2025 Star Festival Prompt
The Meteor Shower (3) : It wouldn't be a star festival without a meteor shower! Right on time, a beautiful array of shooting stars graces the night sky. This time of year is unnaturally clear and it's incredibly easy to see the stars. Most meteor fragments appear to be little white or yellow lights streaming across the sky, but if you watch closely enough you may find that some of them seem to be a whole rainbow of colors. The scientists have reported that it's just different components burning up as they enter the atmosphere, but there's something undeniably magical about it.
Kissling was out on patrol when he saw the meteor shower. It was truly beautiful; so much so that he decided to get to the nearest and highest rooftop he could as fast as possible to watch from up there. Taking out a fushia star charm he had found earlier, he looked from it up at the sky to the real stars. It was amazing how even the light pollution from Destiny City didn’t dim the falling stars or any of the others, for that matter, either. Did it have something to do with the magic of senshi and other supernatural beings residing there? Maybe it had to so with their connection to the stars and space in general?
Smiling to himself, Kissling put away the star charm and sat himself down on the rooftop Circling his knees with both arms, his neck craned upward to watch the sky. He started trying to count and keep track of how many different colors of stars he could see. Pink, bright blue, orange, green…was that lilac? Violet? He had learned of a lot more names for colors since he had started working as an assistant for Kit and Tymiko, helping them with their business of writing, illustrating, editing, and publishing books. It was a great deal more work than he was used to – probably because he wasn’t really used to doing much work at all – but a job was a job and he was happy to be able to hold one for once. It made him feel needed; like he wasn’t just a waste of space existing in the world. He was incredibly grateful for that. Before he’d had such a job, he hadn’t known how much he needed a reason to exist. Only after he had one did he realize what a big difference it made in his outlook on life.
Being a senshi was pretty nice, too. Aside from the freedom it gave him and the wonderful enhancement of his abilities as a human, he felt somewhat needed to help his court gain energy and expand. He didn’t exactly enjoy stealing energy from others, but it wasn’t like it was permanent like stealing a life and they could always make more. Most of the time, they didn’t even notice it was gone, either, so at least he didn’t feel as guilty taking energy. And at least he didn’t have to hurt others like the Negaverse sometimes seemed to have to. Not that he that he could even if he did due to the nature of his magic as Sailor Kissling.
With a deep, blissful sigh, the Dark Mirror Senshi let go of his knees and folded his arms behind his head as he lay on his back atop the roof, staring up at the falling stars. He knew people tended to wish for things on stars, especially falling ones, but if he made a wish on a star, what would he wish for? Especially on Tanabata, or Hoshimatsuri, the Star Festival? Sure, there might have been plenty of things he would have liked to have, but as for what he truly wanted and needed, he thought he had pretty much everything he could think of. How nice it was to be happy with and grateful for what he had in life.
