Solo 1
Alias was highly curious about the vast world around him. His tended to split their time between Matori and Jauhar, making the long trek twice a year. Travel was always exciting. He noticed that his brother was always hesitant to leave Matori, but had no such issues leaving the jungle.

Personally he was happy wherever his big brother was. If there was a medal for best big brother, Thoraka would definitely get it. He was supportive and sensitive. No one dared mess with him, as all it took to scare them off was one look at Thoraka’s face.

Today his mother and brother were out on some sort of errand. Dad was busy processing the fish he had caught, and for once, he was left to his own devices. He was somewhat at a loss as to where to start. He walked into his room and looked around. It was neat and tidy with a few books on the shelf, but these he had always already read many times. Besides, he had a bit too much energy to be couped up inside.

But first he needed a snack! His parents had assured him that his apetite would slow down a bit once he was grown up. He seriously doubted this, as Thoraka ate enough for two people.

Still, he wanted to be tall like his brother and as adventurous For now, though he was not allowed to go too far from home, he was told this would change too. His elder brother had much more freedom and would wander out early to return, tired and looking very happy at the end of the day, his skin tanned a shade or too darker.

Elias sighed, scraped together some cheese and crackers, and then ambled outside. He looked left and right, searching for anything that looked interesting. The sea was sporting white caps in the brisk wind that plagued Matori At this time of year. He did not feel like helping his father gut fishies, and it was a bit rough to swim unless there was an adult at the beach with him. Ugh. He hated boredom with a passion. Usually, his family kept him from that condition, but everyone was preoccupied with their own tasks. He walked toward the beach, perhaps the tide had thrown up something fun. The sand felt soft and wet against his feet as he walked. It was utterly soothing, and he felt all the angst and anxiety leave his heart banished by the sea and wind, the feeling of home, of safety, that there was a great being out there that loved him. He couldn't put a finger exactly on the source of that feeling, but it had an intriguing grip on his soul. All would be well, so long as waves still kissed the shore, he belonged here, and no matter how far away he was, the mutual love would be eternal. It was his strength, his destiny. No matter how far his feet went, he would always be able to find his way back if he wanted, not that he was allowed to wander very far as of yet.

Soon enough, he would be old enough to adventure and put miles under his belt. Matori was beautiful, and there must be so much more of it to see. At night time, he often poured over his father's maps and wondered what all of these places looked like and how many people they held. The world was full of wonders, and he was eager to discover them all for himself one day and then he would explore the jungle. He wanted to meet more Aishans like his mother, according to her, there were more Aishans out there, though, of course, they carried different names and bloomed different people. He found this extremely fascinating, that and the fact that dad had not been bloomed from a flower, they would not explain how dad had been brought into the world, and that made him suspicious that perhaps a great fish had swum near the shore and puked his dad up. It seemed as likely as any other story, even his brother would not elaborate on this particular issue, and he was usually so much more helpful. Sometimes Elias would ask him for clarification on stuff that he had not quite understood during the day. It helped him learn a lot quicker.

The sky was overcast, not that unusual for Matori, especially with the rest of the weather behaving as it did today, he was very fortunate. A pod of his favorite black and white whales were passing through. His dad told him stories about them all the time, sometimes real, sometimes make believe. They often rode the wake behind fast moving ships and were some of the best hunters out there.

His mother said that they had one pectoral fin in the real world and the other in dreamland. They often visit his visited his dreams, along with snaptrotters and those fancy deep sea eagles, he paused and watched them coast over the horizon. They were so cool, and it had totally made his day, even if he found nothing on the shore tossed up by the ocean. It was good picking actually, because of the storm, he found the biggest conch shell he had ever seen, and he couldn't wait for the weather to clear so he could swim with the colorful reef fish that patrolled these waters, eking out a living by the drop off that he was not yet allowed to pass. He adored the ocean, and it seemed to adore him back it always spat up the most interesting things, a tiny sidewalker in its hard shell, like a crunchy spider with no sense of direction, calls of gulls chatting and bragging back and forth. He found sea grass to perfume the house, a dead octopus to poke at, small shells of all shapes and sizes and witch rocks with holes in them. He collected everything he could carry and brought it home and gave it a number and described it carefully in his nature journal. It had been a gift from Thallassa, one of his many friends at the beast ranch. He viewed the lot as good people and close friends, especially because of the bond his Father shared with their blacksmith lady. He hoped he would see them all soon. It was fun at the beast ranch. There was always something exciting going on. He wondered when they slept for now, though it was just him still a bit of a novelty. But so were great crowds of people. It was odd to him that they got fewer odd looks in Matori than they did in Jauhar.

