Mini Game: Destiny City Scavenger HuntDestiny City is a large metropolis full of things both old and new alike. In this time of city-wide celebration, the city is hosting a scavenger hunt to encourage people to get to know their city--or share the things they love about it. Everyone is invited to participate in completing one of two public lists and submit it for the chance to win a piece of Destiny City’s history: one of three old necklaces from the founders of the city. They are identical pieces and have been on display at City Hall for the past month after an estate sale uncovered a trove of antiques and photographs. A handwritten note, carefully written in elegant cursive, was stored in the box with these three necklaces. It is printed at the top of the scavenger hunt, along with a photograph of the necklaces: Quote: I leave for my three daughters, should they ever return, a necklace to take with them upon their travels. If I have seen the last of them, I wish the necklaces to whomever will travel across the land in search of beauty and adventure. The spirit of the traveler lives within each and is said to grant safe passage. I did not see all of the world that I wanted to, but I have carried these necklaces for half my life. A little piece of me will live on in them, so give them to someone who loves this world as I do.
-M.L. Chauvineau Participants are encouraged to be creative and explore their city--but to practice safety and be cautious!

Rules and FormsRulesEach player can submit one completed scavenger hunt to earn a ticket for this mini game! All entries must be posted here in this thread by ~7PM EST June 29th. The thread will then be locked for new entries and RNG will be used to select three winners. ICly, one of your characters will win one of the three of the necklaces on display. OOCly, you will also win one IC RP Item of your choice (any one time use item or a permanent accessory)! At the time winners are rolled, you will need to PM the mule to let them know which OOC prize you are earning (and for which character it will be going to), as well as which character the IC prize is going to. These do not need to be the same characters, but the prizes can only go to your characters; you cannot give them to someone else! ICly, the character who receives the necklace must have also ICly have submitted a scavenger hunt (though it does not have to be the one you submit to earn a ticket!)! You can complete the surveys as if you are doing so ICly, or you can complete them for yourself! If you complete the prompt below and write 500 words for your character completing either scavenger hunt, you may also claim one raffle ticket HERE! While you can only claim one ticket for this mini game and only one ticket for the raffle, you can complete the prompt multiple times with different characters to complete the Individual Participation Rewards! To complete the scavenger hunt ICly, your character must take photographs and submit them; OOCly you can either take your own photographs, use pictures from online, or draw pictures using any medium you are comfortable with. If the photograph is not your own, please give proper credit! You will not be judged on artistic talent or photography skills; all winners will be chosen through RNG. If you have any questions, please PM In the Name of the Mule and we will get back to you as soon as possible! The Scavenger Hunt Prompt and FormsQuote: Prompt: Two similarly designed scavenger hunts are being hosted by Destiny City; you can only pick one scavenger hunt to submit but you are encouraged to explore your city and share what you love. Three lucky winners will be selected from the entrants to receive an artifact from one of Destiny City’s early settlers. Information about the prize and form can be found HERE. What parts of the city do you want to share? Do you find something interesting while you are exploring? Are you doing this because you’re interested in the city, because someone dragged you into it, or because the allure of the prize is too tempting? This prompt is optional! You can complete it to earn a raffle ticket or to complete the Individual Participation Rewards; to participate in the Scavenger hunt mini-game, you only need to complete one of the following forms! While you can complete both, you can only earn one ticket for this mini-game! Scavenger Hunt #1: 1. A Piece of Art: 2. An Animal: 3. A Smile: 4. A Plant: 5. A Delicacy: 6: A Treasure: 7. Now this had seemed like fun.
She had enjoyed the other games that other stalls had offered as she'd wandered by but this one in particular had caught her eye. Leaning over to inspect the introduction from this M.L. Chauvineau, she had determined that the challenges she had laid out before herself and others were very much open to interpretation. While there were some that were simple enough, there were others that could be defined by the individual. On this occasion this adventure was something that Liliane saw as an opportunity.
