Fav. Food: She tells people it’s tofu pad tai, but really it’s chocolate cake. Or chocolate-covered strawberries. It’s chocolate. And, yes, she is also lactose intolerant and yes, she lusts after all things dairy, but unlike some twins she knows, she has self-control! (But she keeps lactaid on hand for Mason, who does not.)
Hated Food: Pork rinds, and those jerky sticks they sell at gas stations
School/Occupation: Graduating Meadowview High to attend DCU in the fall, after starting sophomore year a year early due to being homeschooled.
Hobbies:
– Journaling: Madeline has a lot of feelings, and not a lot of places to put them, so into the book it goes. She’s a life-long journaler, and has taken to bullet journaling with gusto. She probably has a whole bookshelf full of completed journals, not to mention the one that is constantly progress. She also loves scrapbooking, and has themed scrapbooks for holidays or birthdays or life events, as well as a bigger scrapbook documenting her & Mason's entire lives.
– Cooking & Baking: Initially, Madeline developed skill in the kitchen out of pure survival - the tutors and babysitters that her parents hired to keep them alive were not usually well-trained enough to make full meals, and there’s only so many bags of popcorn Madeline could eat. And anyway, the babysitters stopped coming around eventually, so someone had to keep herself and her brother alive. Somewhere along the way, it went from necessity to hobby to passion, and Madeline prides herself on her ability in the kitchen. She tends to prefer cooking to baking, but when she’s feeling pensive, the science of baking soothes her mind. She cooks vegetarian when she can, but knows her way around the most common types of meat, since Mason doesn’t share her taste and frequently claims that if he doesn’t get enough protein, he’ll die, or something.
– Documentaries/Podcasts/~Learning~: Madeline has always been a voracious reader, and that hunger for knowledge has followed her for her entire life. Whether it's 'boring' history documentaries, true crime podcasts or shows, or biographies on people she's never heard of before, Madeline is always midway through something, constantly adding to her mental filing cabinets of information, because you never knew what it might come in handy to know!
Virtues:
– Organized: Madeline’s mind palace is full of files. She has mental tabs on projects she hasn’t touched in years and people she hasn’t seen in almost as long. Madeline knows where everything is, in her life, in her house, in Mason’s life. She has their collective life–and their collective future–planned down to the minute, and she really hates it when things get off-track. This, in addition to her love of cooking, was also born out of necessity: someone had to keep herself and her brother from drowning, and it might as well be her. As such, she holds on very tightly, as she’s never had a chance to really let go.
– Focused: When Madeline has a goal in mind - a personal goal, an academic goal, or later on a professional goal - nothing will get between her and success. This can sometimes be…problematic, to her personal relationships, if she feels those around her aren’t pulling their weight or contributing appropriately, but mostly, it’s herself (and Mason) she pushes forward so relentlessly. Everyone else can get on board or get out of the way (and most of them do not get on board, if her utterly empty social calendar is to be believed).
– Supportive: The thing that keeps Madeline from being absolutely unbearably self-centered is her heart. When she feels it’s a cause or a person who is worthy of her time and attention, Madeline is absolutely willing to use her considerable mental powers - that relentless determination to succeed - for the good of others or the good of a worthy organization. Underneath it all, she just wants to help, and she believes that she knows the best ways to help in…pretty much every situation.
Flaws:
– Controlling: When Madeline believes she knows what’s best, when’s best, and why best, she can get a little nutty about everything going exactly according to plan. She has yet to realize that not everything can be controlled, so gosh dang it, she sure is going to try!
– Obsessive/Anxious: The dark side of focus is obsession. Madeline tends toward anxiety, which means that she tends to get stuck in brain loops, especially on things she worries about (which is…a lot of things, don’t tell Mason). It’s not always a bad thing; she’s been called obsessive about getting herself and her brother into college, for instance, but at times her intense focus does border up on mania that won’t rest, even when Madeline herself absolutely should.
-- Guarded: Madeline has been left to fend on her own and protect herself and her brother for as long as she can remember. As such, she is extremely resistant to the idea of letting other people into their little world; more especially is she reluctant to let other people into her world. She has confused her loneliness for self-reliance, and that doesn't make it easy for her to let people in. She believes she doesn't need anyone, or anything, except for herself and her brother. She trends toward hyper-independence, and resists attempts by anyone else to tell her what she should or shouldn't be doing.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: Slightly rounder almond-shaped eyes; same green-blue-gray-hazel as Mason.
