⇨☾⇨This old grand hotel has another name that is rather proper but no one seems to call it that. Most locals simply call it the "Haunted Hotel" because of the number of ghost sightings. It is somewhat of a right of passage for tourists to stay for one night in the spooky old hotel. In classic Death City fashion, this is one of the few hotels available and is by far the largest. Some visitors can only stay for one night before running out screaming.

Chase stretched his arms overhead just to bend them behind his head and interlace his fingers. "Y'ain't s'posed to disturb thuh dead," he said with visible discomfort as he stuck his thumbs in the loops his jeans. He didn't look around the hotel fully, tipping his head down to gaze more sheepishly as if his meemaw was going to suddenly appear and berate him for having no manners. "Yer profess'r bett'r be right 'bout thuh kishin eggs 'round here." He lacked the ability to sense souls, and he didn't think Rogue was one of the sensing types, either. He worried his bottom lip as they traversed the hotel in the hopes of finding their target: some hotel-traversing serial killer named Jeffery Ethans or Jeremy Evans or something like that. Some sicko who liked to travel and spree-kill. Chase couldn't wait to set things right with Rogue on their first official mission together.
A candle fell off a dusty shelf somewhere in the room behind them and Chase nearly jumped out of his skin, transforming into a revolver instinctively as an adrenaline response. In revolver form, regardless of whether Rogue caught him or not, he'd take a moment to catch his breath. "Aah ain't oft'n moor scared than a lon'-tailed cat en a room fulla rockin' chairs. I swear it's jus' nerves." He hoped Rogue believed him and didn't want him to stay behind on this one, or worse, leave the academy as his partner. Chase only gave this a shot because of how amazing Rogue had been the day they'd met and he really wanted to help his Meister achieve his goals of making the world a better place.

⇨☾⇨ ROGUE ⇦☽⇦ Level 1 | One Star | Meister | Traditionalist | Explorer | 100/100 Spirit
⇨☾⇨Rogue walked through the halls of the harrowing hotel beside Chance and rolled his eye. "Be brave, Chance." This was all the illusionist meister had to say as he heard each of his footsteps creaking. When Chance transformed, Rogue instinctively caught the revolver in his hand and did not even so much as flinch at the crashing sound. Instead, he turned and glared at the candle on the floor before sarcastically quipping his partner. "So much for that, I reckon." Rogue said in reference to telling Chance to be brave. Rogue spoke with a slight drawl of his own that he inherited from his parents although it was not quite as thick as Chance's dixie diction. "The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge." The meister mumbled to himself as he walked the halls in the dark of the night. He made the quote in reference to their target, Jeremy Evans. This hotel was barely illuminated which he supposed just added to the mystery of the place.
⇨☾⇨Rogue would have left Chance behind on the mission if the pistol did not fit so perfectly in his hand as it did now. There was a bond that was unexplainable and beyond even the meister's comprehension. The moonlight from the hall's window glistened off the revolver as Chance's face would show through. "Now listen 'ere, I don't care how scared ya get, you listen to me. It's life or death. If I say jump, you say 'how high?' and that's final, y'hear?" His voice was clearly born from an education in the slums of Death City. He was assertive and blunt in his direction before looking away from Chance and walking deeper into the hotel. "We might not even find him, too damn dark." Rogue grumbled as he grabbed an antique candle and used a lighter to create a glow. He held Chance in one hand and his candle in the other as he continued his slow and careful pace.

