The day dawned cloudy but warm, and Xaawo was up with the sun. She worked quietly until lunchtime, shaking her head and shrugging whenever someone asked what she was up to. Anyone who chose to watch would see her arranging walls of dirt, gathering stones, and lashing together temporary signs.
Finally, a few hours into the afternoon, the youngling stood, sighed, and dusted her hands off on her thighs. She raised her voice and said,
"Come here everybody! I'm having a party!"
before jogging back over to where she had left her paints.

Following her announcement, Xaawo sat on the ground near her paints and waited patiently for her first victim. When someone took a seat opposite her, she nodded shallowly and asked them, "Swirly, blocky, dotty, or a picture?"
Quote: So, which is it? Swirly, blocky, dotty, or a picture? XD
If you'd like your character's face painted, please RP their approach and quote Smerdle with your answer to this very important question! If you'd like to let fate decide, roll a 1d4 in your post instead. Feel free to move on after your initial post. The face paint interaction will be kind of timey-wimey and I don't want anyone feeling like they can't RP elsewhere while they wait!
You'll receive a simple headshot of your character for participating!

A pile of stones sits at the edge of the water, alongside a sign that reads COUNT YOUR SKIPS. 3 TRIES in childish, but neat, handwriting. Knowing Xaawo, she expects you to come to her with your score once you're done.
Quote: It's time to skip some stones! If you would like to give it a shot, roll 1d10 in three separate posts and RP out each attempt. The numbers you roll equal the number of skips your character managed that turn.
When you are done, find Xaawo and tell her your total score. (hint: she's painting faces hur hur hur) If your character is the type to try fudging their score, roll 1d20 along with your post. Be sure to quote Smerdle! Xaawo will counter-roll. If she rolls higher than your character, she probably didn't believe them. What that means for the leaderboard is anyone's guess!
There are no prizes here, just bragging rights! Quote: Wangui - 19 Zinnia - 15 Ylva - 12

Next to a crude but secure maze there's another sign. This one reads PICK ONE. Six alinare scamper around one end of the maze. They're very cute.
Quote: Close to the end of the festivities, Xaawo will let the alinare loose into the maze. Whichever one reaches the end and escapes first wins! Bet on one of them for funsies! Be sure to quote Smerdle when you do.
The alinare are:
1) White with gray spots 2) Dark brown 3) White with a gray tail 4) Black with white feet 5) Gray 6) Half tan, half white
I have no idea if there will be a prize for this. Probably not. XD

Wangui was wandering, but when wasn't she wandering. She was flighty at best, and easily distracted by the colors, shapes, sounds, and smells of her home isle. Even at her young age, she would brag that she had explored every inch of her home (even if that might not have been the case). No one needed to know, but in her heart she knew she was well traveled and proud of it.
As it was, she was currently moving around the camp whistling a nonsense tune. Her mothers encouraged the noise, because at least then they could possibly find her if they followed it. Wangui just loved the sense of making noise, making music and filling the silence. Silence soon broken by a shout across the clearing. Golden eyes narrowed slightly as Wangui nearly salivated with curiosity. An adventure was brewing, and she wasn't one to shy away.
Racing across the clearing toward Xaawo, she slowed as she approached the fellow bloom. They knew each other, of course, but Wangui tended to get lost in her own thing than spend too much time with her other sisters. As she walked the final steps toward Xaawo, she tried to recall what she knew of the other girl. Quiet. Private. Wangui didn't know much at all.
"Party?" She asked out loud, her eyes trailing to the paints that surrounded the other girl. She was creative too, well creative in a different way. Wangui sat down where directed and narrowed her eyes at the questions.
"Dotty." She replied, like Hesperia. Wangui gave a half smile at the other girl, curious and excited to see what might come from the interaction.

Ylva had spent the morning banging around at home, giving her poor parents no chances to rest whatsoever. By now, they had grown used to her incessant need for an energy outlet. They had more than come to terms with how endlessly noisy her presence could be, and they loved her for it. But that didn't mean they didn't still leap at any chance to distract her, and so when word got out that one of the other young Vandrea was having a party, they were more than happy to let her dash outside to join the fray. Ylva scampered up the booths, recognizing the two others who were there. It was hard not to know all their faces when there were so few of them, and Ylva felt quite proud of herself when she remembered both of their names. She skidded to a stop by the face-painting station, bouncing eagerly on her toes, knobbly knees knocking together once in a while when she bent them a bit too much on the downward bounce. There hadn't been time yet for her to take a look at all the other things that Xaawo had set up, and she was all but fidgeting as she peered eagerly at the paints. "Hi!!" she said enthusiastically to both Wangui and Xaawo. "This is great idea. Uhm, I don't know what to pick, so whatever you think will look good, please!" Ylva beamed, smushing her little palms together.