Solo 2
The dawn after a particularly violent storm. revealed by pale light. the remains of a grand merchant vessel, thick beams cracked apart like so much lobster fest. The sheer power of the ocean always stunned him. It was just as much a god to him as Aisha and those that his father believed in.

Excitedly, he skipped down to the water. If there were survivors, he could help them, and if not, the booty he was found was his by maritime law. He skirted around the bulk of the ship and poked around in the sand before booting it down the beach. The wreck splayed out before him, and behind a large piece of detritus, he found a huge snaptrotter with a thick leather collar.

The beast, which he promptly named The Black cracked open great yellow eyes at the youngling. The young bull was exceptionally sensitive and of the highest breeding. He and an unrelated female had been sold off to a young Oban noble who was going to use them as foundation stock for their project. But there had been some sort of collision deep in the night, and low and behold, he had ended up here staring at an inquisitive youngling that was busily rubbing a strong smelling salve on his foreleg. He could tell that the boy meant him no harm. He swung his head to look for the female. He felt responsible for her. They were fated to be together. He had heard his old owners mention it. He arched his back and rumbled out a deep call to her. It was best performed in water, but he was too exhausted to move and he needed to know if she was okay.

He glanced back at the youngling and made amused hissy noises as the little one's fur patch was all standing on end. He rubbed his lower jaw over the boy's head in what was a comforting gesture among his kind. Then he grunted and called again.
A splash sounded nearby, and he hoped it was the female. He moaned with relief when the female steamed into shore with a fat salmon in her mouth. Naytara, the female came ashore in all her startling blue and green glory, she deposited the fish down the male's gullet. He seemed to meet her criteria for a mate, and had been very supportive and helpful during the sinking of the ship, lifting a beam off her and helping her fight the pull of gravity and displaced water, which was why he was so tired now.

Now she looked interestedly at the boy and his stinky salve. Was he their new master? She sniffed at him, blinked and bobbed her head a little. She agreed with her bull. He would be a fine master. She poked at him playfully with her snout.

Elias grinned, tears in his eyes. He would build them a nice stable with a big stall for two. It was his lucky day. She too carried a thick lather collar, but they were unbranded, which meant the claiming all the easier. Dad could contact the seller and tell them of the ship and the claim, that way they could send replacements to wherever these two were going. That way, everyone was happy and on the same page.

Meanwhile, he had struck better than gold. Naytara was graceful, slim and elegant. The Black was well muscled and startlingly intelligent for his kind, both were gentle and easy to handle. If he didn't know better, he would think these were beasts good enough to come from the ranch people. The freighter would pay the bill in this case. He smiled and padded broad crocodilliforms noses, he was lucky. He wondered what his parents would think. As for his brother, he knew he liked snaptrotters. He would gift him a hatchling. The thought made him very happy.

They waited until the Bull had enough energy, and then he guided them home. They ambled home across beaches. He knew it better than the back of his hand. He was excited. He could go further out to sea than he could alone, well when he was old enough for his parents to let him go. By then he should have a good bond with his critters. His parents would be very surprised. He hoped Thoraka was home, he spent a lot of time with Ustasis. Elias was happy that his brother had at least one good friend.

Solo 3
Alias watched avidly as the line of ants marched before him to move the eggs he had exposed by lifting the rock which served as the roof of their home. He found bugs fascinating and he could watch them for hours, imagining a life on a smaller scale, in a subterranean world, which would be more appealing if he didn’t love the sunlight so much. But he supposed delicate ant eggs wouldn’t appreciate the sun’s fierce radiation, it would probably dry out the egg cases. Would this stop him form moving more rocks? Probably not. Thoraka was away so Alias was making his own entertainment much to the amusement of his parents which were lurking somewhere nearby. They were always nearby it was pretty comforting he wasn’t going to lie.

They were the bedrock on which the platform of his life stood. And he knew it too. Which was unusual for someone as young as he. But he had always been sensitive to certain things and love was definitely one of them. He took a deep breath and once the ants had move all of their little rice shaped eggies he put the rock back, very gently. He stood and dusted off his hands. Well that had been somewhat entertaining, what was he to do now. What was the meaning of this moment in his life? Boredom? Perish the thought. He scampered this way and that seeking something..interesting. There was so much out there and he was longing to discover it all but like the ant eggs, some of it took some.. investigating to find. If he hadn’t lifted the rock he wouldn’t have known of the microcosm that it hid. Thus there should be more things at small scales that would interest him in his immediate surroundings. He began looking close to the ground.

