Following directly after trouble comes in twos

Leitner had been more focused on the fact that his hand hurt badly than he was on the threats coming from the zapichu. At least until they were right in his face and he got a real good look at how not human they were.

But before he got more than a yelp out, everything moved, and he saw the whole world from a different perspective, at least mostly the ground this time instead of monsters. But from the sound of things and how fast the ground seemed to be moving, the stone gargoyles weren't going to be a problem anymore.

This was the first time he'd been manhandled, at least with how he was now, and he was not a fan in the slightest. So once the ground started to look like it was turning into grass, or at least not hard pavement, he started to wiggle to try and get down.

"Okay, OKAY enough. Let me down..." He mumbled as he rubbed at his sore hand. Already there were bruises; the plus side at least was that he didn't feel like there were bugs on him right now. But that wasn't something he was looking to devote any attention to, just in case it might change.

Even his forearms ached under the metal bracer things that were part of this awful outfit. Why were there monsters like that? That thought led to what was carrying him.

"What even are you?" Though most of the fight left his voice at this point, with how he ached. Because the gargoyles and all that BS from the gameboard hadn't been able to speak.

By the time the Senshi started complaining enough to draw him to a halt, Magnesia was well out of breath and thoroughly exerted, taking gasping inhales and dragging his feet as he came to a stop. He bent, letting the other guy slide from his shoulder before Magnesia crumpled fully to the ground with a soft groan. Magical boost or not, he was still just a man with a pretty limited range of abilities. A couple more years and he’d be a force

But not yet.

Now he was just an uncommonly tall guy with some weird features and a little bit of sparky power. And he was pretty in need of a good nap, and he’d have to find someone to get him home- since it wasn’t like he could get there, himself. So actually, this was a pretty shitty spot to be him and for all the effort he’d exerted to get them out of there, the Senshi didn’t even give him the courtesy of gratitude!

From his spot in the grass, he flipped to his back, laying flat on the ground with his arms splayed while he waited for the burn in his chest from the run (with a weight!) to subside. Magnesia didn’t pout, but his brows drew in and his lips pulled down, and he glowered at the Mirror Senshi that he was pretty sure was not his friend. “Hff… you’re a pretty rude, unkind guy, huh?” Magnesia grumbled. Another deep inhale, exhale. “That was a lot of effort, and yet you’re being pretty demanding, still.”

But whatever. They were here, now. Alone and safe(ish).

“Can’t you tell just by feelin’? I’m an operative with the Negaverse. And we’re supposed to be, like,” Huff, huff. “Friend-adjacent? Something like that. I thought you’d be a little happier to not have to fend off those stone gargoyles while I watched. Hmph. That’ll teach me.”

Sliding down, he stepped and realized that was a bad idea from where he'd kicked the gargoyle, and instead just fell back onto his a** on the ground. Taking a moment to yank the annoying hood off his outfit so that it would stop touching his face and bother thing, he then looked over to the now flipped over guy on the grass.

At least they didn't seem to be sparky anymore; that was a plus. With them complaining, though, he went through the list of things he might have on him and then pulled out the bag of leftover chocolate he was still carrying around before tossing it over. "Here, thanks, don't get drunk." Making sure to land it on their chest as best as he could so they could see the fancy little bat chocolates with all different color spiderwebbing on them. There were more at home anyway, and he needed to offload some more now that the party for his employer had gone on already, and went through the main batch he'd made for them.

"The what? Is that where that cat-woman-thing came from?" Frustrated in general, he sighed. "Well, gee, sorry I did whatever to you, okay? It's not like I have any clue what's going on; it was this or jail. Honestly, jail might have been better looking back on it now."

"Drunk?" Magnesia parroted in confusion, propping an arm behind his head and sitting up enough to see what had been dropped on him. To the Senshi's credit, it was a cute holiday-themed candy of some sort. Smelled pretty good and chocolaty, and Mag was hardly one to turn down a snack of almost any kind, even if this didn't replace the ice cream he'd had to do away with while protecting this guy. "Hm..."

