[This is an area for us to start dropping Rathmore posts till Chi returns~]

Time Skip

January 20th Monday - 10am

Classes has been postponed due to Friday night's disaster.
Students were urged to stay in the dorms over the weekend while a clean up team was called in to clear the debris and exterminate any remaining threat.
The administration have finally given the all clear and a sense of normality can return to the campus. Though with the cause or possible perpetrator of the calamity still unknown, a heavy tension hangs in the air for some, while others simply attempt to move on with their lives.

- A student government meeting has been planned with some of the heads of staff for around midday to discuss the event an fill them in on what the administration has learnt of the incident so far.
- Some clubs are assembling to support each other in an attempt to return to the normal routine.

The clock in Houlihan's room obnoxiously ticked away the morning, only matched by the sound of of the woman's own incessant tapping of pen to paper. This was how she had spent her time since the event that dreadful Friday night, barely leaving to attend meetings with the frantic administration. She hadn't seen her room since she quickly changed and showered early Saturday morning when the majority of chaos had subsided. It showed too. Her usually perfect hair was unkempt and her make-up was bare minimum and appeared to have been applied at least a day prior. Dark circles hung under her eyes, and a blanket lay half folded on one side of the couch from where she had been briefly resting over the weekend. She did have a chance to see Liam for a moment to at least assure herself that he was mending, but the whirlwind romance had been essentially shelved due to the circumstance.

Houlihan sat glaring at the page directly, a large list of names and jotted notes, scrutinizing it as if intimidation would make the very ink give up its secrets. Other papers and documents were messily strewn over the desk in no apparent order; a few student and teacher files stacked off-angle on one corner, a sheet of paper with a large box roughly drawn upon it with various symbols, names and notes dotted inside and out, and a bound notebook.

Ash fell from the cigarette that burnt stagnant from her fingers and landed upon the corner of the page, but she paid it no mind and instead remained fixated on the notes. She wasn't supposed to smoke in the office, usually she would at least lean out the window, however with how thing were she cared even less for the minor rules and she had yet to be reprimanded. Honestly even if they threatened to fire her it was uncertain if she would actually care. She had been through some dark times at Rathmore, but this was something else.

The only thing that had kept her from resigning was her students and colleagues, she needed to stay for them. A few students had already come by, mostly to discuss their grief, which wasn't easy. There had been times she had consoled a student who had lost a friend or family member and needed support, but it was now close and personal. The very friends they are grieving she also knew and cherished, it almost broke her down more than once.

The memories and heartbreak washed over her again. Her hand dropped the pen and took up the whiskey glass, knocking it back to drown out the emotions. Back onto the desk, she refilled it from the decanter, itself running pitiful on its reserve, and left the replenished whiskey glass waiting to the side. Pen in hand again, she returned to the repetitive tapping upon the page. Her mind back on task.

After the fiasco that was the winter ball, steps were taken to ensure things like that never happened again. The school did what it felt necessary to find those involved. Security was bolstered and all that. Students helped out or remained on bedrest to recover from injuries they’d sustained during the attack. One in particular, however, refused to remain where she had been staying. She moved all of her belongings from the dorm she’d shared with her “fiance” and, with the help of a few of her peers, had them brought into her new residence. Her “friend” had welcomed her with open arms, but she refused to allow him to do more than give her a key. He had lost her trust, had hurt her worse than even her wicked Cousin ever had, and she could no longer stand to be around him. If she had any other choice, she’d have moved in with another in their dorm. Since she didn’t, she settled with remaining locked in her room and ignored anyone outside that wasn’t of the medical variety.

Two days passed with her routine being the same. Wake up. Eat. Shower. Let the nurse and the sweet blonde human check her wounds and administer whatever salve or potion they had chosen to use. Read. Eat. Ignore Blaise. Eat. Sleep. The loop altered a bit at the arrival of Miss Penny, the adorable girl more than welcome in Trin’s eyes. She was as innocent as they came, which meant she held no hidden agenda. Something she found refreshing and only made her enjoy the young witch’s company all the more. They spoke of nothing more than what is expected at a tea party, which helped the ebony haired witch more than the petite lolita would probably ever know. Especially when word came of others that wished to see her. Others that she wanted to keep as far from her as she could.

On the morning of the third day, she woke up to a rather pleasant surprise. The magic that the nurse and her assistant had been doing had finally closed her wound enough to allow her to move about freely. The stitches remained, of course, but she could finally shower without having to keep one leg outside the water or wrapped in plastic wrap! She snatched up a towel, tossed her outfit for the day on the bed, a pair of black baggy pajama pants and a forest green tee shirt, before hobbling from her hermit hole to shower off the dregs of the previous night.

It didn’t take her long to get clean, having the entire act down to a science by now. She’d learned that first night that, if she didn’t move fast, she’d have to deal with Blaise and his attempts to help. Now that she was fixed, she wouldn’t need anyone to do anything for her. Elated by the idea of getting back to some semblance of normal, Trinity made a mental note to thank those that helped her before slinking back into her room. She knew Blaise didn’t rise until far later in the day, so the morning was hers to do as she pleased. If she timed it right, maybe she could escape the dorm and take a walk. As much as she wanted to avoid certain people, the need for natural light called to her. Plus, she’d read every book in her possession at least four times in the last two days and she was dying to find something new. Or, at the very least, reach out to Harley and see how he was doing. The shy vampire was her only non-witchy friend, and one of the few in the school that appreciated literature as she did.

