takes place immediately after A Pink, Stained Glass Mystery

"So when are you going to take me to Basiluzzo?"

It wasn't a request so much as a thinly-veiled needle as Ignacio only partially glanced in Richard's direction, his eyes otherwise on the screen in front of them as he went through a karting level on a lower difficulty than his usual. He did want to get better at it than Raina. It wasn't fair how good she was at it. He also didn't really feel like going hard at it today--

Livie had headed off to her wonder earlier, so Ignacio was using the time to relax and chat with his husband. Or ... needle him, as it were.

"You know I took you to Encke as soon as you found out I could go to space. You were still a civilian, even." He quirked a brow in Richard's direction before turning his attention back to the television.

"You know how much I love space. I wanna see--"

"I know, don't worry. I know." Ignacio was insufferable--in the best way, of course--and Richard rolled his eyes. It'd been several months since Richard had visited his wonder for the first time, and he'd been making sure to return more regularly since then. He was often torn between bringing supplies to fix up the place and wandering the empty, sandy hallways, hallways that he could almost hear voices ringing through. Of course, he had to find ways and time to go when Ignacio wasn't paying as much attention, so that Richard could slip away without Ignacio having a chance to ask to tag along.

He also had to duck Viatrix, which was harder, but he knew Ignacio would be upset if he took the cat before the husband--

It wasn't that he didn't want to show the wonder to his husband. Richard had been to Encke's Comet--that was correct. Several times. Many times. But Richard didn't feel like his wonder was ready yet.

It was dusty, for one.

Trying a distraction, Richard snorted. "You didn't just take me to Encke to take me there. You might've also taken me o--"

Richard thought better of finishing his sentence at the last second. He coughed conspicuously, covering his mouth with his palm and ducking before Ignacio could have the chance to push him.

Livie might've been hesitating to call the Bells family so soon after everything had gone down, but she clearly didn't have the same issues when it came to treating their house like a home. The door clicked open and then shut. There was a brief pause where she slipped off of her shoes, but then she was charging into the living room with a pitter-patter of feet.

"Guys. Guys. Guys," she was calling out before she was even all the way in the room. Then she was sliding through the doorframe in her sock feet, clearly in the mode where she was all sparkly-eyed and almost vibrating with excitement. "Space. Is. Awesome."

As she noticed that there was some gaming going on, she did manage to take her volume down a couple of notches as she settled in cross-legged at the edge of the sofa and watched for a few seconds as the colorful carts darted around the screen.

"I mean, I guess space is kinda a big concept, but Nectaris is cool! Plus it didn't seem dangerous or anything so I guess you guys can come later if you want."

Ignacio's eyes noticably widened when Richard started down the path he had definitely started to go down, and he narrowed them as he started down the last lap, reaching over to unsuccessfully lightly push him before starting with, "Okay you. You could do the same if you'd--"

He suddenly cut himself off when he heard Livie, his eyes widening once again as he went right back to looking at the game. And then he wasn't looking at the game because she was mentioning her excitement and her interest in space and suddenly karting wasn't all that interesting after all.

Besides. It was 50cc. He was going to win without trying.

"Oh I knew you'd love it!!" He might have given Richard a glance when even Nectaris was ready to invite them to her wonder and it hadn't been several months, but the smile and the brightness in his eyes remained as he looked back to her and the kart went through its animated victory lap. "I'd love to come see it! What did you find?"

He had been to the moon, but never to a moon wonder, at least not yet.

"The moon seemed rather regal in the celestial theatre... Does that apply to your wonder? Or what else is there? Or--" he was getting ahead of himself in his excitement and quickly cut himself off with bouncing instead.

The corner of Richard’s mouth quirked up when he noticed Ignacio start his own comeback, and he hid the smirk behind his hand. He was perfectly willing to play into the banter Ignacio was supplying, especially if it distracted Ignacio from the fact that Richard had yet to take him to see Basiluzzo-the-wonder. But then he heard Livie’s arrival and saw Ignacio stop himself and turn back to the game.

