The Baneful Bog
User Image

╔════════════════════════════════════════════════════-∯-═════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗

In a remote region between the Promised lands the butterflies controlled and that of the wetlands the moths now inhabit lie a large stretch of swamp land. This region is known by many names, such as as the misty mire, baneful bog, sinister swamp, etc,. It is a treacherous land and the main "border" between moth and butterflies; the main reason why the moths were eventually able to escape their pursuers as such lands favor neither side and readily drags any to its muddy depths. The full extent of these swamps are unknown; many who have tried to chart it meet untimely ends, and even the well known paths can shift to seem entirely new depending on the season. The best advice is to go through here as quickly as one is able; those who linger tend to never leave. Even moving quickly, it takes many days of travel even with "good" weather conditions.

Recovery and report
╔════════════════════════════════════════════════════-∯-═════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗

Both Miserorum Venunum and Lucifer Lux would've received a letter from their tribe; the Tinea moths. The letter was short and simple, wasting no time in getting to the point and what was expected of them.

"You are to return to the tribe lands immediately and report in person what you have learned from this school and about the butterflies attending it. On your way back, you are to also locate a group headed by Leo Pugnus that had coming of age initiates with them. Only one adult had come back, and reports to have been separated in the bog. It is not likely they are alive, but confirm the deaths and bring back the bodies if able. There should be four in total."

The implication to the two moths for the latter half was simple; they needed to leave no trace in the swamps for the butterflies to follow. No extra details were given that were not necessary, as was moth way, in case of their own capture or of the letters. They would both know they were expected to commit this letter to memory, and to destroy it. They would also know why they had to do it; as they were replaceable given their current assignment. As for the former half...neither would know why they were being summoned to report in person, unless it was just convenience since they had the other task anyway.

The moths would be told to travel to a certain location just before the swamp for the necessary gear, and would arrive at dusk to the location. Time for this mission was the essence, even if it was not explicitly stated. As was moth tradition, they were expected to complete the mission first before returning; death before dishonor or failure.

Lux would be in her single room, when a knock went on her door. As soon as she opened it, the letter was on the ground. The wingless moth would quickly take it into her room. She would read the letter. She would then read it again. The third time, she would commit it to memory. She would take a small soldering tool she had for wires, and she would use the current in it to burn the paper. It looked as if she was drawing on it, but that was to get it all to turn into ash. Once it was ash, she would put half of it into the trash. The other half, she would put in the trash after a class. It could not end up in the same dumpster.

She would then message Miserorum "Meet here." She would then send a map pin for a shop just outside of town, she would also add a date and time. In fact, it was on the edge of town. She wasn't sure if he had gotten the same kind of message, but she wasn't going without someone who could fight in melee. Things didn't go well for her last time she was alone in melee. On the date that the put on the message, she would wait there for him. Her gun was on her side, and there was a bag filled with papers on her back. She hadn't had any run ins with butterflies. Her report would have to be on what she was learning from school that could help the tribe.

Misery would receive his message during a stroll through the outskirts as he wanted time for himself. The message had appeared silently in his path; a simple arrow pinning it to a tree. Looking around briefly, though he hardly expected the sender to remain, he would pick up the parchment and open it up to read it. His eyes would widen slightly as he took it in before settling to its usual apathetic look; masking the emotion he felt within at the letter. His hand would crumple the letter as it turned to a fist. It had been a very long time since he had heard from or seen the tribe; so long he could almost forget he was even part of the group. Almost. 'Why after so long...' he thought to himself with a mix of emotions. On the one hand, he sort of looked forward to seeing his home again. On the other...he remembered what it was like even when he was there, and the elders were not known for compassion or empathy. If they wanted him there, it was not merely for a social call; something had to have occurred or something was going to change with his mission. Of that he was sure, even if he had no proof for it. He just felt it would be so. The recovery mission was also a bit surprising to him, even if he internalized long ago he was expendable. He just hadn't expected them to be fine with the delay of the message reaching him to him actually getting there to even look. Judging by the letter, it was very likely whoever was left was dead; no one survived the bog long with its environment and denizens. He had a bad feeling about all of this.