”I hope he is okay…I’m sure I would have heard something if he wasn’t. Why don’t I have his number?” She huffed out a breath as she contemplated her contacts list. There had to be someone on there that could reach Harley, right? Knowing the answer was a resounding NO, Trinity sighed and tossed the phone onto her bed. She shook out her damp locks as she began to get ready, knowing the nurse, or possibly Alice, was going to show up soon enough to check on her.

Everything turned to chaos Friday. Students that arrived back at the human dorm that night had ranted and raved about the horrific event they had seen to anyone who was around. Alice was glad she didn't have to witness it all herself, just hearing the panicked tales was hard enough. It left her with heavy guilt though, mostly for having left Leo and Silias out there to face it. Not that there was anything she could have done to help them specifically. Thankfully they had arrived back at the dorm later that night, apparently a vampire had helped escort the two out to safety and even went back in after Leo. Alice would have to find a way thank this Luke.

Feeling the need to help the greater cause, she had volunteered to help with some of the nursing duties. Many students were injured and would need help over the next week. She wasn't exactly medically trained, but she did know enough to clean, re-bandage wounds, and check for infection. This is what she was doing come Monday morning. With a shoulder bag full of various bandages, ointments and antiseptic, she stepped out of a student's room and into the hall. “Take care, Laura!” Alice called to the witch, she had taken a mauling to the arm, but there was no sign of infection and it was starting to heal, so after a fresh bandage she was good to go.

With another patient crossed off, she checked her list. 'Oh, Miss Blake next!' The poor woman had also taken a vicious mauling, this one though to the leg. Not to mention, she just seemed like she needed a friend right now. The witch was clearly bothered by something, and Alice was curious, but she would never be so rude as to pry. Best she could do was tend to her wounds and try to be a friendly face in these trying times.

Thankfully she had remembered Miss Blake's room change and headed off to the correct residence. “Good morning, Miss Blake.” She knocked lightly. “It's Alice, I'm here to change your bandage.” Reaching for the handle she slowly opened the door. The reserved girl didn't like to trespass, but letting herself in was sometimes necessary due to some students still being bed ridden. Peaking through, the living space seemed to be empty. Quietly stepping inside she thought she could hear movement from inside Trinity's bedroom. “Miss Blake?” She called out a little louder, and began moving towards the door, unsure if the witch was still laid up in bed. Hopefully the woman would at least be in better spirits today.

There was no sleep for Michelet on Friday night; there was just entirely too much to do. He could do nothing about the dead outside, but he would be damned if anyone died in the dorm because help didn’t come soon enough. At the heart of vodoun was the practice of medicine and Michelet’s room was packed to the gills with potent herb blends, poultices, and salves of his own creation. The bokor passed through the dorm like a ghost, checking up on the well-being of his fellow witches and tending to the wounds that he could. In a few more serious cases he supplied other students with his personal “painkillers”; a blend of medicinal herbs guaranteed to leave them too high out of their minds to feel any pain. There were faculty members on scene soon enough, but Michelet still could not relax. He did not fall into bed until he was exhausted to the brink of collapse. If anyone was going to berate him for drugging his fellow students they would have to do so in the morning.

Saturday morning was a little surreal. Despite the previous night’s sleeplessness, Michelet woke to the smell of tea brewing. For just a moment, with his eyes still closed, the warm smell enveloped his mind and seduced him into believing all was as it had always been. Miss Penny was brewing her tea, Elizabeth was trying to avoid eye contact with Buttons, Rowan was smiling in yet another of an endless collection of cozy sweaters, Trinity was gushing over how cute Penny was, and the duke was just happy the swamp rat had yet to arrive. No one had any greater concern than who they didn’t like but would tolerate over tea. But it was naught but a sweet illusion the bokor knew as he opened his eyes and reluctantly dragged himself out of bed. He was still exhausted, he did not want to move, but seeing at least Miss Penny starting her morning the same way she did every day would do his heart some good and bolster him for another round of checking up on his dorm mates. He would limit himself to the people he knew today; the faculty could handle the rest. He wanted to see Rowan, especially. He wanted to hold the plant witch until he couldn’t any more; that was definitely worth dragging himself out of bed for.

By Sunday morning Michelet was beginning to feel more like himself, though nothing else felt quite right. Elizabeth was avoiding him and would not tell him why. Trinity was avoiding the duke, even going as far as to move out of their shared dorm, and the duke was… well, he was still insufferable and a complete mess. Pitiable even, though Michelet hated to admit it. Trinity was avoiding him, too, but she was at least seeing Miss Penny and seemed to be on the mend as far as he could glean from his tea-loving friend and the nurse who checked in each day. Michelet still spoke to her through the door, not expecting a response but expressing well wishes and concern, but did not linger long as he still had no great love for Blaise. At least Penny was still her sweet self, though perhaps that should have worried him more. It was not possible that she was unaffected, but she simply brewed her tea and smiled for her friends as though it was just another morning. Rowan was still a bit shaken, but he was putting on his best face in spite of it all. Michelet offered what comfort he could, but he did not feel like it was even nearly enough. His own troubles clawed at his mind, but he ignored them. They seemed so small in comparison to everyone else’s suffering; he was fortunate enough to not even be injured in the attack and he had not lost any of the few people close to him.

