On a long and lonesome highway, east of Omaha You can listen to the engine moanin' out his one note song You can think about the woman or the girl you knew the night before But your thoughts will soon be wanderin' the way they always do When you're ridin' sixteen hours and there's nothin' there to do And you don't feel much like ridin', you just wish the trip was through
Here I am On the road again There I am On the stage Here I go Playin' star again There I go Turn the page Metallica's cover of "Turn the Page" began with the iconic strum of a guitar. The fans, with a cheer and some trepidation, turn to the stage as they stand tall to get a quick glimpse at Hiro Shin-Mozas with their own eyes. It was at King of the Canvas that Jamie Bader and Dallas Cruz would make their presence known in the world of professional wrestling once more, with zero explanation deciding to tear down what Hiro had built for himself since returning...though to be fair, it wasn't much of anything. There was no big collapse of a tower skyscraper, not even the implosion of a mansion...just a hut made of straw, blown away by that big bad wolf Jamie Bader. Hiro had mentioned in a post-show promo that he was going to be here at Vengeance, not to wrestle -- but to talk. It wasn't his usual M.O., it wasn't Nuke Fusion he was here to see...no, it was his son, Avari. The Ethnic Enigma seemed to have taken serious issue with some of what the young Fusion had to say during his promo, and who could blame him? As the song reached the chorus, Hiro would come out from the back, his head taped up and with a clear limp. It had been a while since Hiro had new merchandise, but he wore an all new shirt you could get RIGHT NOW on WWFGSHOP.com. It was a parody of the poster for the Dark Knight Rises with Hiro in place of Batman, and the text "The Hiro Rises...AGAIN". It was super original, I gotta tell ya'. Anyway, Hiro made his way down the ramp, acknowledging the fans with small waves but not really being his usual self as had been the norm over the last couple of events. He got down to ringside and walked around to take hold of a microphone from a crew member, speaking as he walked up the steps. "First off, hello, it's great to be here. I'm feeling sore, but not too horrible all things considered. I saw earlier tonight that Nuke is back in the saddle, he's calling himself a Redeemer, and he forgave Drako for what he did to him. That's pretty good, I'm glad to see Nuke can be as forgiving as I am, and decided to continue down a path I blazed seven years ago when I tried to change the kind of man Freakshow was, as unsuccessful as that turned out. It could end up going better for Papa Fusion, but for right now, I want to talk to his boy. Avari, I told you a while back you were walking a fine line with the way you chose to word things, and when you decided to lambaste me for not following through on defending that Fusion name, you showed me that there was one thing you didnt inherit from your pops: the ability to understand. I don't want to be upset with you, and I sure as hell don't want you upset with me...so come on out, Avari. Let's talk. Man to man." Hiro would bring his arm down to his side, mic in hand, and make his way towards the ropes facing the entrance way. He leaned on them and looked up towards the titantron, waiting for it to light up with the response he was looking for. The fans would cheer on the request, hoping to see the two fan favorites engage in a discussion over respect and redemption live in the ring today...quite the treat for them.

If Hiro was expecting some grand entrance from Avari, he was to be mistaken here. There was a few moments of silence and waiting from the stage area before a voice shot out across the sound system.
"Hiro! Hey, up here!"
Avari Fusion was standing in the middle of the crowd as a spotlight moved over to illuminate him. The fans around were going wild and cheering, but he stayed calm looking over at the man in the ring.

