The following is a compilation of zOmg guides and resources you can also find in the zOmg forum pinned threads or other disorganized threads.
zOmg is still playable in 2025! through different applications described below and Gaia (Lanzer) will be working on releasing a version compatible with normal browsers (Check Updates).
Install the Adobe Air installer, then launch the zOMG application and it will be installed on your computer. Look for an application named "battleair" in your application folder.
The second is downloading a flash supporting browser, Gaia recommends Waterfox and to use it exclusively for zOmg to avoid any safety issues.
This version is an archived version from December 2020. Please do not use this browser on any websites outside of Gaiaonline to avoid harmful flash programs. Do not update this browser as it will remove its Flash support
Howtofindcrews?
Sadly zOmg is a bit quiet these days. There are some crews especially on weekends but they are usually organized through the application discord.
If you don't have discord you can use the Recrewt forums. Flamingo Killer 97 has the most popular thread to organize crews and you may ask her for a discord as well.
Ralosdomo is another user you can ask for a discord invite.
Friday afternoons-evenings are a special day on zOmg where meetings organized by Mavdoc an ex. Dev for zOmg take place usually in Barton Town fountain but places may vary. You can check them in the Dev Meats Thread.
This guide posted below is an attempt at covering the most relevant information for beginners and intermediate players (level 1 to 10) (but not total newbies to rpg as the Newbie's Guide) citing many other references. It is extensive without going too deep on things so feel free to read at your own pace or use the other resources if you prefer, It's divided in sections for a level up guide, ring set ups, general tips & tactics, and a journal to give you an example of my ring choices from quests.

From 1 to 10 zOmg comprehensive solo guide (+ progress journal)
*Play the game on Platinum, Gold gives less rewards*
*Play the game with others if possible, it is more profitable this way*
Introduction
This guide is a breakthrough of the fundamental principles to progress in the game and some relevant topics assuming you are familiar with essential concepts like controls, terminology ( Glossary by AterAliquis,), equipping/using inventory, attacking, kneeling, using the null chamber and the different stats like stamina/will power and rpg questing/farming mobs. They are discussed in detail in Nespin's Newbie guide and it is easy to get a grasp on them. I included some commentaries about farming in crew but it is more likely that you will be playing this game solo nowadays.
This guide focus the ways to level up and progress solo, but includes basic info on ring recommendations, location of the quests/(missions), ring sets and daily chance NPCs with links to the wiki and public guides listed here. It is important to check the tips, although not a key to progress they are useful to battle efficiently and information and links to relevant advanced topics. It excludes aspects like the mini-events, the colosseum, the end and post-game that is covered in guides for: Shallow Seas (Guide by CleoSombra) and Dead Man Shadow (Guide by Omnileech) , lore or badges (Guide by Mizz Faith) and certain advanced topics like the damage (Guide by Valheita), hate (Guide by OMFG Taylor & HotRed_streak) and armor (Explanation -bottom of the post- by Arkyron) systems.
Beginners can opt to read just the basic principles + the tips especially combat tactics; ring recommendations are important but guides like Valheita's cover them pretty good as well. I included many links to guides of relevant topics, along with the spoiler they meant to serve as references. The last part was my progress hour by hour solo completing all main Ring quests (except the last one that requires a team) and reaching level 10.
Brief game explanation
In this rpg you can obtain a different set of 8 skills with 8 rings and increase these ring power with orbs. I use 4 simple categories for the different rings/skills: some cause damage to enemies (attacks), some boost your stats (buffs), some heal (heal), and some control the enemies (crowd control), To increase the ring powers you collect orbs, by using orbs on your rings you increase each ring level known as Charge Level (CL), and it is how you level up your "total level" called Overall Charge Level (OCL). Your OCL is a weigthed average of each ring CL and it increases your overall stats like health, dodge, accuracy, damage and willpower. You obtain rings and orbs doing quests and killing enemies the "animated". As you finish quests and talk to Npcs you start to unravel the mysterious origin of the animated.