Michelet rose to the smell of tea again on Monday morning and it gave him a small smile. The duke could have his wish today; the bokor was going to miss out on what had become his daily cup. There was something he needed to do and he needed to do it now before he could talk himself out of it. They were finally allowed to leave the dorm and there were no more excuses to avoid it. Michelet readied himself for the day and was quickly out of the dorm, avoiding speaking to anyone lest he change his mind.

The bokor made a beeline to a familiar room and knocked on the door to give Professor Houlihan a moment’s notice before he opened the door. But once he stepped inside he paused, taking in the state of the woman that was usually so impeccably put together, no matter the circumstances. She still looked as exhausted as he had felt on Friday night and he was not convinced that she had slept since then. A blanket on the couch at least suggested that she had tried to snatch a moment here and there, but Michelet did not doubt that most of her time was spent pouring over the documents that were currently overflowing the edges of her desk.

”I come at a bad time. You busy.” Michelet said the words, but his feet did not move. His head dropped and he glared at the traitorous appendages. What was he even doing here? He did not have a real problem; the professor did not have time for his personal issues. People had died! Did the school even know why or who was responsible? Was he really still just standing there, hoping she could carve a few moments out of her sleepless schedule for his petty concerns? Michelet closed his hands into tight fists, willing himself to turn around and walk back the way he had come, but his feet still did not move.

”Professah, I tink… I need tawk to somebuddy. An’ you de only one I tink I even could tawk to. Only one mebbe unnerstan’ an’ mebbe kin hep. But after what happen at de dance, ah feel like de biggest idyot even comin’ here wit mah liddle problem. I kin go… mebbe come bek when tings calm down. Ah’m sorry; I should no have bodder you. Jes… mebbe ‘member me when iz no so crezzy, oui?” Finally Michelet was able to shift his feet, turning toward the door. He had made the effort, hadn’t he? He had at least spoken to the professor. What else could he really do under the circumstances? Michelet hated how easily he could convince himself to just back down and let it stew for… how much longer? How long had it taken for him to admit that he had a problem in the first place? And he knew, deep down, that was the real reason that he was running away. He still did not want to admit to anyone but himself that he could not handle everything alone as he had always done. Just him and maman and no one else. But he could not talk to even maman about this.

In truth, Harley had not expected Sebastian to check up on him. Why would he? Why would anyone waste any more time on such a useless and disgusting little coward? He was nothing of importance or note. How fortunate he was to still be alive to worry about silly things like blood on his collar. It was such a waste, protecting him. Perhaps Beck and Sebastian both would have just left him in the midst of the chaos if they had truly known just how pathetic he really was.

But no matter how deep in his despair he felt, the snowy vampire stopped in his tracks when he heard the door to the common area open and close. He silently cursed himself as he stood there, motionless, both wanting to see Sebastian and convinced that the other vampire no longer wanted to see him. It had to have been so exhausting keeping him happy all evening and being stuck with him when the attack began. And really, what was he thinking wanting to cry to Sebastian about the things Beck had said? How selfish. Inconsiderate. He was such a bother.

Harley was still standing in the middle of his room, not even looking up when Sebastian had come in. He had only been going through the motions before, cleaning the blood from his collar, undressing fully, putting everything away, and changing into his powder blue pajamas. He had not quite made it into bed before he heard the door open and had remained frozen even as Sebastian approached him. When the younger vampire spoke, all that Harley could say in response was, ”I am sorry… I am… I am sorry…” His voice shook and he bit down on his lower lip in hopes that he could stop the tears from spilling again.

Sebastian did not blame him for anything, but how could he not? Harley could not understand it. But he did not need to understand to take comfort. He clung to his roommate, pressing his face to Sebastian’s chest to hide his anguish. His shoulders shook slightly and the tears began to flow again in spite of his efforts as Sebastian offered the comforting words Harley did not believe he deserved to hear. ”I’m sorry..” he mumbled into the now tear-soaked shirt. ”You are so kind… But I am just… I don’t… I don’t deserve it. Beck was right. Why did a useless creature like me even survive? Pathetic… I am… so pathetic.”

---

Harley could not help feeling some guilt as he sat in the space he shared with Sebastian, clacking away on his typewriter. Normally he would work on his writing in his room, away from where anyone could see or interrupt, but Sebastian had spent the entire weekend checking in on him and keeping up his spirits and the least that he could do was to actually come out of his room. Otherwise the guilt of taking up so much of his roommate’s time was liable to eat him alive! At least if he was in the common area it should be a little easier for Sebastian to spend time on other things, things that interested him, rather than putting all of his effort into being an emotional support for a fragile little…

No, he would not think like that. He would not keep heaping abuse on himself when Sebastian was kind enough to wrap him in daily support and comfort. Doing so would feel like he was calling the other vampire a liar. And it was not as though he thought the attention was less than genuine; there would be no need to ever kiss him if Sebastian just wanted him to stop crying and sulking. He may not have understood it, but somehow someone genuinely cared about him and it made him want to care about himself, at least a little. Enough to not ruin all the effort put into caring for him.