Avari Fusion, The Man of the Hour, reaches out and puts an arm around the people either side of him with a big smile on his face. If there was any confusion from Hiro, it was about to be addressed.
"You might be wondering why I'm up here in the crowd, rather than making a flashy entrance with my entrance music. The truth, is because these are my people, Hiro.
The truth is that nine out of ten times, these people would rather follow the legacy of the Fusion name, than yours. Let's not put a dark mark on your name at all, you've done some incredible things.. but my family have done better."
Avari began to move out of the row of people and to the aisle of stairway, making a slow walk down.
"You know that what I say is true, and you know it hurts. Hiro, we all know that you wish you were born to this family, and that Nuke had accepted you as one of his own.. or even accepted you as one of his friends."
The walk down the stairs continued as Avari immediately seemed to come at Hiro from this angle, even with the man in the ring looking defeated with his limp.
"Just take a moment to think about the events that have happened. Nuke is beaten down and bloodied by The Syndicate, leaving that big gap there, and you can't help but attempt to fill it. You step in and go toe-to-toe with the World Heavyweight Champion, Drako Damo-"
Avari had to stop as the crowd let off as massive jeer at the names of The Syndicate and Drako. He waited a good twenty seconds or so before it started to fade out.
"And you lost, Hiro, you lost. But you didn't just lose, did you? You said you were going to do it in my father's name, you were going to do it for the almighty Nuke Fusion.
Tell me, Hiro, did Nuke ask you to do that? No.
Tell me.. did he thank you for doing that? No.
Tell me this one.. did he even acknowledge you when he returned earlier tonight?"
Avari shook his head as he continued down towards the ring at a slow pace.
"What have you got to say for yourself, Hiro? Because I think you're just a lost soul looking for somewhere, or someone, to call home. Please, tell me if I'm wrong."

Hiro was disappointed as his attention turned to Avari out in the crowd. This wasn't what he was expecting -- he assumed the young Fusion would join him in the ring, show him at least a little bit of respect by sharing it with him. Though, that might have been too much to ask for the way things were going right now, the relations between both men being a little strained since the day Hiro met the grown-up version of Nuke's son. The last time they interacted, there was a warning from the Ethnic Enigma to the son of the Nuclear God -- watch your step. Don't let your words breed true arrogance. The idea that these were his people, that he felt the need to put his family accomplishments on a much higher plane than ANYTHING Hiro had done. Though, the continued implication insinuated by Avari that Hiro wanted to be a part of the Fusion family...that was what really was stepping over the line for the Ethnic Enigma. There was a stinging pain behind the barbed words of Avari, and when he finally asked Hiro if what he was saying was wrong, the Ethnic Enigma was given his window. "...Well, I suppose, you're not all that wrong, no. Your dad didn't ask me to do anything. He didn't thank me for trying, either. I haven't actually heard from your dad since the night he cracked me in the head with a lead pipe and counted the 1-2-3. Truth be told, I should hate your father. I should hate you too, Avarita. You've done nothing but speak incredibly poorly of me, and while I can deal with that, I haven't much enjoyed how disrespectfully you've spoken TO me. I want you to not let your talent get to your head, don't mistake admiration from the crowd as an excuse to be a jerk. What you're saying about me, about me wishing I was in your family...that's not true. That's where you ARE wrong. I don't want to be your brother, I don't want to be Nuke's brother, I don't want anything more...than respect. Your dad betrayed my trust when I thought he was a friend. When I broke in, your father gave me a place to work, a place to get better. We were cool, we respected one another. We talked about when we'd get to tear the house down together finally, and unfortunately it never happened. Your dad, he never called me to apologize for breaking my head open with a pipe. He never called to apologize for costing me the championship, for forcing me out of WWF:G for months. He didn't say a word when I had to retire, and he never showed up again after that night until Wrestlemania this year.
Now, I am not a wildly religious man, I don't believe too much in miracles as much as I do coincidences -- though part of me thinks that it was written in the stars that your dad and I returned the same night in Los Angeles at Wrestlemania. All I've wanted to do since the moment I made my way backstage that night was to have a quick conversation with your dad. I wanted to be the one to let him know I forgive him for what he did. That just because I wasn't walking around calling myself the god of will anymore...that didn't mean I changed from the core of who I became thanks to guys like him. What you're doing here, the way you're choosing to treat me, look at this situation, all of it -- I like to think you're better than it. Honestly, I like to think your father is better than the way he's acting, too. So, to really answer your question Avari...I'm not a lost soul. Though, perhaps, I'm the husk that soul belongs to. I came back to professional wrestling, to my home in the WWF:G...because my soul got left behind the day I retired. It was never lost, it was always right here -- in the hallowed halls of our business. I think you've got it all wrong about me, Avari. I don't know what got into you thinking these things about me, or wanting to air them out this way...but there is a relationship between your Dad and I that I suppose you thought you knew, but maybe didn't. So, I'll tell you one more time -- as someone who does respect you, your family, and the wrestling business...please, watch your step."

