Prompt 7 The Fairies (7) : The City has been lit up for the Star Festival with banners and twinkling decorations strewn off the windowsills of shop fronts and windows. The gardeners at one particular park have put their heart and soul into creating a fairy's paradise: Fairy lights have been carefully dangled from trees to make strings of stars, little beaded jewels have been hidden among the hedges, and even the old cobwebs have been sprayed with just a touch of glitter. The park is open to everyone and the citizens of Destiny City have been invited to respectfully explore the hidden wonders that have been placed throughout. The park is magical enough on its own but there have also been reports of a strange, ethereal and shimmering stranger in the park. The glimmer of a beautiful costumed figure fluttering through the park has been passed around as rumor, and no matter what anyone claims to see, no one can take a picture of it. As if simply seeing some magical figure isn’t mysterious enough, there are also reports of mischief and small pranks being played at the same time this figure seems to appear. “So… it’s not really so bad, r-right? Don’t you think?” Narcissus offered hesitantly as he lightly swung his and Rakovanite’s intertwined hands.
Of course he knew they were not in a great spot! Their home was still in a pretty uncomfortable state, and that tended to make his poor fiance upsetty really easily… But it wasn’t so bad! It was alright, even! This was a uniquely special time of year for them, and given the state of things, they now had an actual excuse to leave the house to do a little celebrating- not that there weren’t other reasons too, since Narcissus rarely powered up alone anymore, and they probably would’ve come out even unpowered for at least one night to enjoy the festivities.
But this just felt like an opportunity to make the most of the unfortunate circumstances! Narcissus didn’t want to squander it… And it helped that he knew he was in the very special position to make his grouchy, grumbly fiance a little less grouchy and grumbly. That was its own reward too.
It was a pretty evening, a far cry from the stormy skies from the day prior. Still nice and temperate in terms of the heat, with the sun from the day having dashed through much of the humidity. It was setting now, with inky blues bleeding into vibrant oranges on the horizon. Though much of that was obscured from them by the dense foliage cover that surrounded them. Such foliage had been decorated for the summer festivities with lanterns, pretty string lights, and glitter. Even though the sun was setting, and they were under the embrace of the canopy, everything was still warmly lit.
To keep to the pretext of what they were doing out here, Narcissus had let his wraiths roam. When they’d first entered the park, there’d been scattered couples and groups to drain here and there, but now that they’d wandered farther from the entrance, the two wraiths mostly hovered about a yard from Narcissus’ heel, as if waiting for another opportunity to present itself.
But what they did wasn’t insanely high on the list of things at the forefront of the senshi’s mind. He was glad for the chance to do a little draining, but it wasn’t what they were doing out here, exactly, and he felt a little wriggle of anticipation run up his spine. Narcissus leaned to lay his cheek to Rakovanite’s shoulder. “Do you know where we are?” He invited in the softest, calmest tone he could manage.

It had not seemed wise to let Narcissus go out alone for quite some time now, what with all the White Moon princesses popping up every handful of months, and Rakovanite couldn’t say with any certainty how likely they were to just decide to hurt a senshi affiliated with the Dark Mirror Court. Probably not extraordinarily likely, but Rakovanite didn’t like ‘probably’ when it came to Narcissus’ safety. Only definites.
He tagged along when his fiance felt compelled to power up, with the promise that he would be unobtrusive toward whatever Narcissus needed to accomplish. Whether it was to drain or set up mirrors or simply watch passerby, Rakovanite simply stayed by his side and let him do as he wished. He figured he could spare the time. It was no inconvenience to him, since Nataniel powered up most nights, while Basyl did so very sparingly. He wasn’t ‘missing out’ by letting Narcissus take the lead every once in a while.
As he had tonight. A brow arched as Rakovanite cocked his head to peer from the corner of his eye at the other man. “You led us out here, so I certainly hope you know where we are.”
But he suspected the intent of the question was not so much to ask if they were lost, and more so to judge Rakovanite’s familiarity with the locale. His shoulders relaxed. He eased down to rest his head against Narcissus’, where he leaned against his shoulder. His thumb swiped a firm circle into the back of the senshi’s hand. Many parks were decorated every year for the Star Festival. Rakovanite doubted he’d seen all of them, but he must have visited at least a handful every year. This one was no exception.
“It is where we met for the first time,” he answered quietly. “Three years ago.”
Where ‘Narcissus’ and ‘Rakovanite’ had met, anyway. Basyl and Nataniel hadn’t met for several more months. Obviously there had been no way of knowing this is how it would end up. Rakovanite had felt exactly zero sparks from the encounter, and he was fairly positive the senshi had felt the same. If memory served, it had been a fairly terse ecperience… And now… He turned his cheek to lay a soft kiss to the crown of Narcissus’ head.