Chance's brow furrowed at Rogue's expectations. "How high d'you reckon I need t' be able t' jump?" He wasn't sure he could clear that much distance since he didn't really do acrobatics past the age of ten. He mostly took up horse jockeying and a few other things. "Maybe if I could turn into a flashlight..." Chance joked. He wasn't sure if he should transform again, but when Rogue held a candle in the other hand, he figured Rogue was comfortable just like this. Perhaps, he even felt safe.
The hallway they were travelling down eventually hosted a bloody door. The door looked kicked-in at the door knob, given the rugged hole beside it, and was slightly ajar, but there was absolutely no noise coming from the other side. "M-maybe we ought to check thuh outside of thuh hotel again for 'im." He didn't want to disappoint Rogue, but it was difficult to feel brave when there was so much suspense. He had felt brave the first time they met because it had been the spur of the moment, because he was leaping into action at the sign of a threat to protect someone he'd thought was defenseless, but this? This was torture. He felt like anything could happen at any moment and he didn't like it. He was certainly trembling in Rogue's steady hand.
The trembling reached a climax as the silence stretched on and Chance accidentally set off his own trigger, firing through the door [ Gunshot | Level One | Tier 1 | Stamina ]. He sucked in a breath as he suddenly fired off, trying to think of an apology for Rogue, but a roar of rage cut through the air. The man on the other side of the room charged through them, intending to break through the door and into Rogue's face with a charged fist if the duo hadn't pushed it open in his exploration [ Tiger | Level 2 | Tier 1 | Stamina ].
Chance Gunshot | Level One | Tier 1 | Stamina This technique is the simple staple of the gunslinger. Simply point and shoot and apply the level of the technique you want to use. While gunshots are quick, they are able to be dodged by meisters, weapons, and witches alike.
Jeremy Tiger | Level 2 | Tier 1 | Stamina The user channels the ferocity of the tiger and folds their knuckles in such a way to form tiger claws. Energy leaves the martial artist's body and forms a protective cloak around them resembling tiger stripes. This armor lasts for two posts or until destroyed.

⇨☾⇨ ROGUE ⇦☽⇦ Level 1 | One Star | Meister | Traditionalist | Explorer | 70/100 Spirit
⇨☾⇨Rogue sighed at Chance's response to him. "It's just an expression." He still had yet to become accustomed to his partner's very literal interpretations. "I wish you'd turn into a bottle of pain killers for this headache you're givin' me." Rogue joked sharply as they walked toward a bloodied door. The smell of the blood and carnage was nauseating and disturbing as he felt the gun shaking in his hand. When Chance suddenly fired through the door there was no option for a sneak attack. Someone behind the door was immediately alerted and he could only assume that he was the murderer. Rogue jumped back from the door as quickly as he could and narrowly avoided collision with the fist. As he jumped back, he turned the knob of the door so that it would swing open with his movement and expose the killer to more gunfire. Rogue held up his revolver and pointed it at the target before pulling the trigger. "Fire!" His tone was clearly frustrated by Chance's earlier action as he landed on his feet after jumping away. Rogue then extended his left hand and released a beam of energy from it and through the candle in order to blast the target and inflict him with madness. As the beam of madness was fired, Rogue also generated a ball of energy that would distort the killer's vision and cause him to see Rogue fall through the floorboards as if glitching through the environment. In combination, the madness and illusions may ultimately cause enough confusion for Chance to land a shot.
𝖠𝖢𝖳𝖨𝖮𝖭𝖲 ⇨ Dodge | Level 2 | Tier 1 | Spirit Jumping away from the door. ⇨ Madness Sting | Level 1 | Tier 1 | Spirit The user holds a hand out and shoots a condense beam of Madness out. The aesthetic appearance of the attack can change into anything the user desires. The sting inflicts a raised tier of Madness on the opponent. ↯ Unsettling ↯ Regardless of the Madness tier of any opponents (or lack thereof), the user can generate baseball-sized abstract, incomprehensible visual-only illusions that confuse the opponent. This generation isn't an ability and doesn't cost an action, nor does it induce Madness, but it can cause confusion and distract opponents. These can be things like the untrackable 'eye squiggle' that some people get in the corner of their vision, but can also be things like vague doodles that can't be looked at directly or even visual glitches in the environment that fix themselves once the opponent(s) look at it.
Chance wasn't sure anyone could transform into medicine, but he didn't have much time to articulate his questions. Chance perked up as Rogue dodged out of the way and ordered him to fire. He did as he was instructed without further ado [ Gunshot | Level Two | Tier 1 | Stamina ]. The more powerful shot blasted Jeremy backwards and obliterated the door. "Yahoo! We got 'im dead tah rights!" He cheered, pumping a fist in the air within the metaphysical plane of his transformation.
The celebration was short lived as a kusarigama chain flew out of the darkened room and gripped Chance in his revolver form and ripped him from Rogue's grasp [ Ensared Reap | L1 | T1 ]. The chain flicked upward, launching Chance into the ceiling. On impact, he transformed back to his human form and then landed unsteadily on the balls of his feet, rocking forward onto this hands before he stood up. He brought a hand to the back of his head where he'd felt the ceiling mid-transformation. Chance heard the footsteps of Jeremy as he presumably moved through the dark room to attack them in the hall again and partially transformed his arm into a pistol barrel, shooting at the ground and reflecting a bullet into the man's chest [ Fancy Shootin' | L2 | T2 ].
The man slumped forward just in front of the two of them in the hallway, muttering something nonsensical in his growing madness. Chance couldn't sense souls, but he felt like the kishin egg's form was deteriorating from all the damage the two cowboys dealt. It seemed like he barely needed a nudge to complete dissipate before their very eyes, but a nervousness about this new partnership and about what this mission meant for the both of them stilled his hand from finishing off Jeremy himself.

