It wasn’t a long trip to the ally, and once they were out of sight she powered down and re-emerged as her civilian self. Today she was wearing a lacey sundress, with some bracelets and sandals to match. From her subspace she pulled out her handbag, which she slung over her shoulder after taking out a scrunchie so she could tie up hair.
“Much better,” she said once all was said and done, finding this a better summer outfit than her knight uniform. Looking far more refreshed, she looked to her new friend with a brighter expression than when they’d first met.
“So how much further to the store?” she asked first, then seemed to catch herself. With an amused little smile, she added, "Ah, I guess before that. I'm Mel!"

Alice powered down in the alleyway. She was wearing a care bear themed outfit; that had a grumpy bear crop top a pair of powder blue bell bottoms, care bear platform boots and a care bear x hello kitty backpack. She had on a few rainbow bangles that looked like they belonged in the 80s and a pair of star earings.
Alice ran a hand through her bangs sorting them back out and smiled, "I'm Alice, nice to meet you Mel!"
There was a bright smile as she pointed, "It's on the corner down there, I figured this is usually the least busy place so it's easier to power down here."
There was a pause, "Oh by the way I like your sundress it's very cute!" Then she headed towards the store, "Depending on what we find, I may use one of my corsets too. I do enjoy a good reason to wear a corset that stands out more than normal."
The store front had different curios in the window. Including stones, rocks, some fanciful walking sticks a few books on astrology and astronomy, butterfly wing cloaks and some tarot cards. "I found this place by accident."
The sign read The Nocturnal Owl Oddities and Curiosities.

”Ditto,” she returned with a matching cheerfulness, “to meeting you, and your cute outfit, too!”
Mel turned her eyes to the corner that Alice pointed out, and then walked alongside her new friend as they headed toward it. Going back to their discussion on her theme for the costume she was making for the meteor shower party, she listened carefully to what more she had to say about it and bobbled her head lightly along.
“Oooh, a corset? That sounds like it could be pretty cute!” Her icy blue eyes sparkled with curiosity as she imagined the various different looks she could pull off with a corset. Luckily they came up on the storefront soon enough, so she didn’t get too lost in her own thoughts for very long.
The vibe reminded her of the antiquing store her co-worker brought her to one time last year, where she found that curious glass of liquid something. Thinking about it some more, that was sort of the start of all of this knight business for her. Unofficially, anyway. It softened her expression some, getting hit with a bit of nostalgia for her old life, and once they got to the door she held it open for Alice and followed along inside.
“Do you think they’d have different sets of fairy wings you can choose from, or do you already have something else that you’re gonna use for that?”

Alice grinned, "Thanks!"
Alice nodded, "I have a few maybe the rainbow brite themed one?" She seemed to be thinking, "Depends on what they have is what I'll use probably."
Alice was looking at the window display thinking as she was looking at the things that were there. "They might! I have some but that doesn't mean I won't buy new if there's a set that strikes me."
She chuckled as she headed towards a small display of jewelries, "A lot of their stuff is merchant made. They've got some soaps and things too for like relaxing." Alice had stopped at a row of earrings that had some different colors, oil slick and rainbow seemed to be big theme on the wall, "Ohh, these are all pretty. I see a few different star shapes, which do you think I should get, oil slick or rainbow colors?"

Mel stayed close to Alice as they started going through the store, curious about basically everything on display but wanting to be nearby in case Alice wanted her opinion on something she found. There were a few things that caught her eye that she mentally earmarked to go back to once Alice found what she wanted, or maybe on a later visit to the shop.
“Nice candle selection, too,” she said, though mostly to herself. She had to replace the one she just finished at home, so maybe…
She paused mid-thought when Alice stopped at a row of earrings. Mel’s eyes widened just so, a glimmer of interest in them as she leaned in to take a closer look at the selection. “Mm…oil slick. Definitely oil slick.” Her tone suggested that she was mentally still waffling between the two, and was trying to convince herself that she didn’t want to buy them both so she had to pick one.
“They’re both pretty, though,” she eventually added with a chuckle, “so I don’t think you’d go wrong with either one. Maybe oil slick if you’re going for a darker theme, and rainbow if lighter?”

Alice grinned, "Isn't it great? They have candles for all occasions too. Some of them have little stories or like what the scents are and what they're meant to help with. Like melting stress away, calming, and some just simple smells like sugar cookies!"
She chuckled as she was looking through the earrings and pondered, "Both then, I believe." She said looking at the price, deciding it wasn't bad.
"I have some stuff for both themes. So it'll get use at some point." She hummed as she picked up a small basket near by. "What else should we look at?" Alice was looking around the store at the other little sections, it was a fairly boho feeling store with a section of pillows and sticks for incenses as well as holders."
Alice paused looking at some of the ornate lamps that held incense. "One of these could be a neat touch on a stick maybe?"

Mel couldn’t help but giggle quietly to herself when Alice went for both. “Both, definitely,” she said, though she stopped herself from grabbing both, as well. Alice needed them for her costumes; she didn’t wear costumes, and she definitely didn’t need any new pairs of earrings, so she took one last look at them before passing them by and following Alice.
She planned to buy at least one candle, though.
“Maybe?” Mel said as she looked at the item in question. “As a sort of wand with a smoke effect kinda thing?” This wasn’t her forte so she was trying to imagine it. Hopefully she wasn’t just making things harder for Alice.

Alice grinned, "Yeah like a wand." She said nodding as she was looking at the lantern shapes, "Which should I go with, moon, star or just normal lantern?"
She looked curiously at the shapes as she looked at Mel, "Is there anything that's caught your eye by the way?" The blonde looked at her new friend, "Just because we came for me doesn't mean we can't look at things you want to look at too!"
She hummed softly, "Besides I'd like to get you a thank you gift for coming with me!"

”Star gets my vote,” Mel answered after a long moment, nodding as if to signify that she’d made up her mind.
At the question, she nodded her head before gesturing toward the candles. “I was thinking I’d grab a candle or two,” because honestly she couldn’t picture walking out with only one, “maybe three. I love a good candle, and they have some interesting options!” Truth be told, if she was to be let loose into this store on a bad day she’d probably walk out with a lot more stuff. Retail therapy was a very real thing, though she wasn’t necessarily addicted to nor dependent on it. It was more the occasional coping mechanism, when the usual ones just weren’t enough.
The idea of being given a present, though, had her cheeks turn a faint pink and she waved her hand as if to dismiss the idea. “Oh, you don’t have to do that!" she said with a little smile, more than grateful for the thought alone. "I’m happy to come. Honestly, I just hope I’m being helpful as opposed to a distraction or anything else.”

Alice grinned when Mel answered about the fact star gets her vote. Alice snagged one of the star lanterns as she hummed. "Perfect!"
There was a chuckle as Mel was talking about how many candles she would take home with her, "Well, we got what I wanted, lets look at the candles and pick out something for you?"
She smiled, "You're absolutely a help!" There was a wink, "Plus, shopping with a friend is always more fun!"

The affirmation that she was both helpful, as well as now considered a friend, was met with as cheery a smile as ever. ”I like that plan,” Mel replied with a grin, and she led the way over to the candles.
All said and done, the night felt like a success. She made a new powered friend, they picked out some accessories for a neat sounding party, and she was gonna walk out of here with a few candles!
Not to mention, the star pox had also gone. But Mel had already completely forgotten about that in favor of having a bit of fun with her new friend.
