With everything moving along and her new housemate, Chillingham finally had time to look into something that had popped up as a notice. Another magical, awesome person, and if she was reading things right, they were from the same place as Blarney was! The only thing she was worried about was whether Isaiah would be rude to this new person. The disgruntled mad scientist had been moodier and moodier as she had cleaned things up and had added a personal touch to things in the old Victorian mansion. Pacing around the fountain that they were supposed to meet up at, she triple checked her list of things against what she had in the duffle bag over her shoulder to make sure she had enough supplies for cleaning, as well as some other audiobook CDs to pop into the little setup she had going there in the lab. The battery pack she had on her was charged enough that he could probably make his way through one or two of the books while she cleaned around. But she did have half a mind to leave it running while she wasn't there and put on one of those icky romance novels her mum sometimes bought. It was while she was on that thought, while making a face, that she noticed someone approaching. And for a moment, she thought that maybe they were a princess and found herself staring in wonder.

Aaru had given Joy an expectation of at least enjoying herself when she took in Chilligham's uniform, her face brightening almost immediately from a polite smile to a dimpled one of genuine pleasure as she approached, sticking out her hand. The palm of it glowed some pale sunlight color, and she had a firm handshake that seemed more like that of a businesswoman than a princess.
"You are cute as a ******** button," she announced, as usual somewhat marring her general queenly appearance with immediate casual vulgarity. "I'm so looking forward to this - thank you for your hospitality." She eyed the duffel bag. "Let me know if there's anything I can help with while we're there. And call me Joy, please, the full name is too damn long."

Looking down, Chillingham bounced excitedly over the fact that not only did they look like a princess, they had magically glowing symbols, and that was the most magical thing she'd seen that wasn't an angry snake in the sky. Shaking their hand, with more energy than firmness in her grip, she couldn't help but laugh at the words that came next. "Aw, cripes, I'm honored. You've got to tell me about how that," pointing at the glowing mark on their hand as politely as she could, " works! It's so pretty!" Then, focusing back on the question, she shifted the duffel. "Oh, this, you don't havta. I leave stuff there each time and bring trash back. I uh... apologize in advance for the bugger there... Maybe he might be nice seeing someone so regal looking though!" At least she could hope; otherwise, she definitely was going to leave the most obnoxious book she could find running for the next break between visits. "Let me know if you're ready," she said excitedly while holding out her hand again to Joy. She figured it would work like it did when she brought Freddy last time, but she always wanted to make sure they knew what was up in case she really knackered it somehow.

The barrage of enthusiasm, as always, only served to make her feel the need to be a little more cool and aloof by comparison, but she wasn't a monster, and therefore reached out to take the offered hand. "I think they're usually a bit of a d**k," she said, alluding to the ghost that awaited them on the other side. "Consider that they've been wandering around with nothing to do for a thousand years, and it's a wonder they're not worse. No pun intended," she added pleasantly. In truth, her feelings were a great deal mollified by being referred to as regal-looking. Once again, the outfit proved to be the best part of the bargain. "And I'll tell you as much as I know about how it works," she added, "but it isn't much. Beam us up, if you please."

Chillingam's eyes widened slightly in understanding before cracking up a little. "Oi, so it's not just him that has a tizzy." While she couldn't deny that being stuck looking at a mess for that long of a time might justify the man's mood, she still felt like he could be less of a wanker to her when she was trying to clean up and fix things. With another excited little nod, she held the other's hand and focused on that saying in her mind again. That excited energy of hers evened out as her lips half moved while she thought through it. Part of her was still sort of embarrassed at how serious it sounded, so she was glad she could go there without having to shout it out to everyone in the area. I pledge my life and loyalty to Saturn, and to Chillingham. I humbly request your aid, so that in return I may give you mine.
Looking up, she stared at the haunted sort of manor or well now that she'd spoken to Blarney; she was sure it must have been part of a castle before. There was so much downed stone around the sides, but that was something to deal with later. Her first goal was to scan the field of dead grass to see if Isiah was poking about, but so far it seemed like he was probably moping around the lab again. Looking back at Joy, she smiled again. "Welcome to Chillingham! It's not mighty nice right now, but at least I got the path fixed so you don't havta step on the dirt." Carefully leaving out the fact that there were apparently graves all under the soil, unmarked, of course, thanks to the mad scientist inside.

"I'm sure I've stepped in worse," she said with a grim sort of cheer, thinking of being waist-deep in a moat that smelled like rot and algae. She was surveying her surroundings with a quick, observant eye that was not without an air of critical appraisal, as if she was somehow weighing up and measuring the Wonder. Which she was, of course, for the purpose of finding it wanting compared to the Garde, even if Pendour still left a bit of a bitter taste in her mouth in terms of beautiful grandeur, since coming in second place always did taste pretty bitter to someone like herself. She gave a little nod, though, and if it was actually in satisfaction that she was still feeling good about her tiny kingdom, it at least came across as one of general approval. "What other sort of work has it needed?" she asked, gathering up her skirts to walk alongside.

