When had Erytheia first noticed them? For the starseeds, the answer was quite simple. He’d found one on his first visit back to his wonder after the Star Mount Beacon had activated. It had just been floating there, plain as day. As if finding a starseed on Erytheia was the most natural thing in the world. Well, at least according to his ancestor Yuki, it was. Yuki had told him what the purpose of his wonder was a long time ago now. It was a resting place for starseeds on their journey back to the Galaxy Cauldron. It was one of the last stops, too. Yet even the ghost couldn’t tell him where Erytheia was in comparison to it. But the emphasis had always been just that — was. And that’s what brought him to the Moon Wells. They had actually been one of the first things he had found on his wonder, he had just not known it at the time. There had been little torii gates spread about the vastness of the windswept wonder, most in a state of ruin. Perhaps that is why he had never noticed what they were actually for. It wasn’t until life returned back to his wonder that the water did, too. ——— Erytheia spared no time in bringing his charge straight to the source. What was seen by Solaris was a similar scene that he’d shown the others. Except with one main difference. Each Moon Well had a torii gate, a stone circle and a crystal clear pool of water. Each varied in their own way, but they were all instantly recognizable. It was almost as if by design. But there was a glowing light at the center, hovering just over the pool. The light was purple-red. “Ever since the Beacon lit after placing the Code Piece inside, these have been appearing at Moon Wells all over Erytheia.”And as you approached the edge of the rippling pool, you could see now what it was. A starseed. “I need your help guiding this starseed back home.”Quote: If you are playing a starseed, the primary way for it to communicate with your character is through the Moon Well. Starseeds cannot speak and can’t directly answer questions. They can, however, show you scenes from their life in the reflection of the water. If you are not playing a starseed, the same applies, except that the starseed will go on Erytheia’s turn. Erytheia can assist in interpreting what the starseed is trying to convey. Ultimately, it’s up to your character to determine the message it is sending and help it model ready to move on. ✪

Traveling to a knight's wonder... this was a first for her. Funny, she'd been figuring Abzu would be the first. But when the message had flashed on her senshi phone of a knight asking for help with starseeds...
She'd responded soon as she could, offering aid.
Her arrival was uneventful, listening to any instruction Erytheia gave. Solaris knew extremely little of Knights of Cosmos--how common was it for starseeds to linger at their domains?
Head tipped back, she wasn't sure what to make of the large wooden gateway or the pool of water beneath. The starseed above the water, though, was unmistakable. A Moon Well? That the Code piece had triggered these starseeds to appear was interesting, but she tucked the information away for the time being.
She wasn't here to help with the why, she was here to help... the starseed.
Slowly, she approached the edge of the pool, crouching down low to be closer to eye-level--so to speak, anyway--with the starseed. A soul. Whose? No idea. Didn't matter.
"You're a long way from home, aren't you, friend?" Her voice was gentle as she watched the purple-red starseed. Glancing over her shoulder to Erytheia, she frowned slightly as she asked, "How... do you usually guide starseeds out of here? Do you just... talk to them?"

At the question from the senshi, the starseed shined and hummed. Did it understand her words or was it responding to the gentleness of her voice? “This is the first time starseeds have been found on Erytheia since I have been its knight.” Erytheia explained. “However, the former knight, my ancestor, Yuki, said that many starseeds appeared here in his time.”Erytheia had hoped as a Deep Space senshi, Sailor Solaris may have once been to or heard of this wonder. Perhaps it was too much to wish for. Yuki had said they this outpost was quite remote and that he had rarely, if ever, gotten visitors. “It was the duty of Erytheia to provide a resting place for starseeds on their way to the Galaxy Cauldron.”He looked forlornly at the starseed. “And to guide them, if — like this starseed — they are not yet ready to return.”As if by his words, the starseed glowed brighter for a brief second and it sent a ripple though the crystal-clear water of the Moon Well. “It may respond to you better than it has to me. Try taking to it.”✪

