- We are proud to present the new Villain System 2.0! I would like to preface this new system with the fact that it isn't undoing the previous system, but rather adding more to it! Please feel free to ask questions and make suggestions on discord as I am sure there will be a few kinks for us to workout as we use this system. Please keep in mind that there will be an application at the end with which you need to apply to get your official villain boosts. Its simple, and easy, but you should still read this whole topic to make sure you understand everything fully.
Vιllαιɳ туρєѕ
I would like to start by explaining the two kinds of villains. You have to choose between being a student-villain, or a committed villain. A student-villain attends a combat school like beacon and must do their villainy under the protection of the darkness or with a disguise. They are technically still a student. At least for as long as they are not caught. They often do freelance work for committed villains and their organizations. Most student-villains graduate to become committed villains, but are not required to. You can also be a member of the faculty or staff and be a villain. These villains must adhere to all of the rules that the student-villains follow. Additionally, you can create an NPC villain under rare circumstances. These villains are usually short lived and have a very specific purpose. Usually they are the boss or mini-boss in an event or a series of events. Even though we call them "NPCs" they are not true NPCs as you are still able to play them for a short time. Always discuss NPC villains with a crew member before creating them and have a purpose in mind. Please refer to the ŃРČ Sуѕтєм topic for more information on this.
The first big change we are making is adding an official Vιllαιɳ Rσʂƚҽɾ. Whether you are a student-villain, or a committed villain you must sign up on the roster to gain any villain boosts that we are about to cover. If you are not signed up, you won't get any boosts. You must be signed up before you engage in combat. If you engage in combat, and THEN sign up, you will not receive the villain boosts until after that combat as been resolved. Additionally, it is important to note that if you are a faculty or staff member and an undercover villain that you will only have one boost at any given moment. Meaning a teacher who has a +100 post boost will not have their teacher boost when undergoing villainous acts. They will receive their chosen villain boost. They will get their teacher boost only for when they are acting as a teacher for the good of Vale. NPCs do not receive any boosts even if they are a villain.
Vιllαιɳ Bσσsts
There are two types of villain boosts that you get to choose from. Each has its own pros and cons depending on the way you plan to have your villain work. Simply put, Tier Boost is for villains who plan to have an organization. They have flat boosts correlating to the ranks in their organization. These ranks, on average, will be less than the boosts of a villain with the Grimm Ally boost, but unlike the Grimm Ally boost these boosts will be permanent flat boosts that increase as you gain rank in your organization. The Grimm Ally boost on the other hand will vary based on the grimm present. This means they will often be much higher than the flat boost provided by the Tier system with a few major drawbacks. This boost can only help when grimm are around and so if you are attacked by the good guys at your home base you will be extremely vulnerable. Essentially the tier boost is the flat average boost which helps with offense and defense, and the Grimm Ally boost is the high offensive boost, but little to no defense. The main reason we created this dichotomous system was to encourage different sorts of villains and make sure that you had an appropriate boost depending on your play style. This system allows for a single clever loner to foil missions just as much as a criminal organization. You can start as a Grimm Ally loner, and join a Tier boost organization if you like, but you will only be allowed to employ one boost at any given time. If you join or leave an organization you will also be subject to a 1 month waiting period before your new boost activates unless you have crew permission to skip that waiting period. You will retain your former boost for that month. Now, I will go into each boost and the general villain system as a whole over the next few paragraphs.
Grimm Ally Boost
Without further ado, let's get down to it! The first bσσst is what we refer to as "Grimm Ally," but I do want to make it clear that the grimm are not actually your allies. They will still tear you to pieces after the good guys have left or been defeated (though the villains are not required to defeat them to succeed), so you got to watch out. We call it this because your battle hardened villain likely has less fear than the good guys and so they get targeted last. Also, you don't necessarily need to kill the grimm to win once the good guys are gone. What this boost does is it grants the first villain who enters a topic the ability to add their post count on top of the current encounter level. Meaning if there are two beowolves who each have 25 post count, totaling 50 posts and you have a level of 1 (100 posts), then you raise the total encounter level to 150. Even if all grimm die, the encounter level stays the same as long as the villain is in the fight.