As Hiro spoke and the words soaked in, the crowd actually watched and waited, they listened with baited breath for this exchange. Whilst the two men talking to each other were fan favourites in their eyes, this heated exchange was causing rifts between fans and making it so that even some others just didn't know what to shout out or chant.. so they just watched.
Meanwhile, Avari had been walking down the steps this whole time, and by the time that Hiro had finished he was up against the barricade and looking in to the ring. He nodded his head as Hiro finished and jumped the barricade, slowly beginning to pace the ring towards the steel steps.
Every step forward was deliberate, his eyes locked on Hiro, his gaze unnerving to a common man. But this was Hiro Shin-Mozas, a man that had been in this business a long time, and he wasn't going to back down. The young Fusion seemed to acknowledge that fact, as he stepped up towards the ring and stood on the ring apron.
Left hand on the top rope and right on the microphone, he went to speak and then entered the ring with the calmness and swagger of a veteran in this business. He took his time to walk in a half-circle around Hiro, keeping eye contact with him, before raising the microphone back up.
"There's one problem with everything you just said, isn't there Hiro? You speak of the legacy that you and my father laid down in this ring, the unfinished business between the two of you, and the brotherhood that just was never rekindled.
You speak of past great matches, untold history, and respect between great people...
But what happpens if I.. don't.. respect.. you?"

"You know what, Avari...you don't have to. That's the beautiful thing about me." The fans let out a worried "ooooh" as Avari insinuated he didn't have any respect for the Ethnic Enigma. They didn't want things to come to this -- having to fully choose sides between a couple of guys who, all things considered, probably shouldn't have any reason to be suffering from tension. Hiro didn't bother to move as he responded, keeping the distance the same between himself and The Man of the Hour. "I don't care if you respect me or not. I respect you, and that's all that really matters to me. I come into work now, fearing for my life. I have to use my own private locker room now not because I earned it, but because my lawyer suggested it. I don't get to go back to my house in South Dakota and rest because a couple of people I thought I knew decided they had to go too far. I haven't even been able to BUY a win since I came out of retirement, let alone earn one. So if you break it down like that, I'm a coward...I'm a weakling...and I'm a loser. I can't say I'd expect you or your father to respect that. However, despite all that...these folks, these people who love you and showered you when you stepped among them to get to me..." Hiro pointed out into the crowd, garnering a huge pop from the crowd that was happy to be apart of the conversation in this instance. The Ethnic Enigma rubbed his chin and looked down for a second, trying to formulate his next few words delicately. He'd never struggled to speak in his career, but in the past when he had no control over his emotions, when he let his hateful behavior flow through him...it would more often than not result in a fight and hurt feelings. The years gave him time to continue honing his ability to control himself, but in this moment, he was trying not to equate for how his words would come out but more so how they'd be perceived. "These people respect me. They respect me, lots of them, they respect me as much as they respect you. However, when you go around deciding to be the way that you've been when you get to talking about me...you're going to find that respect start to dwindle, and dwindle, up until you are standing this ring, being showered in nothing at all. Not a boo, not a cheer, nothing. Then, well...then you're going to be bringing much worse shame to the Fusion family than any loss ever could. Avarita, boy, you've got all the talent in the heavens and then some more for good measure. You keep framing what's gone on here between me and your dad, what's happening between you and I, as a black and white polaroid that you can coast your way past as just a small bump on the road to a greater future..." Hiro hoped that just in that moment, Avari paid close attention to the world around him. The eyes on him and Hiro, and the sheer weight that his words carried. They weren't words meant to intimidate, Hiro didn't speak as a rival regardless of what it looked like. There was a crowd that was decidedly becoming more and more behind Hiro in this instance. Jamie Bader tried to end him. Brantley Summers tried to humiliate him. Drako Damone tried to disregard him. Perhaps one day soon, Blackjack would once again try to kill him. However, in a hobbled stance, covered in bandages and with the weight of two decades of experience in the ring...Hiro held millions of pounds more, all in the attention of the crowd surrounding them and watching at home. If he truly wanted to, if there was malice in this man's heart towards Avari...he could turn this entire building on him. "So make sure that you do everything you can to make sure they all respect you too. Don't disregard who they care about and who they love to see, because the more you do that...the less they'll care about you. Nuke raised a good kid in you, I know that. You were just a teenager being given a ton of responsibility in WWE:E, that's your families baby. I know what you're about. You've already proven that a mindset like this doesn't look good on you. So perhaps, instead of watching your step...you watch your heart, boy. I've been down this path, like I warned you before. If you'd rather end up like your dad instead of like me, then perhaps...you can shake my hand, and we can squash this here." Hiro put out his hand, the fans eagerly pushing Avari on with their cheers. They wanted this. It was important to them to know that The Man of the Hour really understood what Hiro was trying to convey here. The Ethnic Enigma's cold but soft look never deviated from Avari's as he held his hand out.