Former knight? Ancestor? Her attention snagged on that briefly, before she tucked it away to question later. There were still plenty of things she either never learned in her long life... or just... forgot. But a chance to talk to, or about, people from the era she'd once been part of--or maybe closer to it?--was... something she couldn't help but chase after.
The starseed was the present concern, though, and she focused again on it with a soft hum. The fact the soul seemed to respond to Erytheia mentioning not all starseeds were ready to return yet to the Cauldron... didn't escape her. "You've been resting here a bit too long then, huh? How come?" Resting her elbows on her thighs, she cupped her chin, head tilting slightly as she observed the starseed. "You'll be reborn, you know. I don't know how long that takes... I hope not too long."
She was babbling, but Solaris didn't think anyone--the starseed or the Knight--would especially mind. Her voice was gentle, gaze unfocused as she thought back centuries. To people and places she could barely remember. Most, she couldn't even picture any more. Except Annika--the fact the Chaos had taken on her sister's face and voice had been... useful.
"I've got people I hope to see again someday. Family, friends... even people I didn't like, I hope they're reborn into happier lives." Her eyes closed, and she smiled. "I suppose I might not even recognize them. They wouldn't be Solarians again. But... I still keep hoping for it, you know? To run into them again. I think... I just want to know... that they're okay." She could feel the burn of tears at her eyes, and swallowed thickly. "I want them... to live happier lives... even if they're without me. I'm okay with that. I just want to know. That it all worked out. Even if I lost them, the people I used to know... I'll never get them back. My parents. My siblings. My friends. They'll never be who they once were. But I hope they're happier."
Her eyes opened, focusing again on the purple-red starseed as tears rolled silent down her cheeks. "...are there people you want to see again? Or people you miss? Is that why you're still here, friend?"

“They will all be reborn again.”A ripple fell over the water and at it Erytheia seemed to be at ease again. He couldn’t help but feel a tinge of guilt when these things didn’t respond to him, but would for those he brought here. At Solaris’s question, the starseed suddenly blinked in its constant light. A woman appeared on the surface of the pool. Her face was like the ripples in the water, wrinkled and wise. She looked forlornly into the distance. Across the way, there were lights. Bonfires, blazing in the night. Voices of those celebrating could be heard in the distance with much carousing. The woman shook her head. She looked sadly into the distance. Her eyes were not human but bright and animal-like. ✪

The words from the Knight were sweet, and she looked over her shoulder to give him a smile and small nod of thanks.
Light out of the corner of her eye made her look back to the starseed, rubbing the back of her hand against her eyes. Making sure what she was seeing was genuine, and not.... some blurry figment.
A woman. A woman who'd seen many years, Solaris thought. She wondered the stories those wrinkles told. Following her gaze, her eyes widened at the.... bonfires? A celebration. Glancing between the woman and the distant lights and voices, she considered.
"...is this a specific celebration? I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with it." Not that she was sure the spirit could speak. "Or is it... celebrations with you loved ones you miss?" Erytheia said these starseeds wouldn't move on. Clearly something was keeping them here. Regrets? Longing? She let out a slow breath. Things they might never be able to access again, depending on the specifics.

As if fast-forwarding to answer Solaris’s question, the scene changed. It seemed to be in the same spot as before, but now the older woman was not alone… There was another figure standing over her. The person was younger by many years. She did not slump over like the first woman nor did she have the tell-tale lines of age on her face. Yet, even so, there was something familiar about her. Her eyes were the same as the old woman’s — animal-like and bright. She wore the armor of a warrior, yet it was covered by a robe as if she had no intention of needing it anymore. The woman looked up at her without fear, but recognition, acceptance. Their eyes were the same, the resemblance unmistakable now. They were related. There are words, but you cannot hear them. Neither seems like anything but casual conversation. But then the younger draws a sword. The older does not so much as flinch. She stares at the blade as if she had known it all along. The younger stabs the older through the chest and the vision fades to a deep red. ✪

Solaris watched the scene unfold in silence. The younger figure that looked so similar to the woman, garbed in armor--yet covered. Was she no longer a soldier? Or was she acting in a different capacity now?
A blade. Unheard words. The sword was used.
Solaris let out a long breath through her nose.
"...was this a sentence for a crime? Or how your people responded to old age?" Both sounded barbaric in their own ways, but she wasn't judging. They didn't look like Earthlings, and Solaris wasn't going to assume to know which of countless worlds they hailed from. She more wanted to know what about this memory was holding the spirit to this place. All she could go on right now was to try and better understand the context.
"You didn't seem surprised to see the sword, or that your relative was holding it," she pointed out gently, and this time she was assuming the familiar look of both women was due to kinship.