“I-it’s where we met!” Narcissus parrotted, voice taking on more of its usual jittery and excited tone because- Well, probably because a part of him couldn’t really believe that they’d known each other for three years! They’d both had these powers and been part of this war for longer than that (though not much longer, in his case)! And how could they ever have possibly known that anything like this was where they would end up in that span of time?
There was no telling what would happen from here, but at least for the moment…
It was exciting that they’d met. Exciting that they were in love. Exciting that they were due to be married. Exciting that they were happy, despite their weird house troubles and the forever ongoing Order-Chaos war. And even though it definitely hadn’t felt like it at the time, that path had started right here. Right here! The first time they’d seen each other.
His fingers disentangled from Rakovanite’s, and he twisted to stand before the other man, palms skating up to lay on his shoulders as he tipped forward to lock their lips together in a kiss. Maybe he was making a little more of it than Rakovanite cared to, but it was special and important to Narcissus. He wished he’d thought to pack a picnic or something, but at least they had all summer, he supposed… Instead, he only had a small trinket to offer, one he knew Rakovanite didn’t especially care about, but in the honor of tradition…
His lips quirked up as he pulled back, fingers dusting over Rakovanite’s forehead to brush a few strands of grassy green hair out of his eyes, and he held up one of the holiday’s festive favors: two small, tinkling, opalescent arrays of stars on little chains that he presented to the other.
“You were grouchy then too, you know,” Narcissus added with a hint of laughter in his voice. “You were k-kind of grouchy for a lot of our ‘firsts,’ actually.”

A piece of him wondered if Narcissus actually remembered that day better than he did. There’d been significant enough activity surrounding their run-in that Rakovanite was pretty sure he remembered the more uncomfortable parts better than he did anything about his now-betrothed senshi in that moment. …But it had been the first time they’d met, the first time Narcissus had supported him even though he had no real reason to, the first time Rakovanite had seen the qualities he adored in the man he cherished, even if he hadn’t been particularly appreciative at the time.
And now, ‘grouchy’ or not, Rakovanite couldn’t imagine wanting it to have gone any other way.
His palms settled to either side of Narcissus’ neck as he leaned in for the kiss, never quite tired of the warm, bitter coffee taste that always seemed to linger on the other’s tongue. It didn’t last, but neither was he particularly bothered. His love was pleased, if the little upward tick of his lips and warm, affectionate expression was anything to go by.
And the cheeky glint in his eyes as he presented a trinket up for Rakovanite’s inspection. He snorted at the offering, but took one of the charms from Narcissus’ fingers, anyway. He didn’t know how he ended up with so many of these things every year, but he was sure Narcissus’ hoarder tendencies had something to do with it.
“I think I was entitled to be a little grouchy,” Rakovanite stated. “My shoulder had just been dislocated.” And he thought he was entitled to be a little grouchy now too, since his home, his safe haven was not currently affording him all the amenities he was accustomed to. But even with all of that, the general did not think he was irritable as often as Narcissus implied. “What other ‘firsts’ do you think I was upset about?”

