She had had every good intention of not powering up more than absolutely necessary, in some sort of stubborn defiance of every expectation being placed on her against her will.

The unfortunate thing, however, was that - although she resisted the idea - it felt good to be Joy. It was not lost on her that the moment of her transformation had come when she had been impatiently reflecting on the incompleteness of her attempts to re-invent herself, and her frustration at her arrogant and unshakeable belief that she had been meant for something bigger and better than everything she was.

And now, of course, she was resisting the reinvention with all her might, because it hadn't been the one she wanted and brought with it the dreary weight of obligation - except when she couldn't resist at all, and found herself, as now, creeping along the streets of Destiny City as someone she still felt that she wasn't. It was, at least, less frightening than it sometimes was - peaceful, and with the comforting knowledge that someone much more powerful than herself, and not an enemy, was somewhere nearby.

She moved towards the feeling vaguely, pursuing the hazy sensation haphazardly and hopefully, seeking out the security of someone who could probably save her a** if things went tits up.

It was still a bit hard to tell exactly how the entire thing worked. But she felt a little bold, and also a little frustrated, and as the energy signature grew stronger she offered up a bold little call into the peaceful streets: "Marco."

Hy-Brasil was out on one of her usual patrols but the night was proving to be a quiet one. Only a singular youma earlier had dared to break the peace and the Knight had quickly dispatched the creature back to wherever it originated from. It was for the better for things to remain quiet. After the stirring from December that she had been quite embroiled in, Hy had been doing her best to keep her head low. While she felt capable of handling herself in a one-on-one, the chances of running into someone who'd call a plethora of others to attack her was plausible. Hy was under no impression that she was safe, by any means. She'd been seen by many that night in the house.

Still, after laying low, her need to get out and do something had overridden her better judgement. She just needed to be careful.

And, speaking of careful, she was practically on top of the small signature of energy when she felt the bright aura of another order member and heard the call out.

Gods, these babies.

The Earth Knight found her way to the page easy enough after that call out. She focused her senses out in case someone else had heard, but as she walked up she felt nothing to be worried over. Still, she kept herself on alert.

"You know, yelling out like that is not necessarily the smartest thing. You're making yourself a lot easier to find that way. Who knows if anyone else was floating around here." Hy's chastisement wasn't sharp but instead addressed in a matter-of-fact tone. "If you're going to be out here, you need to be careful. Especially as a page."

She studied the woman for a moment. Noting the design, colors and lastly the symbols. "Another Earth page, hm?" She cocked her head to the side curiously. "Sorry you've been pulled into this, but I suppose I should welcome you to the fold."

Her immediate bristling was only somewhat offset by the acknowledgement of being pulled in - and it wasn't quite enough to keep her from immediately getting squirrelly in reply.

"There's nothing nasty around that I can tell," she said. "And if you mean a youma, my experience has been that they don't care if you're creeping around silent as a mouse - if they want a piece, they'll take it." She paused. "Anyway, I could tell you were here and you're swinging around that big d**k energy signature like a hammer so who cares about a yell?"

She added, with a certain haughtiness after surveying the stranger's kit with an eye that lacked expertise but had the benefit of familiarity: "Is the whole 'greeting you with a lecture' thing just part of being an Earth Knight specifically? Because I'm noticing a trend."

Hm. The woman had a fiery temper. Hy could appreciate that. Still, she didn't want it to become the girl's demise either and if there was one thing the Knight didn't want to see was anymore dead order members. The new ones were always the most vulnerable too.

"Hm. So, you were expecting me to come running if you got into trouble and swing my 'big d**k energy' around? That's putting a lot of faith in someone you've never met." She raised a brow. "Not everyone is an expert in fighting or has magic lending towards it. I, for instance, have healing magic. What if I can't fight hand-to-hand?"

"And just because there's no signature doesn't mean anything in your case. Calling out like you did could have alerted an agent while they were powered down. One look at you and they may have decided to power up on the fly in an alleyway out of sight and come after you. They'd be on top of [i[you before you even had a chance to register what was happening since they'd have the upper hand."

She crossed her arms over her chest. "And yes. If you do something dumb you deserve a lecture. Your experience doesn't account to much as a page I am sorry to say. You're barely wet behind the ears."

Still, Hy realized she was laying it on a bit thick. With a sigh she dropped her arms to her side. "Hy-Brasil, by the way. Lucky for you I am capable of fighting beyond what my magic offers me. Something I had to learn to do when I got dragged into this war." Tipping her head to the side, red hair cascading over her shoulder she studied the page for a moment.

"So, how long have you been awakened for?"

"Just exactly long enough to know that I can't control who or what powers up around me whether I'm quiet or not," she retorted, apparently still irritated. "Which is, if I'm being honest, why I generally don't bother. Get lectured for not doing it, get lectured for doing it." She made an exasperated gesture of her hands.

"I got dragged in, as you so correctly put it, around New Year's. And all I've heard so far is either that I'm not doing enough or I'm doing too much. I'm starting to think that amassing your cosmic army by way of conscripting random civilians is maybe a great way to end up with an unmotivated fighting force where the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing, but what do I know?" She shook back her hair irritably. "I'm still wet behind the ears." She spoke with an arrogance that suggested that the next words out of her mouth would be that Order was lucky to have her, but in truth she didn't think that was the case, and kept the thought to herself. They probably, she thought, would have been luckier with just about anyone else, it's just that this wasn't her fault.

She did not, pointedly, offer her own name in return.