Unaware of, but following similar steps, Misery would burn the parchment with a fire. Eyes enraptured by the sight as the important paper was slowly turned to ash; the process of being cleansed by flame was beautiful to him. He would wait for the fire to die out, lost in thought, before gathering the ashes. Half of which he would dump in a nearby stream to spread for miles in tiny pieces. The other half he would sprinkle occasionally on the ground on his way back to Beacon. He had also received a message at this time from Lucifer; telling him to meet somewhere on the outskirts of Vale at a certain time and date. 'Coincidence, or similar purpose?' he wondered, unsure of which way it was. It'd make sense to leave one of them behind if one was going. Elsewise he was unsure what would be important enough to pull both of them out. He would just respond with a checkmark, a symbol he learned to mean yes or done, before continuing on his way to Dove's dorm. There, he would leave a note saying he would be gone for a while due to something he had to take care of and to not attempt to look for him or contact him during that time. He would've left his scroll behind as well had he not needed it for mapping to the designated area of the meetup. Before he would go, he would pack all his weaponry and equipment. Living with a butterfly, he had no written reports per say; maybe some notes on the scroll, but the majority was in his mind. He did not trust having another source given his own circumstances.

'Let us hope I return.' he thought to nobody in particular but himself. He would depart his dorm, and follow the map to the designated area; arriving either on time or a minute or two afterwards. "Lux?" he would say in an articulated voice; not yelling, but in a way that his voice would carry a bit. He wanted to confirm whatever she wanted to speak of, and if they were indeed both going to be leaving on the mission, before he would start to make his way to tribe lands. A long journey to be certain...which was way haste was necessary. She would see him donned in the attire he left the tribe with (profile image) along with his cloak; only his katana was visible but that was because the rest of his weaponry was hidden inside it. He had a satchel as well, with a few basic supplies in it; primary food and water for the journey. Once he saw her, or was alerted to her presence, he would speak again. "Did you receive a letter as well?" he would ask bluntly if curiously of her. Specifically not naming who the letter was from; you never knew who may be listening.

Lux would be waiting, leaning against a tree. Her outfit looked like one for hiking, but had more of a Lunar moth design on it. She would pin up her sleeves, as not to drag on the ground. Once she saw, Miserorum, she would give a wave. It wasn't over enthused, but she was glad to see him. He would ask her about receiving a letter. "I did, and even if you hadn't gotten one, I would want you to accompany me." She would then give a light chuckle. "I don't exactly have the best record with melee combat." She hadn't yet told him that she lost her eye on a mission, as well as her wings.

"Let's get moving." She would then take out her scroll and remove the battery from it. While they needed it to communicate a little, they couldn't risk being followed by it. She would then put the scroll in her bag. They had to get to a meeting point for gear by dusk. Why they were sending a Diurnal moth to do so, she did not know. She would need to rely on Miserorum if she got too tired.

Miserorum had found Lux leaning against a tree in a hiking outfit a lunar moth design; appropriate attire at the very least given where their trek would take them through. Neither, unfortunately, had the advantage of wings for this journey; so there would be a decent deal of moving close to muck and all. After a wave and his own question, she would confirm she had received a letter as well. Even going to say that even if he hadn't, she still would've wanted him to come with her. This had piqued the moth's curiosity slightly; he wasn't exactly the most social moth there was. She would clarify, with a chuckle, that she did not have the best record with melee combat. Misery would nod his head in understanding and with a slight smile. He remembered her specialty was more ranged and invention, versus his more traditional up close and personal fighting style. They complimented each other well in battle, so it made sense why she would want a fellow moth like him to accompany her regardless. "That is certainly true. I would not be comfortable traveling through the bog alone even if I am better suited to close quarters," he would acknowledge and admit to her. For, as stoic as he was, he knew how deadly the bog was. She would then say they should get moving, and did the first step in ensuring they could not be followed. A step Miserorum copied as he too removed the battery from his scroll and placed both in his satchel. There was no contacting anyone else by scroll till the mission was over.