Narcissus was still smiling, but his gaze wandered, flitting up to the leafy canopy and then out to the glowing lanterns with light that backlit many of Rakovanite’s already-dark features. “Oh, y-you know…” He said noncommittally, scuffing a sandal against the grass. Well, he’d brought it up himself, which the senshi should know damn well better than to do unless he wanted further engagement on the subject. But sometimes (often) things just sort of spilled out without him thinking too much about it.
He chewed the edge of his lip, but shrugged his shoulders. It wasn’t like he was expecting Rakovanite to be mad about it, or anything. This was nothing terribly serious, and he still felt pretty at ease. No harm in reminiscing, he supposed.
“How about the first time we danced,” he offered. It had been wedged in the middle of several weeks worth of unplanned, forced time together, before they’d had any kind of relationship besides ‘cordial.’ A lot of their initial trust for each other was still banking very heavily off of their first unhappy encounter, and it had been pure happenstance that they’d been shoved into that weird, foggy, dangerous world together. That dance had felt like a little piece of something normal. “Or our first kiss?” Admittedly during the same time period. Not like Narcissus could blame anyone for being a little desperate and needy for affection…
And Rakovanite had had a really, really upsetting depressed demeanor. Narcissus was pretty sure that had been the first time he’d identified something like… dejection, maybe?- from the agent, too. He was pleased that it was a rarity now, but at the time it had felt… Particularly dangerous. Like a warning for something oncoming and permanent that Narcissus did not feel equipped to handle- didn’t want to feel equipped to handle.
His fingers smoothed up, over Rakovanite’s shoulders and back, fidgeting through the discomfort at those memories, and the next. “Or the second time we kissed, for that matter,” he added as an afterthought. Though he’d probably personally been a little more upset than Rakovanite that time…

Rakovanite remained quietly thoughtful while Narcissus spoke, silently picking through the memories to parse out when these things had happened. Their first dance… over Halloween, perhaps four months after the first and only time they’d met prior. They’d been trapped in a ghost village being hunted by some monster. Rakovanite wasn’t sure anyone had been happy- But he did remember Narcissus smiling for him: tiny, sheepish, and unsure. His sweet senshi would not have done anything to add to anyone else’s upset, no matter how uncomfortable the situation.
And the kiss had been a few days after, still in the same village. Rakovanite remembered that more acutely than he remembered the dance, remembered exactly what he’d said, ’It is not enough to me.’ It wouldn’t have been enough to try and make a new life there, if they had been doomed to be trapped forever. He wasn’t sure if he’d been sad about it. He’d just been… It was just that there were certain things he’d accepted that might happen.
Narcissus had thought Rakovanite would kill himself.
He was probably right.
He appreciated that it hadn’t gone that way, and his thumbs rubbed little circles against Narcissus’ jaw in an attempt to soothe his fidgeting. “We were trapped in a depressing world with literally no commodities, and there was a very real chance of death with no one able to do anything about it. You picked a very odd time to instigate ‘firsts’ if you were hoping for happier ones,” he answered. “But there is always time for more firsts. …And more seconds. Preferably ones that involve less stabbing.”
Since that was how he’d found Narcissus for the first time after they’d been freed from that gloomy world. The senshi had gotten tangled up with a youma who might have been trying to rip his heart out? It was a little unclear, but for obvious reasons, that hadn’t been a happy time, either.
“...Do you only do those sweet things for me because I look unhappy?”

