"The rat race." A scramble for individuality. A pursuit of happiness in a world built upon greed, and avarice. People doing everything they can to stay decent. Mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters. Politicians, teachers, fire brigades, an endless variety of purpose and predilections. Beneath the surface there's the criminal underworld, where society believes the worst of the worst lingers, and terrorism is the greatest threat against the masses. Yet behind the Masquerade that is human civilization...there lies another world. Another civilization. A realm of myth, monsters, madness, and mysticism. A society of intricate politics, never-ending wars stretching back beyond the dawn of time, and creatures older than light itself.

    The World of Darkness.

Vampires exist. In the Western World, they call themselves "Kindred," and they are the puppet masters of your known reality. They rule on high by fulfilling the role--or operating from within the shadows--of presidents, prime ministers, religious figures, and celebrities. They have lived behind the veil of mankind since long before humans were still huddled around the fire. They have accomplished this by adhering to strict and universal laws of conduct. They call these laws, "The Masquerade," and to break these laws is punishable by Final Death.

Werewolves exist. In the Western World, they are called "Garou," and they are the nomads of society. The bikers. Truckers. Drifters. Wanderers. Wayfarers and pathfinders. Garou worship the spirit of mother earth--called Gaia--and though they are vastly outnumbered by Kindred, the Vampires do not dare to wage war against their beast-cousins. The Garou do not have a great society, nor do they have much in the ways of politics. But they are respected; and they are feared.

Changelings haunt your dreams. Once called "Fae," and later referred to derogatorily as "Milklings." All Changelings are born to humans. Before they realize their heritage, they live in a half-reality, catching glimpses of "The Dreaming" (the realm of magic which Fae can see into) that never fully realize themselves until the Changeling experiences "The Chrysalis" (an act of transformation taken place during a dream). Once, a baptism was necessary to extinguish the fae soul, but nowadays, consistent banality is often strong enough to undo a child’s faerie soul through other means (the misery of depression, normalcy, mediocrity, a life unfulfilled will wittle away a Changeling's power). There are exceptions, as some Changelings forced themselves on humans, casting out their souls and overtaking their lives. Within their faerie selves, all Changelings are servants of an element or force, an archetype that reflects their Changeling and Human halves. This act of fealty towards the powers they serve is called their "Legacy." Acting according to their Legacy grants a Changeling power.

So, the world has always been. Kindred, Changelings, and Garou walking silently in the shadows of mankind since time immemorial. The Changelings exist on the border of "The Dreaming," and reality. They are content to themselves. The Garou are content to live, to exist, worshipping their mother Gaia, and preserving what few of them remain. The Kindred, on the other hand, are constantly at odds with one another. The Camarilla is only one of three large factions, and each has their own beliefs. However, there is one belief that some Kindred share with each other, regardless of their political affiliation.

Some Kindred believe in "Gehenna." The day of reckoning. The day when their great forefather--Caine, the First Vampire--will rise from his grave hidden somewhere in the world.

"And with him shall rise his First Childer; and you will know them by their terrible screams. And in their risen death they will be insatiable; devouring man and monster alike. Swallowing the world until it is only they who remain, and the world is solemn darkness."

Most Kindred dismiss this as wild fanatical theory. That there is no "Caine," no ancient sleeping elders, and that their "curse" is nothing more than a mutation, or natural evolution. However...in present day 2022...something causes your undead blood to stir.

Welcome to WoD: Gehenna! This is a World of Darkness themed freeform roleplay. I have removed the dice system, the character sheet system, and everything else that involves math! I have done this because I wanted a WoD story where somebody could walk in--having no idea about White Wolf, or anything like that--and join up after just a bit of reading. Let's face it, there aren't that many die hard White Wolfer's left out there, and we've gotta make some compromises if we're gonna keep the legacy alive! With that in mind, we will implement the "dice roll system" whenever we encounter a scenario where feats of chance seem more practical than debate. Okay? Okay!

    || Prologue: Night at the Museum ||

  • New Orleans, Louisiana.

Many would say the throbbing heart of America’s cultural influence. It’s survived it’s fair share of disasters and for good reason. The soul of the people is strong here. The jovial nights of color and soulful music left any tourist feeling revitalized. It was like dipping your toes into the hearts and minds of so many who’d come before. A truly beautiful city. But every light casts a shadow; and the shadows here run deep.

The Cabildo museum right on Jackson square. A remarkable structure filled with history that stretched back to the conception of this country; and back further still. Most days the museum was closed by 3:30pm; just like it had been closed today. Or so the public thought. Yet the curator of the museum is not what she seems. The young Tremere who owns the establishment is a creature of the night. To spread his influence, he has extended invitations to certain individuals throughout New Orleans.

These invitations claim that this young Kindred has discovered something wonderful. He has come into a most marvelous piece. A priceless artifact that he stumbled across in a dig just outside of Afghanistan. Something he believes that everyone in the city will find to be of interest. The Camarilla has taken notice; and decided to send a representative on their behalf. Club owners. Ambassadors of branch factions visiting the city. All Kindred…all monsters. You’ve been invited.

….Come on down to see the show….