With a little frown at the idea of stepping into something gross, Chillingham then nodded. "Well, at least I got all the glass up... I think." Moving on ahead, going slow enough to keep an eye out in case the mad scientist decided to pop through a wall or something again. It wasn't always intentional, she thought, maybe when there had been more to the building before it crumbled, but she was neither an architect nor a history buff, so her guess was only as good as what he had said so far, which wasn't much outside of complaining. "Well, so far I worked on the lab, got all the glass up, then got most of the shelves and tables that weren't too broken back together. I know there are holes in some of the upper floors that you can see through, but... Bambi probably won't let me try figuring that out without help or supervision." Pouting at that, she adjusted the bag on her shoulder before pushing the wooden door open and cringing at the whine of the metal hinges, which was still something she needed to fix, but the problem was she couldn't reach the top hinge to oil it. The main hall was still as dark as can be, though this time she knew the cobwebs were gone, so there wouldn't be anything surprising to walk through for her guest. "Isaiah!!!!! Don't be a shite!" she called out into the darkness, and at first she could only hear a mild grumble that sounded like it came from the lab or maybe that room she'd blocked off with a bookshelf. The last thing she needed was for Freddy to happen upon the skeleton that was pinned to the desk in that office. "This was some sort of main hall, there's metal stuff on the walls for lanterns, I think, but Bambi might be right in me not bringing kerosene here or starting fires. I haven't the foggiest what kinda chemicals he had in the lab, and even with the glass gone, something still smells." Since it hadn't left her lightheaded, it was probably fine, but she wasn't a scientist, and the one here wasn't giving her any straight or understandable answers.

"That seems wise," she said vaguely, her ear catching on the name Bambi and immediately mentally painting the picture of one of those Deep Space people, possibly with cute ears and a spotted butt. She was on the point of asking about this, but decided at the last second to pursue an inquiry closer to her own heart, her thoughts apparently running along similar lines as Chillingham's own.
"Did he - Isaiah, I take it? - not give you any useful information?" She said with a tinge of stern but gentle disapproval, as of a primary school teacher who has just been informed that Little Johnny said something rude to Little Mandy on the playground, and is already preparing a course of delicate reprimand. "Is he broken somehow?" she added, thinking of Ekstrom - thinking even, a little, of Des - and of all the myriad ways a thousand years might reduce a sapient soul to unhelpful madness and grateful, once again, for what she had. "But we can fix him."
Before Chillingham could answer, however, she lifted her own voice to call out as well, perhaps a little too confident in her abilities in this area. "Chillingham," she said, using the old name, rather than the new, at first. "Or Isaiah, if you prefer. Your protege has invited me to come ask about your research."
This was so closely bordering on an untruth that the difference was academic. But it wasn't exactly a lie, and it was good to manifest curiosity about other people's interests, if you wanted them to open up. Or show up. Or prevent their said proteges from dying in an explosion somewhere in space.

Kicking lightly at some of the small stone fragments on the floor, some of that brightness of hers dimmed. It was a bit complicated, given that the things he said made no sense to her when he did say things. But with the mention of him being broken, she froze and looked back up. "He's... strange. A right madman, I think, but... not sure if that's how he's always been or something new?" Given the skeletons and things she'd seen, she figured that he'd always been like this, but the more she thought about it, the more she wondered if that was the norm here after meeting Des. "If he wants to be fixed, he wants me to start parting together creatures..." Sticking her tongue out at the grossness of the notion, she shook her head and listened as Joy called out in a much different manner than she had. -- While the lab had been cleaned, the new additions were frustratingly out of place in his opinion. All his "pets" had been taken from him and buried outside and out of his reach now. Pacing as he mumbled to himself, he grumbled as he heard the familiar and grating voice of the child who was in charge of things now. Having half a mind just to wander somewhere else while she went on changing more and more of this space, he paused at the sound of another voice. The guest sounded older and had an accent he couldn't even remotely place, but what caught his attention was the interest in his research. Stepping through the door and still remaining in rubble, he narrowed his eyes as he towered over the pink-haired relative of his and their questionable regal-looking guest. It was odd to see someone from another group here, considering his work, but he offered a slight incline of his head in a bow. His face was still sour, almost permanently so at this point, as he rubbed at his chin and took this new person in. "Isaiah, given the nature of my research and how it is distinctly separate now from what my protege has an interest in." Stepping around the pair, seeing the bag full of who knew what, he sighed slightly before returning to stand before them. Another woman, no doubt having no actual interest in his work. Just the thought made him tired. Were there any actual scientists in this day and age? "Have you come to bury the rest of them?" he said sharply.

Joy, who was growing quite ill-tempered at how often she was running into male ghosts dismissive of their female successors - this was a category that unfortunately encompassed her own, which made it worse - managed to swallow down a snappish reply. It had been easier to sweet talk Des and yell at Pendour's ghost than it was to find some way to address this new one.
She did, however, manage it - barely - and gave him a smile, attempting to cut into the conversation before Chillingham could be forced to reply. "I feel a little slighted," she said lightly. "I came all this way - you have no idea how far - to talk to you about your work, and you shut me down right out of the gate to b***h at her in front of company. For shame. Would you like to try again?"
This was attempted in a flirtatious tone of playful correction, just to see if it worked.