Avari listened and looked out at the crowd as half of them cheered for Hiro, the other half either fans of Avari, or perhaps unsure themselves on what to do. For a few moments he listened to the crowd as well, listening to them intently, and deliberating before deciding how to reply.
His face squashed together for a moment, his brow wrinkled as he contemplated the scenario. Tapping his foot on the floor, he felt that his heart beat in his chest. The crowd were cheering both men on at this point, almost putting Fusion on the spot at that point.
But who was he to always go by what other people wanted? He was his own man.
Avari brought the microphone back up to his lips, his gaze going from Hiro's offer of a handshake to the cold, and almost dead, stare of the man in front of him.
"One of the greatest things I ever learned from my father, was that respect is earned and not just given freely. You have earned no respect from me, standing here looking shabby, banged up and .. almost homeless."
The crowd had a mixed reaction to that one. Some of the crowd cheered for the lack of respect, some jeered the words being said, and some were still on the fence about the whole situation.
But it was clear that Avaritia wasn't going to be taking Hiro's hand right now.
In fact, some of the fans had commented that what Avari said had shades of the Nuke Fusion of old, the legendary top heel they loved to hate. Some fans were younger and didn't quite get the reference, but were still being explained things by their parents, or egged on by older siblings to shout out things.
"Respect from my father is earned, and the same goes for me. You are on the worst losing streak that this company has seen in a while, and yet you walk in to this ring almost demanding my respect.
To be completely honest with you, the only thing you deserve is someone wishing you luck in your future endeavors."
The crowd rang out their mixed reaction again, Fusion stepping back for a moment and leaning in to the ropes. He thinks for a moment and looks at the ropes either side of him, squints his eyes, then looks over at Hiro.
"You keep mentioning this phrase, this one particular phrase that I just can't get out of my head. You .. you keep telling me .. to watch my step.
Well that brings me to an idea, one that I think even you might agree is something these beautiful people here at Vengeance deserve to see. I propose something that we've not seen in a long time.. A match for the ages, one that might even get that attention of the great Nuke Fusion, the Redeemer."
The crowd gave off a loud pop for Nuke's name drop, as Avari pushed himself back off the ropes. He made sure to catch Hiro's eyes again and then purposely looked down at his feet.
Avari took one step. He took a second step. Then a third step, right until he was just one more away from Hiro.
"Hiro Shin-Mozas.. I challenge you to a Watch Your Step match, right here, right now, at Vengeance."
The crowd gave a massive cheer, their delight evident in the proposal put towards Hiro! After all, Hiro surely wasn't a man to back down!?
"If you defeat me, then you will gain my respect. That seems more than fair to me, I'm sure you'd agree?"

