Past Life

In his past life, he was known as Draven Ridleey Arren Reed.
Borne a citizen of Phact he was the eldest child to a couple who lived near the outskirts of the main city. They were not poor but they were not wealthy either, managing to get by while still putting food on the table. However, an illness swept through the area and medical aid was not offered quickly enough.
By the time the doctor was able to come to visit their home his younger sister had died and in her grief, Draven's mother became ill and passed away shortly after. This left him in the care of his father who turned from a hard-working man to one of anger at the capital for not doing enough to save his family. Consumed by grief and anger he lost his job and turned to alcohol as a means of coping but it often left him in a clumsy stupor that was quick to throw a fist.
Draven was fearful of the man but this was the only family he had left. Despite the abuse, he did not turn to neighbors for help and tried to help his father see reason. It was a fruitless effort and eventually one of the shopkeepers in the nearby market finally had enough. A former friend of his mother, the woman reached out to the guard and informed them of his situation. They intervened, albeit too late.
Lost in a blind rage, the guards entered their home in time to see the young boy lying prone on the floor, a steady stream of blood flowing from the side of his head where he likely hit the corner of the table. There were visible bruises on his body and after a quick glance, the knight noticed that his leg was twisted in the wrong angle. Without thinking, Draven's father turned on the intruders and was immediately cut down for his attempted assault.
Without a living relative left to care for him, he was taken with the guards to the main capital and cared for by the doctors until he was able to move around freely again. There was a fear that he had lost sight in his left eye due to the injury he sustained but Draven surprised everyone when it turned out that he could still see.
An outcast with nowhere to go, he was adopted by the knights and joined the other orphans who were trained to serve the capitol. Although he had never wielded a weapon before, he had a natural talent for the sword and after his leg had healed completely Draven proved to be rather quick on his feet. It confused his instructors 'why would someone who moves so fluidly take a beating from a man instead of run away.' the answer, however, was simple enough. He knew, that if he ran, his father would turn that anger on someone else, someone innocent and he did not want anyone else to get hurt.
It was hard for Draven to make friends but there were at least two other boys that he connected with on some level.
Rarely was he ever outspoken or vocal about his capabilities or concerns. If an instructor told him to do something he would do it without complained to the best of his abilities. However, if it was beyond his capabilities he would rather struggle through it then ask for help, that unfortunately was his biggest flaw but also an admirable virtue as it showed his willingness to fight on and never give up.
When it came time for the Knights to pick a Squire a tournament was held and while there were other competitors older than him, including his rival Zakai, Dravite held his own to the best of his ability. He did not win, however, but that didn't mean much as it was more a measure of ones growth and not where you rank in line.
Mathias, one of the most respected knights who had at one point been a Knight of Acrucis, approached Dravite and chose him to join a more specialized guard. Rather than being tasked with protecting the citizens of Phact, he would have a more important duty to uphold.
Phact itself was a thriving world but it had not had a guardian senshi or even seen a dove in over 1000 years. There was a prophecy that said the next Guardian would bring about the destruction of their world and so the temple where the last Senshi had been laid to rest was carefully guarded to prevent the next one in line to awaken... Unfortunately, you cannot fight destiny.
While he was still in training under Mathias' careful watch, Elena had wandered into the temple and set off a chain of events that would find her imprisoned on her own world, where friends and family turned on her and demanded her death.
Her home was no longer safe and in an attempt to save her life, Mathias helped the two escape and Draven was left to fight for both their lives as they traveled from one world to the next until they arrived at their final destination, Acrucis. Years went by during this time and on more than one occasion, the shadows of their past caught up to them as Zakai led a group of knights to hunt them down. However, Acrucis was a war neutral territory and for a time the two were safe.
Unfortunately, good things rarely last, and Elena, once she was older and wiser, she made the decision to return to their world, their home and to save her people. By sacrificing herself the citizens of Phact all turned to doves and were able to fly away to nearby worlds and were given a chance to start over. Dravite, however, remained.
All had become quiet…
as the last pair of doves flew to a haven...
far beyond this forsaken world.
All but one remained
A guardian who had sworn his life to protect the one fates knew he could not...
Streets that had once been full of life with merchants selling their wares and smells so delicious you’d think you had died and gone to heaven had become cold and desolate. Dry winds whipped between stalls knocking over wicker baskets that had been abandoned, their contents littered the ground he trod upon before being carried away like a tumbleweed across the arid desert sands.
Selfish….
As long as they lived…
Her life did not matter…
But to him it did...
Even in death he remained by her side; lost, without a purpose. Left to recount the memories they had shared and even those that came before the two were destined to meet.
In the moments before the haze of sleep overtook Elena in her final moments he had held her close as she sacrificed herself to save the people of their world from the prophecy that would have inevitably claimed them all. For years their home was dying, even after fleeing the forsaken land the final grains of sand continued to slip through the hourglass unrelenting to the pleas of its people.
World's perish, it is a fact of life…But what is one life compared to the many that could be saved?
Everything… or nothing
It depends on who is answering the question.
It took a strength he did not know he had to finally walk away. To close the door behind him so Elena could finally rest in peace. The temple to his back, it’s shadow chasing him as he wandered through the city aimlessly. Very little had changed in their absence and yet everything looked and felt so foreign.
A sharp gust of wind blew past, whipping his hair across his face and causing doors that had been left open in haste to slam shut, yet he did not react. He was a man merely existing with nothing left to lose and nothing left to live for.
