tab tab ➷Takotsubo Yoshimitsu–born “Tensei Yoshimitsu”–is the only living son of the great weaponsmith and inventor, Gin Yoshimitsu. The Yoshimitsu Clan is one of the great swordsmith houses, and has been for several generations. Oblivious to the existence of Demons, the Clan excels at the design of artillery and firearms for the Empire of Japan. The Yoshimitsu clan has been forging swords since the days of the Kamakura period. One of their ancestral figures–Minata Yoshimitsu–was the designer of the standard musket rifles first employed by samurai. They have always been one of the iron hands holding up the throne of the Emperor. tab
tab tab ➷Tensei was born the second son of House Yoshimitsu. He was always a lean boy, and yet he was never the soldier his elder brother Tomoe was born to be. Tomoe Yoshimitsu was the first born son, first captain in the Empire’s military, a distinguished combat veteran, and a renowned swordsman. When he wasn’t busy planning strategy with his fellow officers, he was off on missions that he was unable to explain. Only twenty-six years old and already telling his father “I can’t say.” He was the pride and joy of the Yoshimitsu clan. It was through his status and renown that the Yoshimitsu’s revitalized their connections with the empire, and nearly doubled their annual production. tab
tab tab ➷Tensei admired his brother beyond breath or belief. He had no talent with the sword, and was utterly hopeless when it came to responding to authority. He was a prince through and through. Yet he refused to be completely overshadowed by his brother, and longed to make achievements of his own. He took to sharpening his mind and body through independent means. He began designing, inventing, and building his own creations. Studying manufacturing practices along with research and development. It wasn’t long before his father took notice; and the clan patriarch took Tensei under his wing. tab
tab tab ➷Together the pair of them endeavored to create–in Tensei–the next great mind of House Yoshimitsu. Within several years Tensei had made a name for himself as a renowned engineer and a prolific weaponsmith. His body adorned with the countless scars he’d earned from burns, cuts, bruises, and other injuries retained while testing or creating weapons. It was one fateful month that his brother had returned to spend some time at home, that Tensei discovered a means of more efficiently creating and manufacturing cordite. A smokeless powder used in place of gunpowder as the combustible material in the muskets used by the Empire of Japan. This discovery would profit the Empire by tens of millions in their defense efforts. tab
tab tab ➷Tomoe arranged for an immediate missive to be sent to the emperor’s retainers. Within a week, both siblings were summoned to appear before the Emperor’s generals, and allow them to evaluate the value of Tensei’s discovery. With their father’s blessing, the two of them set out to meet the representatives waiting in Tokyo. The generals were more than satisfied with the results of Tensei’s findings. He was awarded with the Order of the Rising Sun. He was recognized as an accomplished chemist and weaponsmith. It would have been the perfect day…if not for the journey home. tab
tab tab ➷On the roads leaving Tokyo, the siblings were accosted by a Demon. Their wagon was overturned, and Tensei was injured in the assault. Tomoe sprung into action, drawing his Nichrin sword, and revealing the true purpose of all of his ‘classified missions.’ Tomoe proved to be an expert combatant when faced with a Demon. But Tensei was not so experienced. The Demon took control of Tensei’s mind, and though Tomoe managed to exterminate the Demon, he was fatally wounded in the process; by Tensei’s hand. The Demon turned to ash and the spell wore off in time for Tensei to see what he had done; and to hear the final request of his elder brother. tab
tab tab ➷Tasked with carrying on his good work, Tensei carried his brother’s Nichrin blade back to Tokyo. Wounded, broken in spirit, and bereaved…Tensei was heartbroken. He booked passage back to his father’s estate, and when his father heard the news the eldest Yoshimitsu was shattered by it. He could not conceive the existence of Demons to be real. Instead accusing Tensei himself of killing his own brother out of jealousy. Hearing no reason or argument from his wife–Tensei’s mother–, Gin allowed his son to keep his title/status for the sake of the family’s relationship with the Empire. However, Gin stripped Tensei of his name, bequeathing him with the moniker “Takotsubo” instead, and banishing him from his father’s sight. tab
tab tab ➷Exiled from his home, Takotsubo took to living in one of his family’s warehouses, and the rumors around his banishment began to circulate. Before long entire villages believed him to be a fratricidal monster who had murdered his brother and gotten away with it. Wherever he went he was met with suspicion, fear, or resentment. In time he accepted this as his fate; and even came to welcome it with some comfort of familiarity. After 9 months of his infamy spreading across the land, he was approached by a member of the Demon Slayer corp. It was in one brief encounter that the Demon Slayer arrived at the conclusion that Takotsubo could never have gotten the better of an experienced Slayer like Tomoe. The Demon Slayer believed Takotsubo’s story, and offered him a place among their ranks. Seeing the opportunity to redeem himself and honor his brother’s memory, Takotsubo accepted. tab

tab tab ➷Esoteric Martial Art: “Tengoku no Kuroi Nawa,” Heaven’s Black Noose || A foundation established from the school of Wing Chun; lethal strikes incorporated from the school of western boxing; elegant, dancing movement; and a set of great chains originally designed for the anchors of large ships. These elements combined form the singularly unique style of combat Takotsubo has created and developed over the years. He bears a length of tight braid-link chains around his abdomen in order to shield himself from attacks, and to carry as weights for his own strength/endurance. He carries a second length of Great Chains that are wrapped in layers from his wrist, around his arms, around his shoulders, and down to the next wrist. He spends much of his free time flexing his arms to the length of the chains, and exhibiting a constant yet moderate strain upon his muscles. Aiming to perfect his physical form as he aspires to purity in his mental one. tab

➷ || “Tengoku no Hōyō,” Heaven’s Embrace || The wielder wraps great chains around the enemy’s limbs, and then tightens in order to neutralize the enemy’s movement. This can be used to pin or even capture smaller opponents. But larger–or stronger–enemies are more likely to use this against the wielder.
➷ || “Serafimu no Hōkai,” Fall of the Seraphim || The wielder leaps into the air and extends the chains to full length on either side of the body. This gives the momentary illusion of wings, before the wielder comes down with full force, and brings the chains down upon the enemy like twin guillotine. This move is not without it’s risks. The moment after this technique is executed, a small window of vulnerability leaves the wielder exposed as they gather up the chains they’ve unleashed. This entails that a missed attack could end in a fatal retaliation.
➷ || “Akai Shūkaku,” Red Harvest || The wielder gathers a great deal of momentum through a series of flips and rotations. Once they have achieved the proper speed as well as force, they begin to slam the chains upon the earth between themselves and the enemy. Closing the distance with each rotation, gaining more force with each strike, until they resemble a thresher tearing up a field. This technique is devastating in it’s potential, and yet exhausting to those in the early stages of mastery. Not even Takotsubo can perform it more than once without requiring at least a day’s rest. Not yet, anyhow.
