As the wings rose to meet their enemy, the flaming began in such a concentration that it seemed the sky was a veil of fire. Though the Star Flames were smack in the middle of the multitude of dragons, that first approach always left a great deal of Thread falling between those that made up the uppermost layer of fighters. Beylith was ready for it, blasting a large clump that was drifting down to one side of them.

His flame cut off abruptly as the cluster of writhing silver strands changed direction, coasting on the wind straight toward him and his rider. A quick glance upward showed Ambrin that the space there was clear. There! The unspoken word wasn’t even needed; Bey saw and felt the command to jump, and after a moment of deadly cold, they reappeared safely above the wind-blown clump and burned it to ash with another burst of flame.

The wind was terribly rough to start this Fall, buffeting Beylith’s wings and making it twice as difficult to aim accurately. Dragon and rider were extra alert for gusts and kept themselves out of harm’s way. When there was a few moments of clear skies above, they were able to relax… but only for a few moments. There were still hours left to go.

What luck they were having! Whoever was flying above them was doing excellent work, extending their short break a little longer. They didn't waste it, using the freedom to keep an eye out for even the smallest stray threads within reach.

Once again, that nasty wind caused the pair to have to hop between to avoid providing themselves as a delicious buffet for Thread. Again, they found clear sky just above, and made the jump with ease. Our Jackie's lucky mark is working well today! Ambrin laughed. Beylith rumbled with his own mirth as he almost leisurely dropped back into his former position.

It was going swimmingly thus far, even when a cluster of Thread was blown a bit too far to reach. There was time to go after it, and Beylith dove, sending a column of flame that incinerated every last bit.

They'd been fighting regularly for some time now, but there was still that unsteadiness that always colored the early moments of each Fall... and sometimes even later, depending on how the battle played out. The unpredictable winds that day were already causing both Silviu and Aramath such tension that they were unable to relax when they found themselves in a thread-free zone for a short while.

Another dragon swerved quite suddenly into their path to avoid windblown thread. They weren't that close, but there was still a chance of a minor collision. Aramath backwinged and managed to drop down below them, preventing any potential accident. Yay!

That same dragon who'd swerved moments before was now in the process of burning a wide sheet of strands, unaware of a few other clumps that seemed to be heading their way. In mental sync with his rider, Aramath flew up and around their busy wingmate to quickly put down those approaching clumps in short order. The success gave him a burst of confidence and pride, especially when their fellow's rider shouted a thanks up to them.

18. Thread falls, and a sneaky strand winds up chewing on your wingsail. You pop Between to ease the pain, and come out flaming. It hurts, but it's small tubers compared to what it could have been! +1 Pain Resilience]
Cyndreth and K'srin flew into the air, along with their wing, with determination. As the wave of thread began to fall, a strand fell fitfully, erratically, carried by a cust of wind; it was small, but it hit Cyndreth's wingsail regardless. A quick pop between, before any damage could occur, ended the pain; it was a bit sore, but hardly awful. Cyndreth was unfazed, for the most part, shrugging off the pain. It hadn't caused injury, and he was skilled enough to think on his feet like that.

The high note Aramath was on was shattered a short while later as yet another wingmate surprised them, and in the worst possible way. The other dragon appeared from between, ready to flame a clump of thread, but they must not have been quite where they'd intended to reappear, for their flame came right toward the blue pair.
Aramath, for all his bulk and strength, screeched like a panicked weyrling and wrenched his body aside. The heat of the "friendly" flame didn't scorch an inch of his hide, but the blue was thoroughly rattled, slowing enough that he had to drop beneath the dragon behind them to avoid causing a backup. Silviu wasn't aggressive by any means, but he was so startled and angry that he shouted a few choice words at the rider of the flaming dragon, even as he mentally comforted his Aramath.

More thread fell, and as Cyndreth flamed at it, the unpredictable wind pushed it back at them. With a careful, quick thought, they disappeared between, appearing again just above the tangle. It continued to fall down, to be caught by one of the lower wings (ideally), but Cyndreth and K'srin were fine.
Nyssa gripped the saddle in front her tightly, knuckles white as Loteth launched at the Thread. Roaring and flaming, the brown was revelling in what he was supposed to do.

The wind is fierce and fighting you. Greens, and blues will struggle against it, trying valiantly to keep in formation! [+1 Stamina] Browns and Bronzes can feel the strain, but it's nothing they can't seem to handle. [+3 Stamina]
The wind picked up, pushing against Cyndreth's wingsails. As if it could push HIM out of formation. The massive bronze straightened, adjusting to combat the burst of wind, but kept on course, moving not a hair out of place. Muscle strained slightly against the force, but Cyndreth barely acknowledged the harsh wind.