Wiping her hands with the edge of her apron she smiled. She was excited for the evening to come. There was a big event tonight that her friend had invited her to at the museum. Which in her lifetime of living in New Orleans, the place always locked their doors at 330pm. So to be able to snag an invite to some after hours party was killer. “Hey Steph, what do you need me to do before I bounce?” she asked, hugging onto her co-barista. The one that had blessed her with the half shift. “If you could prep all the grounds for the cold brew as well as the morning taps that would be nice. Tom caught wind of you abandoning ship for some party. So he did breakfast prep when he was bored.” “Sick, I should have that done in thirty, if you need a hand holler!” She said before dipping back into the backroom.

tab tab It took her an hour to get ready, but as she returned to the cafe she grinned as two metal cups were set onto the counter. “Looove youuu Steeph!” Charlie laughed. “Hey, you were the one who said you would cover for me when I take off for vacation. Got to get all those banked points while I can.” Charlie shrugged. “True, but honestly. When Mardigras rolls around, we are the best for the overnights. We need to find that mannequin again. To hold all the beads people lose when they stop in for coffee.” she laughed while picking up the cups. “Thank you for the drinks. Wish me luuck~!” she said, starting to make her way for the door. “Good luck! Don’t die of rich guy boredom!”

Okay, she wasn’t that new, but she had only been in the town for a few months by this point. But Charlotte hadn’t gotten any new friends since meeting her. Tucking one of the metal tumblers into the crook of her arm, supported against her chest, she dug her phone out of the pocket of her dress. She would just shoot a quick text off, to at least let her know that she was waiting for someone, not some rando crasher to a exclusive party… which she kinda was. As she watched other people start to wander towards the main entrance. Charlie looked down at her own outfit, before back to the others. Making a face that would resemble Jack Sparrow’s pout when told there was no Rum. “Meh, only a little underdressed. she shrugged before taking a sip of coffee from the straw. “Should have asked Steph to spike it with Kahluah….”

As the sun set in the city of New Orleans, a voice echoed in the mind of an unconscious Alexandria. Though the voice was distorted, and hard to understand, should could make out a single word. It was her name. The woman's eyes flicked open as her iris illuminated with a crimson shimmer, and took in a deep breathe. Laying there as the voice faded into eternity. Alex knew that the voice was not telepathy, was not an invasion of her dreams, no, this came from within her. From her blood.

Slowly her mind focused from her rest, to the reality at hand. Her eyes dulling back to their normal brownish hue. Sitting up, Alexandria pulled her hair back, before standing. Taking in the room around her. While once she would have collected and decorated her abode in lavish items, this was a new life. One that did not allow her the luxuries of her past. With a sigh, the woman made her way towards the refrigerator. Passing windows that were meticulously framed and draped with black out curtains. As to not let a single ray of the sun welcome in her home. Silently her feat moved, touching on the old wooden flooring, that would have creaked and yelled at anyone else. As if the floor were looking to warn its owner of any possible intruder.

Dully Alex opened the refrigerator, bending over to reach for something specific. To anyone else the refrigerator contents looked normal; Mustard, Ketchup, pickles, yogurt that was long past it's best-by-date, Wine, Beer, cheese, the basic necessities for anyone scraping by. Yet far in the back was something hidden, a compartment. One that held the necessities for her life. Or perhaps, unlife. Snatching a bag of blood, Alex shut the door behind her, and was quick to grab a glass. Slicing open the container and pouring it's contents into a tall mug. "Vitae" Alex mumbled to herself before taking in a large drink.

It had not taken long for the woman to finish off her breakfast, and clean up after herself. Making her way to the shower, Alex began to get ready. There was an event tonight. One that she felt a particular draw to. If not to just better understand who owned the museum, and perhaps find something or someone of interest there. Though it was more than likely to end up a dull night, the rest of it could be spent exploring the town with her friend, Charlie. Though she'd not been in the city long, Alex did find the barista to be endearing. Someone that she could actually call a friend, and have a moderate amount of trust in. While many Kindred treated humans more as playthings and food, Alex was of a different mindset.

After she'd finished readying herself for the night, Alex was quick to lock up and leave for the event. Taking a cab to the museum, the woman arrived before much of the general guests. Dressed for the occasion, Alex entered the building with her keycard and began to do her normal once over. Seemingly falling into work mode as she looked over the security system and exhibits. It was not until the clicking of someone else's heels reached her ears that she was pulled back to the event at hand. As her gaze followed her ears to the source of the clicking, Alex was met by a female that she stood out to her as a Kindred. Watching the other for a moment, a vibration went off in her purse. Looking down at her phone, the woman read over the message.

Leaving the exhibit that she tending to, Alex immediately made her way to outside. Alex scanned the small crowd of faces as people gathered and entered. After moment, Alex's eyes found Charlie. Making her way over, Alex was quick to open her arms, and give the other girl a hug. "Hey, glad ya made it!" Alex called out, before looking down and taking the coffee mug off the other woman's hands. "The liquid of the gods, I need this. Badly." Alex commented, before she started sipping on the coffee, with a look of bliss.

Turning, and motioning for her to follow. "Not entirely sure what the night is about, but should have fancy drinks and food." Alex explained, with a slight pause, as if she was debating something in her mind. "I hope, at least. But, hey worst comes to worst, we appease my boss. Bail out at the first sign of freedom, and go get completely hammered at multiple bars through the night. Maybe pick up a couple sexy guys, who knows." Her tone youthful, and full of joy as they went to get a tour of the museum.

