Somewhere within Vale, lost and hidden away from any nearby cities or settlements, a towering _thing_ of muscle shambled and limped with a woman across its shoulder. A trail of blood followed the hateful, beastly growling that rumbled forth from the figure, and anyone that followed it would be able to easily keep up and see just what it was. A man, bloodied and blackened, with naught but a shroud on his head and a skirt over his legs. One arm hung limply against his side, and a broken leg dragged in the dirt as its foot was pointed backward.

Onward the man moved, clumsily and obviously blind, toward a large tree. Dropping to one knee, he did his best to prop the woman, who was revealing to be bleeding profusely from a large wound in her midsection, against it. He was of no help with her wound, as he had even less experience with these things than she did, but she was, reluctantly, someone he considered to be protected even if he was in no condition for another fight. The woman did what she could to bandage her gaping midsection, but having no way to actually close the wound meant it was likely a wasted effort without some savior.

Blue hair flowed from behind as she walked down the path in the forest. One perhaps would wonder what someone such as she was doing out there alone where dangerous grim tended to lurk, but in this day and age, many were capable fighters, and the large mechanical bag/box like looking thing on her back did look like it could be some sort of weapon. She was most likely more than able to keep her own with a handful of grimm. There was still the matter as to exactly why she was traveling. A huntress? Not in this case. She was merely someone who knew how to fight. She was however out for a reason. She had been sent out to gather intel from former Vacuo residents that now resided in vale, in the more wild areas trying to make it their home. Some from Vacuo found the larger city hard to adapt to, a being people used to harsh conditions they were capable at surviving out in the wild. In a way it was perhaps a good thing they had made such a decision as they could keep certain roadways clear allowing goods to travel safely through the country. She was not here for politics, nor was she debating it too hard, was just a thought that had come to her mind while on her own.

                                                              Snap.

Eszter froze in her place and swiftly turned to the sound of a twig breaking under weight. Hands out at her side she was ready to enter combat at a moments notice, but nothing came from between the trees. From her side energy formed into an owl totem and flew further into the woods. Eszter kept her ears focused on sounds near her while her eyes were in reality those of the owl. If grimm was in the area she had no desire to walk into a pack, or worse… a trap.

Further ahead her owl caught sight of two figures, one gravely wounded… and the other… what was the other. A grimm? No… maybe? It was not acting like a grimm. Before the owl could be spotted it vanished and Eszter’s vision returned to her own eyes. With caution, she walked towards the duo she had seen.

The towering brute merely stood where he was, faintly snarling as he kept his attention on his surroundings, listening for anything that dared to approach the woman he aimed to protect. As Eszter got closer to the pair, the wounded woman's keen eyes picked out the obviously out-of-place blue that was her hair as it swished and settled despite her successfully stealthy efforts so far. Calling out with a cough and chucking a small stone toward the mysterious figure, the woman alerted her comrade. "Nachthaut! Stranger!"

And like that, the tar-blackened monster turned to face where the stone thudded against a tree with a snarling shout. As his front met Eszter's eyes, it would become more apparent just what she would have to deal with. A breeze moved the man's shroud, but it seemed fixed to his face just under his eyes. His scarred body faintly glistened with sweat and blood, his injured leg dragging limply and grotesquely and he lumbered a few shaky steps toward Eszter's hiding place. "Whoever you are, show yourself! Slowly! You better not be one of those Faunus...", the woman ordered, struggling and failing to get to her feet, practically muttering the last part under her breath. At the mention of the word faunus, Nachthaut seemed to growl out with a visible hate.

The only reason she approached them with stealth was to avoid spooking, which could lead to drastic reactions. Calm approaches were the best if you wanted to avoid conflict, which was exactly what she was going for. She was noticed, to no surprise. As the woman lashed out at her, she emerged fully from the shadow of the trees, arms up in the air at the level of her head as a sign of submission. Her eyes gazed out calmly at the man, she didn't need to know him well to know what he was feeling. The strength of his confusion, pain... and anger... it was overwhelming. Eszter's movements slowed for a brief moment as she had to keep herself focused. She couldn't let his emotions effect her own, it would... turn out bad. Stay calm... keep calm...

"I mean no harm." She stated softly but loud enough for them to both hear her clearly. Her tone unthreatening. Staying in place she looked at the aggressive male then to the woman. "She is hurt. I can help." She had yet to answer the faunus inquiry. However hopefully they could see for themselves she was no faunus.

Eszter's words did nothing to sway Nachthaut's burgeoning primal reactions of fearful anger and distrust toward her, but he stopped limping toward her for now as his companion called out, "Nachthaut, let her come. Slowly. I'm in no condition to do anything, and neither are you..." She sounded remorseful and angry, tears welling up in her eyes, but whether it was from the pain or something else was up to debate. With a low growl and a huff of air escaping his nose in what sounded almost like a snort, he trusted his dying comrade's decision. "I don't know who you are, or what you want, but better explain yourself quick. We're not much in the way of trusting anyone after what the Cr-", she started, catching herself almost saying 'Crimson Fang' and that would have definitely sent Nachthaut into a rage. Grimacing at the memories, she continued, "What...they...did to us. But...we don't really have any choice like this."