Though there was a darker side even to that. It felt wrong to be… happy. He had not forgotten the horror of the attack, he had not forgotten the fallen bodies with their anguished expressions and empty gazes, and he had not forgotten Beck’s anger or his own cowardice; each of these things ate at him whenever he could not distract himself thoroughly enough. But despite all of those things, Sebastian’s company genuinely made him happy. It was slow at first, it took all of his roommate’s effort just to calm him enough to sleep Friday night, but now? Now he felt content. And that contentment made him feel terribly guilty.

Still, guilty or not, he was grateful to Sebastian. He could not even imagine how destroyed he would be feeling if he did not have the other vampire’s support. Was it really so very wrong to be a little happy? He had someone who cared about him, someone who did not want him to suffer, someone he had begun to feel more than friendship for, by his side every day brightening his life. He just wished he knew what he could do for Sebastian in return. He somehow did not think cleaning up after the minor messes his roommate left behind really counted especially as he might have honestly done that anyway. He would have to think of something, some way to show his appreciation and be supportive in return.

In the meantime… Harley frowned over the page he was currently typing, scrutinizing every aspect of his writing. He wanted to have something light hearted to share, but that was not his usual forte. Would the Literature Club actually meet today? He did hope so. While he was honestly surprisingly content to remain in his dorm room with only Sebastian for company (Sebastian was wonderful company; who would need more?), it would be good to return to some semblance of normalcy. He did hope to see some familiar faces, alive and well. Though there was the fear, of course, that there would be familiar faces he would never see again.

"I don't care what you think, as long as it's about me. The best of us can find happiness, in misery..."
    ╔═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗

Once she had been certain Lexi wasn’t going to bleed out all over the bed, the Alpha busied herself with cleaning up the mess they’d made. It was busywork, really, but it was enough to keep her wits about her. She needed to remain in control if she was going to maintain the facade she was trying to create. One where she didn’t picture what could have happened if the beast that had gotten her date had been a few inches more to the right. Just giving it a passing thought was enough to threaten her resolve, so she shoved it aside and did what she did best. Lying through her teeth about how she really felt on the inside.

As the next few days passed by, Callie remained fixed to Lexi’s side through it all. She slept in a chair she’d dragged into the room, refusing to give in to the urge to snuggle with the adorable she-wolf for fear of hurting her. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to. Gods, she wanted nothing more than to curl into the other female and hold onto her for as long as she could. But she knew the instant she did, she’d break. And that was definitely NOT something she could allow. So, instead, she focused on taking care of the cutie in other ways. Ways that earned her a few pointed looks from the petite vampire she adored and the lovable goof that completely their little quartet.

The arrival of the third morning had her doing exactly what earned her those particular looks. Coffee, muffins, and a platter of what could very well be more breakfast foods than one individual could eat were covering most of the coffee table in the common area of Lexi’s dorm. Callie chewed on her bottom lip as she examined the mess, her hand reaching out quickly to slap away Luke’s hand as he reached for a donut before she could finish her expression. The exchange was one she had gotten used to after the first morning, though she still shot him a warning look. He knew how this worked, and no amount of that charming smile of his was going to have her changing her mind now.

”You aren’t allowed to have any before Lexi. Except for the coffee. How you can drink it like that is simply beyond me.” As she spoke, she made a face at the way he doctored up his morning java. The grin she got in return had her rolling her eyes and chuckling softly at him. As much of a pain in the butt he was, she couldn’t help but adore him. If it hadn’t been for him, and the rocker vamp at his side, she had no idea what she would have done in the aftermath. Her hands shook at the thought while she gathered up a bit of everything on a plate for Lexi, her fingers tightening their hold on the fork she was using to keep the bit of weakness from being seen by the others. She didn’t have time to fall apart. Not yet, anyway.

”I have to run and grab a few things from my room before the nurse gets here to start poking at her again. Will you guys keep an eye out while I’m gone? And, please, for the love of the gods do not let her leave.” Once more ignoring the look Iz gave her at the request, she stuck her tongue out at the pair of them before turning away with the plate she had piled with breakfast. She carried the semi-massive thing to the room she’d been occupying lately, knowing lightly on the door before peeking her head inside. Mismatched eyes scanned the room slowly, coming to a stop on the only female in the world that quickened her heart and twisted her insides into knots.

”Hey sleepyhead, it’s morning. Breakfast is done, you hungry?” Even as she spoke the words, she realized just how terribly annoying she probably sounded. She barely continued the urge to scoff at herself as she stepped further into the dorm. If Lex had a problem with it, Callie knew she’d tell her. Or, at the very least, she hoped she would.

Izzy couldn't let herself settle that night till she knew where Luke was. When the idiot finally reappeared she resisted from bowling him over with a hug and clobbered him on the arm instead, complaining that he was a doofus and took too long. Thankfully the vampire reported a successful mission, Silias's friend was found and Luke had shuffled them back off to the human dorm safely. She was grateful he didn't bring them with him, the werewolf blood in the air right now was enough to leave an uncomfortable itch.

After that they were basically forced to stay inside, which had it's annoyances. The small dorm room was cramped with the four of them and Lexi's original room mate Caleb, but they made do. Callie had taken an interesting shift though. The female alpha always was protective of their group of friends, but she seemed particularly anxious from the attack and didn't want the two vampires straying far. It was understandable, so even after sneaking out to their own dorm to change and grab a few things, they returned to the wolf dorm.

