Meta Q&AThe Meta Q&A Thread is a public resource where players can post questions about the current meta! This thread should be used for questions specifically related to rules, environment, gameplay, or anything that relates to the meta. Questions that relate to the meta and are about specific player owned characters or plots should be directed to the shop mule, The Space Cauldron! If you have a general shop question not related to meta, please use the normal Management Q&A thread! Staff tries to respond to questions within 48 hours but we ask for patience for questions that may require detailed discussion. Please do not format your question or edit it after posting! Staff will reply beneath the question with a bolded response and will tip players to notify them when their question has been answered. Please make sure you quote The Space Cauldron when you post a question to make sure we don't miss anything!

Silly questions, but ones that I need in order to write some of my little dunce's bits and pieces!
1. I'm assuming Velencya has no oceans/rivers or lakes due to the synthetic nature of the planet and need to import everything. Does this mean that the world smells significantly different to how I imagine earth would smell to them?
For example; do they know or have they ever experienced pollution, and similarly would they have any concept of what 'fresh' air really is? (I'm assuming no to pollution due to how controlled the environment is but wanted to confirm).
Yes! The smell of pollution--and in general, most smells--would be foreign to them. They live in a very industrial, clean society. They are used to ‘clean’ air but it is more of a filtered air sort of cleanliness, and not the fresh air of nature. Smells like flowers, grass, and rain would be very new to them, as well as the smell of pollution.
2. Can Velencians safely eat any meat if they're of the vegan variety, or do they have the same challenges humans have when they sample meat after they haven't eaten it for a significant period of time? It says they can eat nearly anything without issue, but again, just wanted to be sure.
Velencians can eat meat if they choose; though it is not a requirement in their diets, it would not naturally have any adverse effects to their diet. However, players can choose for their characters to have difficulties adjusting to the affects on their body; if it is not a deliberate choice to make them sick from eating something, it is safe to assume they can eat typical human food without issue.
3. Are those who have the genetic defect allowed to be part of the expedition, or do we need all of them to not have that issue? (Not planning on this necessarily, more interested in the one above tbh)
If players want their character to have this defect, they are welcome to! The Vanguard would have come with supplies to accommodate them.
4. Romance allowed? Yes/No/Omg Be Professional please you know you have a job to do and you should be doing it like the description saaaaays?
The Vanguard should be very focused on their mission, but as long as it is ICly understood that they are failing mission objectives, it is fine to become romantically involved with anyone. Vanguardian romance would be more appropriate and accepted, but any Vanguardian entering a relationship or having romantic inclinations towards existing PCs simply needs to know that they are not supposed to be doing that. They should try to keep it a secret or risk being scolded by other members of the Vanguard.
5. For the purposes for the Meta are the cadets all regarded as 'inexperienced' and will therefore need to touch each individual they drain, or do they have the capacity to drain at the 5ft distance?
Players can choose if their Cadet is experienced or not but it would be acceptable for any of them to drain at the five foot distance!
6. Is Lyndin single? Asking on behalf of all alien enthusiasts. Ty.
yes
7. CAN THEY BE BROUGHT TO THE MOON?!
No; the Moon security systems don't seem to recognize them as an ally and immediately reject them.
8. Assuming Homeworld visits are ok too if the Order character decides it's ok?
Order characters can freely take them to their Homeworlds or Wonders!

Do people wanting RP just show up at the barrier like KNOCK KNOCK HI? Or is it to be assumed they are met in advance and told to wait before approaching?
Order characters looking to RP should show up at the barrier; while it is impossible for them to pass through, a Vanguardian can see them outside and come to greet them. Caedus and/or Lyndin are typically the most readily available but any member of the Vanguard can greet them. Vanguardians can pass through the barrier freely, but everyone else is repelled.
do the aliens have a waiting area going on because I'm sure they're going to get piles of senshi over the first few days. Or do they get 'tours' while they're waiting, or what?
There is no waiting area; all guests are expected to wait outside until greeted, but a Vanguardian is usually prepared in under a minute. Vanguardians should not bring anyone inside their base at present simply due to the dangers of setting up; while they know they are safe, they do not want to risk accidental harm to any Order character who might touch the wrong thing.
Is Caedus single?
and lonely

Did the Vanguard bring anything they can use for bargaining/bartering with allies in an attempt to persuade them to come to their side. Or alternatively, just objects/items that can be used in exchange for information etc?
Some characters ICly have a "What's in it for me?" take and it would be interesting to play with that dynamic. x3This would be up to the player! They would be permitted to bring a few additional, non-essential items with them on the trip to Earth but they likely wouldn’t have been approved to bring many superfluous items, and they would be discouraged from trading anything necessary to their well-being. They may have valuable gemstones, crystals, or resources that have monetary worth on Earth that they can trade; while they might be able to have something else to trade or barter with, players are encouraged to send in their ideas for more unique items and we can work with them!