While he wasn't going to eat a whole bag of candy right here on the grass, he may as well sample one for his efforts, and in the event that it was some kind of poison or trap or whatever, Mag could start a list of 'assholes that don't deserve their starseed.'

Pulling one out of the bag, he mashed as much of one in his mouth as he could (which you'd think would be a lot, but you'd think wrong, since his fangs took up an uncommonly huge amount of mouth space, and despite the passage of time, Magnesia still wasn't used to mouthful of fang and food simultaneously- though that hardly stopped him) and decided that even if it wasn't ice cream, sweets were sweets, and they were all pretty good!

"Hey, it's not bad," he said much more amicably than he'd said literally anything else since they'd crossed paths.

"Look, I dunno about a cat-woman-thing, but if it felt kinda like me, it was probably with the Negaverse too." Except after the words had left his mouth, Magnesia registered what the Senshi had said, and his head whipped around to stare at him. "What? Do you not know the Negaverse? Where's your Senshi handbook or whatever? Don't they tell you anything?"

He barked out a rough laugh at this guy's complaints about being a Mirror Senshi of all things. "Jail? Better? How? The people like you don't even have to do anything. No one tells you to power up, no energy quota, nothing happens if you ignore it. Man, buddy. It sounds like you're complaining just to complain."

"Well, that's news to me. Miss Cat thing, Desiree or something, apparently just shows up and drags the dude who's supposed to tell me how to do things out when he doesn't want to do anything. He doesn't seem to know much at all about it either." And he'd been avoiding Hedwig since the whole board game thing, too.

"The only mirror thing I know is that some blonde guy shoved me through one and then said, 'Here's this guy who obviously doesn't know what's up either, ' and stick with him." But at this point, it didn't seem like there was anything that really matched up anyway.

Handbook? Nothing like that from what he knew, except that the cat would show up if Hedwig lazed about. And that sounded a hell of a lot different than what they were saying.

"I mean, there wouldn't be whatever those were in a cell." As for what they felt like, he hadn't really paid enough attention to it.

"And of course they aren't bad, I wouldn't eat or carry around something that wasn't up to my standards of work. Just couldn't leave all the ones with liquor in them for a kids' party after the rest went to adults. "

"Dunno any of those people," Magnesia said with a shrug of his shoulders against the grass. "I'm kind of a weird case, so I only really know others like me. Agents, y'know?" He traced a sugar spider web on the treat with his finger, then popped it into his mouth. "Guess I shouldn't be surprised you and... everyone you've met apparently, are kinda clueless. Senshi that aren't with the Negaverse are notoriously mismanaged."

Which had its blessings and curses, sure, but Magnesia hadn't realized the Mirror would just chuck some hapless guy out into the world without any kind of preparation. Meant the people he'd been counting on were kind of assholes too for not making sure he was safe and adjusted, but that wasn't Mag's business.

"Mmm, I'm not convinced those kind of creatures wouldn't be in a cell," Magnesia said thoughtfully. "Or if not them exactly, then something as equally dangerous. Have you lived in DC long? I'm sure you've heard about disappearances and such? You think that only happens to people who get reported on? Nah, fam. People in a cell with nowhere to go are easy targets, easy prey. I wouldn't expect jail walls to keep out anything supernatural that wanted in."

And Magnesia couldn't imagine being in jail long if you were someone who'd offended the Negaverse- not that this guy had (probably). "Just not as many people miss a criminal who's disappeared. I'd say this is the luckier draw. You're a Senshi. You're special. Definitely not something just anyone can have."

"Whether you believe it or not is up to you, but you're safer that way... er, whoever-you-are."

Another treat to his lips, and now that he'd gotten the initial taste of them, Magnesia was spending more time experimenting with the most indulgent way to eat them- in little bites? By licking all the sugar off first? Letting it sit and melt on his tongue? Hm... as an underage adult who spent the extreme majority of his time in Negaspace (which was, ultimately, a place of business) liquor was hard to come by... And though he didn't prefer the flavor of alcohol, he wasn't immune to its benefits. "I'm Magnesia, by the way."

