Urania had not expected to be reminded of her world in a place like this.

What she had expected to find was her first look at this world’s winter. She knew what it was supposed to be like. Cold, like some places on her world. Snow, unlike anywhere on her world.

But she hadn’t expected the snow to be… rainbow?

She was certain that this was unlike anything she had read about winter on Earth. She had prepared for this! She’d read everything she could! She’d asked Yuri! She’d even asked some too probing questions to the poor customers of the cat cafe… and gotten some strange looks.

She knew — not from experience, as this was her first Earth winter — what winter was supposed to look like.

And it wasn’t this.

This was… this was like her world.

Urania stood on the rooftop above her apartment and the cafe and just stared upward. Each falling snow drop reflected the moonlight. Each was a prism. Each its own, miniature rainbow.

“It’s so much like the crystals back home.”

Squatting on the edge of the roof like an emaciated gargoyle, Grieve looked down at all the humans scurrying about, their figures emanating stress and joy over their winter holiday. She was getting ready to spit down on one wearing a light-up sweater of some sort that was ******** amazing when Stargazer reminded her that the sky and snow were also pretty.

Catching some snowflakes in the palm of her hand, Grieve eyed them for a moment before licking her palm. Didn't taste like anything.

"Have you gone back yet?"

Urania watched as Greive sat on her perch above the people on the streets. She wondered what they were doing. Everyone seemed to be in a weird mood this time of year. Stress. Joy. In Yuri’s case, depression.

She certainly hadn’t been prepared for that part of the season.

Was it normal that everyone’s feelings were so messed up at this time of year?

Even her own had been hard to understand recently.

“No. I haven’t.” Urania said, looking down at the people below, like she was trying to avoid the question. “Have you?”

While the other looked back down, Grieve's gaze remained up, going past snow and cloud and time. Her own world had always been a grave of sorts, and so she mourned the loss of Urania and the other worlds more than her own. Still, it was better that Urania had survivor like herself, a living remainder of the culture and traditions that it once held. The ones who died, even if they're reborn, they're born on Earth and its patchwork civilization. All that's left of what was it the memory of a fragment.

Grieve is not one to dwell too much on the big picture, its scale and the power needed to alter it making such thoughts pointless. An ********' depressing.

"Yeh," she grunted, rolling her neck. "Took one of those broken little Chaos senshi up there. Few other times too. Great way to hide a body." And Earth certainly required that bodies be hid.

With a horrid grin, she finally glanced back down. "The Abyssal Eve...that was our winter holiday." It wasn't a particularly kind night, truth be told. "Did you have one, Meceyah?" Earth's English didn't have quite the word for the old endearment, the guiding star of a constellation, trusted and sought first.

“Oh.”

For some reason, she was surprised that the other senshi had returned multiple times now. After all, she had not returned at all.

And why had that been? She guessed it had something to do with how she woke up. She’d been in stasis for who knows how long. She’d estimated that it was around a thousand years, give or take. And who knew how long she’d be there still if that comet had not caused the crystal to crack? She would never know what her mother had meant to do by using her father’s magic on her and she would never get to ask. Her mother was dead.

And so was the rest of her world.

That was why Urania had not returned. Nothing was like it was before. Not like she remembered. For her, it had been like yesterday. But now the castle was no more, the forests were covered in mist and various pieces of the world itself were shattered and floating in space. Even the Observatory was closed to her now.

“There was a winter holiday on Urania. The Longest Night, we called it.” This made her look up again. “It was on the same night as the solstice on Earth. We’d all stay up for twenty-four hours. Each tribe would burn bonfires in the shape of constellations to symbolically keep the stars shining. Not actually, of course.”

"Well, they're still shining. So good job, even if not really," Grieve grinned over at the other senshi. There were always places and customs like that. People trying their damnedest to pretend they exerted the least bit of control over the fate of worlds. But ******** if even senshi had that power in the end. From the greenest Basic right up to the most feathery royal with their stables of knights: everyone failed their world or their world failed them. Most of them died. The fire on Urania weren’t lit, but the stars still abided. The stones of ******** WhateverWonder of WhoCaresAnymore aren’t polished, but planets and moons kept their rotations. The fire she lit on Hestia probably went out a thousand years ago, but here Grieve of Grieve still walks and burns with more life than she had any right to.

The thought put in her an even more cheerful mood.

"If y'want, we can go on a bender and light a bunch of ********' fires round the city. Be like old times for both of us." Might even resemble some kind of constellation by the time they were done. There were enough of them to get it right by pure drunken accident. Just the way Grieve liked to end her holidays: still alive and doing just fine by undeserved luck and a refusal to properly just die already.

Urania pondered the fact that the constellations were, in fact, still shining. Sure, it wasn’t because of the ritual. But was that really the point, anyway? Wasn’t the whole thing to celebrate that everything was, in fact, still around and still would be for years to come? That people like her and Greive would still be looking up at those same stars a thousand years later?

“Really?” Urania’s eyes suddenly became very, very starry at Grieve’s suggestion. “I’d love to! People have even been putting out these trees with lights on them that would be perfect to make bonfire with.”

Watching her friend turn on the sparkly eyes, Grieve cackled, "Yeah. Can't let the constellations keep shining up all by themselves, right? Gotta let them know we're still here."

“Let’s go light some fires!”

Urania cheered and her wisp circled her head as if cheering too.
