The Gargoyles (1) : Even when you thought you’d seen the last of them, it seems like you’re never really in the clear. A while back, there was an infestation of awful gargoyle creatures–and while every Star Festival had its fair share of oddities, this one seems to have introduced a permanent infestation upon the city. Maybe you see them perched on the roof, or hiding in the shadows, but not all of these grotesque creatures are satisfied with just escaping their interdimensional prison–some of them still have a bone to pick. They seem stony; some of them will watch with a penetrative gaze and never strike to attack, but some of them will dive down to target anyone who gets too close. The monsters come in an array of sizes and shapes, but they are no more than half the size of their target. Their goal is uncertain, but they will crumble into a pile of rocks and dust if struck hard enough.

This RP can be used as a battle requirement as long as there are at least two powered characters involved; you must be interacting with another player’s powered character and cannot solo this with two of your own characters. This does not count as the ‘one youma battle’ per stage for growth. This can only be used as a battle requirement once per character, but there is no limitation for how many times a player can use this prompt.

He hadn't gone back to either Desiree or Hedwig; he didn't want either of them to ask him anything. So instead, he was going to figure things out on his own, even if he still didn't like any of this.

That creeping feeling of insects crawling over the few places he had of open skin was the main thing he focused on, even as he let his wraith do whatever it was supposed to do. Sweeping the area, he made for damn sure that he didn't end up touching another dice. That was another thing he didn't want to revisit that had happened since everything had turned upside down.

But with his focus downward and on himself more than his surroundings, he was oblivious of the slowly shifting stones above. None of them had moved drastically; they only watched for now. The fact that others who were crazy and magical might be out in this hadn't even registered as he walked forward and scratched at the invisible bugs he felt all over.

It wasn't Magnesia's first Halloween as a half-youma, but everything had still been... new last year, and the adjustment period had really overtaken most of his ability to enjoy a holiday that he felt really should be for him, an actual monster. This year would be different! There were still complications (there always would be), but he couldn't let that stop him. This was like- the only month out of the year he didn't have to give a s**t about his glamour.

(And okay, maybe that was a little facetious: he should probably still give a s**t, but he didn't want to, and he wasn't going to, and literally nothing bad had happened, yet, so y'know, whatever.)

The first chill of winter crept in, but his powered body barely registered it. Instead, he found himself actively seeking a sweet, frosty treat. His selection of the eve led him to a little stall, patronized by only a sparse smattering of humans. Magnesia didn't bother powering down or glamouring up when he made his order, and literally no one batted an eye. Perfect. Beautiful. If there was something he should be wary of in the area, he didn't feel it.

Instead, he paid his fee, collected his snack, and made his way to settle at the top of a rickety fire escape positioned at the back end of a nearby building. There wasn't much to see from his vantage point: a couple dreary shops with few passerby. A road with little traffic. A church with some guy scurrying about his way. And- hmm, something else. Some infinitesimal movement in the shadows.

"Prrrt?" A soft, inquisitive noise as he licked his chocolate ice cream and eyed the darkness.

And you know what, that looked familiar. Magnesia didn't consider himself a vengeful guy, but just because he didn't think so, didn't mean he wasn't. And he'd faced this brand of trouble before. Holding his treat in one hand, he scaled along the top edge of the building until he could get close enough to bridge the gap between where he was and what he was seeing. As he drew closer, it became apparent that the 'scurrying guy' wasn't just some rando, but a Senshi.

And one he should tolerate, Magnesia supposed.

He didn't make a sound when he pounced from the tip-top corner edge of his building, crashing down on a stone figure that was ready to swoop at an unsuspecting victim- But they definitely all made a sound when they hit the ground. The stone smashed into the dirt alleyway, the gargoyle making a shrill little sound as Magnesia's body crushed it to Earth. He landed with both feet and one hand on the creature's body, claws scraping at stone. While his other hand very carefully help his ice cream away from the rush of dust and rubble that erupted underneath him. Couldn't waste his snack on behalf of some loser DMS, after all.

"Hey you. You blind or what?" Magnesia snapped as he glowered at the other. "What're you doing not paying attention? This thing was gonna jump you!"

Itchy.

Itchy
.

So very itchy.

It was all he could think about, even as he felt a warm wetness beneath his nails where he was still scratching. Something had shifted, though, his wraith coming back at first, but then something was plummeting down towards the ground.