Exploring the museum, and seeing exhibit after exhibit, Alex managed to polish off her coffee. Appearing to be a little more chipper than she priorly was. Seemingly with each new exhibit, Alex had a grand story to tell about its origins and the people associated to the exhibits. Perhaps a little too eager to explain the times with almost a familial tone, Alex would occasionally catch a glance from Charlie. Shrugging, "What? I like history? It was my major. Stop judging me, you're judging me." The woman sheepishly would respond, before jumping back into her explanations. The more in depth her ramblings got, the more than Alex seemed to be oblivious to the world around her, and the other people.

tab tab The car with dark tinted windows pulled up outside the building. Lilith's eyes glanced it over. There were no night guards, some light coming through the large windows. This wasn't necessarily how she wanted to spend her night but she had been requested to be the representative. To her, it was a chance to gain additional information from this event. Some dusty artifact that would likely be sat behind some glass box. Boring but she didn't have much of a choice as she was told to go by her higher ups. If anything, she would at least leave the event with someone. By someone she meant the only other vampire that she could actually stomach being around. Unfortunately, it wasn't the easiest relationship to hold within their world but Lilith had been bored for several decades and Vasil provided her enough entertainment. At least for the time being.

tab tab Sitting across for her was Adrienne, the man her father demanded to come with her, for protection. This had been put in place before Lilith received the lecture about behaving and the reminder of who she was representing. It was a single roll of her eyes that made her father realize she was a poor choice for this. It was too late. "Just.. stay at a distance and don't do anything to embarrass me." she demanded of the other male before sliding out of the dark car. Her heels created echos as Lilith made her way up the stone steps, coming upon the door that was unlocked. A manicured hand reached out to pull it open, annoyed by the fact there was no one present to open it for her. Taking in the large room, Lilith noticed several others present - both kindred and humans. Interesting. Whatever this was, it looked like it was going to be good. Her excitement grew, just a bit but it wouldn't show on her face.

tab tab As her eyes danced around, her nose scrunched up at the various humans and vampires that shouldn't be present but somehow, were. It was going to be one of those nights. Crossing the marble floor, Lilith approached a rather large table, standing behind was a sommelier. Her words to him was short, as she was handed a glass of thick, dark red liquid. Blood. At least they managed to do something right. Now, Lilith could feel herself on edge, curious about what this new artifact found.

tab tab Lilith proceeded to walk around, mindlessly looking at the various displays. Her eyes landed on two, one being kindred the other being a human. A roll of her eyes followed. There was no reason for humans to be here, unless they were dinner. If that was the case, Lilith could deal for a short amount of time as long as it meant food. There had been little time for her to feed before showing. While the blood in the glass would hold her over, she much preferred the fun of it being fresh.

tab tab Eventually, She found herself taking a seat on one of the ledge of a window, a leg crossed over the other as she took in the room. It wasn't long before a shaky voice came from beside her. She had heard and smelled him approach but she thought he would have turned away before he got to her. If he had been smart he would have. Instead, he starting talking to her. Finally allowing her eyes to drift over to him, Lilith shot him a very fake smile. He was feeding compliments to her. Vasil wasn't around nor anyone else of interest. She could at least entertain him as long as he continued with the sweet remarks. Poor guy didn't even know Lilith was having an internal fight with herself. Was he even worth ruining her dress and hair? His smell wasn't that appealing.

The darkness of the home he had was good enough to keep him safe at night as well as offered him protection from others. The night prior he had to deal with some inter sect. ‘Drama’. When he finished dealing with that he had gone to feed and then left. The day of the party how ever he had each thing put on hold and did his day sleep. The Museum exhibit was going to be something to say the least. He was going to be around many more vampires, humans and other of the kindred. Typically he wouldn’t have bothered to attend this event but he was issued an invitation to the event.

⚔︎ tab tab He sat up from his bed stretched and got out to get ready for the events of the night. He got showered, dressed and ready to go. Vasily had left got into his car and drove away from his home. The security in the car was decent and he didn’t really need to worry much about it.

⚔︎ tab tab After sometime and plenty of red lights he pulled into the parking lot and parked. He didn’t wish to make an appearance besides possibly two people here. This was supposed to be the unveiling of some kind of artifact that was supposed to be quite impressive. This wasn’t his place to say though and normally he wouldn't partake in such an occasion as to avoid the others if he was mistaken for whatever reason to be doing something that went against the sect. All he was warning himself upon receiving the invitation was that he should remember his place in the Lasombra.

⚔︎ tab tab He walked the lot to the doors and walked in. It was well past the closing and the fact that there was something going on this late would indicate that it must have been something rather important that needed to be seen. When he passed through the doors of the museum he looked around noting that it appeared to not just be other kindred but quite a number of humans and other creatures of the night. It seems that the curator had invited quite a number of others that had some kind of renown or political pull in their world of undeath. He walked to a long table and looked around up and down the table. He didn’t feel the need right now to feed but come a bit later it might help if he couldn’t get out and get something at the end of the night.

⚔︎ tab tab Vasily did take notice how ever of one person sitting at a window as elegant as ever. There was one and he could smell the other but with the number of people here there was quite a few people around and gathered in groups. A shaky voice from someone next to her could be faintly heard as they talked. He took one last scan of the area and started to walk over towards Lilith. He looked up at the man and nodded. “Hello Lilith.” He said as he sat down not to far away from her on the ledge near the window. Now was the longest part of the night. Waiting for the festivities of the night to start.