Shrugging back, he hadn't expected them to know anyone, considering he probably would have heard about whatever not-human but human-ish shaped thing this whatever was. But more and more it felt like he'd gotten yanked into this and left at it just because he'd done something disagreeable at an establishment owned by the Sharp family.

Sighing slightly, he pulled that tin of pills out and sorted through them until he found what he was looking for. Popping it into his mouth, he dry swallowed and then leaned back and laid on the grass to stare up at the night sky.

"Been here forever, people disappear, that's normal, cells are usually involved, but monsters? Never." Avoiding that topic, knowing full well he might have been part of a few people disappearing after a good night out that only he would remember after a few drinks to whoever he had been with.

The whole supernatural thing bothered him more than the rest if he was being honest. "Leitner, and if it was anything other than infestation, I might say lucky, but I like bugs when they're dead and pinned, not when I can feel them crawling on me every time I'm out like this. That damn cat looked at me like it was some sort of funny joke when she said whatever thing it was I had." Scratching absentmindedly at his upper arm now that it was more accessible without that stupid fabric over it.

Looking over slightly, to see them working through the snacks, he could at least not be annoyed by the fact that they were actually trying them instead of inhaling them like an animal. Half the time, the smaller treats he made for whichever employer had him on call ended up going to whatever kid of theirs wanted pretty things for a birthday party. It felt like a waste sometimes, but work was work, and it kept him from having to see or deal with his own problems.

"So. Magnesia, right? You seem to know more about all this stuff. If you like any sort of dessert, I can make it if you tell me how not to get killed by all this bullshit?" Pulling another thing from subspace, he held it up for them to see. It was a big cellophane-wrapped orange and black twirl pop with more of that delicate spider webbing on it and a little sugar spider set on it as well, beneath the wrapping.

"Make all sorts of things just to do it between weeks on site so there's always something new to try." It was as close as he was going to get to more of an apology since he still didn't like any of this really.

Magnesia scoffed quietly at the statement that disappearances were ‘normal,’ and like- to some extent? Sure, he supposed. But he hoped nowhere else on Earth had disappearances as frequently as Destiny City had disappearances. Hoped it wasn’t so easy to become one of those disappearances as it was here… He rubbed at his chest, over where Wolframite had put his hand in Warren’s chest to turn him into what he was. Warren could’ve been one of those disappearances- Almost was.

This was just the alternative, and he had, admittedly, not had much say in the matter.

“Infestation? I mean, yeah, it’s on the grosser side. Probably not the worst, and if you don’t like it, just don’t power up? Easy as that. What were you doing wandering around not paying attention like this, anyway?”

Because anyone with an aura of any kind should be paying attention. Senshi specifically had to be wary of youma no matter what color they wore. And although Dark Mirror Senshi were… generally the most neutral, that also meant they could have enemies in both sides: White Moon who’d attack them because they held Chaos in their starseeds, or Negaversers because they were competition (or because of that thing that had happened however-many-years-ago that Mag had not experienced personally, and only understood snipers from things Wolframite said).

Having eaten a significant portion kf the treats he was given, Magnesia twisted the bag off to stop himself from going through the whole lot. “You don’t need to give me anything, y’know? And I’m just a basic b***h rookie, kinda like you, right? Just with a little bit longer to show for it. So I dunno if I can actually help you with anything you need help with. What I can tell you is you gotta be careful, man.”

“You can’t just be broadcasting your presence and not be paying attention. You should’ve seen those things, should’ve felt me before we were up in your business. A lot of things will come looking for you if they feel your aura. If you’re just wandering around, don’t power up like that.”

But he did wonder (he had to wonder) if it would benefit him to have someone distinctly not-Negaverse to talk to. Maybe Leitner wasn’t the answer to that, since he didn’t seem all that enthusiastic to be here, but? Magnesia wasn’t swimming in options or anything.

He rolled to his side, propping his face up in one hand and reaching for the second bag of treats with the other. “You can ask anything you want, y’know. If I can answer, I will.”

"As if that cat doesn't know where my actual home is. I get the feeling she'd show up and drag me out." Grumbling slightly, he handed over the next treat as they continued on about all this, paying attention and sensing stuff.