The loud noise startled him, sending him whipping around and words sliding from his lips before he even thought things through. "What's Inside?" His hands came up, and he finally noticed the blood under his nails. It felt like he was looking at someone else's hands, that his perspective had shifted again.

Golden eyes caught onto the thing that was saying something to him, but it was too late, and that haze that haunted him was flowing outward. Everything felt scattered as he looked between the creature and the rubble underneath them. Taking a step back, he shook his head as the first question they'd asked finally registered.

Not again, not more creatures, more magic, more crazy s**t that was more than he should have to deal with. All of this was too much already, and he still felt his edges fraying from that gameboard pocket hell days back.

What's inside?

Leitner exhales over his palms as he speaks his magic, a sickening haze seeming to spread from him and can affect all enemies within radius. It clings to him closest, but if he comes in contact with someone or scratches them, then the effects truly begin. A slight infestation overtakes them: the sensation of a mild itching beneath the skin, almost like crawling insects, followed by a feeling that something rotten has taken hold, something that can't be cured or removed. Players may choose to have their senshi have any psychological effects if they have issues related to bugs or things of that nature, but the only damage that would happen would be from his touch or nails and not from the magic itself. Or if the character decided to try scratching at themself. When the magic fades, players may choose to retain a lingering grey or black taint/color on their skin, similar to mold or sores from an infection, at the contact point, but that will fade after a short period of time.

Now that Magesia was closer, now that he was crouched in the ground hardly more than a few feet away from the Senshi, Magnesia was starting to suspect something about this guy was off. He’d come over to try and help someone that was supposed to be an “ally,” but all the vibes were starting to seem like he should’ve minded his own business. If the gargoyles had taken out a weirdo who wasn’t paying attention, why should that be Magnesia’s fault.

“Hey, are you good?” He snapped, already sounding meaner than he had initially, if that were possible. The Dark Mirror used some kind of attack- and Magnesia was somehow not under the impression that he would be disincluded from its effects.

He scrambled backward from the pile of rubble he’d created on the ground, aware that more of those creatures were becoming very active overhead. It would be a pain if he was trying to fend off stone monstrosities and and ungrateful brat of a DMS, but Magnesia had a magic of his own and he was gonna blast anything that looked at him sideways. He didn’t care if it was human or not, and it frankly didn’t matter what state the human was in, either. His well-being was more important than some stranger’s.

“I came over here to help you, but if you don’t get it together, you’re getting zapped, and I won’t be sorry,” he warned, feeling the first tingling of his own magic rising in response to the obvious threats around him.

None of this made sense, and even with all the usual fairytales he had to think up on the fly for his work, he doubted this was purely his imagination. That proved especially when the human-adjacent-looking thing snapped at him.

"No! Why the <********> would I be good?" Snapping in return as he jumped slightly, feeling the vibrations through the ground as more of whatever they were had touched down on the pavement.

This was getting nowhere, and with the thing threatening him, he turned back to look at what the noises were. Stone statues, ones he recognized from the tops of buildings that were older than dirt, which he usually used as a design base for sugar work, were now moving closer.

What the <********> was he supposed to do about this? This wasn't in any of the bs that Melpomene, Desiree, or Hedwig had brought up.

And now whatever it was said it was going to zap him, so obviously he was ******** no matter what he did. "It's stone, don't you like know type advantages?" The only thing going to be getting zapped was most likely him at this rate, but whatever.

In frustration, he just kicked at one of the things as hard as he could. Felt it all the way up to his hip, but at least the one cracked. Hissing as he hopped back a bit because, at this point, this crazy s**t was just out of his hands really.

Oh, good. At least they were on speaking terms. Though Magnesia’s opinion may have already been colored in such a way that it didn’t really matter what the Senshi said to him anymore. “Why would you be good?” He barked back. “Because they didn’t hurt you? Because these stupid monsters are literally nothing compared to what could’ve found you? Literally nothing! Ugh, you bratty Senshi- so ******** dramatic over nothing!”

When Magnesia had faced these stony creatures last year, he’d just come out of a fight with a White Moon Senshi, and he was tired and weak and already feeling defeated. He’d survived then. And he definitely wasn’t worried about surviving now-

Unless this Mirror kid was trying to become his enemy.