He himself was still a bit tired, it being a bit of time till dusk, but he would press on. He had to; the mission could not afford for him to wait now. He had also been slowly getting more used to being awake during his sleeping hours; not enough to make him anymore aware of the world, but enough to put one foot in front of the other. "Once we get the gear, we can rest a bit. It is better to go into the bog with rest rather than without; till then I am relying on you to stay alert," he would decide for them. Given he was awake at this hour, he would need the rest as well; if only to give a temporary buffer for when they traveled in there. While it would be a necessity, the shorter time they spent inside it (especially with rests) the better. "How have you been, Lux? It had been a while since our last meeting." he would ask curiously after a short time. While exchanging numbers in class, it had been a while since he had seen her in person again. Since they were going to be spending the next few days on this mission, he figured they may as well speak now while things were relatively safe rather than later.

[If we want to skip to reaching there, then include the below in your post. If we want to roleplay the in between, don't include this part]

After a long travel, where both moths were likely fairly tired even if it was not too hectic or too difficult a terrain, they would note the scenery changing around them. Trees had been plentiful at first, then sparse. The ground solid, lead littered, then empty. Then the ground would change; becoming soft and spongy. Small pools of water seemed to appear at random here. In the distance, they could see a new "forest" of trees. Only this time it was trees that thrived in water with large root systems. They could see the bog, and were soon to near it. Between them and the bog stood a large, dead tree. It's branches were long gone, and it smelled of decay. On the tree, the symbol of a moth was marked on it; and as they got close they could see a hole in the tree. This seemed to be the drop point for their supplies. Whoever reached inside would find two bags; each had survival supplies such as food, water, a map showing where the moths were last seen (relative to them as it had their start point), a hammock (for them to sleep above the ground), a knife, and a fire starter kit.

You're right, the swamp isn't safe enough to travel alone." She would make sure that they would move in a way that would not let them be tracked. Last thing she needed was Kamyu, or Sváfnir following her. Aya had been kidnapped at the end of the last mission. Lux was still curious if they would call her for that mission.

He would then ask to be more alert for him. She would need him to do the same for her when the darkness came. Their sleep trained into their very beings from the tribe. "Will you need to place a hand on me to follow me? I know how it is traveling at night for me." If he needed to place a hand on her, she would allow him to. He would ask then how she was doing, seeing they hadn't seen each other in a while. "Shortly after you were placed at Beacon, I was placed as well. I was fine with the placement, as it would give me access to books for personal project. However, my mission was to assist you in yours. Unfortunately, we didn't meet up until recently. I'll be there to help you from now on." She would then walk some more, in silence. "I had a pretty good team too. They were willing to help me come out of a cocoon of ignorance, though they got frustrated with my hate for butterflies. My team went on the Northshore mission." She would be silent for a bit. It was clear that she was trying to word what she was going to say. Then with a combination of anger and sadness, she would speak again. "Part of the mission included needing to turn a vehicle into a bomb to seal off a grimm pool. Everything was included, even directions. I would have been able to do it with ease, even finding the weak points in the design. However, as I was working on my own weapon, to make sure that everything would die in the cave, the Elder used her pet bird to peck at my hands, and told me I was not allowed to touch the bomb. Her being an Elder, I trusted her. However, she messed up and instead of 30 seconds to run, we had 10 seconds. No matter how fast I flew, it wasn't enough to get out of there..." Her finger would flip her finger blade open. She was getting out of hand. She couldn't be like this when they recanted the story to the Elders of their tribe. However, maybe she deserved to feel this way. Then she would remember the Grimm. She couldn't put him in trouble. She would flick the blade against her leg, drawing blood. She instantly felt better, but the anger and sadness didn't entirely leave her voice. "I lost my wings to the explosion. While I was in a lake, unable to move from the shock of the explosion, a Boarbatusk gouged out my eye. No one helped me get out, I still had to swim to shore. I nearly died there, and even my choice of picking a healer was taken by that Elder, as I had to have her treat my wounds."

"As for survival class...most of my job was done for me. It was frustrating, as I could not find any clues as to whom." She would then look back to him. "How has your time at Beacon been?"

✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘.✘
▄ ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄ ▄

Misery merely nodded appreciatively as Lux mentioned she would have come as well if he had asked her. He did not like to rely on anyone, but the swamp was something that necessitated it; so he was glad to have reliable aid in that regard. He would let Lux lead for the most part; trusting her with making sure they could not be traced. Once night fell, such a task would likely fall to him to ensure they could not be traced; from butterfly, beacon, or worse. As he mentioned she would be his eyes, or more specifically to be alert for him, she would ask if he would need to place his hand on her on her to follow given her own experience in traveling out of her time. He would shake his head at that. "Perhaps in the swamp, when the terrain is more uncertain and treacherous. For now I can manage well enough to follow if I stick close enough; I just cannot provide much alarm or detection for the time being," he would politely refuse the offer. He didn't want to be too much of a burden, and had the stubbornness enough to want to do this much on his own. He felt he was correct in that he could manage and there wasn't too much danger yet; not till they reached the swamp at the very least.

As he asked how she was doing, she would begin to relate things from the beginning of her entry to beacon. Not quite what he was asking, but given they had little else to do, he was content with hearing it out in full and made no sign for her to stop. She would explain how she was placed onto a team at Beacon, which she was fine with due to the resources afforded to her, but part of her mission was to assist him. 'My elusive nature did not help with that,' he thought to himself silently. He very much kept to himself and kept his own tracks covered wherever he went; and them being moths that were trained to live in two different times of day it was no surprise they did not meet up till the class itself. She would add though that she would be there to help him now; to which he gave her a soft smile for. It would be good to have a fellow moth in close contact again; it had been a long time. Even before his mission here given his own circumstances. She would go on to say she had a good team that helped her 'come out of her shell of ignorance' to which Misery raised his eyebrow at curiously in what she meant specifically by it. He did not find it odd they could not grasp the hate for butterflies, as he remembered Z all too eagerly siding with D when his own team first formed. So far, she had been the only butterfly he had seen.

Then she would mention a mission; if Misery recalled correctly it was the one a few teams of students went to with the help of the military here. Thankfully, his own team was not chosen as he had no interest himself; and even for a hermit like himself rumors flew in the school of how disastrous things had gone on that mission. He wasn't sure if Z had gone on it or not; he knew the butterfly hadn't at least. After mentioning the name, Lux would fall silent; he didn't press her though and just waited as he knew her to be finding the right way to express it. It clearly, however, was not as simple as what she had mentioned before. She would speak of making an explosive, something Misery knew little on, and how she had things under control until an Elder took over and shooed her away it seems; a choice that seemed to have been for worse as they had a shorter time till explosion. As she mentioned not being able to fly away fast enough, she would pause and draw her small blade. He was familiar with it; while he focused on physical pain as ecstasy to remove his negative emotions, her cutting herself led to her emptying herself of them. They could not afford Grimm to come to them, so he would keep a relatively neutral expression as she did what was needed to be done. He was still processing all that was said thus far when she mentioned what happened after the explosion; losing her wings, almost drowning, losing her eye which genuinely surprised Miserorum as he had not noticed anything in regards to it. If able, he would look to her eyes now to try and see any difference. She would explain how she had no aid and had to save herself, even being denied a choice of healer and having to let the elder who seemed to have cause the issue heal her. 'At the very least, the elder did not seem to fail in the healing,' he noticed to himself in a practical fashion. Unless this was more her efforts after; though judging by the detail of report given so far he felt the latter was not the case. It still made him wonder how she had an eye now though.

She would then go on to speak how in survival class, her own mission was mostly done for her; Misery recalling something went wrong but from the other group neither of them were part of. She would then go on to ask him of his own experience at Beacon. Before he would speak of his own stuff, he felt he should respond to some of what she had said. "Apologies, I had not noticed with your eye; you say you lost the eye but I see you with one now. Is it; is it of blood and bone, or more robotic? What of your team; they did not come to your aid of choice or due to the explosion?" he would ask of her curiously; being the main details he was curious on as the rest felt fairly straightforward for her story. After she answered, he would speak of his own experience. "My experience with my team was far different. You see, the school saw it fit I be on a team with a butterfly. Which, while it works for our mission...is hard to live with given their never ending positivity and optimism. I was close to killing her, would it not jeopardize my mission. I have yet to participate in any large or small scale mission for the school; besides avoiding the butterfly when I can and attending the classes here not much has been eventful on my end. I still have yet to find any other butterfly; least of all the one that caused my own injury...' he would comment neutrally on his own experiences, with a bit of annoyance in his tone in regards to the butterfly that got noticeably darker when he mentioned being unable to find any other butterflies, especially one in particular. Of their scouts, he knew there was one here that matched the description; or at least there was. He had yet to find such a butterfly. "During the mission, I am not quite sure what occurred. All I know is there seemed to be a decoy trap set for us in our part, and someone messed up in the group neither of us were part of. Besides felling some opponents amongst competent fighters, I know little else in detail of what occurred on the mission," he would add to explain his side as best he knew of survival class mission; before it seemed like a thought occurred to him as his eyes lit up slightly. "Have you had any luck in finding another butterfly; or...for a better option for the state of our wings...' he would ask curiously at first with a noticeably darker tone towards the end; he still dearly missed the use of his wings, and it had been a long time since he flew.