He would tease Ignacio about the embarrassment, but later. For now, Richard turned to meet Livie’s enthusiasm. It hadn’t taken long for him to warm up to Livie. Granted, he tended to like everyone that felt safe enough to give a room in the main Bell household, but he couldn’t help the click with Livie’s energy.
To every ’guys’, he returned a grinning, "Livie! Livie! Livie!"

It was entirely unsurprising to him that she was as enthused about space as Ignacio was. And--he saw the look Ignacio gave him and elected to ignore it--she was inviting them to Nectaris. He jumped on the chance offered.

"If you're ready for us to come," mildly pointed, maybe, but not maliciously, "we'd love to come! Space is something I never thought I'd get to experience, but the whole senshi and knight thing has changed a lot." Ignacio's slew of questions was met with a chuckle from Richard. "Let her breathe, Ig." A wink her way. “My curiosity notwithstanding of course!”

Livie couldn't help giggling at the way Richard talked back to her.

She liked meeting new people, but sometimes she got that nagging anxiety voice in the back of her head that said she was gonna be too much for them or something, and it had spiked up a lot coming here 'cause said new people could kick her out of their house if they didn't like her.

It was kinda a relief to see that they were almost as energetic as she was.

"I dunno if I'd call it regal," she said, fidgeting with one of her bead bracelets so that she didn't bounce on the couch too much. "I mean, maybe, but it's pretty busted up, and also I have no idea what it was supposed to be. It's a mystery!"

She grinned. The mystery was the most exciting part.

"There's stained glass, though."

Her attention was still partly on the TV screen, and when the music changed, she said, "Oh, did you win? Can I play in the next one?"

Without another thought, Ignacio advanced to the next screen so it counted his coins, and then he passed the controller over to Livie. "I did, and you're welcome to have a shot! I've got most of the karts and motorcycles unlocked if you want to stay on my account, too." Unlike some people (his sister), he wasn't really that pressed about people earning things or potentially outranking him on his own account (like his sister, who had gotten upset the one time he three-starred something on her account for her)--

Once the controller was handed off, though, he was diving straight back into the so-called mystery.

"A mystery," he leaned in just a bit, definitely wanting to know more. "Busted up is pretty normal for the first time you've visited a wonder, I think. And it takes time, work, and maybe help from your friends," an incidental aside to Richard, because he had heard that ready hint, also not malicious, but perhaps making a point, "to get it out of that stage. And along the way, we can solve the mystery!"

Stained glass on the Moon was absolutely something he wanted to see. Would it reflect the Earthshine instead of the sun?

"Did you see what designs were on the stained glass? Maybe that'll give a hint as to the mystery of your wonder..."

For example, if there were depictions like one might see in a church, maybe it was some kind of religious place. Or if there was knotting designs, maybe it was a cultural thing--

Livie's giggles only made Richard's grin wider. He knew any experience with the Negaverse was tough, considering the way he was introduced to it via what had happened to Ignacio--and anything he could do to bring her some delight was the least he could do for her.

As Ignacio worked on advancing to the next menu, Richard nodded as she mentioned her wonder was pretty busted up. That would make sense, considering what he'd seen of his own wonder and what he'd heard about the whole concept in general. Then she mentioned a mystery, which was of course Richard's weakness. Despite having just encouraged Ignacio to give her a moment to think, he had to hold himself back from immediately diving in, himself. "I love mysteries."

He would agree that the mystery was the most exciting part.

"Ohh, stained glass." He chewed thoughtfully on his lower lip. "My wonder has a lot of glass, too. Or crystal, maybe? I'm not entirely sure, yet, but it catches the light in some interesting ways. I'd like to get it cleaned up a bit."

The extra enforcement was a response to Ignacio, of course.

"But, yeah, about the stained glass. That sounds really pretty. Is it in designs? What else did you see? Any other clues?"

Livie took the controller and went quiet for a couple of seconds as she went through the menu screens and picked out the cutest motorcycle she could find. Ignacio was hardly gonna have to worry about her unlocking things for him or beating his score, though. As soon as the actual level started up, she drove straight into a wall, and then managed to get turned around from that only to hit a banana peel.

She'd played video games before, but not really racing ones, and anyway, her mind was still barely on Earth.