Narcissus’ teeth worried at his lip, bright gaze flitting down to avoid Rakovanite’s and then quickly back up. He liked to think that he didn’t do it because- that he wouldn’t litter just anyone with physical affections because they were sad. That would be a little intrusive, probably… Most people wouldn’t really enjoy that from him, and Narcissus didn’t think he’d enjoy it from most people in turn. He hadn’t known the agent very well, either, but did at least recognize someone who seemed to take a particular comfort in having another person’s support.
…And Rakovanite was nice to look at, even while sad.
His shoulders rolled a little, nails scratching at the stiff fabric at the back of Rakovanite’s collar, where Narcissus’ arms were still draped over his shoulders. It sounded like there was a diminished value to his affection if it happened ‘just because Rakovanite was sad,’ but that wasn’t- y’know, what he wanted it to mean.
“W-well, I guess- I guess I’d be lying if I s-said it wasn’t some factor…” Narcissus admitted sheepishly. Many of those earlier times hadn’t found either of them in an especially good mood, and it was impossible to know what would be different if they had been. “I like to see you happy. I like to be the one to m-make you happy, so, i-it’s just that when I can, of course I’m going to. Or I’m at least going to t-try. And I didn’t really know what would make you happy, then, but I do now- It’s even- uhm- it’s pretty easy, n-now…”
Maybe not for most people. Probably not for most people. Rakovanite was hardly smiley, silly, or lighthearted. It could be difficult to tell when he was pleased. But Narcissus thought he could. He thought he could still tell when his lover was happy in the way he relaxed, in the subtle shift in cadence of his voice, maybe the way he looked back at Narci…
The senshi smiled, leaned forward to rest his cheek against Rak’s shoulder. “I do them now because I love you. Maybe it was more selfish, back then, like to make me feel better too- because we b-both needed it, and I didn't know what else I c-could…”
But he didn’t think it mattered now! Narcissus hummed a soft note, voice quiet as he sung out a sweet, “My loveeer…”

Rakovanite didn’t… think the notion of ‘just because he was unhappy’ was upsetting to him. He was well aware of Narcissus’ motivations: he didn’t want to see people hurt, he wanted to help, it was irrelevant if it was detrimental to himself, whatever he could do, he would. Rakovanite was at peace with that, even if he did not share the sentiment. His fiancé was gentle and sweet, honest and supportive- to literally anyone he met. Including angry, callous, judgmental, potentially murdery agents.
Not really traits Rakovanite had ever seen himself being enamored by. And in fact, probably considered them more troublesome than valuable, typically. But they were beautiful on Basyl… And appreciated when the effort was put in to make Rakovanite feel better. It might have also helped that the particular acts of holding, touching, kissing did seem mostly reserved for him.
Rakovanite’s tone definitely did not share the little musical hum Narcissus’ had when he repeated back, “Mera premee…” ’My lover…’
He brushed a thumb against Narcissus’ cheek, carded fingers through his hair to tuck unruly lavender waves behind his ear. They really couldn’t have known. Rakovanite had sat hardly more than a handful of paces away from this spot where he stood right now and glared at the man in front of him three years ago. Probably had even thought about killing the senshi if he started to feel threatened, Rakovanite couldn’t remember for sure.
A thoughtful sound slipped from his throat, fingers snaking from Narcissus’ hair, around his ear and to the back of his neck, gripping at a fistful of hair. “You think I am ‘easy.’”

It was juuuust on impulse that Narcissus shifted away with a shocked little sound as fingers fisted in the back of his hair. It wasn’t enough to hurt. He didn’t feel threatened- he would never feel threatened by this man. It was just abrupt enough that Narcissus hadn’t immediately expected it. Abrupt, not unwelcome. “Eehhmm- Not exactly,” he admitted, chin notching up slightly, even as his gaze flitted around to land anywhere but on Rakovanite.
His fingers twisted incessantly, curling around and around in the loose ends of the agent’s hair, and he had to make a concerted effort to be still, to lay his palms flat against his fiancé’s chest. “I don’t think it…”
There’d been a time- there’d definitely been a time- when he’d wondered why things couldn’t ‘just be easy.’ Narcissus had wanted to make sure he did whatever made Rakovanite comfortable. He didn’t want to intrude or be overbearing or pushy. It had felt like their ‘relationship’ jumped forward unbelievably fast while they’d been trapped together… and then deescalated very quickly once they were free in Destiny City again. It was difficult to know what he should do… what was appropriate, and Basyl was not very decisive with those sorts of things… So it hadn’t really been easy. And Nataniel was not very open; he hadn’t helped in that regard.
Buuuut that was a long time ago.
Narcissus grabbed the cords hanging off Rakovanite’s shoulder in one hand and a fistful of the black fabric wrapping around his chest in the other and pulled, dragging the General forward to catch their lips together.