The Museum was more alive than it had ever been at this small hour. The conflagration of Kindred clans and accentuation of human lives were a satisfying bouquet. A suspenseful taste of more that was yet to come. Ventrue, Tremere, Lasombra, Brujah, Gangrel, Toreador, and more. She’d half expected to see some Malkavians making a rare debut. But the wiser half of her had known better. Theirs was a reclusive sort, even moreso than the Tremere, and that was their power. Well..one of them. There’s something to be said for turning Madness into Means. But tonight was not about the Kindred themselves…no. It was merely about their gathering.

    “Welcome!”

It was about a half hour into the little meet’n’greet that their attention was pulled to the end of the room. Their largely sunken eyes falling upon a woman who stood at the end of the room. Whereas many had come garbed in the wealthy sartorial splendor fitting for such an event; this woman looked as though she’d been torn from the cover of a 90’s grunge album. A cropped and half-bleached gray denim jacket worn over a loose-fitting white tee; bearing nothing but the phrase ‘Kiss Me, I’m Irish’ plastered across the front.

Monochromatic horizontally striped stockings worn beneath gray jean shorts, and a pair of tall canvas lace up sneakers that nearly reached her knees. Tucked into her left arm was an iPad; and in her right hand she held a swagger stick. A pair of red-rimmed tortoise shell glasses sat perfectly on the bridge of her nose, and the perfect smile she shined across this dismal crowd was bright enough to start a fire.

“Welcome, one’n’all! Glad to have ya. My name is Anna-Maria, and I’ll be ya guide through tonight’s wondrous affair!” Her accent was thick, and made her shirt seem all the more appropriate. Her “I’ll” sounded more like “oy’ll,” and yet there wasn’t a drop of self-consciousness in her. The Camarilla representative–a sultry Ventrue named Lilith who seemed as dangerous as she did attractive–was quick to pipe up. “Where is LaCroix?” She demanded, inquiring about the museum’s curator. The very man who supposedly sent the invitations.

Anna-Maria didn’t falter in step, tone, nor smile. She turned her attention to Lilith, and canted her head lazily to one side. “Monsieur Lacroix is the museum’s curator, yes, but he isn’t the owner. I am. I do hope the Camarilla enjoys the show.” She gave a lazy curtsy, and then swept the swagger stick through the air towards the hall of portraits. “If you’d be dears?” With that she led the group towards their first display.

For the Thin-Blood it would all be run-of-the-mill. She saw these things every day and knew them like the back of her hand. For some of the Kindred of the area–the Ventrue, the Tremere, the Lasombra–they would find equal dissatisfaction. Many of the pieces they could remark as unremarkable, and some even may have been donated to the museum by parties present now. They didn’t care about any of this. These were all hors d'oeuvres…the main course is what they were interested in. As the next half hour came to an end…their wish would come true.

“Ahhh, and finally,” Anna-Maria exclaimed as she walked into the largest exhibit hall. This room they usually kept the more obscene exhibits. The dinosaur skeletons, the remnants of sunken ships, and so on. But tonight was different. Tonight it was something altogether new.

On the left side of the room were a few rows of chairs. Enough seating to provide for all present and then some. Anna-Maria waited in silence as the people filled the makeshift pews. Watching as their eyes drifted behind her. As they gazed upon the object wrapped tightly in thick, and dusty tarp. They did not know what lie underneath. Even their supernatural senses would not let them permeate the forceful phenomenon which surrounded this object in a shroud of…malice.

“Do make ya’selves comf’table,” Anna-Maria recommended, “while I get the lights!” She ended rather cheerfully, and then hopped off towards the end of the room. Disappearing around a corner to go and do as she claimed.

“My bottle’s empty.” Lilith’s voice pierced the awkward quiet like a sword in the belly, and she set the bottle lazily into Vasily’s lap. The Lasombra half chuckled and half rolled his eyes at the woman. “I’d prefer something fresher anyway.” Her eyes turned to find the nearest human thrall; and she grasped him by the back of his neck. Watching him turn to putty in her hands, dropping to his knees, and succumbing to the terror of a creature against whom he was utterly powerless. Following her example, each Kindred who’d brought a human along began to do the same, and shamelessly so.

    At first–to Charlie’s eye–she thought, ‘this is either the world’s sexiest flash mob, or these people are f****ng insane.’ She turned to tell her friend, Alex, that it was time to go. But when she looked…Alex’s eyes were filled with dread. Not fear, no, not fear alone. But dread. Remorse. The guilt of being caught red-handed. If not for Alex–if not for the look in her friend’s face–she wouldn’t have bought it. She’d have wrote it all off as bullshit. But when she looked into Alex’s eyes…that’s when she knew;

    this was all too real.

Her feet started to move before her mind had any say in the matter. She wasn’t stupid. She wasn’t gonna sit around and try to ‘figure things out.’ Be one of those dumb ******** to be the first caught in a horror flick that everybody in the theatre laughs at. Nuh uh. Not her. She was almost around the corner…until she bumped smack dab into Anna-Maria. Bouncing back from the insanely sturdy woman, and landing flat on her a**.

“Ooo! Y’know what we call it in Ireland when ya come tha’ close to gettin’ away?” Anna-Maria made a soft clicking sound with her tongue as she shook her head. “A cryin’ shame.” A tilt of her head. That’s all it took. Anna-Maria tilted her head slightly; and Charlie felt…sloshed. Forget going out to the bars after this. She hadn’t touched a drop of decent alcohol yet; and yet she felt like she’d just won first place at Oktoberfest. What the hell was happening to her?

“Right you are, my love,” Anna-Maria said lovingly before giving Charlie a gentle pat on the shoulder.

‘Char!’ The Thin-Blood called out to her friend. Yet she would soon realize that she had problems of her own. That problem namely being that same femme fatale who’d begun this little breakdown. Lilith’s hand slid ever-so-gently across Alex’s shoulder. Having closed the distance in one instance of ethereal movement; and speaking in a whisper that somehow echoed across the room. “Did you bring an unbroken Kine into my presence, Thin-Blood?”

Anna Maria said nothing as she walked across the marble floor of the museum. Once again approaching the large structure wrapped in tarp. She said nothing to a single one of them save Charlie. The smile on her face hadn’t so much as quivered from its original luster. Instead she merely came to stand in front of the great item, fold her hands in front of herself, and wait. Wait for them to finish discussing their issues amongst themselves. Wait for them to return their attention to her…and wait.

    Wait for her Master’s call.

Lilth's eyes shifted to the blonde who appeared to be handling the festivities for the night. Shoveling the bottle into the males lap beside her, taking the nearest neck of the the human. Within minutes, he was practically on his knees. A small smirk coming to her lips. she grumbled. Though, she paid no mind to the kindred around her. They were all followers. They couldn't think for their own at this point. This proved so. Following her show. "You're lucky I look good in this dress. I would have ripped your throat open right here." Her hand delicately gave it a swift pat against the blood rushed cheeks. Humans were so innocent and yet, extremely worthless. As her hand pulled back, one of her perfectly filed nails dug into his skin, leaving behind a wound, blood dripping down the mark. Raising it to her lips, she tasted a bit before shrugging. "You'll do." she grumbled before cleaning the remaining blood from her finger on the mans shirt.

tab tab It was in that moment, her ears picked up on another scuffle. Something more much entertaining than the man bleeding at her knees. "Watch the human for me." she ordered Vasily, before standing and closing the distance in one measly second. Lilith's hand draped across the kindred shoulders as the scene played out before her. Within moments, she was left alone with Thin-Blood and the human. "You must have a death wish or you're wishing death on the Kine." she hissed, her eyes glancing over the woman. A sparkle in her eye appeared at the thoughts that ran through her head. It was seconds later, the presence of Adrienne joined the small group. Another roll of her eyes. Having a babysitter wasn't something she wanted but the way he kept his eyes on the unbroken made her even more curious. "How cute. A Tremere crushing on a human. How.. worthless." She shot towards the man before finally turning her full attention back on the Thin-Blood.

tab tab "You're so ******** pathetic. So weak. You can't even break a human. You have to befriend them instead." Lilith withdrew her hand completely from her shoulder only for her hand to pull back and slap Alex straight across the face, leaving behind a red mark and sending her stumbling into the wall behind her with the force from her hand. "Get out of my sight, you useless half blood." The woman spat before she turned on her heels and moved back through the crowd. Many Kindred eyes were on her, none of which she gave any attention towards. Adrienne had placed himself between the two Kindred, ready to step between them if needed. His only duty. Though, much of his attention was pulled to the Kine standing before him. There was a large part of him that wanted to get the woman out of the room, but he couldn't leave. Not without getting his head torn off. It was pulling him apart.

tab tab Taking her seat, Lilith hadn't bothered addressing the situation with Vasily. Instead her words were directed towards Anna Marie. "Shows over. Let us see what you've decided to waste several hours of my night on." Annoyance rang in her voice, not attempting to hide it a little.

Taking another sip of her own coffee she raised a bow at the comment about dipping out. “If I start to dye of boredom, I will be on my way to the closest club.” She agreed as she followed, listening to Alex as she started to describe each other's paintings or statues they passed, had Charlie been along for a fifth grade museum tour, she was sure she would have paid more attention. But as her friend looked back to herself, she figured she had an odd look on her face. At least based on what her friend said. “It is all fine to like history, but I’ve lived here like most my life, These exhibits don’t really change.” she laughed, wrapping her arm around the other’s shoulder. “Besides, I wasn’t going to stop you when you were on a roll. It’s the same as me trying to explain to you the difference between coffee beans and brew processes.” she pointed out.

tab tab Though it was not long until everyone was gathered at the central room, the two women had just made it back when the woman had started to greet the room. Though she looked like she fell out of some random time capsule she had buried back in elementary school. ‘At least I am not the one under dressed, but maybe the costume is to do with something for why the party was happening,’ she thought, starting to follow the rest of the group towards the larger of the exhibit halls. As they made their way in, there were chairs set up around a large display shrouded in a dark cloth. Looking around for a seat she sat down next to Alex. The room was stupid quiet as Charlie took the last sip of her coffee, wishing again it was spiked. But the voice of a woman pierced the silence, causing the blond to look over, though what she saw was not something she would have in a million years expected, especially when the woman bit down into the man’s neck.

tab tab She felt the color drain from her face, her mouth agape, this had to be some show right? Maybe some cannibal exhibit? They were actors, surely. Though more started to follow suit of the first woman. Turning to look at Alex, to if anything CONFIRM this was all an act or a show or even a joke. But seeing the look on the darker woman’s face, only confirmed this was a s**t show in the works. “S’cuse me.” she said quietly starting to make her way past Alex, her already pale complexion turning sickly. She had to get out, now. The minute her flats touched the open aisle she was on a run trying to find the door they had just entered. Running around the corner, she found herself stumbling back after colliding with a solid mass. “Ooo! Y’know what we call it in Ireland when ya come tha’ close to gettin’ away?” Looking up, her blood running cold in her veins.

