Transcended Earth Knight Hy-Brasil

Hy had escorted the group up to the castle. The building was still in disrepair, and obviously still required work, but some areas had been restored. One of such areas was what Hy-Brasil referred to as the Great Hall. It wasn’t massive by any means, but was the largest room available on the bottom floor. The walls were of stone, like the rest of the building, but some rustic wooden benches and tables had been put together and were spread within the room. There were also some floor cushions (2 to be precise because why would she think that there would ever be more than herself and another person on her Wonder at once) that could be used as intended and shield asses from the hard stone floor, but also could help with the uncomfortable wooden benches.

The walls were unadorned except for a few ratty tapestries that hung by threads that should have given out centuries ago. Hy intended to replace them with…something, but that had been thrown to the back burner long ago. Hard to want to do much decorating when one’s own mind was in a constant war.

Hy-Brasil had staked out a spot at one of the tables and benches. She opted to let the others use the cushions. Her staff leaned against the table beside her as she sat, fingers interlaced beneath her chin, supporting her head which now thrummed with a dull pounding headache. She looked over the others.

No one looked to be in ‘good shape’. The Sidhe had managed to wreck some awful damage.

“Is everyone alright?” The question was meant more to the physical side of things. If people needed healing she could provide that. It was doubtful anyone was mentally ‘alright’. She certainly wasn’t. But for Hy, in comparison to what she had been going though, this all felt like a great improvement. There was light at the end of the tunnel.

Squire Halle of Lysithea

The walk up to the castle had been long for Halle's aching limbs, but in the aftermath of the fight, oddly rapid. Like his mind had blanked out until it stumbled against the suddenly still back that was his body. Jarring. He let himself look around at the others before entering and then quickly turned his eyes to the castle. He'd seen that look in the eyes of older folks around Bailey, when they'd tell old stories that took enough of a dark turn to the point they couldn't tell them any further.

So Halle looked at the castle, with its Great Hall and its tattered tapestries, comparing them to what he'd seen in his own Wonder's lodge, and tried not to think about what it might mean to have magical PTSD.

Settling in at the table near Knight Hy-Brasil, he offered, "I'm fine. Just...does this sort of thing happen often? At Wonders?"

“I wish I could answer that question with ‘no’.”

Erytheia answered the young squire as he walked in, partly leaning against his bow as a staff. He looked tired, but not injured. His eyes world-weary, but his body intact.

The knight of Cosmos couldn’t bring himself to answer Hy-Brasil’s question. He wished the answer was ‘yes’. But the Sidhe had told him things and he wasn’t sure they weren’t true. There were no shadows in his peripheral vision now, nor echoes of bad memories.

The questions lived in his head now.

Knight Nectaris

Here, in the castle, Nectaris really got a good look at the Squire. Mostly, she was thinking about how young he looked compared to the rest of them. It was a weird thing to think considering the way that the memory loss had hit her, and she'd still felt like she was fourteen half the time until a couple of months ago, when it finally started to feel like she was maybe catching up with herself. It was a weird thought, but it was obvious, too. He was just a kid. He made her think of her little bio brother.

He was a kid, and he'd just seen all that. He was gonna see more awful stuff, too.

"Not just wonders," said Nectaris, 'cause all of the extreme feelings were making her usual brutal honesty worse and not better. "It happens in the city a lot, too. Pretty much everywhere."

She was wet, and shaking, but not from the cold. She stared into the distance, eyes still empty. It felt like her thoughts were her own again, but she was very, very far from okay. She hadn't strayed far from the woman who had kept her from throwing herself into the water.

"But, there's nice stuff, too," she said, even if her heart wasn't in it, because she didn't want anyone else to think that life was suffering or whatever. "There's fairies at Chrismas, sometimes."

The words felt hollow.

Celadon, Page of Cybele

"I'm alive," Celadon said softly. "That's good enough."

It wasn't meant to detract from the situation. It wasn't meant to discourage, or take shots, or undercut Hy-Brasil's question. It was what she could ask for. It was all she wanted — to be alive afterward, to be able to make choices and process what happened to her and learn from her every mistake and success. It was all she could ask for any of them, really, and it seemed miraculous to her that no one fell in that fight when it seemed like everyone was about to collapse and give up on themselves.

