Strange Gift

Tis the season for gift giving, a sense of celebration as the year comes to an end. You get all the gifts you expect, and give some out as well. However, a strange, unmarked gift has arrived. You have no idea who sent it, or what it might be. Is it something from an admirer, or possibly a bit more sinister?

[ Your character receives an unexpected gift. Feel free to answer this prompt exploring the thoughts around such thing, the suspicion or confusion, maybe even resolving it with finding out who the gift giver was. Maybe it's someone you know, but it's a surprise. Maybe it's a mistake. The only way to find out is to open the present. ]

Tathyryal 1

He awoke to see a wrapped gift outside his room. At first he thought maybe one of his brothers but when he opened it it was a book on Belrea's flora and fauna which could only come from one person, someone that had been there and would know he liked to read. He grinned, "Talria." He had left her a special gift too, a snaptrotter of the finest breeding to grow and keep her company and protect her from all that would harm her. Long snoot and big teeth coming in extra handy. He grinned happily. This was such a fun time of year and he was enjoying it even more with her around. He had a special friend that wasn't family for a change and she was just so special, he could look for a thousand years and not find anyone quite like her.

He scrambled out the door, eager to thank her and later eager to read his gift which he clutched to his chest like a precious thing. Which it was,, it was precious to him because it came from her most of all and secondarily for the knowledge it would impart, as he walked he flipped to the pages on Pai's species and read as he walked. Fascinating!

“I did! Im so glad its working out for you, he has a fine temperament with a sense of humor, my Uncle trained him special, he was pleased to hear he was going to a good home.” Tathy had his arms wrapped endearingly around the book. “Thank you, this is a great gift! I may have been walking and reading on the way over here.” He grinned unrepentant. “It makes for interesting reading.” One of his bee spirits floated over to greet them and Tathy held out a hand for it to land on. “Heh, you are supposed to be busy little one is it your coffee break?” He teased the spirit bug, they didnt often emerge if not called. “My swarm can tell I trust you, they would probably protect you too if you needed it. I’ll get a potted plant for outside your door, that draws them in.”


He patted the snoot of the large baby that would be a good companion for her. “Almost everyone gets a pet here eventually, its how we show affection too sometimes. You never need to be alone if you dont want to be. Isnt that right you good boy you.” He scratched under the critters chin.

Tathy 3
Tathy couldn't help but cheer. "Mini Pais! Challenge accepted." He chuckled happily. That would be a fun project. Tathy was amused at how befuddled poor Pai looked. He hid his smile respecfuly. "I'm sure I can find him one, I'll speak to grandfather and see if he couldn't send for one though one of his contacts. I'm sure he knows someone from Belrea.

He sighed, picturing mini Pai's all over the place. Maybe one day mini janarim. Such was life on the ranch, there was always mini something about to hatch. Mini snaptrotter, mini perzi, the list went on and on.

"Do you want...cookies? Granny Nin makes the best cookies...and tea. But I prefer cookies more and I know where the stash is." His eyes twinkled mischievously. He was always down for a good raid of the cookie jar. He and his brothers had made it an olympic event when they were little and they were nigh un unstoppable when they put their mind to something.

"I won't waste time then, I'll see if I can get my paws on a few females. So that he might have a selection." Tathy winked at Pai. Hopefully he wouldn't get snubbed for his betrayal. But really ladies were a good thing, Pai would see that one day."

"What about you? Do you find any of my crazy family handsome?" He asked. His family were all pretty good looking if you asked him. He wanted to know if she had a crush. He was her friend she might even tell him.

He certainly liked her himself and he thought she was strikingly beautiful with her fiery orange hair and purple eyes that always seemed to soften for him somehow. He wasn't looking too far into it though, of course he would like her. She was an awesome friend and he too wanted to learn to shoot a rifle. "I might take you up on those shooting lessons when you have the time, it sounds fun."

He chuckled at Pai’s antics. Perhaps he should buck up and ask Tally for a date then if he had some competition. If it wasn’t him though would she still say yes to the date? He supposed the worst she could say was no. Though she didn’t sound so sure about it… so maybe he had a chance? He knew she spent a bit of time with his Dad and Uncles learning about the ranch while Tathy tended the bees and honey making. But they were safe having been around when thr rocks formed and happily married or dating. His brothers were about and they were awfully handsome.

Well the worst she could say was no wasn’t it? He didn’t think he would loose her friendship if that were the case the two matters being separate. Well why not? It was what he wanted to do and he might not get a good opportunity to do it so why not now? Sometimes it was quite obvious that he represented ‘thought’ among his brothers. Ever since she had entered his life he hadn’t gotten one panic attack.

“Well I won’t stand in the way if you have a crush but let me ask you one thing first, would you got on one date with me and give me a chance?”

He felt such joy and hope fill his heart. She was giving him a chance! Maybe he could win her heart over whoever her crush was...it was probably one of his brothers..those rascals well he wouldn't give up without a fight. She was sweet kind, skilled in her trade and had gotten along with him from the start they had similar interests and values. And well he liked her..and felt for her.. He wanted to see where those feelings went over time.

"I will come up with something fun. You have made me very happy allow me to reciprocate." He bowed formally looking up with a sparkle in his eye. He would make this a date to remember...he had already started planning it in his head, he would have to get that special recipe from grandma Nin, and harvest some of the honey that his bees were working on..and maybe raid the garden. He grinned. Oh yes they would not go hungry on this date.

"Feel free to bring Pai and the Snapper." They would be good accompaniment.

Tathyryal 7

His own eyes twinkled as she picked the very thing he wanted to do. "So long as you come and read it with me, It looks like Pai is interested in reading as well." He giggled at the small fuzzy creature who seemed to be buttering him up now instead of the other way around as this had originally started out.

"I wonder how much new information is in here." He craddled the book to his chest as if he had to defend it from others. It was now besides his familiars his most prized posession. "Its so well made, even looking at the cover brings me such joy." He was a definite bibliophile and sometimes he read to his swarm as well. The spirits and the bees seemed to enjoy it just as much as he did.

"Come Pai, mysteries await us. You know I think I might keep the female of his species, they are such darling little creatures and so versatile, he could come with you anywhere."
