Urania was set to meet a senshi she had met at Celadon’s meeting. She got out of the shop early that day. She put up her apron and powered up. She stood at the designated meeting place early. There was something she was wondering about. What were these storms? How were they different from the usual weather? And did they appear on homeworlds? Surely, there was something odd about the storms. But what? What was their origin? Perhaps meeting with a member of the technology team could help her. ❂

A nervous excitement had been simmering within Rowan ever since she and Urania had planned to meet. She wished that Earth would have the courtesy to be more hospitable to newer residents like the Deep Space Senshi, but then she couldn’t exactly blame her home planet for something that most likely came from someplace else. Still, she wished it had the capacity to hold it at bay a little more. At least it was better than Tempesti had been. She transformed quickly, a whirl of wind and feathers replacing her dress with the fuku that marked her as other. However much she might admire other senshi, there was something about her own magic that still made her skin crawl. Tempesti hoped that it would fade with time, but even if it didn’t, the goal was the same: use this to help people. Justify having it. To that end, the senshi was determined to do whatever she could to make sure that her allies were safe (or as safe as they could be) and supported. She put on a smile as she approached Sailor Urania, hopefully she had something useful to offer the deep space senshi.

“Tempesti! So nice to meet with you. I can’t wait to get started. I’ve got so many ideas.”Urania was absolutely sparkling with energy. Her eyes shined abnormally. “But before I get too into what I want to research. How long have you been a senshi for? I’ve only been on Earth a couple years. Of course, you’ve been on Earth longer.”❂

Tempesti smiled at Urania’s enthusiasm, though she couldn’t quash the concern she felt for the starry-eyed senshi. She was staring down one possible apocalypse, but if she understood where deep space senshi came from, this would be the second one the other woman had to face. “I’ve only been a senshi since, let’s see, hmm, January. So not long at all.” Tempesti felt the usual swell of embarrassment at the admission that her pool of magical knowledge was barely ankle deep. “I just…really want to help. However I can.”

“You can definitely help.”Urania nodded. A fresh set of eyes and a new perspective were always of assistance. Tempesti could just spark a new idea on how to handle these storms. “I would like to visit my world and see if there are storm there — like here on Earth. Would you come with me?”❂

Tempesti’s eyes widened with surprise as she heard Sailor Urania’s request, she had been to Asmodeus’ planet as part of a group to help her, but no one had ever specifically requested that she come off-planet with them. There was no question that she was willing to help, especially having seen what she did on Tempesti. She harbored the less than realistic hope that Urania would be spared whatever was happening, but the possibility that any place was truly safe seemed less and less likely with every new entry to the database. “Of course I’ll come. I should warn you though, I was on Tempesti when this started and it was bad there. Worse than it is here. I had a difficult time powering up and it took more than one try to get my phone to bring me back. I don’t know if it’s the same on every planet out there, but we should be prepared for anything.”

“It happened on your world?” Her lips pressed together as she thought. “Could it be that the storms are effecting everyone’s world?”A storm. That was everywhere all at once. This couldn’t be natural, could it? How were the storms being created? How were they different than typical weather? When had they started? And when would they stop? “More reason that we need to find out more about this storm. Are you ready if it is on my world, too?”She held out her hand. “Hold my hand and we’ll be there faster than starlight.”❂

Tempesti grimaced slightly, wishing she didn’t have to be the bearer of bad news, but it was kinder than leaving a possible outer space doomsday storm as an unpleasant surprise. “It did. The lightning was striking all over the place. The rest of the worlds though, I have no idea. I don’t want to think it is, but I have no idea.” She let the unpleasant possibility hang in the air for a second longer than she wanted to. “I am ready to deal with it if it’s on your world too. I don’t want anyone else going into this without backup if they don’t have to.” Without hesitation, she reached out and took the other senshi’s hand. Whatever she might fear meant nothing against the scale of this.

They arrive right out side a large tower. It was made of obsidian stone and some sort of purple wood and it had a large crystal at the top. Large double doors awaited you with a constellation pattern. If you looked up, you could see the starts perfectly. At least, right above you. There, in the distance, far, far off, was a telltale storms. “Not here too.” Urania said. “I was wondering if maybe it hadn’t found my world. Well, that goes for positive thinking, I suppose. But it’s so far off. I’m not sure if we can study it directly.”❂

The other senshi’s anxiety sent a pang of sadness through Tempesti. She’d sincerely hoped that somehow Urania’s world would be spared this unwanted visitor, but the fact that it was keeping an uncharacteristically courteous distance was a small mercy. With luck, it would stay over there and mind its own business for a while. “I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. I was hoping it would be different here. At least it’s better than it was on Tempesti.” She was not eager to repeat the experience of being awakened by supernatural lightning, even less so to see others face the same danger. Her phone appeared in her hand and she flicked over to the camera. “I wonder how it decides where it wants to poke its nose.” If it was a storm, who could even say if it had thoughts. It seemed entirely unlikely that what seemed to be a cosmic force of nature would have any decision making process a human mind would recognize. She couldn’t be certain of the etiquette of filming and photography on alien worlds, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask. Do you mind if I film a bit? I can leave out anything you don’t want recorded, of course.”

“Go ahead. It’ll give me time to think.” Urania said. She watched as Tempesti filmed. What could she do now? “What if we made some sort of devices that could record the storm? Not like a film, but capture its engergy?”❂

Tempesti pulled out her phone immediately upon hearing Urania’s approval, fumbling slightly in her eagerness before getting a firm grip. The flickering violet of the sky seemed even further away on the tiny screen, the miniscule undulations of its eerie form somehow more unsettling to her troubled nerves. Under other less apocalyptic circumstances it might have been beautiful, but tamping it into the space of something that could rest in the palm of her hand Her eyes widened at the deep space senshi’s suggestion. If something like that was possible, they might be able to contribute something real to the database. She had no delusions of being able to stop the thing entirely, but if they could bring themselves closer to something resembling understanding it could be another weapon in their arsenal. “Do you think we could? That would be amazing. I mean, if we could measure its energy from different distances I bet we’d be able to create some kind of warning system. Or maybe the kit-Mauvians could figure out a way to counter it.” A swell of hopeful excitement rose within her as she spoke.

“That's what I’m thinking. We compare the energy from it whereever we can get it — Earth, homeworlds — and see what it looks like. But we’ll have to capture it somehow. I’m thinking the most direct way would be to gather the lightning.”Urania thought. This was a difficult problem. Better suited for a Mauvian than her. In this life, she didn’t know many Mauvians. So she’d have to start solving the problem on her own and with Tempesti. “Could we make a lightening rod?”❂

Tempesti thought for a few seconds, it had been a while since her high school physics class but from what she remembered lightning rods were relatively simple. She didn’t see why they couldn’t build one. They’d probably need some kind of welding or soldering tool. She wasn’t sure how they’d actually contain the lightning once they attracted it. Regular lightning had immense power, but this was hardly regular lightning. It was very obviously dangerous, but seemed to be dangerous in a different way entirely. When it struck her it hadn’t been strong enough to be fatal but there was no way to know if containing it could work unless they tried. “I think we probably could, I don’t know how but I’m sure there are books or websites we could look at. How would we store it though?”