Eszter remained calm, barely flinching as the large male made treatening sounds and motions, but it seemed his female companion could "control" him enough to not squash her at a moments sight. While she seemed calm on the surface, within she was pondering the situation, observing every detail she could in order to avoid the situation escalating further. These woods were littered with grimm. People like them were bound to attract unwanted attention. All the more reason for her to help them as soon as possible. While the man could probably fight, the woman.... she was in no condition to calm down.

Asking them to calm was bound to piss them off, after all they suffered, why would they be calm. They had every right to go through the emotions they needed, and so Eszter would allow it, she had a way to hide them from grimm.

Step by step she slowly made her way closer to the woman. "I am going to do something. It will hide us from grimm." Her gaze shifted to the male, as she figured he would be quick to attack seeing anything that seemed like a threat. So she warned him first. A violet red light began to glow near her, forming into a penguin totem, a pulse of calm energy radiated within a 2 meter bubble. "If we remain inside, grimm won't sense us." She explained as simply as possible. From the way the man grunted she wondered if his level of comprehesion was as it should? Trauma... could do a lot to a person.

Slowly she kneeled next to the woman, the one who seemed in charge of the two. "Will you let me see your wound?"

The woman had been struggling to hold onto life, and Eszter seemed determined to help, but they both had to face the reality that it would be a wasted effort. Shaking her head, the woman replied, "No...Don't- Don't bother with it. All our...friends, our family, I want to see them again. I'm just happy that we finally got our freedom, after all those years." Turning her head to stare at Nachthaut and the totem and a stray Boarbatusk as it stopped to look around before wandering away. Thankfully, Nachthaut didn't seem to notice it, being too fixed on what Eszter was doing. Weakly grabbing at Eszter's arm, the woman leaned in to whisper, "You obviously want to help, and maybe I'm making a huge mistake, but..." She trailed off, thinking hard about how to put it. "What the Crimson Fang did to him...He deserves someone to try and give him a normal life like everyone else, I just don't know if he's too far gone for it. As far as I know, he doesn't even have a name, but we had to have something to call him, and...well...just look at what they did to him, his skin's like an empty night." She clearly didn't have long left in her, calling out, "N-nachthaut...Please...Please go with this woman. I think you can trust her..."

The moment Eszter was able to get close she knew there wasn't much she could do for the woman. The wounds ran too deep. The blood rushed to fast. Even with her aura and her semblance it would take a miracle to make sure she survived. Perhaps if she had a solely healing focused semblance she could save her, but she had gone through enough death in her life to know when someone was doing everything to just stay alive a few more seconds. Eszter's eyes closed as it was explained to her what they had gone through. The Crimson Fang? That explained the Faunus inquiry from moments before. It was ironic that Eszter would come across someone who suffered like she had at the hands of Faunus. The difference was she didn't know if in her case it was the Crimson Fang or some other group. It didn't matter to her.

"I'll... do my best" she stated calmly and reassuringly to the woman. Her eyes glanced over towards the man as it became clear he had his humanity stripped from him, perhaps from a very young age. Now... it was up to him if he wanted to leave.

Hearing the woman that was the last of their group, the people that had escaped with him and saved his life more than once since then, tell him that she trusted the stranger sent shivers of unease through his body. He felt how she was dying when he was carrying her, the blood loss and pain surely must have made her delirious. But...but that woman was the last of the people that seemed to genuinely care about him, and not only because he was an imposing figure to keep most strangers away along with his savage nature and brute strength.

Pushing down his well-rooted fears and hate for a few mere moments, he did consider Eszter to be his best option. He was blind, and injured, and had no idea how to actually survive in the wilds on his own. Turning toward the two, he groaned and growled, almost like he was trying to say something. Shambling closer, he had his unbroken arm tentatively reaching out, searching around the empty air for Eszter's form. It seemed like he was agreeing, wanting her to guide him, at least for now.

It seemed things were going to go her way in the sense she managed to calm the other one down. She could feel him less agitated from when she had first arrived. Smiling softly she approached him slowly, her hand gently coming into contact with his own arm. Why was she smiling if he couldn’t see her? She believed he could feel it, or something along those lines. There was a difference when people spoke with a smile versus when they didn’t. ”Hello. My name is Eszter. I am going to take you somewhere you can relax, be safe, and recover.” Her tone was gentle, soothing, like a mother easing an upset child.

Her totem for concealment faded away and was replaced with another, a Swan. Her aura radiated around the area it hovered above, which was focused on the man. He would begin to feel a shift in his pain and in his wounds. This would not work miracles but, it would help heal and stop him from bleeding further. Enough to ensure they would make it back to civilization.

                                                              ”Follow me.”

Eszter stated, her hand still on his arm, just enough to serve as a guide as she slowly began to walk away from the dying woman. It would be easier for her to move onto the next life if she were not being watched as she passed. Nothing left for her to hold onto. As they walked she kept her swan totem active. He needed healing and so she was going to give all she could while they traveled.