Let's do another example, a large Nevermore with a post count of 300 is fighting a team of beacon students whose total post count is 340 as a team. Then you, the villain, enter the fight. The encounter level is now level 3+1. The Nevermore's level plus yours. It is now a level 4 encounter. And of course, if the team of beacon students have a cumulative post count lower than level 4 (400 posts) which they do, you have just turned the tides and secured victory for the villain side (assuming no reinforcements arrive, or items are played to change the tides of war).
This boost last only for the single fight and so sometimes you will get large boosts, and sometimes you will get small boosts. If you are attacked by the good guys with no grimm around you will get no boost. This boost is thus best for offense and weak for defense. Also, since only one villain can claim the grimm ally boost per fight it is best for those who work alone. If you have an organization of villains who all utilize this boost than only one of you gets the boost count. Meaning if that first villain decides to leave the fight, the tides of the battle change again. This will either be the first villain to enter the topic, or if they choose to waive the boost it will pass to the next villain who entered and so on. This is better for loners who do not work with other villains as it allows them to go higher than the average boost one would receive in the tier boost system. I will restate this below, but you don't unlock higher levels of your semblance when you use this power.
When a villain enters the fight, you sum their post count, with that of the grimm. This is the total villain post count/level (encounter level). If it is greater than the good side, then the villains will win. Now, for the sake of role play, we will allow you to kill the grimm, but the total level will not go down. The villain will retain the total level of the encounter even if all grimm are killed. So if a villain is level 1 (100 post count), and joins a fight with two 25 post count grimm (level .25), then the total level of the villain side is now 150. That is the 100 posts of the villain, + 25 from grimm 1, and 25 from grimm 2. You still roleplay as if the grimm have a post count of 25 (i.e., you need at least 25 post count to kill them, or hit them with two or more people whose posts counts together are greater than 25), but even after the grimm are dead, the villain, in a sense, has a level of 1.5 (150 posts) even though this is really not the Villain's actual level, just the encounter level. If the 150 post count is greater than the good team, the villain will win. If the villain side is less than the good side's total post count, then the villain loses. Whether the grimm survive or die doesn't matter. We do this so that the good guys can still fight and kill grimm, but retain the results of who should win.
Lastly, you can enter a topic and choose not to sequester the grimm levels. You will not get the grimm levels until you post "I am activating my villain power: Grimm ally, to sequester the grimm levels." Or something along those lines. Nobody else can claim it until you have rejected it though.
Tier Boost
The second system is the tier system which is much simpler in some ways, but still an effective choice as it draws its power from numbers. The Tier Boost option allows you to create your own organization where the ranks actually give post boosts. Now, a Grimm Ally villain can still have their own organization, but their ranks have no actual boosts like a tier system will have. The tier boosts must follow this format. Only three ranks are allowed boosts. The lower boosted rank will have +50 posts flat. The second rank will have +100 posts flat, and the highest tier will have +150 post boost flat. You can technically have additional ranks lower, in between, and above these three ranks, but only three of them may have boosts attached to them and they must be at these designated levels. As the guild ages these flat boosts will likely rise. In general we want the middle rank to match the average rank of all members in the guild. Additionally, you must role play for at least one month in each boosted rank before you can be promoted to the next. Even in your own organization you must wait the allotted amount of time before achieving the top boost (3 months of active role play total). This rank is a flat boost which is nice as it doesn't fluctuate and can thus be used defensively as well as offensively. It will be higher than the boosts afforded by the Grimm Ally boost at some times, but the Grimm Ally boost will often be higher than this boost. Now, if you join an organization that utilizes the Tier boost system and you have a villain with the Grimm Ally boost you will have to give up your Grimm Ally boost in order to join this organization. You cannot have both at the same time. Remember, if you do switch there will be a 1 month waiting period before your new boost activates unless waived by crew for plot purposes.
Now that we have covered the two boost systems in detail there are a few general rules and guidelines that all villains should be aware of. We will cover those before we get to the next section.