So far, I have noticed that it functions like my old eye. It can see the same way as it can with my semblance and as a faunus. She was tempted to take it out for him to hold in his hand. However, she needed to clean it every time that she removed it from the hole in her head. "I can show you once we go back to beacon." She would then think. "Aya, the fox faunus was more concentrating on vehicle that we were turning into a bomb. She didn't have time to correct the Elder. The Elder didn't trust me enough to do my job. However, I have proved that I can make and arm bombs now at least. The Blue haired man, Kamyu, he helped me once I swam out of the water."

Lux would listen as he told of his own experience of what it was like at beacon. She would give a light chuckle. " I can only imagine how bad that is. I have not found another butterfly at Beacon. I'm sorry you haven't found your mutilator, I truly am." She had a softness to her face. Then it would go hard at the question of if she had found a cure for their lack of flight. "I am doing my best to find a way to send us soaring once more. I have been looking into books in the Library, however, I can not find a single book about the anatomy of either of our kinds. I am thinking we may have to go robotic. However, I would tailor them do our needs so they can send us playing, and be our enemies downfall."

As Misery looked into Lux's eye, she would allow him and explain it was mechanical. Thankfully, relief on his face as she mentions it, she still had the same functions as a faunus; lack of night vision where they would travel would be a huge detriment. It was also good it functioned for her semblance as well; while he shared a similar dislike for technology as many of the tribe, he understood the use and need for this kind of thing. It made invalids like himself and Lux able to function and fight at full strength; even if he was still averse to any for himself. She would mention that she could show him once they went back to Beacon, to which he would nod with a smile. "I would like that; now is too dangerous, but it would be interesting to learn of it," he would add. Lux would then explain about her teammates; one being too focused on their vehicle to help her with the Elder, and the other helped her after she swam to shore. He would note she didn't mentioned another; perhaps she didn't have a full team like he did not. He saw no need to ask further on that; though he was glad she was given the chance later to prove her worth in bombs. "That is a useful technology to know; perhaps enough the tribe shall accept it as well," he would comment. The tribe was victory by any means; and as the most technologically savvy moth he knew, Lux was the ideal one to pass on such knowledge. He saw first hand how big explosions could be; with their hit and run tactics it could lead to a huge advantage against butterflies.

She would chuckle as he recounted his own experience there, being much less eventful than hers. She would sympathize by saying she could only imagine how bad it was for him, and that she was sorry she had not found another butterfly there. This was news that let him down slightly; he was still at square one for revenge. And in truth...over time it was not as bad as he expected with the butterfly. She still annoyed and bugged him, but...she was not as he expected for better or worse. He kept such thoughts to himself though; she was an outlier more than anything in his mind. He would smile slightly back to her a bit sadly, noting the softness on her face, before hers would harden as he asked about a better state for their wings. She explains she is doing her best, but there is no book or written knowledge found yet of their own anatomy. Stating they may have to go the robotics route; explaining she can tailor them to suit their needs be it play or battle. He would nod to it slightly; face a mix of emotions. While he understood the benefits to it, he still held a bit of technical aversion to such modifications to himself. But he also very much wished to fly again one day; it was just hard to beat back the beliefs of his people. "Let me know how it progresses, and if you have any luck in anatomy. I...am unsure yet if I shall go the robotic route truthfully but...the option is good and needed for our people," he would add a bit gloomily. He would go silent for a bit, clearly in thought, before asking something else. "How do you feel about going back home? Regardless of the circumstances; you can speak truthfully, this stays between us," he would ask of her seriously. While his life and being were dedicated to the tribe, he recalled his time there versus here. His connection to them had been..fading a bit. So he was curious how Lux felt; not that any of their feelings would change him from fulfilling his mission.