1) Get any and all quests available in an area. There aren't many and the log book keeps track of them all (access it by pressing "T" )
2) Complete all Ring quest of each area to build your ring inventory
3) Have a balanced ring set between attacks, bandage and buffs. (Beginners may choose defensive buffs that don't require additional action or precise timing, balancing them with 3-4 attacks.). (See this amazing Guide by Valheita or my ring recommendations section)
4) Use orbs on your main 8 rings first, using the swap feature if you find another more useful ring to replace a leveled up ring. (See Orb economy in Tips)
5) Explore new areas, complete their quests and fight enemies according to your level (See useful tips 'Conning') for the ideal orb rewards. Switch to orb farming if the quests are completed and fighting in the new area has become less rewarding/boring and your level is low for the next area.
6) Farm in highly profitable orb farming areas: Sandpit Fluffs (Fluff Farming), Otami Ruins and orb spilling events . Areas with treasure chests and side quests like the Waterworks, Golden Beach and Zen temple are lesser but still ok alternatives, areas without chests and harder to kill enemies like Old Aqueduct and Bassken are less profitable.
Note 1: The farming in fluffs/Otami is for solo. Sadly farming money and orbs is subpar in solo. To farm money or orbs efficiently you need a group/crew and farm in the Papa Saw or Shallow Seas (Smob guide by Owlie) dungeons.
Note 2: If at any point you get lost there is a map, open it with the key "M" or "L". In the map window you can see your current quests type "T". This game is very buggy, if at one point you get stuck type:
/stuck
Note 3: If you see one buy and use a double orb when farming orbs (not when questing/exploring), it saves you 8.3 hours of grinding as you would need to farm more as you progress. You'd only need 1 at about level 5-6 coincidentally when there are less main quests to get orbs from.

Level Up Guide
Fluff Farming is the fastest option to farm solo, if you are lucky to find or patient to assemble a Crew Papa Saw and Shallow Seas are the best options out there. Completing missions will give you enough orbs to progress at first, later farming in profitable areas is necessary.
Level 1 complete all the quests from Leon and Remo in Village Greens to obtain a Bandage ring and a Ring of your choosing + All the Barton (North of Village Greens) quests available (exceptions: Ian's quest, Marcus' quest, require higher levels) + The Waterworks Missions in Barton at D-2. You should have lvl 2-2.5.
Level 2 Go to Bill's Ranch (East of Village Greens) to complete the quest from Larry then Bill’s (ring) quests and optionally Hans’. You can enter the Dead Man Shadow (Dms) Dungeon and do quests for Albert. Doing Purvis side quest along with Bill's quest for Garlic -both available at the same time-. Plus either fluff farm if you haven't got to CL3 and have an area of effect ring, play the Waterworks, or do Hans', Larry's and Purvis' side quests as slower alternatives. At level 3-3.5 with a good ring set you should be able to complete Dead Man pass Ian's mission.
Level 3 To the north of Bill Farm you access Zen Gardens. Complete all Kasumi quests for a ring. Then you can Fluff farm until you are about lvl 3.3-3.5 to complete Kin's quests and obtain another ring, Kin's last quest is difficult, try killing enemies one by one running away from the rest (divide and conquer tactic). Side quests in the area from Trip, Arnold and Maestro in Barton are a slow alternative to Fluff farming, you can do them at the same time as Kin's quests but fluff farming is faster. There are also 3 chests in the area.
At level 3.5 to 4 you should be able to bypass the wolves of Bass'ken Lake (killing or avoiding the first 2 and killing/avoiding the rest) and unlock all of the null crystals (see spoiler below).
Level 4. North of Zen enter the Bassken Lake Logan's C-5 quests (ring) and Ryan C-7, then Gustav C-6 quests, Ryan's side quest.
Level 5. You can farm and open a chest in Buccaneer Beach at level 5 (Northwest of Bassken). In the Old Aqueduct (North East of Bassken) you can try to do Concerned Citizen's (ring) first 2 quests, the 3rd may prove difficult as the enemies are very tricky unlike the next area Gold Beach, you can try the side quests from Roderick and G-Corp tech lab preferably at the highest level 6.1. Concerned Citizen's 3rd quest at level 5 is difficult solo unless you are experienced and have a good ring repertoire; at high level 6 (close to 7 or above) it should be easier. At any point you can skip them and try level 6 quests.
