The Meteor Shower (3) : It wouldn’t be a star festival without a meteor shower! Right on time, a beautiful array of shooting stars graces the night sky. This time of year is unnaturally clear and it’s incredibly easy to see the stars. Most meteor fragments appear to be little white or yellow lights streaming across the sky, but if you watch closely enough you may find that some of them seem to be a whole rainbow of colors. The scientists have reported that it’s just different components burning up as they enter the atmosphere, but there’s something undeniably magical about it.
Dawn happily made her way through the booths, looking at each and everything that was offered by the venders. It was fascinating to see what people made, brought, offered, and sold. Everything from bookmarks to hand made sweets. Prepackaged candies and even knitted little stars. They were so adorable! Dawn couldn't help but squeee a bit at them, of course she bought one. With the teal star happily tucked into her hand bag she moved on to the next booth, this one 'wo'manned by a tall and willowy lady selling jewelry and other shiny babbles.
"Good evening!" The young woman happily greeted the other person. "These are beautiful! Do you know what they are made out of?" She asked while gesturing to some of the jewelry. It was tempting to pick up a piece or two for friends and family but she needed to be real careful with the contents of her wallet. It would only go so far after all and she had to remember to keep an eye on her spending. After all college wasn't going to be cheep! She was determined to foot the bill all by herself, no help from her parents outside of paperwork. But after a year of working as many jobs as she could Dawn liked to think that her bank account was healthy enough to splurge a little here and there. It wasn't but she knew how to live on a budget. She knew what it would take to survive with only a little bit of cash and she would do it too. She was determined on that front.
Raised chatter, voices filled with wonder and awe, had the strawberry blond looking up only to join them in stating their pleasure out loud. "Oh wow! Look at that!" Shooting stars. Streams of light arching across the city sky line. "Best make a wish," She told the vender lady before taking her own advice.
So what did she wish for? To win the lottery? To graduate without any crippling debt? To get a pet finally? Nope, none of those. She honestly wished for everyone in the world to get along. She quite literally wished for world peace.
A truly selfless wish that had no real chance to come true but wasn't that what wishes were meant to be? Something worth wishing for regardless of how impossible it really was?