...She could show her world to someone, or at least show them what it was like through her eyes.
It was an exciting prospect and something she would thoroughly enjoy doing, but unfortunately she didn't have her camera. She glanced down at the phone in her bag and conceded that on this occasion it would have to do as an alternative. The camera on it was good enough, she hadn't exactly scrimped on it and it would take reasonably good pictures (they just wouldn't account for lighting adjustments).
She took one of the lists that were open for selection, only glancing at the top part of it as she placed it in her bag and set off towards a park bench to examine what she had received. Taking a seat, she removed the paper from her bag again and set it on her lap to examine its contents. All in all, the requirements weren't as difficult on this one as she'd expected. She must have picked one of the direct ones rather than the more interpretive ones, but this didn't mean that it was any less important.
Some were simply enough but others...
She pursed her lips thoughtfully; actually, the more that she thought about it the more she realised that in the grand scheme of things she could find almost all of these within the Festival itself. Some of the most important expressions were there - a gathering, a smile, a monument... Heck, even a piece of art might well lie among the throngs of people! She'd find them with ease and then move on to the more difficult challenges. She'd have to go further afield for the others but the walk would do her good and she liked to find the more quirky and interesting sights anyway.
Heck, as she wandered about she might very well find some inspiration for her own work. That was part of the journey though wasn't it? To see the world, to experience something new, and then to share it with those who were intrigued to see it.
She had quite a lot of work to do to complete the tasks though and it was that in mind that she pulled herself to her feet again and, paper in hand, moved towards the first location she intended to visit. She knew exactly where she wanted to go first, it was a giant monument on the other end of the city, but it was striking and had always made a considerable impression on her. After that, she'd work on the others and make her way back here, that seemed to be the most efficient to do this anyway.

A scavenger hunt wasn’t his usual affair. But then. His usual affair in summer consisted of him causing trouble for his shareholders, Marlo, and often enough any partners he had. Elzo adored summer, mainly for the fact he could wear lighter clothes and go swimming frequently. And while he knew he still needed to do a fair deal of work back at the office, he had been working round the clock as of later with the vacation season in full swing, the man wasn’t so stupid as his brother to work himself half to death. Marlo was busy with Hope and twins, while Elzo had his own beanbugs to contend with- and their nanny was also due for a day off. She was a blessing really, but between working himself ragged and his want of a view outside of his office walls, a scavenger hunt seemed just the thing to break up the monotony. “Okay kiddos.” He picked up Andino first, who made spit bubbles at him before squirming uncontrollably until he was sat down in his seat of the stroller. The left side- as Elzo had come to find out, Andino rather disliked not being able to grab at things with his dominant hand. Shealin came next giggling happily as Elzo whispered little compliments to her in italian. She was much easier than her brother when they went out- it was taking her home and putting her to bed that was the fight. “Daddy think this will be a nice adventure- so no biting each other or trying to steal each other’s toys.” He barely said this before Shealin threw her stuff dinosaur off the sidewalk and into the street. “Shea-” he sighed, retrieving it and handing it back to her. He gave her his most stern frown- it would be enough to dissuade her for a bit. “Okay.” He started making car engine sounds for them, and hearing their giggling laughter made his heart swell. Scanvenger hunt or not, he loved his children- and a day out would do them good. “Nyroooo-” He started his jog, the kids squealing in delight as he ran down the path of the park, minding his speed and the fact Andino was rocking himself back and forth as if he’d break free at any given moment in time. Eventually, Elzo did slow, settling them by a fountain, pulling his phone free to check the scavenger hunt list. Most things would be simple enough, nothing too bad- but then, he often didn’t bother with taking photos of things that really, would have fit here a lot better than just going out and doing things and finding things all in one day. “Okay.” He said, picking up the plush dino for the fourth time that day, much to the twin’s delight. “Now- what do you think we should do first?” “Brgglllth!” “Mrryyypffff.” Yes, very good decisions he thought. Wise and sound reasoning as well. “You’re right, we shouldn’t rush it.” He took a photo of them both, making them fuss- they didn’t like the whrr and click of a camera, even if it was just the one on the phone making the sound. “Aw shoot.” They started pouting. Oh boy- time to start another jog. “This is going to take longer than I thought...” Scavenger Hunt #2: 1. Something Beautiful My fav waterfall/park 2. Something Exciting fite me kyu 3. ================