⇨☾⇨ ROGUE ⇦☽⇦ Level 1 | One Star | Meister | Traditionalist | Explorer | 70/100 Spirit
⇨☾⇨Rogue was relieved that Chance was at least able to follow his instructions in this moment. The door was blasted through by a gunshot using a bullet made from Rogue's soul wavelength. The bullet of rosy energy created a sufficient blast. When Chance was ripped by his hands and slammed into the ceiling he grunted in anger. Then Chance fired a bullet into the floor which caused Rogue to be further frustrated until it ricocheted off the ground and hit Jeremy. Once Jeremy collapsed and Chance stayed his hand, Rogue glared at Chance's mercy. Rogue slowly stepped forward to finish him off. "A life for a life. You will perish." Rogue had palpable spite in his voice as he stopped just in front of the murderer. He placed both hands on his face before swiftly snapping his neck. The crack was visceral as Rogue stared mercilessly at him before he faded away and revealed his Kishin egg. "The evil soul." Rogue grabbed the soul and handed it to Chance and held no regard for what he just made Chance witness. "Eat this." He directed to Chance as he waited for him to absorb the soul.
⇨☾⇨Once Chance would eat the soul, Rogue immediately felt ever so slightly stronger. "Y'all need to get yourself under control for next time. You can't just fire randomly when you're scared. You gave us away. If you keep doing that you could really hurt someone." Rogue admonished his partner sternly. "If you don't git it together then I'm sending you back to Death." Rogue just shook his head after shaming Chance and just walked away. He was mad at Chance and also just wanted to get out of this creepy hotel.
𝖠𝖢𝖳𝖨𝖮𝖭𝖲 ⇨ Technique Name | Level | Tier | Resource Description here. ↯ Perk Name ↯ [ Description here. ]
Chance's breath caught in his throat as Rogue finished off Jeremy. He was frozen in place even as Rogue grabbed the soul and handed it to him. Did... Did Rogue really do that? He knew that they'd take care of evil people but he hadn't seen Rogue act so aggressively, so uninhibited, with his own hands. It just felt different when he was using Chance against someone else - like he himself was a buffer. It was weird. He ate the soul instead of articulating his thoughts.
The soul had an undefinable flavor. It was light and airy on his tongue, but it sat heavy in his stomach. Rogue's guilt-trip just made everything hard to process, and Chance let his head drop. "Death won' wan' nothin' tah do wit' me, I reckon. I didn' take none ah 'em Weapons courses before I met yuh." He adjusted his cowboy hat nervously. Really, if Rogue didn't want him, he'd have to go back to his parents and apologize for leaving. He'd have to go back to his awful classes to prepare him to be an honorable heir to the family, and he'd have to grease all these palms of socialites instead of seeing the world with Rogue.
"What can ah do?" He didn't know if Rogue wanted to run face first into another mission or do some classes or something else entirely.