Hiro cringed at the comments made by Avari. Hiro, almost on instinct, would drop his hand quickly, removing that option quickly after Avari called him homeless. However, his gaze never deviated from the young man before him. He was beginning to sound something like a d**k, quite frankly. Hiro already made it clear he didn't need Avari's respect, but he was indeed demanding he respect the crowd. The Ethnic Enigma knew what was coming after a certain point, but held out the slightest hope...those were dashed quickly, though. Avari was hinting at it, and finally did it -- he challenged Hiro Shin-Mozas to a match, but not just any match...the one that Mike Landry himself had popularized -- his signature Watch Your Step match. Avari was within a foot of Hiro now, having somehow turned the situation on the veteran as now the fans would be on the verge of turning on him if he denied them this massive match here tonight. "I...You know, I'm not shocked you want to squash this here in the ring physically as opposed to just with words. We think alike, at least in that regard. You don't have to shake my hand, but I'll tell you what...I'll force you to by the time we're done here. You want to go Watch Your Step with me? I may have never been in one, but I've seen them all -- and with respect to the innovator Mike Landry, I'll be happy to make this match my own for one night. You bring up a fair point, I've been dropping matches worse than an enhancement talent -- but tonight that'll change, Avari. My body wont be an excuse, because tonight the soul that was left behind rejoins me and gives me the power to send you crawling back to your dad DEMANDING he speak with me!" Hiro gingerly rips the new t-shirt he has off his body, revealing a still bruised and scarred torso. The fans go bananas, Hiro tossing the microphone to the side all ready to go up against Avari right here, right now -- just as he was requested.

BANG BANG!
The crowd cheers as the beloved Hardcore Legend and WWFG General Manager, Mick Foley, enters the arena. The air crackles with anticipation as fans rise to their feet, their voices blending into a symphony of cheers and applause.
Mick Foley stops at the entrance ramp as he looks at the two men in the ring, who are about to start brawling with each other.
Foley: "Hold on a minute gentlemen! I can feel the excitement pulsating in this arena. I know everyone here at Vengeance is itching to witness this epic clash and trust me, I'm right there with you. But Hiro, my friend, the doctors haven't given you the green light to step into the ring tonight."
A wave of disappointment washes over the crowd, their collective sigh echoing through the arena.
Mick Foley's words have put a temporary halt to the impending clash as he reluctantly intervenes, ensuring the safety of the competitors.
Foley: "I understand your frustration, Hiro! There has been many times when doctors have got in my way during my wrestling career. But from what I'm hearing, Hiro will be cleared, just in time for the biggest party of the summer, Summerslam."
The crowd's despondency transforms into a renewed sense of hope and anticipation. The mere mention of Summerslam sends a surge of excitement coursing through their veins.
Foley: "So you two keep your cool, have a nice day...and Summerslam just got a huge match added to the show! Now, Hiro, I want you to focus on your recovery. Take this setback as an opportunity to come back stronger, faster and more resilient than ever before."
Mick Foley extends a thumbs-up and a warm smile to Avari and Hiro, assuring them that their moment to shine will come soon enough.

Avari turns his head halfway to look at Mick as he comes out and, as the words come out of his mouth, Avari's own frustration and disappointment is almost completely in line with the fans' own. His gaze drops to the mat for a second, then he looks at Mick and back to Hiro.
For a few moments after Foley has finished speak, The Man of the Hour doesn't say a word. He looks at the Ethnic Enigma up and down and shakes his head a little, before raising the microphone back up.
"You know.. the Hiro I knew from back in the day.. the Ethnic Enigma that I watched from back stage all those years back when I was younger.."
There was something different to his voice this time around, it didn't sound as arrogant or brash. It sounded like.. genuine disappointment, and a lot more personal this time.
"None of this would have stopped him. The bruises, the injuries, management saying no.. the Hiro Shin-Mozas that many of us looked up to, they would have expected you to just do it anyway, to put your body on the line, even if you were told otherwise.. even if you knew it wouldn't end well for you."
The crowd were oddly silent, but a small cheer and clap rang out across the arena. This was the first time that Avari had actually shown respect to Hiro, even if it was reminiscing over the past.
"I get it to a degree, I understand if Mick tells you no, that you should follow the orders. But I can't say that I'm not disappointed, Hiro. I expected so much more, when.. maybe I shouldn't have."
Avari looked straight at Hiro in his eyes, and there was a genuine connection between him and Hiro for a moment. Fusion showed his emotion in his words as he spoke, everything coming straight from the heart.
"Maybe I shouldn't have.. because you've always been a failure, haven't you?"