"It is ridiculous." Mikali Khellasati had a thick Indian accent. Her words were quick and pinched together as if they couldn't possibly come out of her mouth as individual words, so much as one long string of letters. "Summertime is when boys come home to their mothers. Ridiculous nonsense that you won't come home on the weekend. What did I buy you that death cycle for? To look at? To avoid your mother? What about your brother, Nataniel? He misses you-"
She could go on without input from him for great lengths of time, so Nataniel was content to allow her to do just that. He held his phone to his ear by bracing it against his shoulder, but otherwise kept his attention on his computer game. His mother didn't need to know what he was doing on the other end, so long as anytime she paused for more than a second or two, he responded with a complacent, "Mhm."
Nataniel wasn't overly fond of talking on the phone to begin with.
He supposed it was marginally better than a face to face conversation, but could grow tiresome quickly if it required a lot of his attention. His mother, however, was someone he couldn't justify ignoring all calls from. She was the type to threaten him with such things as no longer paying for his phone bill or his motorcycle insurance or college. But really those threats he could deal with. It was the idea that she might bring herself physically to his apartment that did him the greatest concern. Not that he had anything he was particularly ashamed of. The place was clean, smelled fine, and he was an organized man.
But God, his mother was hard to dodge in person. He could blow her off from over the phone easily. Not so much face-to-face. It was risky business to avoid her too adamantly for too long.
Click, click, click- Most of Nataniel’s attention was on targeting foes in his game. The sound of his mouse was of more interest than his mother’s attempt at conversation. It was an actual auditory signal that he was completing an action, while Mikali’s voice was a more consistent overlay of background noise. “Mhm,” he answered noncommittally as she paused.
“He left a few minutes ago, to pick you up.”
“Mm-“ Wait, what? It would be difficult to say that he felt as though he actually comprehended much of what his mother said when she called. She didn’t usually expect him to do anything besides make good grades and not die. Mostly she complained that he was ignoring her or that she wished he’d been a ‘good daughter’ instead of a disrespectful boy, or warned him against making bad choices. Today, however- “Pick me up for what?”
The sound she made was a tsk of a curse. “Your brother wanted to do something in the city. His friends decided against it. He is whiny, Nataniel, and he misses-“
“I’m busy.” The words cut from his lips snappishly. It didn’t matter What Ellian wanted to do or who he wanted to do it with. Nataniel had very little patience for his teenaged little brother, an obnoxious creature. And he didn’t want to do anything in the city. He hated the city. He hated going out. He hated Ellian. All he wanted was to spend a day doing nothing in the secluded darkness of his home. “I have homework. You know there isn’t much leeway in these summer classes.”
“If you want to keep taking classes, go with your brother. You have no business being cold to him. That is your family. Perhaps if he says he had a good time once you’re finished, I’ll consider your request for an additional stipend toward living expenses.”
Nataniel pinched the bridge of his nose. “It wasn’t a request.”
“A demand?”
“No.” He hissed the word, irritated. This wasn’t a conversation he wanted, and frankly couldn’t even be bothered to remember what his mother was talking about concerning a ‘request.’ A complaint, likely, about being out of money because of how close he consistently came to his financial limit. Not because he was forced to, but because there was nothing stopping him. “I don’t want to be bothered to take Ellian out just because his friends tire of his selfish-“
“Take him or don’t. See what happens.” With that clipped note, she hung up, leaving little room for Nataniel to argue with the most passive aggressive woman in his life.