"Yeah, there were patterns in the glass," she said. "Like, butterflies, and moons. Plus there were some abstract patterns in nice colors. Pretty much what you'd expect, looking at my Knight outfit. That wasn't really the mystery part, though. So, like-"

She tried talking with her hands, and bounced the motorcycle into a wall again.

"There's this big building that's all made of glass, but it's pretty much empty. Like, it doesn't even have walls in there, let alone, like, beds, or magical artifacts, or whatever."

With effort, she managed to stay on the road this time instead of looking over to Richard. "That sounds really cool!" she said, and then, actually innocent, with no idea that this was a point of contention, she added, "I wanna see!"

Richard may have wanted to polish it until it sparkled, but Ignacio wanted to see the glass, or crystal, or crystalline glass, or whatever it actually was no matter what state it was in. He heard the stubborn reinforcement of ready and found himself biting his tongue to resist asking when ready was going to happen, because he didn't care about the imperfections in Richard's wonder because it was space and also it was Richard's.

... especially because it was his Arra's.

He distracted himself from that urge by watching Livie's race, and offered some enthusiastic encouragement followed by-- "Butterflies and moons, fair enough." Ignacio chuckled. "Sounds like a fair match for you, honestly."

A big empty building made of glass. That did sound mysterious.

It wasn't an observational building of some sort, was it? Meant to keep people in and see their reactions to--

His thoughts jumped like a record scratch as he--much more easily than he used to--pulled himself out of a bad train of thoughts related to his death, instead pondering on what else it could be. Completely empty? "Was there anything on the ground? Like paths, dirt, or something?" He tapped his chin.

Of course, he was distracted by any further pondering on it by Livie saying, she, too, wanted to see Richard's wonder.

Perfect.

"I've been telling him the same thing!" Ignacio's voice was light and teasing. "All these little breadcrumbs he drops just make me more and more curious."

Richard chuckled gently when Livie found herself in a wall instead of on the race track, quietly showing how she could get herself out of the corner if she needed some assistance.

Okay, so the patterns in the stained glass didn't sound like a hint beyond the obvious. Nectaris' knight form seemed to be butterfly-themed--plus moon-themed for obvious reason--and the stained glass was primarily the same. Not enough to solve any mystery, but enough to confirm that she was probably dressed the way she was because her wonder involved butterflies.

A building made entirely of glass sounded like a useful clue, though, and he immediately started diving into what that could be. If it had something in it, it would give him an obvious direction. If there were benches, for example, he might theorize that perhaps it was some sort of ceremony space. That would match up with what he had heard of some wonders from Encke.

Then, of course, Livie asked her innocent question, and Ignacio not-so-innocently piggybacked off of it. The smile he shot in Ignacio's direction was a bit strained, but the one he shot over to Livie in response was considerably warmer. "I promise I'll take," he looked to Ignacio, "you both," back to Livie, "once it's ready for visitors, alright? I'd definitely love to share it with you. It's very cool."

He wasn't lying! He was just very specific about how he was going to get it done, and he only ever got one visit every two weeks, unlike his husband with his twice-a-week--

"Is the glass like window glass, or is it stained glass, or opaque?" Maybe that would give another clue and stop Ignacio from asking again.

It was becoming more and more clear that whatever Livie had done during the seven years she couldn't remember, it hadn't been anything that had really translated into racing game skills. Luckily her new housemates were being as supportive about this as they were about everything else, and under their careful coaching, Livie managed to avoid the next wall.

She even managed to sneak out of last place and right into second to last place.

"It's stained glass," she said, still somehow staying on the road. "Like, all the walls, all the ceiling. Stained glass. Inside, the floor was dirt, I think? There were some paths, and, like, some benches and some other broken things here and there."

She squeaked, not because of anything she'd seen on the moon, but because another banana peel had her spinning back into last place.

"That's all I really saw? Maybe I didn't look around for, like, clues, as much as I should have. I only really went into the one building, there were a couple of other ones and they weren't all glass. I just-"

She glanced away from the screen to smile at each of them. "I got really excited, I wanted to tell you guys all about it!" She looked at Richard for a second longer than Ignacio, lips quirked. "So, like, what do you have to do to get a Wonder ready? I wanna be able to take friends up as soon as I can."