In his wanderings he happened upon some moss and to humor his theory he got really far down, close to it. He looked at it in detail. There were..stalks coming out of the moss with a little head on them and for the life of them he couldn’t figure out why. He resolved to ask his Mother about it later. All plants being related however distantly to Aisha were of interest to him but if he were being honest with himself it was the ocean that held sway over him just as it did his Father Kellye. He loved Aisha from a distance but due to his nature and the opinion of the tree tenders his kind was not allowed near her. This bothered big brother Thoraka a heck of a lot more than it bugged him. He could vaguely see why it bugged his brother but if the sisters who tended Aisha thought them a threat however wrongly he tried to see it from their point of view, as hard as it was.

He like them was born of Aisha but he had something different. As his Mother said he and his brother were extra special so maybe the question shouldn’t be why they were not accepted by the alkidikes who tended Aisha as much as why they bothered with the opinions of others to begin with, maybe the pure blood tree tenders were below him and his brother as something new. Maybe the sisters just needed more time to understand that the gift of life from Aisha was just that, a gift. He knew that his parents’ had had to got to Aisha together as far as they would let Kellye get and that his and Thoraka’s presence meant that Aisha bid their father worthy of being mixed with Aishan blood based on the love of his Mother for him.

If there was one thing in this world that he did not question, (and he questioned a lot), it was the pure love of his mother, whether that be for them, Kellye or the experience of life in general. Zuella exemplified the ideal of love and light. She was always (or nearly always, everyone is allowed to have at least one bad day a month), bubbly and happy and supportive, absolutely the bestest mother that he could ever want. She even babied his somewhat surly older brother, though it could be said that Thoraka was slowly improving. He was a teenager after all and apparently the prentice stage could be a bit of a step. He had no idea what was coming for him later. Sometimes his big brother just did..odd things or had odd mood swings. Alias couldn’t quite track the erratic progress of his big brother’s emotional doings but his Fater and Mother assured him that someday soonish he might understand more than he thought for now he was preserved in the bliss of childhood, where all the cares at least the big ones that mattered where carried by the adults leaving the children to frolic in the forest floor or the beach depending on which home they were currently at. For now they were still in Jauhar, which meant a lot of bugs, rain and humidity.

Jake, his radaku, snarled from the bushes not far away. Yet another fact of life, carnivory. Well he supposed that Jake might not need all of the kibble assigned to him if he was getting protein elsewhere. Deep down Alias knew that these sorts of things were common place but he own protein was presented to him dead and on a plate. He did suppose that something as big as Jake would need something more substantial than ant eggs.

Not only were his parents nearby but his radaku best buddy was too. He hoped that everyone felt this safe on a day to day basis. He knew that there were kids out there less fortunate than he but this was his reality. And existing in ones own reality was a good thing. He could only see throught the lens that was forged from him but both of his parents said that the key to everything was having and open mind. He supposed they should know having gone a less traditional route for love for the both of them really. Though he was quite grateful for being born of a flower, they both got a distant pained look on their faces when he mentioned questions on how pure earthlings had kids. He was informed stoically that he would be told when he was older. He of course would have to remember to ask. He had a pretty good memory. He liked to study living things of all shapes and sizes thought he had to admit at this age that animals were a bit more interesting than plants, though as a child of Aisha even he hated to admit it.

Plants didn’t seem to move, where animals did and based on that alone they were more interesting based on the various interactions they could have, his hunting, munching radaku being case in point. His whole point being that he had so much out there to observe and that meant perhaps travel was in his future. It was a bloody long walkies from Jauhar to Matori no mater which way you held the map and well there was a lot of interesting things in between to appreciate.

The local beast taming family that his father was so intricately woven into were a big fan of journals. Maybe it was time to start recoding some of the natural things that he saw, what if there was new things that no one else had observed that he could help with. Maybe there would be questions that only he could answer with a lucky observation or two. What mysteries did the world hold? What could he himself discover? There was only so much that the books that his parents brought back would teach him. Stuff perhaps that even the books did not know about like why some things tended to glow in the night and other things not so much. Like why certain animals did what they did on a regular basis and mayhap what they did rarely..there was just so much out there to learn about. His Mama said that if he looked every moon for a thousand years he would not discover everything that the world had to offer which albeit only served to make him want to try. Secrets! The world had secrets and it needed a detective. Someone like him that was patient and thorough. Perhaps he would be this person for those who cared not for the outdoors. Maybe one day younglings would be reading about his exploits and adventures instead of watching ants..or more importantly they might start to watch ants because of it. He shrugged, either way it would be a good thing. Yes, he would write books on nature one day, that would be his dream. Which meant he would need paper and pen always. He would ask his parents about procuring some from the next nearest market to them. Brilliance such as this should be worked on right away. Not put off until tomorrow.