⇨☾⇨ ROGUE ⇦☽⇦ Level 1 | One Star | Meister | Traditionalist | Explorer | 100/100 Spirit
⇨☾⇨Rogue felt his heart sink into his gut when Chance lamented that Death would not want him. He regretted being so harsh but he was conflicted given how serious of an error that Chance made. "I...whatever." He looked away in frustration as he kept walking out of the hotel. Once they were outside he began feeling a bit better with the freedom of the fresh air. Rogue was upset and unable to articulate his emotions without just making Chance feel worse. Why was this getting to him? Rogue had dismissed many partners in the past for misfiring like that or just being generally inadequate and annoying. Second chances are bullshit so why am I givin' him one? Rogue reasoned that perhaps because they could achieve soul resonance that he did not want to lose the opportunity. At least that was all that the vengeful peasant was able to admit to himself. As he walked with Chance through Death City he just stopped and sighed before pointing at a Canalway. "You see those folks down there? Years ago, that was me. Trust me, people like that get ******** over all the time. That's where all the crime happens, all the murder, like that b*****d back there. But there's more to it than that, y'see? These people are too worried about money to be free." Rogue started walking away and saw the DWMA a few miles in the distance. "So I'm sorry. That's why I'm so strict. One little mistake and you're dead. And good people will die because of you." Rogue still could not look at Chance and just rubbed the back of his neck. His tone was far less frustrated and enraged than it had been usually. "I...know what it feels like to not be wanted, too." He just looked over his shoulder before shaking his head. Rogue rubbed his forehead and just walked away. "Let's go to school and get some training done." He would only leave the area once Chance had plenty of time to adequately respond to him.

Chance followed Rogue and listened to every word. His heart ached for the people down where Rogue was gesturing, but he didn't know how to solve the problem. Rogue blamed money, but every good thing that had happened to Chance growing up had been because of money. Maybe he could spend his spare time teaching the people in Death City how to make investments like his parents did?
"Ah don' wan' good people tah die 'cause ah me. Ah swear, ah will work harder." He could understand Rogue just wanted Chance to help him protect other people. That was something they both had in common. He frowned at Rogue's confession, but then the Meister was carrying on towards the academy. Chance didn't want to risk making any more trouble, so he hurried along. "Ah will be the best gun in Death City, just yew wait!" He cheered along Rogue, pumping a fist in the air before lacing his hands behind his head as he walked alongside his partner. "We'll save all ovum good folks." He stared ahead at the academy as they approached it, but all he could see was Rogue and himself saving the day again and again.

⇨☾⇨ CASIMIR ⇦☽⇦ Level I | ☆ | Witch | Occultist | Outlaw | 90/100 Mana
⇨☾⇨Two students from the DWMA would be sent to the infamous Haunted Hotel in Death City to track down a bloodsucker. This bloodsucker was terrifying the guests at the hotel and the owners wanted him to be slain. Granted, all that could go wrong would go wrong at Death City's oldest hotel. However, guests waking up with bite marks on their neck each morning was quickly and obviously distressing. The hotel owners knew that there must be a bloodsucker roaming the halls but he had never been seen nor detected.
⇨☾⇨Casimir, the Count of Brovnik, had been staying in the hotel undercover for weeks. Each night he would feed on one of the human guests to sustain himself. Oh, how the count loathed being away from his fief in Arcana. Despite his minor nobility, he was still at the bottom rung of the Grand Coven. Thus, the Queen's orders were what they were and she wanted the bloodsucker in Death City. The vampire used the night to stalk the footsteps of DWMA students during their missions. However, he was unaware that the hotel owners had called the DWMA to the hotel. It was nighttime now and Count Casimir cloaked his form with a dark cloak of magic that hid his Witch soul from prying orbs. The child walked the halls of the hotel before eventually arriving in the grand lobby.

Lila sat by the window in her room, waiting for her partner to get settled at the hotel they were sent to. The purple haired Meister exhaled a stream of smoke while she stared with a bored expression out of the window. The smoke took the shape of Lord Death’s mask as the girl tapped her foot against the “No Smoking” sign placed beneath the window sill. Night rolled over the hotel as the Meister sat, contemplating their mission.
A vampire, supposedly. Lila narrowed her eyes as she reviewed the reports. “But why now?” She muttered to herself. “Could just be as simple as it’s an easy hunting ground…” At the thought of food, Lila could feel her stomach rumble in the silence of her room. With a sigh, she closed her folder and rose to her feet. Snuffing out her cigarette before placing it in a small paper envelope, before placing that in her jacket pocket, she walked out to grab some nourishment.
The halls were quiet at night, even more so with the rumors of a bloodsucker roaming the halls. It at least gave her a moment of peace as the Meister wandered into the lobby of the grand hotel. It was spacious, appearing even more so with the addition of only Lila and one other hotel guest. “Good evening.” She greeted him with a small wave as she went to the mess hall.