1 ▬ For one, if a fight is being modded by a crew member then you must first get their permission to join the fight. Otherwise you can hop in on any mission that good guys are working on and try to foil it.
2 ▬ If a quest is a custom quest created by one of the good guys you must also get crew permission, or the permission of the member who created the quest to enter the fight. When in doubt ask a crew member. We will let you drop in on custom fights if we feel it would be a fair fight.
3 ▬ Additionally, If the total post count of the villain(s) plus the grimm is higher than the team of good guys then you have secured victory. Of course, the good guys (and bad guys) have the ability to call for reinforcements. All reinforcements must come before aggressors 3rd post as is dictated by the combat rules. Let me make this a little more clear. If a fight starts (often judged from your first attack post, or the post at which you sequestered the grimm levels -- which must be stated in your post), all reinforcements must post before the aggressors 3rd post as been made. This rule will be judged based on proper post order even though there is no required post order in this guild. Meaning if there is a team of good guys, and one villain. If the villain starts a fight, then the whole team responds the first time, then the villain's second post takes place. Then all reinforcements must make their entrance post before the villain's third post has taken place. After that nobody else can join in the fight. They can only spectate.
4 ▬ This guild is flexible. You can create new kingdoms in the ashes of the old! Foiling good guy quests of a certain kingdom will increase the grimm invasion bar for that kingdom. You can actually destroy a kingdom by repetitively causing grimm invasions (~3). Or at least weaken it to the point where you can take it over. You will likely need to have a large criminal organization before we would allow this, but message me when you have 7 or more villains in your organization and we'll see if we can work something out! If you cannot amass a large organization than we are very unlikely to let your single villain have a great effect. You got to get members behind your vision if you want to make something happen!
5 ▬ Villains do not get access to higher levels in their semblance when they get boosted by the Grimm Ally boost, but they do get access to higher levels with the tier boost.
6 ▬ You can only ever be benefiting from one boost at any given time. This doesn't only apply to villain boosts but also teacher boosts as well. So if you are an undercover villain and you have a teacher boost, you will only be able to get one of them during a fight, and that will be decided based on whether your actions are villainous, or supporting the faction you are teaching under.
Crímínαl Orgαnízαtíσns
Organizations can be created by any and all villain types. The only exception would be that undercover villains and villain-students will need at least 3 RPCs/NPCs who have agreed to join if they wish to start their own organization. Whereas committed villains can start their own organization even if it begins with just themselves. In order to create an official criminal organization you must have a villain who is officially registered on the Vιllαιɳ Rσʂƚҽɾ (in this topic). Once you have an approved villain you are allowed to form your criminal organization through the application in the Outskirts. The main thing to keep in mind is that you will have to choose if your organization is a Tier Boost organization, or a Grimm Ally boost organization. If you decide to create a Tier Boost organization than you, and all members of your organization, will lose Grimm Ally boost and receive boosts from your rank within your organization. The organization leader gets to promote and demote its members as they see fit.
Not all criminal organizations necessarily use the tier boost system. Some still employ the Grimm Ally boost system. Which means that you get no rewards by joining their organization. If you want boosts based on your rank you must choose an organization that uses Tier Boost. Please use this thread to apply, but remember you need to have an approved villain on the roster to do so.

0 ▬ Sєlєct Víllαín Dєsígnαtín: Firstly, you will have to decide which type of villain you will be. Will you be a student-villain? or a fully committed villain?
1 ▬ Chσσsє Yσur Bσσsts: In your Vιllαιɳ Rσʂƚҽɾ application you will also have to select which villain boost you desire to possess. We will have two systems and you can only have one. You have to choose whether you want the Grimm Ally boost or the Tier Boost.
2 ▬ Crímínαl Orgαnízαtíσns: You will need to apply separately for your Crímínαl Orgαnízαtíσn if you decide to create one. There will be a separate application for this located in the outskirts (WIP).
3 ▬ Vιllαιɳ Rσʂƚҽɾ: Lastly, you will need to complete the Vιllαιɳ Rσʂƚҽɾ application with all of the above information. You can do that by posting, in this topic, with the below application:
