Soquili’s Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day) 2021 Flaffle Open: September 30th, 2021 at Now Pm EST

Since Canada finally made Truth and Reconciliation Day a National event on September 30th, Soquili is putting on a flaffle! What is Truth and Reconciliation Day? It is a day dedicated to those children recently found in unmarked graves across Canada in Residential Schools. Started as a movement called Every Child Matters, people pressed the government and churches to allow the search of mass burial areas of passed on victims of the Residential School system. It is also a day to show respect to those who have survived Residential Schools and the many horrors Aboriginal children faced after being pulled away from their families.
Orange Shirt Day, which is what September 30th has been for years now, is a day where everyone wears an orange shirt to pay homage to Phyllis (Jack) Webstad who’s shiny new orange shirt had been taken from her on her first day of Residential School.

It means a lot to me, as a Canadian woman who is half Indigenous and as a quiet colourist with a lot of introverted problems. You have all touched my heart.

Thank you for this giveaway honoring such an important day for Canada and for educating us about Orange Shirt Day. I was unaware of this specific commemoration day and appreciate the awareness being raised.
