the help but the knight was clearly worn out, and the boat ride after the rocks was fairly peaceful while coming to reach the landing. He moved to join the rest and settled into a seat far away from the others, kicking his boots up on the bench he'd settled upon so that no one could join right beside him. He choose the sodas giving a soft glare at the beer. He watched Snowball from afar. He was happy to watch the going ons with the others gathered from far away. Drinking his sodas -- he swore they were so cold it was almost like drinking an Icee. He kept getting brain freeze from drinking them too fast and was fighting the urge to give any indication that he was suffering. He wanted to keep a stoic face however, his eyes narrowed at a cosmos squire who'd clearly had one too many. She was quite loud and didn't do his brain freeze headache any favors. "I hope no one over does it...." He muttered softly. Giving a yawn when he finished off his drinks and winched when he got brain freeze again trying to put his tongue to the roof of his mouth to help subside the offensiveness of said brain freeze. honkzilla Taking Tempesti's offered help out of the boat with a thank you.