Even without her wings, her back muscles tensed and relaxed, as if she were fluttering. "It is useful. It would allow us to do more raids. Sadly, that puts me on the front lines..." She was saying that like it was a bad thing. She snapped out of that feeling. She hated that she was around people who discouraged technology. Even she was sent out not to gain knowledge, but to help find Butterflies.

He would then ask her to keep him updated on her work to make wings that would help them take the the skies once more. She wished that she could fly once again. It had been less time for her since her last flight, but it was marred with trauma and pain.He would then ask her how she felt about going back home. Even her antennae would droop. "I have enjoyed my time at Beacon. It has so much information that I am able to gather without leaving the Safety of the campus. It has been a relief to know that I do not have to sleep with one eye open, in case a Grimm gets by one of our watches. As for going home, I know I have failed on my mission to assist you, and I am not looking forward to the punishment that I shall receive for failing." She knew it would be a painful one. She was not able to draw calm from others hurting her, but she had to hurt herself. She would probably have to keep a straight face as wounds were opened over her body.
"How do you feel about going home? The same conditions apply with your answer."

As he followed after Lux, he would note the movements of her back muscles; understanding by their movements what it was meant to replicate. 'It would be nice to have viable wings to do that with again,' he thought to himself quietly. Lux would then speak, saying it would be useful as it could allow them to do more raids but it would put her on the frontlines again. He was curious why she sounded as if she disliked the idea though. 'Why does she not want to go back to battle against them?' he wondered quietly to himself. He wanted revenge against the ones who stripped him of his flight. Not to be relegated to fighting Grimm or to act as an informant from the school itself. Not to be an outcast anymore. He mentally shook off such thoughts for the time being though. While they both were outcasts, they also had their own differences even if the circumstances that led to it weren't too different. He would respect that and not ask further on it, for the time being. As he asked about her thoughts of going back to the tribe, he would note her antenna droop even before she spoke. She would explain that she has enjoyed the wealth of knowledge Beacon has provided her along with safety, as Miserorum knew all too well the dangers of their homeland. And, thinking on it, he could truthfully see how such a place would be better for her; it was a place that taught them to fight against Grimm, and Grimm were what took her wings. Aside from the obvious technological advances such a place had as well compared to their home.

She would also add that she expected punishment for failing to assist him on his mission. While he felt such measures were unneeded, as he had only found one in his time there, he knew his opinion would hold little sway. Truthfully, he also expected similar punishment as well; not as bad, but he knew the elders were expecting more than one butterfly in all honestly. And he had little to report on the one he knew of; he knew she went off on her own at times but he was uncertain if it was to meet with other butterflies or what. She would then ask him how he felt about going home, and he would stay silent for a minute or so in thought; trusting her to keep it between them but his own thoughts mixed in regards to going home. "Truthfully, I am uncertain. It shall be...bittersweet to see home again. Our status as outcasts has likely not changed, especially with our results. And I...fear to learn who yet lives and who has perished in the time we were away. While Beacon has not been ideal given I was placed on a team with a butterfly...my periods of isolation there is at least voluntary and by my choice. And I am not alone," he would say softly and thoughtfully as he continued to follow after Lux. Traveling a bit more reserved now, though open to conversation if it came up.

[Timeskip]
After a long travel, where both moths were likely fairly tired even if it was not too hectic or too difficult a terrain, they would note the scenery changing around them. The sky had darkened as the day wore on, and clouds began to fill it to darken it further. Thunder would be heard ominously in the distance, but for now it seemed a storm would still be some time if it made it here. They could see the bog, and were soon near it. Between them and the bog stood a large, dead tree. It's branches were long gone, and it smelled of decay. On the tree, the symbol of a moth was marked on it; and as they got close they could see a hole in the tree. This seemed to be the drop point for their supplies. Miserorum would let Lux be the one to gather the supplies as he kept watch around them. There would be two bags; each had survival supplies such as food, water, a map showing where the moths were last seen (relative to them as it had their start point), a hammock (for them to sleep above the ground), a knife, and a fire starter kit.