Hy-Brasil had warned them. Celadon knew that she was fresh to this war, and that the people who were leagues more powerful than her had probably been in it for maybe as much as half a decade, maybe longer. So if the Sidhe attacks crippled her that severely, and she had only just broken the surface of the trauma waiting for her as part of wartime efforts, then she could only guess that the veterans had faced many, many more tragedies than she could ever imagine. And to have all of that rooted up from the ground and churned fresh must have been devastating. The fact that they were all standing, speaking, willing to keep going was testament to their iron wills, she thought.

She didn't know if it was time for a rousing speech, though. She knew she wasn't the one who should make it, that it would seem like a mocking caricature coming from her. And maybe, in a year or two, she'll remember these thoughts with a grim sort of embarrassment.

Celadon made to sit on one of the benches. It wasn't much better than sitting on a rock — she would actually prefer the rock — but it took the weight off her leg. Reaching over, she tugged on the sleeve of the girl in pink (Nectaris) to urge her to take a seat.

"So there's good things and bad things like what we experienced," Celadon recapped carefully. "When something like this happens on a Wonder, does it happen again?"

Hy-Brasil

"This war we're in isn't a kind one." She said in agreement with Stari and Erytheia. "There's all kinds of fights we face."

The collective mood was definitely a low. Hy couldn't blame any of them though. The Sidhe were brutal. "i am sorry you all went through that." She apologized, her hands clasped in front of her, a thumb rubbing along the top of the opposite hand. "The Sidhe have been a problem on my wonder for a long time. I've been dealing with them and their effects for years now. I know what you went through out there. Well...sort of." Everyone's mind was its own individual battle field.

"On the good side, with them purified from the island, any affects they had should wear off." The was the silver lining here. Any strong negative thoughts and emotions should diminish fairly quickly. At least, that's what the Knight could assume if she based it off of Cashel's information. Funny how that old man. was conveniently missing right now.

She sighed. "Well, considering introductions earlier were short and clipped, how about we start there again? Some of you seem..." Young? New? "Inexperienced to all of this. And some of you I've certainly never had the pleasure of meeting before now. So, in an effort to actually remember all of your names.." She held up a hand. "I'll admit I am not great at remembering names. Faces, yes." She cracked a smile, trying to lighten the mood a bit. "So, I am Hy-Brasil, a Knight of Earth. Outside of that title, I am Gweneth and spend a good portion of my time at a gym practicing how to fight."

Halle

It didn't seem the appropriate time to look, well, relieved at the idea of fighting monsters on wonders. But it was something that, while dangerous and even traumatically so, was simple. See bad thing, beat up bad thing. There was a clear direction to it, one that didn't involve having to ask himself things like, should I kidnap and torture someone for information? A question that was hard to even ask, and he'd been lucky enough not to have to follow through on the answer.

Nodding as he followed their answers and silver linings, Halle wondered if his forest held something like the Sidhe. Just biding its time until there was enough of a world to try and tear back down again. Right now the most obvious danger there was in the decaying stairs and flooring at the lodge.

Clearing his throat, he gave Hy-Brasil a solemn, I'm A Serious Adult nod and briefly considered if there was a knightly bow or something he should do. Almere would probably know. "I'm Halle, squire of Lysithea. Myself, my brother, and my cousin became Lysithea knights several months ago. We're all still in high school and trying to learn to fight in our free time."

“Worlds, wonders, even the city. Yes.”

Erytheia answered and could feel the tension in his words. No where was safe. Not the worlds we protect. Not Earth. Not even our homes.

“But there are good things, too. It just… it’s hard sometimes to remember that when bad things happen.”

Celadon’s words made him remember there was good. She was new. Halle was likewise young. Was it the years that made him so cynical? No. It wasn’t that. He had been good at catastrophizing when he was a page. And he had thought he had gotten better. That he wasn’t who he was before. That transcendence had somehow fixed that part of his personality that always worried.

“It is good that the effects will wear off. I’m afraid they really have thrown me for a loop. I’m sorry. I should introduce myself, too. I’m Erytheia, knight of Cosmos.”