Zinnia had spent the morning helping her sister, Shendaia, with chores around their home and she was eager for a change of pace. She was scrubbing the dishes from their lunch now with Dashiki and hearing the voice of one of her fellow Vandrea sisters ignited her curiosity. Practically humming with anticipation she turned to her mother and asked, “Please, please, please can I go?” Her mother laughed and nodded, any means of getting this active girl to burn some energy was a welcome reprieve. Like a flash, Zinnia was off with a huge smile and rushed down the path towards the other girls.
She flitted from sign to sign, looking in awe and excitement at each of the activities that had been prepared. Some of her Sisters were already gathered near the face painting, and not being one with the patience to wait, she clapped her hands and reached for a stone. She truly was a sucker for games of skill. She rolled her shoulders, planted her little feet squarely along the shore, and tossed her first stone to see a satisfying four skips before it disappeared beneath the surface.

Zinnia placed her hands on her hips and with a self-satisfied smile noted, “Hmm, not bad”. She bent down to scoop up a second stone from the pile and squared up again to see if she could best her last toss. “Hiya!” with a shout she let loose the stone, and with a 1-2-3 the stone sank. Her antennae drooped and she scrunched her mouth. Not a particularly bad toss, but it must’ve been a little too forceful. She’d try a gentler approach next.

Reaching for a third stone, Zinnia once more planted her feet beneath her shoulders. She breathed in, held it, and exhaled- she repeated this twice more and then released the rock on her third exhale as she did when practicing archery. As her arrows did, the stone sailed across the water with eight skips before dropping beneath the mirror-like surface now dancing with ripples. Zinnia let out a woop and jumped in the air.
She rushed over to her sisters and with a grin declared, “That’s 15 skips total for me!”

Ylva had thought to be patient, but Zinnia's sudden appearance was enough to distract her. She bolted to her feet eagerly, a bright grin on her face as she danced and shifted her weight from foot to foot. "Fifteen??" she echoed, peeping over her shoulder at the stone skipping area. "Let me try!"
She dashed over, picked up her first stone, and spun it out onto the water. It wasn't the most impressive, skipping twice and then plunging out of sight.
"Oh..." she said, wide-eyed. This wasn't as easy as she'd thought. No matter!

Inside, Xaawo was buzzing with satisfaction. Sisters were coming! Her party would be the ultimate success! She schooled her expression into one that might have been worn by a serious artist doing serious artist things as Wangui joined her on the ground, nodding sagely at the other girl's decoration declaration.
"That'll look good, I think."
She got to work in silence, using several soft, cloth-tipped brushes to apply just enough paint to each dot so that it wouldn't take forever to dry. There was only a vague amount of rhyme and reason to her placement choices, but most of them were symmetrical, so there was that, at the very least. Xaawo paused when Ylva approached, smiling at her words. Yes, it was a great idea.
It wasn't very much longer before Xaawo decided her first masterpiece was complete. She leaned back, assessing her work before putting down her brush.
"Done!" She made a note of Zinnia's score, then folded her hands, watching what she could see of Ylva as she skipped stones. Xaawo thought very hard in the other girl's direction. Come back.

Ylva scooped up another rock without hesitation, chucking it out across the water. Perhaps she simply didn't quite understand the power or technique behind skipping stones, and she watched crestfallen as this rock, too, skipped twice and sank with a little blurble.
"Wow..." she said out loud. "Zinnia must've been really good at this." The youngling heaved a sigh, and then seemed to decide it was necessary to at least try one more time.

This final attempt was everything the last two were not! Ylva took her time, picking through the rocks by her feet until she found a nice, thin, smooth one. Light, but with a little bit of heft. This should serve her well. She straightened back up and danced up to the water's edge, drawing her arm back and sending the rock out across the water with a flick of her wrist. This time, the rock sailed, and with each additional bounce, Ylva's eyes grew wider. She let out a little whoop and clapped her hands together before sprinting back to Xaawo's set-up. "Oh, I'm sorry, I got so distracted!" she said breathlessly, plopping herself down in front of the other youngling with a grin. "I'll pay attention now." She clasped her hands together carefully in front of here, sitting as still as she could. "I wasn't very good at the rock skipping. Just 12. But my last one felt so much better than the first two."

Zinnia’s eyes grew wide as she watched Xaawo paint. She twirled in a circle and watched Ylva skip her stones, cheering when she too made an 8-skip toss. “Good job Ylva! We just have to find our rhythms, huh? Then we can do anything!” She chuckled and tapped out a quick tune to drive her point home.
Xaawo’s words caught her attention and she looked back at the young artist’s work, “Wangui, I love all your spots- so fun!” She bounced up and down with excitement and asked, “Xaawo, can you do me next after Ylva? I think a picture could be fun too!” She smiled wide, “I’m going to go look at the alinar while you work. Do you want to come too Wangui?”
She swung her arms as she trotted over to the little maze, “Awwwww, they’re so cute!” She pointed to the black alinar with white feet, “Eeee, he looks like he has little boots on!” Every fiber of her being was yearning to reach out and pet the fuzzy, little creatures. Okay, so she couldn’t resist after all. She bent over and quickly patted the dark brown alinar and retreated before it could retaliate, “But I’ll bet on this one, I like that it matches us!”
Smerdle Picking the brown alinar.