                                                          tab tab “A cryin’ shame.”

tab tab That was all it took, the world started to shift below her and she felt her legs giving out from the weight of the force. Her head starting to spin as if she had just downed an entire bottle of tequila, and then chased it with vodka. Charlie wasn’t sure if she wanted to vomit or sleep, or hell even cry. This was a freaking horror movie come to life, and the worst part was it was real. Not some ******** stunt, or even a cult of crazy people… Close, but they weren’t mentally twisted humans. Hearing Alex call back to her, she turned her head lazily only to see the woman that had started it all walking up behind the woman. Trying to stand up, she only found herself back on the ground, leaned up against the wall. Someone walked over blocking her view of what was going on with Alex, though her brows furrowed. She knew him… just could not place his name right in that moment. Then Alex was on the floor, Charlie tried to see where the woman was going. Looking down at the tumbler in her hand, she thought about throwing it at the woman. But it was better not to lose her favorite cup… “Alex… the ******** is going on?” she asked, looking back to the rest of the room.

tab Losing herself in the enjoyment of the museum, Alex did not realize the level of s**t that she was in, until it was far too late. As they pair found their seats amongst the others in the makeshift pews. As Alex looked around the room, it began to dawn on her who made up a majority of the guests. Or, at least, far too many of the guests for this to end well. As Charlie went to excuse herself, Alex was not far behind. Frantically she looked around, while catching back up to Charlie. Quickly things devolved. Kindred were draining their victims, and the pair caught the sight of the woman that started it all.

tab Feeling the firm grip of a kindred on her shoulders, Alex looked out of the corner of her eye to see who it was. Yet the voice that rang out from behind her would tell her all that she would need to know. Gritting her teeth, Alex’s first instinct was to turn and let loose the strength and short sightedness that the Brujah were known for. Of all the Kindred clans, the Brujah were most known for their pure strength, and ability to throw compact cars at those who angered them. Even for a thin-blooded Brujah, their strength was not to be taken lightly. Yet, Alex knew there was a time and place. This was not it.

tab Gritting her teeth as she listened to the other woman’s words. Soon Alex felt the hands removed from her shoulder, and subconsciously her hand balled into a fist. A fury was rising in the woman as she immediately turned around, her fist rising to meet the brunette. Yet, before Alex could so much as make a move, the other woman’s hand met her face, and sent her stumbling into the wall. “Arrogant piece of s**t.” Alex growled, as she looked up from the floor. Spitting blood from her mouth onto the marble ground.

tab Soon Alex’s attention was brought to Charlie. She wanted to know what was going on, yet all Alex could initially do was answer in one way, “I didn’t know.” The woman desperately said. Looking up at the man that stood before them, then back to Charlie. “We need to get out, I’ll get you out.” Alex said with a conviction that would have fit someone that would was about to go on a suicide mission.

tab Standing to her feet, Alex moved her hand to help Charlie up. Positioning herself between Charlie and the others of the event. Looking around the room, as she stood her ground, before her gaze fell back onto Adrienne. She recognized the man; it was not the first time that they’d met. Hell, the last time that they met, Alex was ready clock him out, if it was not for Charlie pulling her away. "Charlie, get up. We need to get up and move." Alex whispered to her, before cursing under her breathe and helping the other woman to her feet. Taking one of Charlie's arms and wrapping it over her shoulder, to help keep the other woman up.

tab Glaring down the man that stood before them. Alex did not know what he wanted, or why he stepped in. If she knew one thing about the kindred in the room though, it was not for a benevolent reason. "Let. Us. Pass." She commanded, her word rippling in the air with venom. Slowly, Alex began to guide the pair of them away from the scene, her eyes never leaving the threats in the room. The last thoughts in her mind were of interest on whatever relic they had. It could have been the holy grail, and Alex's priorities would not have changed.

Anna-Maria had taken them on a tour of the museum and showed them many things that could be seen at any given point in time. He had yawned bored at the show and eventually sat next to Lilith. She had polished off a bottle and sat it in his lap like a glorified cup holder before taking the thrall next to them and biting into his neck. Vasily shrugged and sat back putting his weight on the back of the chair he had occupied for the coming reveal. The only words Lilith had spoke to him before disappearing into the background was to watch the human. He huffed and turned to the man who was bleeding staying in the same spot he had been left. Vasily turned shaking his head away from the human and looked back at the center. The noises behind him he peered out the corner of his eyes after some attention had been grabbed. It seemed Alex had caught some flak for bringing someone to this event that wasn't one of the kindred or a thrall. “Should have known better.” He mumbled to himself as he turned back in his seat.

⚔︎ tab tab Anna-Maria had returned center stage after getting the lights and the little bit of drama in the background had played out. The only real audible sound after talking was the distinct sound of a smack and some stumbling. The situation was not of his business anyways so he let his mind wander just a little bit but not enough to truly distract him from what he was there to see. He would admit though that the large object in the center of the room had drawn most of his interest and was the real reason he assumed they had been asked to attend this event.

⚔︎ tab tab As the crows seemed to settle back in and focus was drawn back onto the tarp-covered object Vasily felt an immediate cold chill down his spine. It was the object emanating an aura of sheer terror. He recognized only a small portion of the aura it was emanating. The feeling of the master. He grabbed Lilith and picked her up. “Don't ask shut up we need to leave now.” He encouraged as he pushed his way through the pew-like setup of the chairs surrounding the object. As he looked around he saw the other kindred around them had seemingly frozen in place. Lilith herself however had become debilitated by the aura of the object.