Can I revise my Vanguardian's virtues / flaws list if they don't match up with how they're acting in play, so long as there's still the equal number of both?
Yes; if you make any changes to the profile outside of updating the RP Log, please just requote the mule!

The ComTechs can sync with Earth phones, so are they able to access the Internet? If not immediately, would it be possible for someone to sync them up with Earth's 'Database'?
While they wouldn’t initially know to connect to the internet, they could either connect to it after hearing about it, or could run a scan from their phone that would connect them.
Since we never got a proper answer on it, would the humans smell noticeably different from the Velencians?
Velencians do not use many fragrances, so they would typically have a very clean, neutral smell. Humans are around so many fragrances, such as soaps, shampoos, conditioners, perfumes, etc. that there may be a difference depending on what products the human uses. Velencians are less prone to physical strain so may produce less natural body odor, but they are also typically very hygienic anyway. At their base level, cleaned with only water, humans and Velencians would probably smell the same.

How do the aliens bathe?
On Velencya, they would use carefully recycled and filtered water. If there is a water shortage, or they are traveling, they may use a sterilized gel that is gentle on skin and can be used on hair. The gel will gently peel off after a minute of application and can be discarded afterwards. While there is usually water available on Velencya, any Velencians on Earth presently will have used the gel to stay clean during their travel to Earth, and have come prepared with extra in case the water supply is low.

If Valencians want to read something in English, will their translator take care of that in some way or will they have to learn written English on their own? I couldn't find this in the meta info thread -- sorry if it turns out i just missed it!
edit: OOPS i just remembered they use the same alphabet! But if you still have an extended answer it would be helpful.
The Velencian translators can translate text, however it is not a foolproof system. While it is highly effective in translating spoken words, there may be difficulties or text errors if an abnormal or artistic font is used. Text slang will not translate appropriately unless programmed directly, and the translator struggles to differentiate words that are spelled the same but have different meanings (like ‘tear’ as in a teardrop, or ‘tear’ as in tear paper). The more the translator is used, the more effective it will become, especially when it is corrected on errors it has misread. However, it can only translate English. It cannot translate languages such as those in textbooks on homeworlds or wonders.

Can ComTech be used when the human glamour is active?
Yes; ComTech can be used while in uniform or when using an Earth civilian glamour, but function will be slightly reduced while in civilian glamour. It cannot make a holographic screen while in civilian glamour, and it can only detect other members of the Vanguard on the GPS. All other features are still accessible.

What is the food like on Velencya? Plant based, yes, but are there signature dishes or is it more of a protein shake situation?
Gourmet or exuberantly prepared foods would be considered excessive; they are prepared to retain as many nutrients as possible. Though there are different flavors, the food on Velencya is still bland compared to Earth. They have minimal seasoning, but they can prepare food in a variety of ways. It would be reasonable to expect that food can be prepared as it is on Earth, it just wouldn't be anything flamboyant, anything supremely unhealthy, or anything that would produce excessive waste.

What color is Velencian blood? Is it visually different from human blood?
Velencian blood looks like human blood; while they are genetically different, it would be impossible to tell the difference by sight alone. They will all appear to have AB+ blood and can receive transfusions from any human donor, however they cannot donate blood to be put into a human.
How do Velencians process currency? Did they come to Earth with finances?
Velencians do not have standard currency; because they operate with a community mindset, everyone is taken care of and treated fairly. There is no competition for resources and the community mindset prioritizes the well-being of the world and the people. If someone needs anything in particular (such as to study or develop or research a subject of interest) they simply need to put in a request. If the resources are available, they will be distributed; if the resources are not available, they will attempt to acquire them as soon as possible.
The Vanguard came to Earth with supplies to take care of themselves so they do not need to make any Earth purchases, however some generous characters have left cash and universal gift cards in various amounts. Players can handwave that these were available on request with a brief description of how they work. Velencians may struggle with currency because they are not used to it; they are used to taking only what they need. On Velecya, there are no 'stores', only supplies; they simply walk in, take what they need, and leave. This may lead to confusion on Earth where there is an expectation of commerce.

Are Cadets expected to keep their civilian guise a secret from Order characters? Or is sharing civilian identities permitted between Velencians and Order characters?
Cadets do not have to keep their civilian guise a secret from Order characters and may freely share their civilian identities. They are still under commands to avoid 'getting too close' to anyone, but it is acceptable to share civilian identities with Order characters!