The isolation they felt in their tribe was not the same as they felt at Beacon. If they wanted to, they would be able to find someone. No one would ignore them, or fly to where they could not go. If they wished for peace, they would have it. "You are right, It's bittersweet."

She would keep moving in silence, as the day got darker, and her body was telling her to sleep. She would keep on. The swamp was getting closer, she could feel it in her sinus'. They would find a tree with a marking on it. She would look around, but Miserorum was on lookout. She would pull the materials out of the tree. She would look them over. They had a fire kit. She knew what it was for, their grim task. They had a map of where they had started their mission, then there were items for their "Comfort." They would not need to hunt, they were given an easier way to sleep away from the wetness of the area. She would pack her food and water rations into her bag, and tie the hammock under her bag. She would then hand him his supplies. "Quickly put yours away. We'll look for a resting spot as we keep moving." She would hang him the map. He would be in charge of moving them very soon. She would leave her senses open, in case something came for them.

Miserorum hadn't been surprised by Lux's answer. They were both similar in that way; both outcasts to their own tribe, but expected to serve nonetheless. The remainder of their travel would be in silence and guard; both of them lost to their own thoughts but keeping wary in case of attack. It was...surprisingly common, when he thought about it, whenever he was with the tribe or thinking of them. Keep to yourself and just do what needed to be done, which was a stark contrast from Beacon. He'd note the changing of the day and terrain; feeling a slight ominousness as their destination grew nearer. The realization that they were soon to enter a land that had claimed many a life as just the two of them, were expected to find other's remains, and then make it back to the tribe. It was a tall order with all the variables present, though he shook the thoughts from his mind. He needed to remain focused; there was no point in worrying or dwelling. He was given his mission, and he would carry it out no matter the difficulty. With that in mind, all second guessing and doubts faded as he had no choice in the matter. Eventually, they would come across a dead tree with the smell of rot to it; just before the bog. On it the symbol of a moth had been etched, and recently by the looks of it. Taking the chance to stand back a bit, Misery would focus on keeping an eye out for the area around them. They were in the open here so while it would be easy to spot them, it would also be easy to see anything headed there way. For now, all that pervaded this dead land was silence.

Misery would be broken from his silent guard by Lux offering him his supplies. As she instructed him, he merely nodded as he set his bag down and took a knee to get sorted. Carefully, he would get the map from her as well. As he looked through the bag, he would be surprised to see how well stocked they were. Food, water, fire starter kit, a knife, a backup map, and a hammock. It was a bit odd to him they would be so well stocked; he had expected sparser supplies truthfully. 'They truly want the dead dealt with swiftly. Though it begs the question; why us? Just because we are expendable or for some other purpose?' he wondered to himself. He would take a drink from the water supplies, and tuck the knife into his boot as a backup. He would follow similarly to Lux in tying the hammock under the bag as well. With that done, he would rise from his knee and look to the map. As expected, it would not be a straight shot. But by every bend and turn a landmark was mentioned to give them some reference. He nodded to himself as he studied it. "It seems they were last seen towards the center of the swamp. This is so detailed...Why wait for us to go look? Why couldn't they find them..." he spoke aloud, thinking more rhetorically than for an answer. If Lux were looking, she would see a moment of worry before it would fade from his features; masked in an apathetic look. "Lead the way. The silence here is unsettling, and too easy for us to be watched from afar," he would comment and look to her. He could guide her with the map and follow after as they went.

She had seen so many expressions in her time at beacon. Ones that she would never see in their tribe. She would release a small sigh. She would shoulder her bag once more. "This would be much easier by one of our flying brethren. Then again, they still think I have my mother's wings." a tone of sadness was in her voice.

She would start to walk, forward, trying to avoid the deeper areas of the wetlands. Try as she might, her training kept trying to kick in. She was getting very sleepy. She would start to stumble, missing a root that was jutting out. She would steady herself against a tree. She would start looking up in the trees, trying to find a place to sleep. She spotted a perfect place to rest. "May we rest here? I can hardly keep my eyes open..." If he agreed, she would unpack her hammock, eat a small bit of the rations, and drink the water ration for the time. If not, she would need guiding to a further area.