The weekend went on the same till the Monday morning roll around. Izzy had been rudely awoken from the couch at an ungodly hour while Mother-of-the-Year Callie decided to whip up another full breakfast spread. It was the only reason she was awake at 10am, and honestly getting sick of it. Grumpily she sprawled on the couch, flicking through an old mp3 player she dug out after her phone had been smashed. It was an outdated thing she picked up almost a decade ago and was lucky she didn't chuck it at some point.

The alpha had finally finished arranging her masterpiece and was berating Luke when Izzy stood and slipped the music player in her pocket. Everything was dull and aggravating, more than usual. Things had slowed down and almost become mundane, but there was still a sense of adrenaline that had never quite left her. The vampire felt half way between exploding and blinking into the void. She needed to get out of here.

Grabbing her jacket she throw it on and went to get one of the blood packs the two vamps had been storing in the fridge during their extended sleepover, when Callie basically asked her to dog sit. “She'll be fine while you're across the bloody hall for crying out loud!” Snapping a little, she slammed the fridge door. She understood Callie's concern, really she did, but the awkward sleeping arrangements and obsessive mothering was driving the grumpy Izzy around the bend. Adjusting the headphones to over her ears so she couldn't hear any objections, she made way for the door, yelling back when Callie stepped into Lexi's bedroom. “See ya later, guys.” And with that she was gone.

The vampire didn't get too many unusual looks leaving Clayton Hall, after the dog pile to get to anywhere safe, many races ended up hiding out in whatever dorm was the closest. There had been no incidents yet reported because of it, so the rules had relaxed somewhat. Exiting the Wolves dorm she headed for her own. The snow from the night of the massacre had mostly melted, and the clean up crew had made the place impeccable already, but she supposed that was probably thanks to magic. Still it wasn't easy stepping outside. She tried not to focus on certain places along her journey where the flashbacks lurked, mounds of snow with twisted bodies, vicious beasts with mouths full of gore. Eyes stayed fixed to the path beneath her feet and the music helped to drown out the thoughts.

Walking up to Judith hall, she finally let her sight peak up and saw another student making their to the door a few paces ahead. From the way she walked, it appeared she was one who had been more heavily injured than herself. “Hey, need a hand?” Moving up a few quicker steps behind the girl she reached out and opened the door for her. “Luna, right?” She only vaguely recognised her from being dorm neighbours, other than that Izzy didn't really know anything about her. The girl seemed quiet and most the time had her nose in a book, but that was all she had been able to observe. It was unfortunate she had been injured so badly, but at least she was still alive, the same couldn't be said for everyone. Suppose that makes her somewhat lucky, would that make Izzy even luckier? Silias awoke to birds chirping outside his window. Apparently he now belonged in a Disney movie. Having the world seemingly collapse on you would do that to a guy. You live a relatively normal life, till something life altering happens that sets you out on a quest; and of course we have to have another life altering event, an obstacle or climax of sorts. So here he was having his Disney moment, the Monday after what he now dubs as the Dawn-of-Destruction; but only it was concentrated to Rathmore. Kinda like how all Invasion movies happen in the United States and suddenly it’s the end of the world.

So in true Disney fashion, Silias gracefully stumbled out of the bed to open his window -the birds flew away of course, he wasn’t a true Disney princess- to smell the fresh -slightly stale, burnt, decaying, whatever you want to call it- air.

It had been two days since the Dawn of Destruction. He had trudged out of the hall that night sick to his stomach. They hadn’t found Alice. In any of the wreckage. With only the worst possible scenarios running through his head, he couldn’t begin to imagine how Leo had been feeling with his friend’s budding-more-like-fullblown interest in his roommate. With those thoughts swirling in his head he passed by Alice in his living room and said hi barely registering her presence. Only when he was safe behind his room door did he realize that the girl had been there. The two spoke briefly and he was grateful that she hadn’t seen any of the events that transpired. Since then, Silias had been holed up in his dorm with very little to entertain himself.

Monday had very… very slowly rolled around and students were finally being let out of their cages. He heard the main door open and shut a couple minutes earlier signalling that Alice had already left. Silias like many others were getting frustrated, he wanted to know the whats, whos, whys, and hows. But there were no answers, at least not until the student council meeting later that day. But until noon hit he was left to his own devices. And a Silias left to his own devices meant a Silias holed up in another cage, the library.

It took all but 15 minutes to make his way into the large oak doors of the Library. Searching through the catalogues it didn’t take long for him to realize that he had absolutely no idea where to start. Like a true academic he compiled a mental list of what he observed from the creatures: 4 legged, ugly, kinda smelled like death, bad breath.. possibly related to smelling like death, portals, pechant for flesh… also possibly related to the death bit, annnd nothing…

Armed with nothing more than his memory of the creatures and no idea what they were, he set about making his way through myths about 4-legged creatures, picking books along the way that he thought were relevant.

He found a comfy little corner to call his home for the next couple of hours. It took a little bit, a long little bit before he found an image, by change, in the margins of one of the reference books.

Hellhound.