“The image is clearing.”The red color of blood had stayed for more than a minute. It was as if the pool was blood. The red had faded to purple before clearing. But now there was a new image. There was a gravestone, alone and solitary. The black rock was in a strange shape, unlike Earth headstones. Still, it seemed to have writing engraved on it similar to what a human may do in remembrance. ‘Here lies the last senshi of —— Slain by her daughter —— Who ascended the throne as the new Queen with power given from the black star, —— a power chosen by the people and not decreed from Destiny’Some words are hard to read as if some words are in a language you don’t understand. ‘Her people, ——, chose the their own path, —— May Chaos reign eternal.’✪

The display of death was... unsettling, but not exactly unexpected when dealing with a starseed. It was someone who passed on. That means death. That this woman suffered a more violent death made her all the more sympathetic to her, but Solaris could only watch as the scene continued to shift and evolve.
A gravestone? She'd seen the practice here on Earth, though hadn't encountered it among her own people. That she could read the engraving intrigued her--perhaps the work of the starseed?
Little by little, her blood began to run cold. A senshi. The woman was a senshi. Killed, by not only her daughter, but... an agent of Chaos.
Solaris swore softly in her native tongue.
"You were like me, then. A senshi. A Queen, too, if I'm understanding that correctly. Only for your daughter to end your life after gaining a power from Chaos. I can't... begin to imagine what you've felt during all of this."
She reread the engraving a few times, and during her last reading murmured aloud, "Who ascended the throne... with power given from the black star, ... a power chosen by the people and not decree from Destiny." Solaris clicked her tongue, her wings flexing and feathers fluffing up in growing agitation. In the last few centuries of her peoples' existence, a similar sentiment was popular among many of the remaining, dwindling settlements and camps. That their senshi wasn't enough to actually protect them, that she'd failed them as their world's guardian. They'd been unsuccessful in killing her, at least.
"Were your people cut off from other worlds, too? Why did your people--your daughter--turn to Chaos?"

“‘Why’ is always a hard question for these wayward seeds, I’m afraid.”The scene changed again. ‘ Happy 21st Birthday, Princess ——!’ The sign was painted in pretty colors over her door and, yet, the woman did not seem happy. She returned to her room, barely looking at the balloons and ribbons behind her door. She sat in her bed and looked up at the ceiling, her eyes starting to well into tears. An old book lay in her dresser. It was open to a single page. ‘ Senshi.’ That word is clear, but the rest is hazy. You have to read to the bottom before you see words you recognize again. ‘ Awaken’. Then another. ‘ Before’. And then a number. ‘ 21’. The mother is there again and are the eyes that are reading the book now. She closes it and sighs. He daughter is long gone, but the bedroom looks the same. She never changed it since. She didn’t have the heart to. Her daughter’s heart had already been broken once. ✪

Solaris glanced back over at the Knight. "It's at least giving me more info, but noted."
Focusing on the scenes that shifted in the pool, she watched the events unfold however many years--decades, centuries, maybe just days--ago. And felt her lips press tight as she grimaced. She couldn't read all of the book the images were showing her, but... she could piece things together.
"...your daughter hoped to awaken as a senshi. When that didn't happen by twenty-one, she... turned her back on you? Embraced Chaos to gain power instead?" The dismay of not awakening to such magical powers... she could comprehend it, to a degree. Kyrie thought of how often she'd wished Annika had been Sailor Solaris, instead of herself. Later in life, hearing people hiss that any other would be better wasn't... uncommon.
Surely, earlier in her life, there were probably plenty of people who whispered behind closed doors that they would have been a better guardian of Solaris, or someone else they knew.
But for things to go to this degree? To gain power from the black star...
"Did you ever see that black star?"
Shifting about where she crouched, she looked again at the man behind her. "...how, exactly, is talking about these painful memories helpful to these souls?"

“‘How’ I can answer.”Erytheia looked over the Moon Well as if searching it for something. ‘What’ it was hard to tell. There was a part of Erytheia that wanted that answer — longed to know ‘why’. But he had been doing this long enough now, in this life and another, that he knew answering that question was not why they were here. There were many things about these starseeds he did not know. And Yuki had warned him not to question. So, this time, he knew to look for the butterfly and saw it first as it came to rest on the starseed. “These starseeds come here to rest. That is true. But sometimes the greatest relief a starseed can have here is simply to tell their story one more time.”The knight held his hand out to touch the butterfly — translucent and glowing a purple-red. “Do you know what this butterfly means? I did not when I first saw one.”✪