Hiro was as disappointed as they come with the appearance of Mick Foley, as he knew where it was going right away. Hiro had been told earlier he shouldn't be competing tonight, that he still needed to rest his body as a precaution due to his previous health issues. Nobody doubted that Hiro would be able to fight through this, not Mick nor the doctors, or any fans in attendance this evening. Avari's word stung. He was correct in saying back in the day, he'd have never listened to Mick. He'd have jumped Avari right now, kick starting this match -- forcing security to separate them if they had to. There would be nothing that would keep someone from getting hurt tonight...but that was then. A different body, a different man...a different lifetime. The Ethnic Enigma was able to keep himself calm and collected, but was irked all the same when Avari began to go down his most disrespectful path yet. He locked eyes with his elder, and insinuated he was always a failure. Hiro would break the stare and look down at the mat, fixated on his own feet. It took a lot to not bark back. It took a lot to be the bigger man, to continue his crusade of engaging with Avari in the first place: show him how to be a decent person in this business. The words stung, the idea had crossed Hiro's mind before: perhaps he was nothing more than a failure. The sins of his early career, the holes he dug deeper for himself...were they all an excuse? Did he do all that simply so when he did fail, he could plausibly deny it being his fault on a skill level, saying he simply made things too hard on himself to succeed as a way of trying to get better? Everyone would think he was admirable for that, he once thought...but then, he won the Legacy Championship. He may have lost it, but then he won it again. He did more in a six month span than Avari had in his entire career, so if he was indeed a failure...perhaps Avari was an even bigger one. "...Avari, you'll get the answer to that at Summerslam, when you stumble and fall. You should've watched your step." Hiro spikes his microphone into the mat and breaks free of his renewed glance with Avari, stepping to the ropes and through them to ringside. He begins to walk up the ramp as a graphic pops up on the titantron showing both men will indeed compete at Summerslam in a Watch Your Step match.

Avari watched as his potential opponent Hiro left the ring, his marching orders called and he followed them as one would expect. But Fusion didn't seem too happy with what had just occurred, as he raised the microphone to his lips.
"Mick! Hey, Mick! Before you go, I have something I want to request."
Avari pointed out at all of the crowd around them, and then walked over and leaned over the ropes, almost trying to watch for Foley's reaction.
"These people came here tonight expecting to the see The Man of the Hour in action!"
The crowd gave a loud cheer at that prospect, as Avari pumped his arms in the air in response.
"It would be a shame to let them down, wouldn't it? Now can you work some magic and get me an opponent for tonight?
Hell, why not right now? After all, I am in my ring gear and ready for action!"
The crowd gave another wild cheer as they awaited Mick's reaction, some fans chanting out 'Yes! Yes! Yes!' in response.

Mick Foley turns around, his eyes scanning the sea of excited fans, their voices blending into a harmonious chant that reverberates through the arena.
The energy in the air is palpable, and Foley can't help but feel a surge of adrenaline coursing through his veins.
Foley: "The last time I checked, you ARE medically cleared, Avari..."
Foley's voice booms through the speakers, cutting through the roar of the crowd.
His words hang in the air, a mix of challenge and opportunity.
The fans, caught up in the moment, erupt into a thunderous cheer, their anticipation mounting as they believe they can see where this is going.
Their collective excitement creates an electric atmosphere, crackling with the promise of something extraordinary.
Foley: "...so I think that these fans deserve to see you compete while Hiro is out of action!"
Foley's voice carries the weight of authority, his words resonating with conviction.
The crowd's cheer intensifies, their belief in Foley's decision evident in their fervent response.
Foley: "I'm going to find somebody to challenge you right here, right now, on Vengeance!"
Foley's proclamation echoes through the arena, his determination fueling the crowd's enthusiasm.
The fans are now on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting the revelation of Avari's opponent.
With a resolute stride, Mick Foley turns and begins his journey to the back, his mind focused on the mission at hand.
The backstage area bustles with activity as Foley navigates through the labyrinth of corridors, his purpose driving him forward.