It was a pain to please his mother, really and truly, and it wasn’t anything Nataniel specifically wanted to do, but when Ellian arrived at his door sporting dark skinny jeans and a bright green baggy Nano Cola D.va tank top, the feeing intensified a million fold. He wasn’t going to be cruel, but the effort to be nice was well beyond him. If all he had to do was walk behind while his little brother took pictures for some contest... Fine, whatever. Irritating but not unmanageable. And he wasn’t doing it to please Ellian by any stretch of the word. Just to get his mom off his back.
He sat in the passenger seat of his stupid brother’s stupid red convertible and scrubbed a hand down his face. Best to get it over with, and if he convinced Ellian to not be choosy with his stupid pictures, it wouldn’t be long.

Scavenger Hunt #1: 1. A Piece of Art: [ x] 2. An Animal: [ x] 3. A Smile: [ x] 4. A Plant: [ x] 5. A Delicacy: [ x] 6: A Treasure: [ x] 7. A Monument: [ x] 8. A Gathering: [ x] 9. A Memory: [ x] 10. A Game: [ x] (all images come from my sad MS Paint attempts :3 ) There was no way that Liryn was going to miss out on taking part in the scavenger hunt - especially not given the fact that it gave him an excuse to explore the city, which was one of his favourite things to do anyway.
There was just one, small problem, a somewhat teensy problem in fact - in that whilst the competition was apparently open to all. all did not include participants of the feline variety–
Particularly not those of the speaking feline variety.
There was also the fact that Liryn knew that if he wandered around the city in the other form that there was a chance that he would draw too much unwelcome attention - because whilst he enjoyed a wander around, he didn't really want either youma or other Negaverse officers to gatecrash said wanderings.
Fortunately, Arian had been pretty easygoing about being roped into doing the actual entering and acting as legwork, which meant that the problem hadn't turned out to be a insurmountable one–
And it was how the pair of them had ended up being out and about, with Arian toting both portable camera and notepad both.
They - well he - had opted for the first of the two lists on offer, seeing it as creating more opportunity for them to cover as much of the city as possible, with the first stop being the city zoo.
A snap of a cute-looking bear cub had covered list item number 2 and a shop en route to said zoo had had a painting in the window and a shop owner that had been good-natured about Arian snapping it, had covered list item number 1, which had in turn allowed them to cross off two items from the list.
A smiley badge at the zoo had covered list item number 3, particularly as he had eventually managed to talk Arian into using his phone to take a selfie of himself smiling - and yes it was a smile and not a grimace - whilst wearing said badge.
A trip to a garden centre had allowed them to cross off list items number 4 and number 5 both, with Arian agreeing to drop off the plant (item number 4) that they had ended buying at his cousin's place later on in the day and the two of them sharing a delicious slice of cake (item number 5).
A snap by the obelisk had covered item number 7. followed by a trip to the museum where some old coins had seemed interesting and - at least in Liryn's opinion - totally covered item number 6–
And whilst a part of Liryn couldn't help but feel a little sad that he hadn't been able to get away with slipping into the museum, Arian had also picked up a post card of the coins for him and had taken a picture of him with them - although that wasn't the one that they were going to submit.
They had passed a group of people, on the way back from the museum and the group had been okay about Arian taking a picture of them which meant that they had had item number 8 covered and a trip to Arian's cousin's apartment had covered item number 10 in the form of a game of draughts.
Eventually the two of them had ended back at their own apartment, and it was there that Arian fished out the picture that would end up covering the final item on their list - with the snowy picture of a past trip to the woods covering item number 9 nicely–
And with the last item checked off, Arian had carefully filled out the form for submission and had let Liryn ink a paw print next to his signature.
All in all it had made for a very enjoyable day, especially as his dark-haired friend had also produced some salmon sandwiches for him.
All in all a great end to a great day.-- 656 words --