⚔︎ tab tab It however didn’t take long for them to reach the point of Charlie, Alex, and Adrienne though. He paused to look at the other three and said “Okay, so we need to leave now. As in this is the bad stuff that they are getting ready to unveil.” He started to usher the other three to go and get moving towards the doors.

“Your night?” Anna-Maria repeated Lilith’s words back to her with a tone of humor, and underlying certainty. “Sure about tha’?” Anna-Maria’s chocolate eyes flashed with an emerald green light; and returned to normal as she set her gaze upon the Thin-Blood. She was giving it her all to save her human friend from this bloodsucker soiree. Poor girl was doing her best…but it was like Anna-Marie had already said; ‘twas just a cryin’ shame. The Lasombra, on the other hand, was staring intently upon the artifact. He knew. She didn’t know how he did…but unlike the rest of them…he knew. Hmm.

“Always getta kick outta watchin’ you leeches kick each other ‘round, but let’s get on with the show!” Anna-Maria raised her right hand, and snapped her fingers. Charlie wasn’t able to move much at all. Alex was doing her best to carry her friend; but they weren’t moving quickly with Adrienne hesitantly blocking their path. Besides, they wouldn’t get far. “Leeches and germs, may I present–” Anna-Maria reached up, grasping a particular handful of the tarp, and yanked it downwards. The dusty brown rippling as it fell slowly to the floor.

    “The Dragon’s Nest”

It was a sarcophagus; and it was magnificent. The cold black sheen of bedrock–somehow perfectly interwoven with gold filigree–reflected the light like dark marble. Upon it’s front was the front of a person, laid in gold. The depiction was half-male, and half-female. Upon it’s center was an Ancient Mark, that only the most studious of history would recognize. Enochian scripture was carved throughout the surface of the prehistoric coffin; and the moment the tarp fell away they could feel it. More than that.

It was like the room had fallen into silence. Every Kindred present, right down to the Thin-Blood, could hear that dull ringing in their ears. Felt like the corners of the room had suddenly crept closer; and all the world was terribly smaller than it was before. What the hell was it?

“Nice, I know.” Anna-Maria’s thick accent was the first thing to drag them to some semblance of reality. The mysterious Irish woman began to walk slowly around the artifact, and allowed her swagger stick to brush up against it’s rim. “Yeahhhh…dug it outta the southwest plateau of Afghanistan, and I’ll tell ya, it took some right doin’. Seventeen men died from mysterious circumstances, too, so I had to keep on sendin’ ‘em in. But we got there, din’t we.’!”

She exclaimed with a point of her stick towards the crowd. “Now I know what you’re all thinkin’, right? Ancient spooky box…let’s scooby doo this b***h, right?” Against any possible exclamation, Anna-Maria raised her right hand, and touched her finger to the tomb. That was all. Just a touch..and the lid creaked with an ear-splitting scream. A perfect rim of dust older than any of their Sires came spilling from the cracks; and the lid fell forward onto the ground. Leaving the standing and now opened sarcophagus.

Inside was a figure. Their entire body was wrapped in some ancient cloth from head to toe. The cloth covered in writing far too small to read from a distance; and yet clear enough to know it was written in blood. Wrapped over the layers of cloth were a massive set of chains; and from each large link hung a number of warding talismans. Was it a man? Or a woman? It was impossible to tell. Almost as impossible to even try and guess for everyone in the room who wasn’t human…as their hearts were gripped with fear. Old fear. True fear.

Imagine it. Close your eyes. Imagine you’ve gone hiking in the woods with a good friend. Enjoying your time in nature; and enjoying the presence of someone whose company you enjoy. You tell your friend you need to tie your shoe; and that you’ll catch up. They continue on, and you kneel down to fix the problem. As you're tying your lace…something pings in your mind. Like a spark or a brief alarm. You can’t explain how, or why it is that you know. But you do.

The hairs on the back of your neck begin to rise. The muscles in your back tighten; and you stop breathing. The low rumble in the throat of a predator who’s only inches behind you; poised. Ready. Your mind is racing. “What is it? Do I run? How big is it? Do I play dead? Where’s my friend? Do I stay still? What do I do? Do I have a weapon?” Your mind is racing…but your body won’t move. Fear has seized your muscles like terror come incarnate. But the predator is not so flustered. The predator is calm. Certain of its victory…because it can smell your fear. It can taste it in the air. Because it knows…just like you know…you’re gonna die.

This true and primordial fear ran through the heart of every Kindred who laid eyes upon this mummified corpse. One of the Kindred towards the back of the room began to weep like a child; and fell to his knees. Another simply hugged the pillar he was standing near; gripping onto it as though it were all that kept him safe. “The anticipation, amirite?” All eyes snapped back onto Anna-Maria, who was now standing closer to the corpse than she had been before, and was raising that very same hand of hers. Alex and Charlie were nearly halfway down the hall of portraits, with Adrienne guiding them. “It’s a bloody killer. Her fingertip grazed against one of the chains…and that was enough.

The talismans which hung from the chainlinks suddenly ignited into blue flames; and then swiftly burned away. The chains themselves rusted into a fine brown powder before their eyes; and that powder fell into a small pile on the ground. Until all that covered the mummified figure were the clothes wrapped tightly around it’s body. No one moved. No one spoke. No one so much as drew a breath. For a few seconds it seemed like it was, perhaps, truly dead…but most knew better than to hold out such hope.