Type advantage- Like Pokemon and s**t? Calling Mag some kind of animal- Like, okay, fair, whatever, but- “Said I was gonna zap you. You are not made of stone! But if you don’t come at me, and you help me out here, I won’t have need to do that, right?” And then, much more muted and in a grumble, “since I was just trying to help you, anyway…” Whatever. They could stand here bickering, or they could get out of this situation that the Mirror Senshi had been too blind or distracted to realize was upon him. Magnesia hadn’t even been given proper opportunity to enjoy his ice cream…

The things were swarming now, diving and doing their best to bludgeon into Mag and this Senshi’s significantly less sturdy bodies- But if Magnesia hit them first, they couldn’t hurt him. He wasn’t so worried about those ‘type advantages.’

His magic sparked off of him, tingling down his arms out to his fingers, arcing along his horns, and Magnesia felt better for it. He pounced, snatching a forgotten out of the air and launching it into a wall, dragging rubble down the brick building and then hurling the remaining stones at the next nearest creatures.

Quote:
A static charge emanates from around Magnesia in a 5’ radius. Nearby allies receive a little extra juice! Negaverse agents (including himself), youma, and corrupted Mauvians receive a 25% boost to their strength and speed, while senshi have one use of magic restored up to Magnesia’s rank (Basic). The electrical discharge is uncomfortable. Enemies and allies may choose to take light shock damage. Magic is new to him and his electricity can get out of hand. :< The boost lasts for 25 seconds and has 3 uses. General Sovereigns are unaffected by the buff.

Whipping his head back to glare at them, they had the audacity to call him dramatic. This s**t wasn't normal, like sure he maybe believed in some fairy tales and folklore, but s**t hadn't tried to kill him, at least stuff that he wasn't taking himself. "Overdramatic?! I didn't want a part of any of this crap. You think I'd choose to deal with monsters?"

At this point, he wasn't sure if the zapichu or the stone gargoyles were the bigger problem. Especially during his next attempt at kicking one of the things when he felt a zap go through him, and he definitely didn't like how that felt. For a second, he thought back to when he saw those bright hospital lights from the last time he'd had to be zapped back to this world. Not something he wanted to repeat, especially by some weird whatever they were.

They'd said "was gonna zap you", but he guessed that meant definitely as he sucked a breath in and stomped on the one in front of him until it finally cracked into pieces and came apart.

Another one came at him and he got his arms up in time to hear the clang of stone on metal before tumbling to the ground. "What the <********>?!" It was heavy, just as stone should be, and he had what would be the worst and best idea he had as he grit his teeth and tried to punch the thing. Something popped, oh he felt that, and he tried to scoot out from under the gargoyle as it half flopped over with the cracked side of its face looking back at him.

They weren’t. Getting. Anywhere.

And a quick glance back told Magnesia all he needed to know about this Senshi’s combat capabilities… Which seemed suspiciously close to zero, and he kept hurting himself on the stupid stone gargoyles- which maybe sucked especially much, ‘cause Mag didn’t know a ton about treating peoples’ injuries. And he knew even less about dealing with existential crises, and he was pretty sure that was the direction this was headed.

He yelped, being smashed into the wall as he let himself be distracted thinking about crazy, panicking Mirror boy, and if he let it happen twice, this would go downhill real fast.

With a snarl, he shoved himself off the wall, snapping his jaws at the creature’s arm where it tried to swipe at him. Mag was in the dumber side, but not quite dumb enough to think he could solve all his problems by biting them. Distance. He needed distance. Ugh. And he supposed he’d be kind of a shitty dude if he just left the Senshi to fend for himself (even though he probably should, since Magnesia wasn’t looking to get dragged down by anyone).

Whatever. He dove for the Mirror guy. “If you attack me once, ONCE,” Magnesia warned, “I’m leaving you to them, and not looking back. You got that?”

They didn’t have time to loiter around and wait for an answer. Mag was hardly a buff man, but this dude was scrawny and pitiful, and Magnesia’s magic gave him enough of a boost that he wasn’t expecting a problem. He didn’t give anymore warning. He dipped into a crouch, shoved his shoulder into the Senshi’s hips and hauled him up. Weird guy was weak and hurt and using his bare framing hands to try and punch rock, so his judgement could obviously not be trusted. Magnesia would get them out of here. “I don’t wanna hear any fuss. Let’s go.”

Steeling himself with a deep breath, he set off at as much of a run as he could with a whole nother human adult bent over his shoulder.