Levels 6-7.4 Gold Beach (North east of Bassken, east of Buccaneer Beach), has only sidequests, worth doing them all the first time. It also has 5 chests. NPC Clara (lost mementos). Brodie, CeeJay, Benny and Ike (only at night, only once). Except Clara each ask you to kill a type of beach animated, you can complete them while opening the chests. For the chest in B7 a mini boss "Sandblast" needs to be defeated; first clear the other sand castle in B8, then another castle appears and then Sandblast. They are slow so you can run to other screen and rest while they respawn (See move and divide in combat tactics).
Levels 7.5-8 Otami Ruins (North East of Gold Beach) Star Blaze quest for a Ring, preferably start Jerry quest for orbs, Rin-Lin will give you additional quest following Blaze's and Morgan has unlimited collecting quest. The zone has 6 chests so it is good for farming.
Levels 8-10 Shallow Seas (Northwest of Gold Beach)/Buccaneer's Bay (North of Buccaneer's Beach). After finishing your quests in Otami you unlock the final dungeon that completes the game, you need a team of 3 for it. The dungeon is good for farming solo if you leave halfway (Smob), you should know how to Rage 4 buffs and have a decent or complete ring repertoire. Buccaneer's Bay is not profitable for orbs but you can get level 8+ rings solo to swap them for better ones, it is easier farming rings there than in shallow seas.
Level 10-12 Post-Game Is done in Dead Man Pass, besides the Halloween Event is the only place to obtain Shadow Orbs (Shorbs).

All rings have their use and there are different combat tactics but only certain sets help the most as a solo player. The criteria I use for the main set is efficiency, the fastest your ring-set gets the job done and heals you the better. There is also a specific set for farming efficiently that requires and Area of Effect (aoe) ring or 2.
Your ring combinations in your Main set need to be effective at killing enemies, completing, quest and dungeons, they need to achieve 1) A high damage output that conserves stamina (e.g. hack-slash+other decent attacks combo), 2) fast stamina regeneration (Divinity) and healing (Bandage), 3) Good defenses/controls.
For farming you'd need at least 1 area of effect attack (other than slash or hornet's nest) but preferably 2, + Healing(Band)/Stam Regen(Div) + Speed (Coy) + a mix of another attack, Taunt ring and defensive or passive buffs (Fortune Favor ring's luck is good).
Divinity (Div) and Bandage are essential giving you a big boost in combat, they are overall effective as they allow you to recover during or after combat.
Coyote (Coy) is non-essential but useful for increasing speed outside of battles (and luck in fights). Coy and div work the same at level 1 and can be buffed in the null chamber and you won't have to carry them or use orbs on them (See Tips Null Chamber Buffing). For convenience I always carry (and use orbs on) Div.
Balance your main ring set between buffs(skills)/attacks, preferably use 3-4 buffs(skills) + Bandage or 3-5 attacks. I go with 4 attacks. You can use all of your buff rings in "null chamber buffing" (Explained in tips) and keep crowd control or passive rings like Scaredy Cat or Fitness in your buff side. Avoid using two of the same type of specialized rings (two range attacks, two AoE) and if you combine specialized rings (a range + AoE) make sure you get enough damage having 2 melee rings. (Good Guide by Valheita on the Generalist set).
Keep in mind having 3 attacks is a lower damage output but it causes less stamina depletion, consider having at least hack + (slash/mantis) to increase your damage if you use 3 rings. Having 5 attacks can deplete stamina faster so is best to be mindful and precise with the attacks, the advantage of 4-5 attacks is versatility including a combination of specialized rings (range attack + a AoE).
Not all rings are available from the start as rewards for quests, try to get attacks at first if you lack at least 3, then balance those with buffs. Buffs eventually become essential for dungeons to resist vs high health enemies in the middle game.