    It moved.

Just a little twitch…but that was enough. Almost every Kindred in the room started to make a break for the nearest doorway. Sure. They’d heard stories. Rumors. Every old coot vampire they’d ever met in their day each had a different version. “One day the Elders will come back and save us/kill us/lead us.” Same old peddler bullshit that priests handed out in church, right? That’s what they’d thought. For eons and eons that’s what many of them had thought. Staring it down in the flesh for the first time though…they had to run. They had to go. But they hadn’t made it so much as six feet before they were deafened by a bloodcurdling shriek. A scream that echoed not just in their skulls but in their souls; and debilitated them into doing little more than trying to clutch their hands over their ears. The mummified thing began to…bulge. It began to twist, and..grow, even.

“Come on!” The Lasombra–Vas–was the only one able-bodied enough in that moment to take any action. He picked Lilith up off the ground by her arm. Ignoring the trails of blood trickling out of her eardrums just as they were his own. It was still screaming. It just wouldn’t stop. They took a glance backwards. “What the ********–” Lilith began, but Vas was too insistent they keep moving. Even as they watched a pair of tattered silver wings rip out from the cloth which held the creature at bay.

Alex and Charlie were the first to make it to the doors. Alex grabbed the handle of the door; yanked it, and discovered it was locked. “Oh ******** no,” was Alex’s response, and she carefully propped her friend up against the nearest wall. She then proceeded to approach the door; and lifted her foot to kick it open. “We’re gettin’ the hell out–” Alex’s foot did not impact with the glass. Instead, like something out of an old saturday cartoon, her foot sank into the glass like it was rubber; and she was thrown back onto her a**.

“Yeahhhh…” Where in the devil’s name Anna-Maria had come from was anyone’s guess. She seemed to have some Batman-esque ability to simply disappear and reappear as she pleased. “Sorry. Locked down.” She shrugged her shoulders casually; and idly twirled the swagger stick in her hand. Even as what sounded like the worst of a horror movie continued to play out just down the hall. The Thin-Blood had already scrambled back to her feet; and spoke commandingly.

“"You will release us, you vile fae!" Alex’s attention momentarily being drawn back to the screams down the hall. "If not us, release the hum–"

"YoU WiLl ReLeAsE uS--" Anna-Maria mocked Alex’s voice like a middle-schooler would. Rolling her eyes in exhaustion, she was about to turn away when Charlie managed to eek out a few words in her drunken stupor. “What did you do? Why…all of this?” Anna-Maria shrugged her shoulders casually. “Did as told; and why not? ******** d’you do for fun?” She smacked the palms of her hands together once, and laughed aloud at her own sense of humor.

It was at this point that both the Lasombra and Ventrue had managed to clamber their way into the chamber. “Sooo…looks like the gang’s all here.” She exclaimed in that jovial Irish lilt. Alex tried to capitalize on Anna-Maria’s eyes being elsewhere; and dashed forward to wrap her fingers around the Irish woman’s throat. Only to be met by empty air, and a low whistle coming from behind her. Alex growled, and turned on her heel to stand protectively in front of Charlie.

"Another fae with no honor,” Alex began, “same of the trash that would employ them. Slowly creatures that could not rise on their own." Anna-Maria responded at first with nothing more than ‘pffffft,’ but she did start to approach the group of them. “Think ‘em trash? Ask ‘em yaself!” The group would turn their eyes to see. The Pale Dragon had broken through the doorframe that led to the room where it had emerged. It’s glimmering silver scales peeling the paint from the walls.

The lights were torn from the ceiling as it passed beneath them in it’s terrible frenzy. It had no eyes to speak of. Only two long antenna-like horns, and two large slits for nostrils. Rows of fangs akin to daggers dripped with saliva that sizzled when it touched the marble floor. Wings hooked with terrible claws that buried themselves into the museum foundations as if they were little more than mud. Thrashing. Screaming. Enclosing upon them with force and fury unbridled. Alex wrapped her arms around Charlie and turned her back on the creature.

Vasily crouched down with Lilith in his grasp; and tried to shield her from the oncoming nightmare. Seeing that his charge was already protected, Adrienne stepped in front of Charlie and Alex. Spreading his arms out wide; baring his fangs in a combination of fear, and defiance. Anna-Maria raised her right hand. She connected the tips of her thumb and middle finger.

    || Chapter One: Gehenna -- Genesis ||

  • Snapping fingers. That was it. That was the only sound they could hear echoing around them. No more screams…no more rending claws…no more sizzling dribble. It was quiet. One by one they each looked up to ascertain just what had happened…and found that nothing was the same. They were no longer in the lobby of the museum. Indeed they were no longer in the museum at all. They were standing on the 45th floor of the Plaza Tower building. One of the tallest buildings in New Orleans; and abandoned for nearly 20 years.

“Wait for it–” Their eyes would snap to find Anna-Maria standing amongst them. Slightly hunched over; one hand cupped over her ear; and that same silly smile plastered over her face. It would’ve been the perfect opportunity to kill her for what she’d just put them through…but it was already too late. They could hear it again. The beating of great wings. Enclosing upon them yet again. What the <********> was going on? Had they been moved elsewhere just to be eaten in a different location?

The creature was closing in…and yet…something felt different about it this time. Something felt…

    …familiar.
