Branching RP

Quote:
Prompt 1: The group has split up; while a large number of people remain in the storage wing, you have decided to help clear out some of the smaller rooms. Things are packed more securely here, and while there are some oddities on display, for the most part everything is secured in an array of wooden, stone, or metal boxes of varying security. You may see a strange item here or there, or something that catches your eye. There is an undeniably weird hum of energy in the room but Almadel has trusted you to behave.

While you must stay in the area, you can investigate anything. You can PM The Space Cauldron or DM xigglet on Discord if you want to check anything before posting; you can also ask if you can interact with anything or gain extra information about something your character is involved in. It is possible to find an artifact or relic that is some way important or relevant to your character but you must have permission. If you are interested in finding something, please be prepared to give a physical description and any relevant lore; we can work things out with you.

As you investigate, you hear a strange noise. Roll a 1d4 to locate it.
If you roll 1 it is coming from an air vent
If you roll a 2 it is coming from a storage box
If you roll a 3 it is coming from the wall
If you roll a 4 it is coming from under the floor

You can decide how to get to them; you may be fortunate and find a loose tile but you may have to break something to reach them (at player choice). Just remember that Almadel wants his museum in the best condition possible…

Quote:
Prompt 2: You have located the sound–Kosopods, ranging from six inches to two feet wide. They are hard shelled isopods with many legs and prickly tails. They can be nearly any neutral color, it just depends on what they have been eating. They will immediately try to scatter. Roll 1d4 to determine how many Kosopods you have located; you can decide their size.

Quote:
Prompt 3: The Kosopods immediately attack. They are frantic and hungry; they can spit acid that causes agitation and eventually burns through things and they have many sharp legs and sharp points on their shells. They can bite. Their shells are very hard and they can only be damaged by flipping them over to expose their delicate underbelly or possibly by overwhelming them with magic. They cannot be starseeded. They are vulnerable to fire but it might not be a good idea to start setting things ablaze if you want to stay on Almadel’s good side. Roll 1d4 to determine how many Kosopods you have defeated; if you roll lower than the last prompt, you will need to roll again until you defeat them all or hope that your allies rolled high enough to take out some of yours as well. If you roll a higher number here than you did in prompt 2, you can help your allies.

Quote:
Prompt 4: Once the Kosopods have been defeated, you can take a moment to breathe. It sounds like things have calmed down outside in the large room that you arrived in. You can look around the area if you like (and if you sent anything in to find or examine, you can identify it now. It may be possible to steal small items from Almadel if you have sent in for approval). This post can be considered an exit or you can continue roleplaying until you are ready to leave. You can rejoin the closing post of the ORP when it is announced! This should be on Friday the 30th. While you do not need to have this RP finished at the time of the close, please try to close this RP promptly! You must write 500 words in this RP to be eligible for the prize!

Remarque hadn’t known that they were going to be taking a trip into space but if he had he’d have prepared Laon and Arawn more before heading to the hill. It had already been a fluke that they decided to go out together tonight, but things seemed to be working out in their favor.

He wouldn’t complain.

Laon hadn’t liked being surrounded by so many people but Remarque was sure that he was sticking close to Arawn less for his own comfort and more to make sure that Arawn didn’t get spooked and start lashing out.

The museum was stunning, really. Remarque had a great appreciation for antiques–not just because they brought in a lot of money–but there was something even more special about these relics from well-beyond Earth.

He’d wanted to stay and investigate, but with the other two Dark Mirror Senshi with him, he decided it was best to take the first exit possible.

There were plenty of side rooms to investigate. And, he’d picked a good one.

It was big enough to give plenty of breathing room and yet there was still a surplus of boxes around the room.

Let Almadel be worried about his bugs and the tension between all those Order folks and the Negaverse. They could take their time here.

“Let’s take our time,” he mused. There were a few boxes that looked like they’d already been damaged. Some were toppled over, some looked like something had been digging around in them already. He didn’t care if it was a Kosopod or an accident. It was free game right now.

“I doubt we’ll have the opportunity to visit very often. We don’t get a chance to get into space that much. Don’t touch anything that looks dangerous. But,” he shrugged, and crouched by one of the already open boxes. “It would be a shame not to make sure we didn’t make sure there weren’t any of those bugs hiding around here.”

He picked up a strange looking statuette that was resting atop of the rest of the contents in the box. It had dark gems in its eye sockets but it didn’t look like any Earth creature he could immediately name. He moved the statue to the left, to the right. The dim light always seemed to catch in its eyes. He shrugged and sent it to his subspace pocket before he poked around in the box for more.

“Are you sure?” Laon asked, as Remarque had expected.

“Mmhmm,” Remarque answered. It wasn’t that he wasn’t looking for Kosopods. It was just that he was looking at everything else first.

“Oh. Okay.” Laon didn’t want to mess up; he didn’t want to pilfer some strange alien’s storage locker, but if Remarque said it was okay…

Well, he believed him. And Remarque had already done so much for them. Maybe he was looking for something in particular. He’d talked about space before, maybe this meant a lot to him. Remarque kept a lot of secrets–not that Laon minded–so he never knew exactly what was going on.

He knew enough to want to help, though.

Laon stayed close to Arawn. He laced fingers with him and tugged him towards another box. This one had many strange trinkets and charms passed up. Some were obviously hand carved from stone, or–was that bone?–and shells, and some had fancy writing or gemstones, or engravings. They looked like–what, old cell phone charms? Keychains? He couldn’t quite place it, and giving them such common names seemed to be a disservice.

Remarque had been teaching them about antiques and identifying dupes. He didn’t think that he could use the same Earth logic here but they had a sort of weight, a sort of craftsmanship that he couldn’t help but be interested in.