The spunk that this woman had caused Hy-Brasil to smile. She understood the frustration of being told this and that, but Hy knew it was all out of a place of worry and caring. No one wanted to see another person hurt when they could have offered up advice that could avoid casualties.

"Look. I get it. It's...annoying to hear everyone tell you things or lecture you, but I promise we do it out of worry for you. We don't want to see anyone getting hurt or worse. And, worse is definitely a possibility with the forces we are up against. You'll find some of the Negaverse won't stop to give you a moment before they're on top of you." She sighed, noting that the earth page hadn't shared her name, a clear sign that Hy had aggravated in a way that wasn't intentional.

"But, I apologize for coming at you like that. It wasn't fair for you.

"As for our army though, has anyone explained to you what it is you got dragged in and that you aren't necessarily a regular civilian? I don't mind giving you a quick run down. If you're interested."[

"I've been told," she said, somewhat grimly, albeit with a pause and a visible struggle that suggested she was attempting to muster up an ounce of graciousness and squash anything resembling ingratitude. "But it was by someone whose information is only about - oh, not much - a thousand years out of date. As far as I can tell, that hasn't changed it that much, except he got to go school or whatever and that's not an option open to me."

She hesitated, adding begrudgingly: "I've talked to a couple people who aren't ten centuries out of date, but even though I still don't think I was being reckless I don't intend to die by my own ignorance, either, and I'm aware I've got plenty of that. So I'm all ears. Wet behind them and all," she finished drily.

"Hm." She smiled with at tilt of her head. "There's a lot I could cover, but I don't want to overwhelm you with too much info. So, I'll start broad and you can ask any questions you have. Cause otherwise, we'll be here all night."

"Lifetimes ago there was the silver millennium. It was a prosperous time where civilizations across multiple planets, moons, and asteroids were governed by the moon. It was peaceful until the Negaverse rose up and attacked the moon kingdom.

Civilizations were wiped out, and thanks to the moon royalty, people were given the chance to be reborn on Earth. Thus here we are."

She paused. "Do you know about starseeds? Because those are what determine a senshi and some knights. I say some Knight, because there are those who are direct reincarnations and those who are lineage. I am not reincarnated which I learned from my ancestor at my homeworld."

it's OK!

She waved a hand somewhat impatiently. "Yeah, yeah, I got one of those too, and he may be a dour a*****e but he's at least informative. Sometimes too informative," she added grimly. "I'm caught up on the basics. I guess it's more - what's going on now? Like, today-now?" She made another impatient, meaningless gesture.

"It's just - just a stalemate, right? Just this stupid little city-wide skirmish that keeps happening for years on end and nothing ever goes anywhere. Right?" She threw out an arm, as if to encompass all of Destiny City in her statement. "I could just power down tomorrow and go about my business and run into secret Negaverse agents standing in line at the bank and it just - doesn't mean anything. Yeah?"

”Ah. Hm. Current affairs then.” Hy pondered this. She wasn’t one to get to stay up to date on everyone’s going on’s. The big stuff she tried to stay abreast of but some things she just remained oblivious to. “Well, by that I assume you mean the state of where we are in this war. We are in a stalemate of a sort. Now, I won’t lie to you and tell you you can’t power down and decide to continue on with life as you’ve always led it. That is absolutely an option to you and one I don’t think too many people would judge you for. I personally, think it would be difficult knowing that this war is raging on around me and I could possibly do something to help with it. But, everyone is different. There are many who have stepped away from it.”

“But, Personally, as we stand I would say the Negaverse has the upper hand on us. We, order I mean, are more reactive than active. Our group is not a well-oiled machine that functions together. Recently, there’s been talk amongst some of us to change things. Especially after a recent event. So I don’t sugar coat things, I and another squire decided to act. We captured a corrupt to gather info from him. By the time we were done we gathered others in for them to also gain info if they wished and to help us decide what to do with our captive. Consensus was to get rid of him. He was a threat to us, and if the negaverse hadn’t found out, he would have died that night. Now, some would say we failed. And while yes, we did in some ways I think it triggered a want for people to come together. If only a small group of us could do what we did, what would a larger group of us manage?” She smiled and sighed with a shrug.

“So I have hope that things may take a turn for us, or at least we will be less reactive and more pro-active.”

"Does any of that scare or bother you?" Hy was curious to see this page's temperament. To understand where the woman may fall on the spectrum of determination and commitment. Joy was new to this. Hy wouldn't blame her one bit for walking away.

"Well I'm not exactly ******** jumping for joy about it," she said, grimacing at the unintended pun. "Upper hand, reactive, whatever. It's always a stalemate, isn't it? Except that one time when it wasn't. But stalemate is the wrong analogy." She paused, frustrated. "This isn't chess. The board keeps ebbing back and forth between black and white. It's like Othello. No - that isn't it either - have you ever heard of ming mang?" she continued, a seemingly random question - it was extremely improbable that the stranger had heard of an obscure Tibetan board game, and so she waved her hand impatiently to dismiss the topic.

"It doesn't matter. I got conscripted," she said, laying an emphasis on the word and all its implications. "And right now God didn't even arm me, so I guess it doesn't matter much if I disappear. I'm - what? Cannon fodder? Meat for the grinder? Someone for the other side to kidnap, interrogate, and kill?" She shook her head. "No. Give me a weapon and I'll use it, but not for any stupid game that other people are playing. The best you're going to get from me is that I'm not going to - corrupt - " she hesitated, the word apparently still somewhat alien to her. "And it sounds like that's enough for you to be grateful for."