It was inherently only a little of an insult. ‘Easy.’ Remarkably close to ‘simple,’ some barely-there stretch to ‘dull,’ ‘predictable.’ Not compliments. Rakovanite probably would’ve been offended if the slight came from anyone else, although he certainly couldn’t remember a time ever being called as such. There were worse things. But he could be easy for Narcissus. Maybe even preferred it.
His grip in the senshi’s hair twisted slightly, trying to force Narcissus’ focus to actually land on him. If it didn’t, fine. Rakovanite knew Narcissus was practically helpless to stop his fidgeting.
And it didn’t matter in the next moment, anyway. The senshi’s hands found hold in all the various fabrics of his uniform and dragged on him, pulling them together. And unlike himself, Narcissus’ fuku had more openings available for direct contact. Rakovanite’s palm slid down the exposed side of the senshi’s chest, curving around his ribs and slipping inside his dark robes to latch to his hip.
…Maybe he was pretty easy.
“Are you going to let me take your clothes off here?” Rakovanite asked, playing with the top hem of Narcissus’ pants under his robe. “Or should I just…” In the spirit of discussing their ‘firsts,’ the first time they’d touched each other had also been in a deserted forest (though one slightly more spooky and less public than this). It wouldn’t be Rakovanite that found it inappropriate to just shove his hands down Narcissus’ pants. No one was around for the moment- though since the area was decorated, that might not last indefinitely.

“Hrrrmm…” His lashes flit to lay across his cheeks, head canting to the side as Narcissus leaned his weight forward to rest against Rakovanite’s chest.
And it was kind of unfair, wasn’t it? Through no choice of his own, Narcissus’ outfit was open and loose and even where he was covered, the material was easy to get past. All his draping robery. He’d seen senshi of all stripes in half-shirts and booty shorts and bras and skirts. And even knights seemed as likely to be half-naked as not. But Metallia was a huge cockblock, and none of her agents walked around with their titties out. The amount of effort Narcissus had to go through to get to literally any part of Rakovanite’s skin was ridiculous. If he wanted Rakovanite out of his clothes, he had to go through layers- layers of straps and ties and leather and coats, and honestly, it was no wonder so many agents were frustrated murderers.
He picked at one of the gold clasps holding the General’s vest closed, fidgety fingers hardly deft against the small buttons. And there was some frustration about that, mixed in with the heat from the way Rakovanite’s palms slid over his waist and down his hips.
Narcissus might have laughed. ‘Let him?’ Nataniel could pretty consistently do whatever he wanted, and it was rare that Basyl would make any effort to stop him. He definitely could think of situations they’d been in where Narci had to do something to interrupt what Rakovanite was doing, but those instances had been very different from this instance. There was that whole thing about it maybe not being great to be caught with their pants down if an enemy showed up, but that wasn’t really prominent in Narcissus’ mind.
“Mm… Y-yeah. That’s- it sounds good.” He didn’t specify which part sounded good, because it felt like he would take and be happy with just about anything. Narcissus leaned in to nuzzle into the warmth at Rakovanite’s neck- pretty much the only thing he had access to. His tongue flicked out, tasting salt on the other man’s skin, nipping at his throat with teeth-
And then his gaze landed on something over Rakovanite’s shoulder, and Narcissus jolted, gasped, flinched away from the person a handful of yards away. “N-Nat, there’s…”
Or… not a person? An apparition. Shimmering and ghosting through the grass. There’d been something like that the first time too, though Narcissus had mostly forgotten that part in favor of everything else.

