What are their powers/abilities?
Poison Plants - Valerie can grow unique flowers and vines, which release a pink powder or smoke, that contains the ability of fragrance manipulation. The potent aromas of this special vapor can induce minor hallucinations, feelings of happiness or desire, sensations of pain/sadess, and fatigue. In more severe situations, the vapor can increase in toxicity and cause a burning effect similar to acid. Of course, it all depends on the amount of pink vapor present and how much the victim inhales or is exposed to. The vapors embedded in her body allow her some regenerative properties, which she can use only once a day to heal any injuries.
Valerie can also produce thorns as projectiles, which have concentrated amounts of these vapors embedded in them. The side effects of the poison may differ depending on the individual, and the situation that they are used for.
Do they have any notable weaknesses / Limitations?
If one wears a gas mask, a full-body protective suit, or can hold their breath for a very long time, then the vapor's effects can be weakened for a while. The vapor isn’t invisible once there’s enough, so an opponent may also be able to find ways around it. At that point, Valerie would have to rely only on her vines. Only four separate vine stems can be grown at a time, and Valerie must be within 100 ft of them. For the vines to further increase, they must grow off of one another, which can take time and energy. Like all plants, they are weak to fire… Although depending on how much powder is present in the air, once ignited, they may combust explosively.
In addition, Valerie does not possess any superhuman strength or speed.
What is their personality like?
Valerie’s personality is highly unpredictable. She can range from making impulsive and sometimes reckless decisions, to being extremely calculated and analytical, depending on what the situation is. Overall, Valerie is very confident when it comes to social interaction. She’ll oftentimes say whatever is on her mind, whether it be good or bad. Valerie also has a knack for trouble, manipulating, and isn’t afraid to bend the rules if it’s to her benefit. Although, there is a sweet side to her, and she’s very loyal to those she cares about. Valerie is also afraid of getting close to people, because of her potential to slowly poison them over the course of years depending on their resistance.
What is their backstory?
A mysterious pink rose emerged in Valerie's backyard when she was five years old as she was playing outside. It wasn't long until more of those pink roses began emerging in potted plants within her parent's house. Her parents didn't think anything of the flowers at the time, and were delighted by the addictively sweet aroma that they brought with them. After a week passed, the carbon monoxide alarms installed in the home began going haywire, and any other plants that weren't the pink flowers in the house, withered away and died. Since no gas leak in the home was detected after careful inspection by the authorities, Valerie's family moved to a different home.
The situation began again, with the mysterious roses, and that was when Valerie's parents linked the problem to the flowers. But no matter how much weed killer they used, or how many plants they tore out, the flowers would always regrow. When she turned ten years old, Valerie touched the ground while playing and then ran away inside the house, only for a rose to emerge immediately after. Her parents witnessed the entire thing, and that was when to their horror, they discovered the problem was with Valerie.
A few days later, her parents began to grow increasingly ill from the toxins that the flowers let off. With no other choice, they gave Valerie up for adoption. She ended up in the system and was isolated from others out of fear. A kind woman, Susan, eventually adopted Valerie and she lived a happy life, although the problem with the toxic roses began again. But her new mother dearly loved Valerie, despite her condition, knowing full well what it did, and that it could eventually kill her. Valerie lived with Susan until she turned sixteen. Despite having learned how to control the roses and their potency, living in close proximity to Valerie still had long term effects, and Susan had grown extremely ill over the course of years until she eventually died. Valerie, overcome with grief and guilt, chose to live a life on the streets.
She mastered her powers even more, until she was able to fully control the toxicity levels to the best of her abilities. Despite this, Valerie still knows that she has the capacity to slowly poison someone if they live in close proximity to her. But, life on the street meant she had to make a living. Valerie was forced to turn to selling drugs, and would use her powers to enhance their hallucinogenic and joy-inducing effects. Thanks to this, she has been able to make quite a successful and illegal living for herself, over the years, as well as throw massive parties. Another thing that Valerie learned is that although her toxic vapors can give pain and suffering, they can also just as easily take those sensations away, and replace them with euphoria. Valerie hasn't aligned with anyone just yet and is a bit of a wanderer in the meantime.
Is there anything else we need to know?
A side effect of her powers is that she naturally carries a very sweet, strong fragrance, that smells like whatever is most enticing to someone (usually something between roses and vanilla). This scent can change depending on the individual and contains pheromones. Even when Valerie sets herself to her lowest toxicity levels, for anyone in close proximity to her over a period of six to fifteen years, they may eventually become poisoned. However, this can depend strongly on the individual and what they are resistant to.