Again, there was no malice there, no prodding, just a very, very earnest curiosity.

Eleventh place! Ignacio continued to be as supportive as ever, of course, and offered her an encouraging, "See, you're getting there!" even if getting there was at least not getting into walls and sliding around the twelfth place finisher--

And even if she followed that up with being attacked by a banana peel...

Stained glass everywhere, dirt paths, benches. Catching that Richard was trying to nudge him off the subject, he gave Richard an amused side-eye but let himself pursue the mystery nevertheless. What she described would have sounded somewhat religious if it wasn't for the dirt paths -- unless that was how people of the Moon were, he knew nothing of them so assuming it wasn't religious was a bit presumptuous. But what else could it be--

Wait. He could think of one place he had been to before that might suit it. A place with benches, with glass ceilings--though the stained glass was throwing that off a bit--with a lot of dirt... He looked to Richard to see if he was coming to a similar conclusion before asking, "Maybe a Botanical Gardens? Like a museum for plants."

The other buildings were not terribly likely to be anything like that, but.

Honestly, he did want to know the answer to Livie's question. It had been since September, and Richard went frequently enough that even if Ignacio always missed it, he knew he went. He knew Richard couldn't go as often as he did, but it baffled him to think it was still not ready even just for Ignacio to go. "Same question, honestly."

This time, he wasn't prodding quite so hard.

Richard whooped when Livie managed to get by one of the racers at the last minute. It was a start, and he was fully willing to sit next to her and keep encouraging that-- "Oh, watch out for the banana peel!"

It seemed that Ignacio was getting the hint for now, and Richard felt no small amount of relief. He wasn't budging on this, dammit, and Ignacio should know that by now--Richard didn't care if it had been months. He was quite happy to dive further into the mystery, opening with "That sounds really pretty," because it did, and he was excited to see it since she had invited him. Stained glass walls with benches and paths sounded like a place where he'd like to take a relaxing stroll. "I wonder if the other buildings might give a hint as to its overall purpose..."

By itself, though? The description made him think a bit of a barren garden center, or perhaps a religious place of observation--

His husband was looking at him and he found himself looking back at him. And then, he burst into laughter. "Ig, a museum for plants is just a museum." He wasn't disagreeing, though--

Her question afterward made him pause, and he rubbed his neck sheepishly. "You don't have to do anything to make it ready you don't want to. Wonders are individual, right?" So if she wanted to pursue letting people up at the stage she was at, she could. He sucked on his bottom lip, though, because he knew he couldn't let anyone up yet. Ignacio's endless asking was making him more stubborn about it, sure, but that wasn't really it. "For me, I want to get it cleaned up, but also, something is telling me it isn't ready yet."

He bounced in place.

"Like there's more to do."

"Okay, okay," said Livie, the tip of her tongue sticking out as she focused on getting around a curve without hitting any walls this time. "Got it. Banana peels are bad." The guys' enthusiasm was helping keep her invested even though she was objectively doing terribly. She did manage to scoot out of last place for a second time, though.

"How did you win this, Ig? You made it look easy, but, like, there's so much stuff flying at me."

She was getting used to the controls, though, and moving a little bit more steadily. She'd held a controller before, even if she hadn't played a game like this.

"And a garden, like, a greenhouse?" She hadn't been in many greenhouses, but now that she thought about it, that was what most buildings that were made with that much glass ended up being. Either that, or churches. They both had a point. "I mean, I guess that makes about as much sense as it being some kind of giant avant-garde space cathedral. Just, if it was a garden, you would think there would be some, uh. You know. Plants."

Otherwise it would be a really sad garden.

"Also, follow up question," she said, before biting her tongue while she got dangerously close to another wall. "Is there Knight Instagram? 'Cause, like, if there was Knight Instagram, you could put up before and after pictures of the places you clean, updates while you get the rest of it ready, all that stuff? If you don't want people going up yet, okay I guess, but, like. I want pictures, please."