You can increase a ring(s) level higher than the others but it does not make much of a difference in a normal game play. Leveling an attack ring higher than others allows you to do more damage with that single attack at the cost not increasing stats that would have increased with your CL like overall damage, damage-taken, health, health regen, accuracy, dodge, willpower. In a normal gameplay however health and the damage-taken from enemies are important to deal with multiple weaker enemies faster, but leveling first your attacks before buffs is useful. It's important to notice that over-leveling a ring 2 levels past your max CL cancels its effect but in dungeons when you need to supress your level it can be advantageous. (See tips Balancing unsuppressed rings or this Guide by Omnileech now reposted by Thard Verad )
Some rings have the same effect at level 1 those are My Density, Divinity, Coyote Spirit, Improbability Sphere, Fleet Feet (without rage) and Pot Lid. (Details in this Guide by OMFG science)
All melee attacks are good for damage, the highest damage output is the mantis/slash/hack combo, combinations with bump/guns/shuriken/hotfoot or a good area of effect attack like dervish or Fire Rain are good. Shark Attack, Hornet Nest are gimmicky to use. (Details in this Guide by OMFG science)
Limit specialized rings: Limit Area of effect (aoe) attacks to 1, they can be effective but are situational and consume too much stamina esp. Fire Rain. While farming against weak crowds of enemies (e.g. ps, fluff farming) is ok to have 2+ aoe attacks. I use 1 or 0. I prefer Fire Rain for its damage output even if it's slower, I combine it with Dervish both require less precision than Water Balloon/Hornet Nest.
Limit range attacks, only 1 does the job and there are better options for damage, Dungeons where you can attack at a distance like Stone Coatl are an exception (See combat tactics snipping). I use 1 or 0.
Defensive Buffs like Pot Lid, Rock Armor, Improbability Sphere and Teflon Spray or health-increasing Meat and Healing Halo are good for beginners as they don't require precise timing or to be used with Rage during a battle unlike crowd control buffs. They save you stamina that can be used on healing. The first 4 ones always build your rage no matter how much you use them.
In dungeons like Papa Saw or in the Otami Ruins Area Iron Will is important to avoid the sleep (or scare) effect.
For advanced play in dungeons like Dead Man Shadow/Shallow Seas/Colosseum or areas like Old Aqueduct, crowd control rings like Scaredy Cat, Sandtrap (See Holding Hate in this Guide by OMFG Taylor & HotRed_streak) Duct Tape, Gumshoe can be highly effective but require precision. The effect of Adrenaline is very good to kill bosses with Critical hits.
Example of rings I selected from quests: 1st Fire Rain to have a good aoe attack to farm in fluffs. 2nd. Hack to complete my 4 attacks set, 3th. Coy complementing the buffs side, 4th Divinity essential for buff side (completing all essential rings I needed), 5th Iron Will to complete Papa Saw's dungeon/Otami, 6th Fleet Feet for the Gauntlet mission/Fast Daily Chance, 7th Rock armor as an additional build-rage-buff, 8th planning on Fitness Passive Buff.

Useful tips
General
Learn Keyboard shortcuts, this will save you crucial time in battle allowing you to fight efficiently. "Q" Allows you to target automatically so you don't waste time with the pointer, it is pretty useful even if situationally is not the best option. The numeric keyboard (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 ) allows you to select any attack or buff faster than the point&click of the mouse.
Conning Aka Fight according to your level, (to increase your level is in null only): In almost all areas except in dungeons you can decrease your level to fight enemies that match your current CL or are 0.4 points above or below CL as this is the ideal lvl for rewards, enemies that match your CL are marked green but fighting enemies that are 1.4 levels higher marked Yellow is similar reward-wise albeit killing them is harder and slower. To increase your level to your max again you need to enter a Null Chamber.
Use Max Ghi energy: Ghi energy is a passive boost that increases your statistics: willpower, health, luck, dodge and accuracy but is always depleting from its max capacity unless you are in company of others. You recharge it in Barton Town or in company of others (4 or more). It can be annoying to have its counter full all the time but it is especially helpful in difficult quests or dungeons. You don't have the full stat boost of Ghi at first, you start with willpower and continue with the others the more you interact with the game in the forms of "talking, killing monsters, and moving across screens." (Source and mini Guide by Fr33d0m4ever.
