Question:

I want to use the normal battle system and the other player wants to use Lite. Can we use both?


Answer:
No. One system or the other but not both. Lite is easily made out of the normal system. Ask a mod to do the transfer or pass it by a mod once it is done for confirmation.

Another option is use use the alternate system instead of normal or lite. They use the description in either one but use a different dice system so everyone is still playing fair.

Q:

What is the difference between tabletop and text based rp?

A:

A tricky question as some tabletop games can also be done as text based rps.

Traditional tabletop revolves around rolling dice, the actions of players and a game master that leads the group and decides how the actions of the players progresses the story until it comes to a conclusion. In general the story revolves around a group and rarely an individual. Characters can die permanently. (Generalizing as there are many different types)

Text based rp ( also known as play by post) is more focus on story telling than battle. There is no group of people that rp at a specific place or time but instead a group of people who start rps with one another and rp as they have the free time, or even play solo. The story can be multi branched and sometimes never end, as people have been playing 10+ years with the same characters and sometimes still in the same world.

Characters can NOT die unless the player wishes them too and while there are some games that allow them to die without permission Metamorphosis Sanctuary is not one of them.

Actions and descriptions are not just flavor text but give depth to the story. Instead of just saying the guy was hit by fireball, another way to say it could be that the meta failed to dodge a burning ball of white glowing plasma and got hit in the chest, etc. Someone else might even take that to indicate that the grass caught fire from the sparks and that is fine unless the player of the fire thrower said there was no sparks released. See what I mean?

There is no game master, per say, yet the creator of the world(in the case of metamorphosis sanctuary) has the last say in the game since it is their world though suggestions are welcomed.
Other text based rps are based on world from books, games or TV in which case the creator of the rp game usually has the last word for good or bad.

The creator of the world may create world spanning events where a group of people can join or they can create an event in the world that people can respond to in their own rps. Those response can affect the world itself as they try to investigate/change things.

Most rps are usually diceless, but to keep things fair we decided to add a battle system that used dice in a minimal way.
Diceless rp is still possible, just make sure the player you are playing with agree, otherwise it might be good to avoid a fight altogether.

Q:
I want to do a surprise plot but did not expect the reaction that happened.

A:
Eh hehe... some people may rp close to RL(in real life) as long as it doesn't break the rules of the rp or is triggering for the other person. At the end, if you do not want anything to happen it is your decision to pull your character out or talk with the other player on what can be done.

At the same time every one has their own view of what might happen IRL in a similiar situation, such as attacking a military base with a spork and no powers. Some characters also have questionable morals, aka mad scientists or military leaders who don't mind imprisoning, research or worse on metas because they do not have rights. Yet at the same time it is to have fun so thing can change just talk it out and see what can be done... or chance it haha.

To get a better idea talk it out with the other player. It might develop into a more favorably plot for both parties than leaving it to chance. If there is any problems ask the mods.

Q:

The power I want to bring in has a different limitation that what is listed, can I use that instead?

A:
Yes, list it or ask a mod and we will tell you if it is fine or not.

Q:
I see non-mod people playing npc. What is up with that?

A:
Other players are welcomed to play npcs, especially temporary or short lived npcs. Npcs are not immune to damage and they can be killed unless a player indicates they might wish to make them into a character, then they have to figure something out with the other players or the mods.

Npcs can't not be used to overwhelm an opponent in a fight, they are usually used for non combat purposes. The only time that isn't true is when there is a fight inside of the headquarters or main base of a group...also when police come...though police will take a few rounds to arrive and are mentioned off an on until they do.

Players can control the reaction of a crowd and cause a stampede ..but not use specific people to help with a battle unless they can make it work. Basically try to keep it close to irl ... full swat team suddenly appearing as if they knew there was going to be trouble when there was no indication .. not really.

Q:

Hey my character didn't do that ...why is everyone blaming them?

A:

Hahahaha... ha sometimes the action of your character overlapped with the action of another character. Some of these might even be plots planned with the owner or random happenstance that happened in the rp at the same time as yours and the "world" assume they were one and the same.

Your character can go and try to dig around and find out who did it or not, up to you.

Q:

Do I have to rp things out? can't I just say it happened?

A: if you want people to rp with your character it would be good. It is a way to get an idea of the character's personality and how they react and sometimes someone's character will muse and want to interact with them.

Saying something important happened is a cheap way to get something done. It misses the personal growth and development of a character to just say "This happened" especially if it would have been something important such as a realization of their likes, dislikes, fear etc.

Small things are fine.. and all of this is all mostly a player's choice. Yet it gives the reader a sense of how they went from point A to point B instead of hey now things are this. It also gets the reader more invested in the character.