Well at least he had a name, instead of were-beast, to call them by. So with that he found himself pursuing the H sections of the library. He found shockingly… little of the beast that caused so much destruction in his school. One book, in his search he had found only one book that had the barest scraps of information.

Silias found information on their basic biology, habits, pack formation etc. He was reading a particularly interesting bit about their pack, labelled as gangs, and how they roam like a pack but not a pack. More like a group of independent contractors that work together, but break up into chaos when the going gets good, when he bumped into something, wincing as the broken bones in his hand and upper arm rattled against his bandages. Yeah… He really needed to work on his self preservation skills.

He looked down to see a small girl. Her ginger hair was a similar shade to his own unruly mop. Glasses that sat high on the bridge of her nose, and books… that he undoubtedly knocked out of her hands. ”Oh s**t, I’m sorry, didn’t see you there.”

Silias reached down and picked up the books to hand it back to the girl catching glimpses of their titles. interesting. ”Portals huh? I assume you’re researching the craziness that happened at the dance too. Find anything interesting? He said smiling.

Friday night had been a long and painful one for Lexi, she had spent what felt like hours, tossing and turning in bed, trying to find a position comfortable enough to sleep in. Eventually, the scruffy she-wolf managed to drift off, only to be awoken moments later by one of the school nurses poking and prodding at her injuries. The scratches on her chest had been fairly superficial, but it came as no surprise to hear the creature had done quite the number on her shoulder. Her collar bone was broken and severely fractured in several places, and despite her friends' efforts, the deep wound was starting to show signs of infection, nothing life threatening but it would inhibit her normally naturally faster healing, leaving her laid up longer than most.

The rest of the weekend had been incredibly dull, between the long list of rules she had been given to ensure her shoulder had the best chance of healing cleanly, and the news that the whole student body would be kept in a state of lock-down until the grounds had been cleared, Lexi had quickly become restless. She hated being locked away, even with her injuries she would rather be up and about, getting on with things and trying to keep her mind off of the blood bath that had been the Moonlight formal, than be stuck within the same four walls day after day dwelling on the pain and trauma. Thankfully, for whatever reason, Callie had chosen to stay by her side, nursing her wounds and doting endlessly over her the entire time, it was a welcome distraction. Even at night, when the alpha could have easily made her way across the hall to sleep in her own room, she had instead stayed at Lexi's bedside. Izzy and Luke had stuck around too, and honestly, she was grateful, if it hadn't been for her new friends, the she-wolf would have likely gone stir-crazy before the weekend was up. It was Caleb, her roommate who she really felt sorry for, waking up on Saturday morning to a dorm full of people that were pretty much stuck there until further notice.

Monday morning started much like the previous days, a light knock on her bedroom door, and the soft words from Callie as she entered, had Lexi slowly rousing from her painkiller-induced slumber. “Mornin'.” She yawned, her tail already wagging beneath the sheets, as she shuffled to sit herself up in bed and slip her arm into the sling she had been provided by the medical team. “Sure, I could eat.” She chuckled, a sleepy grin plastering her face as her tired vision focused on the sight of the alpha entering with her oversized plate of breakfast snacks. At this point, Lexi had stopped questioning Callie's odd behavior and had decided to just allow herself to enjoy the affection the woman offered while it lasted, but that was still way too much food.

It was then that the she-wolf's ears twitched with curiosity, it was the sound of Izzy wishing them Farewell and leaving through the front door. “Huh? Wait...Are we allowed out now?” Her eyes filled with hope but her ears dropped cautiously as she questioned the alpha. One of the things she wanted the most right now was to get out of this damn building, and it wasn't like she couldn't walk or anything, “You think we could maybe get out for a bit?” Callie had been pretty strict when it came to the rules of Lexi's recovery and 'plenty of bed rest' had been near the top of that list, still, it had been three days now. “I'm feeling a lot better today, just a little stiff is all.” She did her best to defend her case while twisting and tilting her head in an attempt to stretch out the joint a little without pulling the stitches in the still-healing wound.

Anya spent most of the remaining Friday night held up with Sophie, Jane, and Teddy. That's how most the weekend also went with the restrictions on leaving the dorms. She wasn't exactly complaining, having her friends around was comforting after everything they had been through. Callie popped by a few times, giving disgruntled looks towards Sophie while she grabbed a few things or went to change. It seemed as though her room mate had been staying over at her new friends. This wasn't overly surprising, most social groups apparently felt the same as they did and were keeping their friends close by.

The eagerness to research into the event was still ever present for the curious wolf though, and online resources would only go so far when it came to magic. To quell the itch she brushed up on her Rosen-bridge theory and quantum entanglement, the core basis of the modern wormhole theory. It didn't have all the answers she needed, not even close, but it did give at least a fundamental understanding from a scientific perspective.

Her driven research continued till Monday morning. As soon as the lock-down was lifted Anya was out the door with Sophie in tow. She never specifically asked Sophie to come, but the vampire gave the impression she wasn't about to let Anya walk around alone and Anya was thankful for the company. Their destination was the library. One of the reasons the scientist was so interested in attending Rathmore was due to her fascination with magic and the University's extensive library on the topic. Surely it would have the information to enlighten her.