Well this was a fine how did you do. Her first real field trip outside of that god damned academy and they were chasing some kind of bloodsucker in one of the hotels in the city. Neon stepped foot out of the shower and was dressed in her usual get up, which was anything but professional for her partner's tastes. Although the former thug had detested the idea of being smashed with another person, she'd play nice for now but continue to not play nice with the girl named Lila. She sat down with her and would sit outside the room to smoke beside her. "Hope you don't mind a plus one, princess." That little pet name for her was a little teasing between the two of them, and it was a sign of comradery back with her old gang. Even in those brattish and scowling eyes, she hoped Lila couldn't see that bit of Madness prone behavior in her.
Another reason why they were paired.
At listening to Lila's question, she shrugged in response. "Hell if I know. Seems like some homeless bloodsucker who found shelter and a food source." Neon swung her body around to face Lila while flicking her cigarette between her fingers. "So we find him, squash him and then boom. Back home in no time." Lila's stomach would decide it was time to get going as she finished her cigarette and stuck it inside of a envelope. Neon finished hers in a more easy fashion, by tossing it out the window after wetting the tip down. And so, the two of them were off.
They were off to the cafe or whatever that had food. Despite the hotel being usually busy, it was pretty quiet for tonight. Neon followed behind while gazing around the hallways. "Pretty nice place for bein' a hole in the wall." The two arrived at the lobby of the hotel and spotted some kid standing alone. Lila said hi and she didn't want to ruin the guy's day. "Heya, squirt." she smirked, rustling his head of white hair. "Bit late out for you, ain't it?"

⇨☾⇨The centuries-old vampire, the feared count of Brovnik, a scourging bloodsucker in Death City, felt his hair being tussled by a teenager. His face was serious as he looked up to the taller young women who were now in his company. One of them asked the scion of the night if it was too late for him, scarcely past midnight! The audacity! Count Casimir wished that he could transform now and siphon their blood away, but he had to remain undercover. He smiled at the head pat despite his boiling ancient blood. His teeth were pearly white and lacked their fangs as he responded. "Hiya!" He greeted them with a thick Eastern European accent that was difficult to shed. His voice sounded youthful all the same, however. His face then became nervous and frightened on a dime. "This hotel is scary and I can't find my mom and dad. I'm in here because at least there's lights and other people." Casimir rubbed the back of his neck and licked his lips. These may be interpreted as quirks from nervousness, but in reality, he stared at the easy prey in front of him. He hungered as he thought of the blood running through their veins but did what he could to appear innocent, helpless. The hunter needed to deceive his prey.

The Meister had to stop to turn back to the boy, Neon made sure of that. Lila was about to chide her partner for messing with strangers, but thought better of it once the boy started to talk. Lila couldn’t tell if it was an ironic twist of fate, or pure coincidence, that he was dressed exactly like someone would think a vampire would be dressed. She decided on the latter as she knelt down to speak with him. “Aw, you poor thing.” She said. Lila’s stern expression shifted into a smile once she began putting into practice her bedside manner for patients. “Well, you did a good thing staying in one spot. Why don’t you lead me to your room, little guy? I’m sure it’s safer there than out here.”
Lila rose to her feet and gave the boy a quick once over. He didn’t seem like anything was off. But the lavender haired Meister noted a lack of bite marks along the neck that every other guest so far had reported. “The two of us are from the DWMA.” Lila continued, gesturing to herself and Neon. She flashed her school identification the same way a cop flashed their badge, to help put the boy at ease. “So I can keep you safe, while my partner tries to find your parents.” Lila gave Neon a look, hoping she knew to start at reception. “How’s that sound, mister…?”
