Hobbies:
Ren Faire -- If there is one thing Meru loves almost as much as she loves dragons it's renaissance faires. Brought to one when she was but a baby by her father, it set the stage for what Meru hoped to do with her life. Since that weekend ended she'd started prepping her persona and learning the skills needed to eventually take her place amongst the many workers.
Now she volunteers every year at the local ren faire, helping out at that many booths to cover breaks and trying to inspire other children (little girls in particular) to also get involved. Very really does she show up in anything but her usual gear, which is that of her elf/dragon born dancer. She tends to get a lot of compliments from little ones about the giant bow of her costume bottom and amazement that some one like her could lift a giant hammer.
Costuming -- Starting young, Meru knew if she wanted to take part in ren faires she needed at least one costume. And she wanted to be the one to make it. So with dedication to her future craft she began to learn how to costume. Clothing is her forte, from historical to fantastical and she even makes her own patterns that she can alter to make for others.
But she's also learning and perfecting her prop making as well, from both Warbla and EVA foam to starting to learn how to make props out of metal. Her most recent hammer make is mostly warbla and eva foam but now has some actual metal adorning it. One day she hopes to make a fully metal version, even if it's just for show.
She does take commissions for her costuming and has been known to help out with plays and other ventures that need costuming help.
Professional Elf -- Meru likes to think of herself as a professional elf, especially since she seems to never take the prosthetic ears off. She even has a instagram account dedicated to her elfin persona, Mayfil, that is updated at least once a day. She makes appearances, working and non, at ren faires and conventions and even can be hired out for birthday parties~
Collecting Dragons -- Meru wouldn't say she's much of a collector, unless you count art of Mayfil, but there's one thing she's collected that was started for her by her dad. Dragons. She's always had a fascination with them and it certainly hasn't changed as she got older. The only thing that has is the size and variation of her collection. Though a good portion of them are blue she's finally branching out into different colors, and all forms of dragons are viable for her collection.
Pros:
I'm your personal cheerleader! Upbeat-- Meru is nothing if not happy. She practically radiates happiness and sunshine and loves to share that happiness with the world. When things go wrong, not even just for herself, she's often there to point out the good that either came with the bad or that has shown itself because of it. She loves to lift the spirits of others, with jokes or songs or even just rambling as a means to distract.
She loves to give as much of her time as she can to others as well; be it volunteering to help plays, ren faires, or even conventions, or even picking up extra shifts at work if they really need her and she doesn't already have plans. She always has time to keep in touch with her family, help Isha out with the pigs if need be... The generosity of her time is really all she can afford but if it can take the weight off of someone's shoulders then that's good enough for her.
And you can bet, through it all, there's humming to be heard from Meru as she handles it all. Music soothes the savage beast, as the saying goes, perhaps it can soothe a bit of everyone's worries too.
Introducing, Mayfil the Dancer! Whimsical -- If there is one thing that Meru does it's stand out. Even in everyday clothes Meru always manages to draw eyes to her and if one were to ask... Well the elf ears really don't help.
Meru is prone to fantastical flights of fancy and imagination, using it to often incite good humor in others or to try and make friends. She loves to seek out new things, be it food/clothing/experiences and the more varieties the better. She loves to change things up and even if there's a laid out plan of where they're going, shake things up a bit. Especially if there's a store or restaurant she's never been to in the area.
Though her biggest venture yet was spending a day wondering Mayet in full costume and persona as Mayfil the Dancer, her elfin dancer persona often seen only at conventions or ren faires; or occasionally at birthday parties if hired to perform. She spent the entire day acting out of place and like she didn't know anyone and had a blast despite any weird or negative looks she got. She might do it again some time soon.
Cons:
Is there such a thing as too upbeat? Obnoxious -- As much as she tries to help Meru can be a little.... overzealous in her approaches and can rub people the wrong way because of it. She doesn't always see that her wanting to try and cheer people up or help them isn't wanted and it can make them aggravated at her as opposed to appreciative. Sometimes people want to be upset or cranky, or maybe her joke missed the mark or the timing was wrong. Sometimes the pitch is just this shy of wrong in her humming or maybe she butt in with advice one times too many.
She genuinely does mean well but sometimes it's just too much and when they get angry at her she tends to slink off in hopes of giving them time. Though she can be oblivious to when she's doing it, she is at least more self aware after the fact and has learned to apologize once things have calmed down. She's even started keeping around chocolates or candies to offer in addition to her apologies but sometimes it's not that easy. And that's okay. Maybe.
She just hopes she won't loose any friends in the process.
Meddle not in the affairs of dragons... Protective -- Much like the dragons she collects, Meru has her own hoard to protect. Though her hoard is less objects and more people. If she has formed even the smallest connection with her she consider you hers and she will ultimately fight to the death for you. No one harms in anyway that which is hers.
Regardless of what's happening she'll interject herself into whatever is going on to defend her person, taking the risks that come with it even if it means unintentionally hurting the feelings of the one she was trying to protect. As much as she is trying to be more aware of that happening by stepping in she knows that it has happened before and will likely continue to happen. She knows she cares a little too much.
The most "prized possession in her hoard" happens to be her cousin, Isha. She will literally throw herself to the wolves if need be to protect him. She even suggested finding the supposed friends who made him shave his head and threatened to fight them for him, though he turned her down regrettably.
She's weak against her family, however, and has yet to be able to stand up to them in any meaningful way as they can easily be overbearing as families are often want to be.
Notes of Interest:
Meru is 1/2 Japanese, 1/2 Indian. The Indian comes from her mother, her father is Japanese.
Isha Ansari is her beloved younger cousin though they're incredibly close. She thinks of him as the younger brother she never had and constantly calls him "brobro/bro-bro". Among other little nicknames.
Isha's guinea pigs are considered her nephews and she makes costumes for them for every holiday. She also loves to spoil them with organic snacks and the best alfalfa she can get. She loves to go to the farmer's market every weekend to see what she can find for her little pigs.
She tries not to play favourites but Pui is kind of her favourite. She does her best not to show it.
Meru loves water, is practically obsessed with it, and loves to swim.
Meru is multilingual.
Scent/perfume: oakmoss, sea moss, white moss, and olive leaf
General Appearance Meru stands 5'3", which is four inches shorter then she should be because how dare Isha be taller when she's the oldest of them?, and weighs about 110lbs which still puts her towards the lower end of the weight spectrum but she's working on that with building the muscles she needs to keep carrying her large hammer around. Her arms, at least, are pretty jacked.
She's fairly tan skinned, with a neutral undertone, with long light blue hair most often pulled back into a pony tail and intense magenta eyes. She is hardly ever seen without a pair of elf ear prosthetics to make it seem as if she has actual elf ears.
Clothing wise she mostly wears whatever is comfortable if she's not in her persona gear. She does have traditional wear used to family events and such, but doesn't wear them outside often for fear of ruining them. She favors short shorts, oversized shirts in either solid and bright colors or muted with designs on them, and is often seen in espadrille styled sandals; usually in black, blue, or gold- depending on what she's wearing.
Accessory wise she can occasionally be seen with a bow tied around her ponytail and a pair of round, gold rimmed glasses (also her face) perched on her head. And as mentioned above, never leaves home without her elf ears. Eventually she'll have piercings and a tattoo but she's still in the planning stages for those.