After arriving and hurriedly throwing her bag onto an open table, she headed straight for the stacks. The beasts were of some interest biologically, but it was the dimensional portal that really peaked her scientific interest. After browsing the shelves and checking a few books that appeared to have no value, she stumbled upon a book titled 'Conjuration and Teleportation with Portals and Gateways.' This had to have something of use. Pulling it off the shelf she glanced through the introduction and contents, much of the magical jargon and glazed over fundamentals of magic made it more difficult for her to understand in comparison to the usual scientific text book, but from what she could gather this was what she was looking for. A particular chapter on 'Alternate Planes' drew her attention immediately, was that where the mysterious portal led?

Flipping back to the beginning she turned to head back to Sophie with her nose still in the book, when an abrupt bump knocked her off step with the hefty book flying out of her hands and slamming onto the floor. The perpetrator immediately cursed and began apologising. Adjusting her glasses, she glanced up to see the red-headed boy. Courteously he reached down to return the book to her only to be curiously caught by its title. “Indeed, I'm interested in how it was created and where it may have led.” Taking the book from his hand she flipped back to the front and skimmed the introduction again. “I've not found anything yet, but I'm hoping to find some answers.”

She turned back from the stacks and began heading out with her nose in the book again, but she couldn't deny she was curious on what the stranger was researching and if he had come to any solid conclusions or revelations of information. “Have you discovered anything?” The question was asked seemingly to the book with the boy merely in earshot, but it was in fact her awkward way of inviting him to further conversation. After all, if he was researching into similar elements then combining their efforts as a think-tank would be far more effective. Reaching the table she stopped and turned briefly back to the boy in momentary thought. “Are you a witch?” Blunt and straight forwards as always.

After a shower Jane would stay up the entire night with Sophie. Sitting up right, not far from Teddy where she could see everyone. Any assurance of sleep wasn't really possible in her state of mind, if Sophie were to question her Jane would inform "I can't sleep." she'd only do her best to keep still and supress for the night to not set off the others with her anxiety, knowing they'll bounce off what she feels. For one mere moment she'd give to Sophie and continue "It isn't because of you...this time." couldn't let her completely think otherwise, but Sophie wasn't a problem tonight and had infact helped them. Despite the wound Jane had suffered and patched, knowing Sophie could of taken her easily and easily have it swept up into the tragedy was enough to let Jane know that Sophie was someone that could be trusted...someday. Jane couldn't exactly feel it 100%, it was hard being human in this world, but Sophie is better today than she was in the past. This Sophie was good.

                            - - - - - - - - - -

Some days had passed, Jane managed to catch up on sleep in the off schedule in her cousin's quarters understandably not wanting to be left alone and have every wolf nearby to sound the alarm if something would go amiss. Today was Monday and Jane felt today was a day to stop brooding and help others to do the same, today should be a fun day to forget dismemberment.

She had enlisted Teddy's carrying help and rented some equipment from the school for the day to set up in a corner near the gym with an attempt to get the word out through some of the social media about The Rainy Day Club hosting some games for those to play for the afternoon. A couple screens were set up, one for an online join in with your device to play sort, a 'rock band' style video game for those to take turns playing, a bounce house and a small table for an easy dice game to help others wait for a turn.

Jane had a small microphone and a speaker set to help communicate if the crowd got too large, but Jane wasn't hoping for a smaller turn out. It didn't take too long for the bounce house to inflate, she'd move over towards Teddy "Alright, now get in there and test the bounce." giving him a slap on the shoulder and a wide grin. It's supposed to be a nice day.

Whoever said that vampires healed fast lied. Well… that’s not entirely true. Vampires heal fast… as long as they aren’t bitten by a were-beast. Friday’s events were anything but the fantastical imagery her mind had hoped for. After Yanis had so kindly deposited her back into their dorm, they had the wonderful company of another beast. Being bitten and attacked within minutes of each other and having spent the weekend locked up in her dorm with pain that seems as if hell’s fire has been directly imbued into her veins were the last activities that Luna had in mind. So it was safe to say that Luna was a grumpy bat.

She didn’t know much about what happened that night. Whispers in the common room claimed a portal appearing out of nowhere in the middle of the dance hall and beasts like the one that attacked her coming out of it. Once everything was settled, med staff made their way through the dorms offering aid to those that needed it. They had asked then, what had decided to take a chow on her leg, she claimed that one of the beasts entered her dorm. Not an entire lie.

She wondered where Caleb was after everything had happened as she trudged her way through the final remnants of sludge that remained of the week before. Luna had injured him while trying to escape while the beasts roamed. She wondered if she should pay him a visit later in the day.

After a long wait in Rathmore’s overcrowded med bay, having been told to pay a visit to change her bandages, she made her way back to Judith hall. As her steps increased so did her limp. She considered getting a cane for the time being to make these treks a little easier.

“Hey need a hand” A voice called out behind her. Luna stiffened, not used to being addressed. She turned back to see a blue haired vamp reach around her to open the door. “Um right, yes, thank you; and you’re… Izzy? Luna smiled tentatively.

Luna hobbled in through the door just about ready to bolt it back to the safety of her room. Instead, she clenched and unclenched her hands, plastered a smile on her face and turned. “Um,” she cleared her throat, “D-do you have any plans now. I’m heading to the common room.” Luna pointed down the hall. That sounded normal enough right?... Right?