’It sounds good.’
Rakovanite needed little more specification than that. Both his hands slipped down to Narcissus’ waist, thumbs hooking into the waistband of his pants before tugging them down over the curve of the senshi’s a**. His lover’s teeth pinched at his neck, and Rakovanite dragged Narcissus flush against him, leaning in to demand access to his lips.
And of course it pleased him for Narcissus to relent, to thread arms around his neck and sink against him and kiss him back and tangle fingers in his hair, and grind their hips together-
Then Narcissus twitched away from him, looking alert and startled, and Rakovanite expected it was not because he’d seen some butterfly at his back. He didn’t feel anything that would set off his own alarms: no other powered signatures. But that only barely meant anything, anymore. Auras could be concealed. And often the troubles that manifested during the holidays didn’t have much signature of their own. He felt heated and alert in other ways, and the only signal Rakovanite had any comprehension of was Narcissus pulling away from him.
He just doubted Narcissus would look so startled to see ‘just a civilian.’
One chakram was pulled to his hand as Rakovanite twisted to face whatever had caused the senshi such alarm. An enemy? A monstrous creature? Or just… A ghastly-looking shimmering spirit, flickering as it moved through the trees. It didn’t approach them, didn’t even seem to acknowledge them. And it lingered only long enough for both of them to see it… Then it was gone.
Rakovanite’s immediate instinct was always that some senshi was using magic to distract them. Anytime anything strange happened, he had to assume it was probably some threat on his life. Or Narcissus’. But there was nothing else that spoke of danger. No rustling sounds, nothing coming at them through the trees, no auras picking up on his radar. He thought he felt normal, though it was always hard to say with magic… Definitely over warm in the summer air, with his skin still tingling and thoughts just a little muddled.
His weapon stayed in his hand, and they stood silently, waiting, watching for several more beats. …And nothing happened. Rakovanite glanced back at his fiancé, judging him for any off-the-mark behavior, before stating, “It seems like it was nothing… Just another seasonal magic experience from the city.”
He didn’t ask about what should happen next, but the hand not holding a chakram pinched and tugged at Narcissus’ hip, trying to pull him back in.

“I-I saw it before, too,” Narcissus admitted softly, voice having dropped several octaves at even the threat that someone or something might be close by. “Last time we were here together, after you l-left, I saw that same figure. I thought it was you- or at least s-something you were causing…” His magenta gaze darted to Rakovanite’s face, and then back out to where the fairy spirit had disappeared.
Because Narcissus had been quite new to the whole powered game, at that point. He hadn’t really known what agents were capable of, and even though his heart had definitely hoped and believed that no one would hurt him after he’d helped them, his mind had definitely still been wary. Probably in no small part because Rakovanite hadn’t looked thrilled or grateful or at ease through the entire transaction of their meeting.
He swallowed, pressed his tongue to the roof of his mouth and tried to calm the rapid flutter of his heart as Rakovanite tugged at his hip. “But n-nothing really came of it, then, either…”
And maybe nothing would. Maybe it was just some latent energy in the area…
But whether it was or not, they still had their own auras calling out to anyone who wanted to find them. The area wasn't secluded. It was still technically part of the forest trail, no matter how far back and removed from the main areas it was. ‘Nat’ and ‘Basyl’ would probably be safer out here than ‘Rakovanite’ and ‘Narcissus…’
And Narcissus could be rational, while Rakovanite was fueled mostly by want.
He notched away with an apologetic smile. “We should… should p-probably head back home.” Though with the state of their house, he understood that likely wasn’t a super appealing option.

Well, Rakovanite didn’t remember seeing anything of the sort. He supposed he could have decided it was completely inconsequential and just forgotten about it, or maybe the spirit only appeared when Narcissus was around, and Rakovanite catching a glimpse at it this time was just happenstance. But if the senshi had seen it before- three years ago- and nothing came of it, maybe there was nothing to be concerned about. …Rakovanite didn’t like ‘maybe’s when it came to Narcissus.
He huffed, still tugging very lightly at the other’s hips as if he might disregard the request since nothing seemed immediately dangerous or harmful, and he wasn’t enthusiastic about returning to their broken, stuffy, hot house. That lack of enthusiasm was unlikely to benefit his current exploits, and Rakovanite could feel a very particular sort of agitation coming on.
…But better to be safe, he supposed, even if it wasn’t exactly what he wanted in the moment.
They took an extra few seconds for Narcissus to recall his wraiths back to their Mirrorshards, then Rakovanite dipped to scoop the scrawny senshi up in his arms, lay another hasty, catching kiss on his mouth, and teleported them close enough to their house that Nataniel and Basyl could comfortably walk the distance, while still feeling secure no one would trace them to where they lived.