If he really focused through the slow haze from what he'd taken, something acrid feeling came from the other. It wasn't sharp or dangerous exactly, but he hadn't really felt something like it before.

"Well, at least you know more about all this than I do. Plus, you're kind of tall, so that's intimidating, I'd guess." Something of a sore spot, but not one he could do much about without a lot of downtime, and he couldn't deal with it right now.

"I was out trying to figure things out, but obviously it's hard to focus when everything is crazy and there's bugs crawling under your skin." Not that he'd seen any signs of it, but he could just feel it. Maybe it was the stress from all this, or the sourness at getting caught doing what he usually did, but this time by some people who could actually back up things.

"Well, first question is, how would I find you again if something crazy is going on. Plus, you say you don't need anything, but I haven't seen someone actually enjoy the stuff I make earnestly in a while; it's like you've never had the good s**t. And I do, in fact, make good s**t when it comes to sweets." Perking up a bit with that fact, he knew at least that hadn't changed, even if a lot of things were moving whether or not he wanted them to.

Magnesia knew better than to suggest that Leitner should kick a cat (Mauvian or otherwise), but if it were him, he wouldn’t give two shits about a Guardian’s opinion. Of course, he wasn’t a Senshi, and most Mauvians didn’t really have any reason to interact with him at all… Maybe it was just different for someone who had to rely on them more. So he didn’t say anything about what Leitner should or should not do, but his expression gave away that he considered dealing with a cat to be a complete non-issue.

Instead, “I am pretty intimidating, huh?” Said perhaps a little too smugly for the ‘basic b***h rookie’ Magnesia claimed to be. But there weren’t that many half-youma, he was one of few! He was basically a dragon, and he’d be more intimidating with time.

He hoped.

“People like us-“ ‘Rookies.’ “-shouldn’t really be wandering alone, y’know? It sounds like you had someone… assigned to you, or something? You said there was a guy who also seemed clueless, so that part’s not great. But having another body nearby is good. Don’t go out alone, if you can help it. Or, or unless you have a way to get out of trouble? So, like, Negaversers can teleport- or, well- some can. Not me, though. But you’re a Mirror Senshi. You can walk through mirrors to get away from things. So if you’re going to wander around by yourself, at least do it somewhere close to a mirror you can get through. Yeah, yeah?”

As a not-Mirror Senshi, he didn’t know anything more about it than that, couldn’t give any advice on how to hide mirrors or whatever. He scrunched some of the plastic that the second great was wrapped in. He absolutely could not tear through more sugar now, but it still pleased him to have it in hand.

“Mmm… contacting me, huh… I dunno how easy that would be. My tablet won’t get messages from your senshi phone- or whatever you use, I dunno. But you said you know a cat? If you did, it’d be a Negaverse cat, right? One with a dark star on their head? That’s something you could probably ask them to do. Make a way for you to send messages to me, so I’d know if you wanted to meet up.” He shouldn’t offer to do all that- have an open line of communication, probably. They were “allies” in that they were both Chaos, but it wasn’t like it was deeper than that. There were plenty in the Negaverse that didn’t like Mirror Senshi, and if Leitner came across someone like that and tried to call Mag for help? Well, he wouldn’t be able to do anything about that.

“It’s… kind of something else you gotta be careful about,” he warned. You’ll be better off having close and knowledgeable friends in the Mirror Court. I can help you out sometimes, but it’s not like you should count on me for- uuuh, almost anything, really.”

But he did like the idea of having someone to talk to. And it didn’t rankle him that someone in this mess might want his help, of all people.

Since there was a not-insignificant section of people who would see him and think, ‘oh, youma, irredeemable monster, definitely won’t be relying on that.

He found himself grinning as he looked back at the Senshi. “Wellll, I guess I never had the good s**t?” Magnesia admitted with a shrug. It wasn’t like his family was well off or anything. Custom candies were well out kf the budget. And since he’d been powered- “It’s hard to get anywhere like this, right? Not as difficult at this time of year. Was just at the ice cream shop before I met you. But, I dunno, never been one for extravagance, I guess. You’re real artsy with your candies. Almost a shame to eat them, even.”