Location: Library ➤Company: A girl ➤Mood/Thoughts: How many times can I sat "the girl" before it becomes rude?

And this is why they say to look up while walking, He mused. Maybe they should make glasses that let you see both what’s in front of you and what you’re reading. Why hasn’t anyone thought of that? Surely, there would be a decline in bumps. Or maybe he could convince a witch to give him 360 degree vision. That was something they could do right?

“If I could… and possibly been a little more reckless, I would have jumped in with those things. First hand evidence is alway the best evidence of course,” he chuckled at his own joke. Sure he might jump back into a bloodbathed room with nothing but a broken table leg in his defence, but Silias wasn’t stupid enough that he would jump through a mysterious portal… maybe… it probably was a good thing he was only human being the only thing that kept the loose screws in his head from fully falling out.

The girl began to walk away with her nose in her book. 360 degree vision, witches, note to self. “Well if you find anything interesting don’t hesitate to share. Name’s Silias by the way,” he whisper-shouted at her departing figure. Silias turned himself to go back to his corner having found something of interest when he heard her speak again.

Hmm? Silias turned back towards the girl holding his book up. Its cover had long been faded with only bits and pieces of it remaining. At least an illustration on page 64 had been accurate to his search. “Oh… Yeah I think so. Not a witch by the way, just plain old human” He followed her, accepting her silent-awkward invitation to join her.

Silias glanced at his book, light tapping the spine on the table. “It’s not much, really nothing to go off of at all… but… it something. He tilted to look back at the girl. “Let me just clear up my table and I’ll come join you.”

He made swift work of clearing his corner. A little sad that he was leaving its comfort. It truly was a nice little nook. Silias kept two reference books just in case, before making his way back to the girl.

Silias pulled back the chair across from her, getting comfortable. They, he -he wasn’t sure about her- were going to be there for a while. “From what I was able to glean, those demo-dogs are called hellhounds.” He pushed the reference book with the illustration in the margin that first led to his discovery for her to see. “I haven’t come across them before in any of my research before. Have you?” He glanced at her briefly before skimming the page he had been reading. “They’re bite isn’t venomous but can cause infection?... Just to be sure you didn’t get bit did you?” Silias looked back at her worrying that he might need to shuttle the girl off to the med bay.

It was the worst weekend ever. So many people were scared and hurt and stuff and that wasn’t even counting the people that died. It made Teddy scared, too. He was a little scared every time he went to sleep or left one of his friends alone or anything. And nothing was okay again until he could see them all again. He worried about his brothers too, but they made sure to come and see him since they were worried, too. Teddy felt a little bad; Tristan got hurt while he and Silver were still out looking for Teddy. Silver was mad cause Tristan got hurt protecting him, but Teddy was just sad that either of them got hurt. Sure he got hurt a little bit too, but only a little bit and he had Anya to take care of him and Anya was the best smartest girl in the whole school. He made sure to tell Tristan and Silver all of that so they didn’t have to worry about him. He was okay because his friends were okay!

The worst weekend ever wasn’t all bad, really. His brothers made it back and that was important. And he got to spend so much time with his friends, even Jane and Sophie who usually stayed in other dorms. He didn’t see Callie a lot, but he did get to see her and that was always a good thing. Teddy didn’t do a lot all of Saturday, though. He was still kinda ouchy and Anya would give him her best serious don’t do that face if he tried to run around or scratch his injuries or anything. It was even better than his mom’s don’t do that face! Anya was really good at that! It was kind of boring doing nothing, but he didn’t like the don’t do that face. It meant he did something that made somebody he cared about all worried and that was bad.

But! But! Teddy was feeling so much better after doing all of that nothing! So listening to Anya was a good idea, but he knew that because Anya is super smart. Sunday was still kind of boring, but he could do stuff and it didn’t hurt! He ran up and down the stairs and through the halls and stuff so much that day! But he would get worried and keep coming back to check on his friends. They were all stuck inside, but Teddy still wanted to see them for himself and know they were okay.

Monday was good and bad. They could finally get out! Super good! But he couldn’t just nose around the dorm to know that they were all okay. That was a little bad. Anya had gone to the library and Teddy almost followed her, but Sophie was already going to do that. Sophie was super strong and she like-liked Anya and they were girlfriends and stuff, so it was okay if he didn’t follow Anya as long as Sophie was there. Sophie wouldn’t let anything bad happen to Anya. And that one time Sophie hurt Anya wasn’t her fault and Teddy was sure she was super sorry about it and wouldn’t let it happen again ever, ever. So Anya was okay. But Jane needed to be okay, too!

Making sure Jane was okay was super easy today because Jane needed help moving stuff anyway and Teddy could move stuff! He maybe tripped over his feet like one time, but he still moved stuff and nothing got broken! And! And Jane was safe and nothing bad happened yet at all and that was good. And! THERE WAS A BOUNCE HOUSE! FOR BOUNCING IN! And Jane wanted him to test the bounce?! ”Yay! Bouncy Bounce!” Teddy was quick to kick off his sneakers… and immediately tripped over them in his eagerness to get to the bounce house. He landed on his belly with an ”Oof!” but scrambled back to his feet in no time, cheering with excitement as he charged into the bounce house to bounce with all of his hyper pooch might.