Using and Building Rage: Rage increases the damage or effect of the rings, sometimes adding more effects to them. It has 4 levels, normally you use non charged rage attacks (Rage level 1/R1). Once you build a level of rage, you can unleash it you by keeping the button of the attack/buff pressed until the charge. You build rage attacking, using a buff effect for the first time and certain buffs can build rage after being reused: "Rock Armor", "Pot Lid", "Teflon Spray", "improbability Sphere", "Fleet Feet" so you can manipulate your rage with them. Remember the effect of buffs in Rage 4 (R4) last 15 minutes, R4 attacks are very useful vs bosses! Try practicing building and using rage during combats until you master it. An
Null chamber buffing: You don't need to equip all the buffs. You can buff all of them the null chamber and change to your rings at the exit they will last 15 min. There is another trick to manipulate your rage besides the one mentioned above (with constat use of the R1 rings) and involves swaping the position from a ring in your hand, as long as you have Ghi health bonus your HP will be lowered when you do this and you be able to use heal to build rage. (Thanks to Thard for this info). It's possible to R4 all the buffs in null so you carry more useful rings like adrenaline, crowd controls or passives.
Balancing unsuppressed rings. In some dungeons like Shallow Seas combinations of certain low and high level rings are effective considering certain rings work the same at level 1. (Guide to balance rings by Omnileech now reposted by Thard Verad)
Test for fun ring sets that give you a bonus, the Pirate and Ninja set are viable, the medic set is useful to collect dailies. (Guide by Pie)
Recipes can be crafted in the Back Alley Bargans Store (click on "Make Recipes" Below Talk to Lex) or here.
Orb/Ring Economy
Acquire a Double Orb deluxe. Investing in them saves you hours of grinding! They can be bought with a day of dailies, or slowly acquired with the 1 Gcash bonus in the Bulleting Board.
Use Swap for rings, in the null chamber inventory you can swap the levels of rings. useful when getting a high level ring you don't use to switch its level for one you use more. If you have a repeated ring you can salvage it but some low level rings can have an use in dungeons (See balancing unsuppressed rings).
Try to don't savage rings you have only one copy of, they may be of use later.
Some rings work the same at level 1 namely My Density, Coyote Spirit, Divinity, Improbability Sphere, Pot Lit and non rage 4 Feet Feet. Unless they are part of your main 8, consider leveling them last.
In Bassken Lake there is a single giftbox floating up and east Barton's North Gate. It gives you a ring once defeated.
Learn enemy behavior: The animated act in 4 ways: Passive, they don't attack unless provoked; Passive in mobs, all part of the mob attack when one is provoked; Aggressive, they attack unprovoked; Callers, they run to call other animated to join them.
Heal during combat, it can be done really fast using shortcut keys, (Space to target, then the Bandage key, then "Q" to target back). This is the key to survive most dungeon bosses.
Kneel down to recover stamina faster. Kneeling down makes you receive x 3 times more damage so avoid doing it during battle close to the enemies.
Move and divide: You are not an easy target for the enemies if you keep moving. Kill enemies one by one either starting with the weaklings if you know they are not going to respawn or the strongest. Very useful for dungeons like Papa Saw or vs the P3 Commander.
Snipe: Use a long distance attack to attract 1 or 2 enemies and kill the mob one by one. Useful to collect custodied chests.
You can get pushed out of the boundaries of the map, type:
/stuck
if you are locked.
Your CL can get stuck and the game doesn't allow you to increase it to your Max CL. This happens after a time of playing. Restart (Permanent) or switch to the max CL available and equip low level rings until you see your CL on fire then re-equip your max level rings (Temporary)
The bonus effect of a ring-set doesn't work. This happens when you equip them after a time. Restart
You may see some holiday events like Easter on January
Village Greens: Dina, near Leon, where you start the game
Bill's Ranch: Rubella, to the Northwest of the Ranch
Zen Gardens: Burton, to the West-middle of the map
Bass'ken Lake: Rocko, up the North Gate of Barton
Old Aqueduct: Spirit, in front of the Null Crystal
Buccaneer Boardwalk: Bob, all the way Up from Rocko in the Northeast part of Bassken