Her voice, it was oddly calming, a tone he seemed to recognize but...but just from who or what or when, he couldn't remember. He was too far gone from his time as a slave, made to fight and kill every day. That was all he knew, how to kill, that monster they made him was who he was and all that he would likely ever be. Letting out an odd growl, it sounded...almost like he was trying to say something, using words, but just what was indecipherable. He'd keep trying for a few more moments, before going silent again.

Nachthaut would let Eszter guide him through the forest, trusting her to lead them away from the abundant dangers of lingering Grimm. He wouldn't be about to move very far very quickly with the way his leg was, and if she had anything to use to deal with that then now was the time. He may have been a threatening sight and rather hostile, but he was doing his best to not lash out at her against his instincts. She'd likely be able to move his leg back into place without much reaction on his part with the way he soldiered on as if it weren't in such a gut-wrenching state, stumbling and staggering about as often as one would expect. Of course, just how much of that was from Eszter's Swan or his own conditioning was anyone's guess, but at least her steady healing kept him from bleeding out internally as he constantly reopened wounds and giving them no chance to heal.

After they were a bit way’s from the woman so she could let herself move onto the next life in peace, Eszter stopped. She could feel the male’s struggle in walking and her totem and her own aura could only help him heal so much. Still, she would keep it active as long as possible so he wouldn’t have to struggle even more. ”Let us rest for a bit,” She explained calmly as she took a step back from him, her eyes looking over his body. No wonder it was a lot of effort for him, he was in terrible shape. How had he managed to survive? Was he able to use abilities he did not know existed? It didn’t matter, she just needed to focus on dressing his wounds and creating stents so his legs would have help in supporting his large heavy frame.

”I am going to dress your wounds,” she explained before making any drastic motion. She had some gaze on her, she just needed a stick to work as a stent. Luckily they were in the woods, they were surrounded by lots of potential stents. Moving over to the closest tree she activated another totem her hummingbird (the healing one remained around near the male) which used its wings to slice at a few branches for Eszter to use. Collecting them and no longer needing the hummigbird it vanished.

Kneeling in front of her male travelling companion after asking him to sit, she began to dress his wounds and make stents for the limbs that needed it. ”This may sting” she said as a warning before getting started.

As Eszter told them they were going to rest, he let out a groan that almost sounded agreeable, but was otherwise unresponsive as he stood there with most of his weight on his good leg. When she summoned another totem, he followed the sounds it made as it fluttered and soared and sliced branches, turning his head to follow Eszter walking and collecting them from the ground. When she asked him to sit and warned him that 'this may sting', Nachthaut slowly knelt on his good leg before shifting back to sit on his rear, leaving his legs spread and his hands between his knees. Up close like this, she could very clearly see bits of bones peeking through his forearm and just how bad his leg from the knee down was turned almost all the way in the opposite direction with a very clear break not far below his knee.

As she did what she could, he seemed to pay it no mind despite how much pain twisting and getting bones re-aligned should be putting him in. Just how dead was his sense of pain? He didn't even flinch at her touching at his wounds, was this man even human?!

The sight before her was not a pretty one. How had he managed to come so far in such a condition? The bone coming out of his skin caused a gag reflex, a hand coming to her mouth as she held it back. Getting sick was not going to do either of them any good. The question now was, how the hell was she going to help him? She knew some first aid due to her training at Beacon, but she was no official nurse or doctor, she could make mistakes. But leaving his bone sticking out… that was going to end up bad. Infection to the bones were hard to deal with. It was perhaps better for him if she delt with pushing it inside for the time being then allowing doctors later to adjust it if it was slightly off? This… was not how she had imagined her day would end up.

After some time she finished the job. Her appetite for food ruined for a good few days, but he was patched up and hopefully, he would be able to move with more ease and less pain. If he did feel pain. She was starting to wonder if he was unable to feel to the degree he should, his lack of reaction towards what she did was… baffling.

Standing up she ignored the blood stains on her clothing, merely using some water from a bottle to take it off her hands for hygienic reasons. ”Shall we keep going? Beacon Academy is not too much further away. Perhaps a day or two depending on how our travels go. Maybe we will get lucky and find a faster means of getting there.”

After Eszter had finished doing what she could, he pulled himself up to his feet, practically digging his fingers into the hard dirt and putting his weight on all fours before he stood straight to rest more of his weight on his good leg. With his leg wrapped and braced back how it should be, he'd be able to actually move instead of the dragging limp he had been doing earlier. Hearing her ready to continue, Nachthaut let her lead the way, pushing himself to keep a rushing pace alongside her.

Indeed their travels were uneventful, reaching the entrance to Vale City only to be stopped by rightfully cautious city guards. "Stop where you are!", one called out as the pair came into view, raising their weapon as they continued, "Who or what is that...thing with you, Miss Sasan? Is that the monster those rumors are about?!" It was obviously up to her to explain and negotiate their way inside.