Hair: Madeline straightens her hair from its naturally wavy form and wears either a ponytail or a braid in her day to day life, just to keep it out of her face and out of her way.
Face: Madeline’s face is slightly rounder and more delicate than Mason’s, but they have the same freckles and the same somewhat angular chin, as well as the same highly-expressive eyebrows.
Skin Tone: #f6dbd2. She's pale. Pale pale pale pale. She's not paper-white, but she's Irish, so...Madeline keeps many, many bottles of sunscreen on hand.
Body Type: Petite, slightly curvy. Mason got all the height :C
Clothes: Sundresses, cottagecore; all very well-fitting, but not overly tight or revealing. When at home, she’s a big fan of sweatpants. When she's trying to #twin with Mason, she doesn't mind leaning into his mostly-black aesthetic, so long as there's some pop of color (or glitter). They are also big fans of plaid (#pladeline lives!).
Wonder Description: As the whole cave system of Hang Son Doong is...the largest in the world...I would love if the Wonder could be focused on the 'Garden of Edam', which is where the rainforest and river are found. inside the caves!!!
Uniform: I would love if the Page outfit could be very similar to Blarney's Page outfit, but in Cybele colors (leaning into the 'druidic' descriptor at this stage) - specifically the medium purple as the main color, with the rest in whatever element/aspect looks good to the artist. The accessories can/should be different, but I love the idea starting out with a tunic that changes as she levels up. As she grows from Page to Squire and Knight, it will deviate more and more from twinning with her brother, and become less 'druidic' and more 'mythological greek hunter' aesthetic. However I am bad at clothes, so a lot of this will be CC up to the artist! I'm working on a pinterest board tho which may (or may not lol) help some.
Top -- Something tunic-y. Maybe sleeveless? Bottoms -- Pants pls! Gloves -- Fingerless gloves perhaps Belt -- Sure, belt it up (leaning Grecian more than druidic/celtic) Shoes -- Boots please Shoulders -- Gimme some greek fasteners. Accessories -- CC!
Weapon & Magic
Page Weapon: A small Y-shaped basic slingshot, made of wood. Uses found projectiles.
Squire: A shepherd'sslingshot. Uses found projectiles; with practice, has a range of up to 50 feet.
At Squire stage, Edam's magic has a range of 15 feet. Channeling the hunting prowess of Cybele, she creates an illusory trap hole, about 10 feet wide and 10 feet deep - a pit with (dull) stalagmites scattered along the bottom. Targets will fall into a magical trap hole that drops them together into what seems to be a pocket dimension; to anyone who is outside of the magic it will seem as if they have just disappeared.. Falling onto/against the stalagmites may cause the sensation of mild/moderate bludgeoning damage (or lasting injuries at player's discretion), but as the stalagmites are not sharp, anyone falling would not become impaled. When the magic is no longer being channeled, targets are freed from the illusion. Targets cannot escape the magical trap by climbing out, jumping, or teleporting. The magic can be channeled for up to 45 seconds.
Knight Weapon: A staffsling. Uses found projectiles. With copious practice, has a range of up to 100 feet.
At Knight stage, Edam's magic has a range of 20 feet. Channeling the hunting prowess of Cybele, she creates an illusory trap hole, about 15 feet wide and 15 feet deep - a pit with dull and sharp stalagmites scattered along the bottom. Targets will fall into a magical trap hole that drops them together into what seems to be a pocket dimension; to anyone who is outside of the magic it will seem as if they have just disappeared.. Falling onto/against the stalagmites may cause the sensation of mild/moderate bludgeoning damage or scratching/slashing damage (or lasting injuries at player's discretion). Targets cannot see the hole they fell through, as if a cover has been placed over them; they are trapped in what feels like almost complete darkness and will have a distinct sensation of being hunted by some monstrous beast. They may hear or feel like something is moving in the pit with them, and may be overcome by sensations of fear or panic.. When the magic is no longer being channeled, targets are freed from the illusion. Targets cannot escape the magical trap by climbing out, jumping, or teleporting. The magic can be channeled for up to 60 seconds.
