Lepidolite almost didn't even look like he was working right now. He looked more like a man who was having the time of his life. He was eager to move forward, eager to see what mysteries awaited them. He lingered for only a few seconds as the groups began to split up and begin on their way before he turned towards his group.

"You all made a good choice, coming with me. Let's stick together and get the job done." He raised a hand, gesturing for them to follow, and began to lead the way. He walked in front, not because he was simply excited or because he felt the need to guide from the front, but because they were entering unknown territory. He was powerful and diligent, and despite the grin on his face he was as clever and aware as always.

The Rift was a dangerous place and some forgotten city was no exception.

Their venture took them through a narrow, crystallized passage. They had to pass single file to make it through. It wasn't necessarily a quiet trip; Lepidolite did not command silence, though beyond his initial instructions he did not address anyone else directly. He was too keen on knowing where they were going and paying attention to what they were getting into.

Outside of the narrow, crystalized cavern, was a simple wooden sign post, so old that the words had been worn away. One of the arrow-tipped signs pointed left, one forward, and one to the right. Either Lepidolite had been here before, done some research, or was very good at making snap decisions--without missing a step, he turned right.

They had the luxury of a worn, flagstone pathway, and though some pieces had been damaged or lost to time it was at least easy enough to stick to the road. In the distance, a high wall towered into the sky. The nearer they ventured, the easier it was to identify a few dark shapes beyond the wall. A wrought iron-gate stood in firm, locked and blocking the path, but it was easy enough to see through the bars that the town was in poor condition. Most of the buildings appeared to be in various stages of decay and the much of the town looked as though someone had taken a sledgehammer to it.

Just outside the sealed gates, a sign once hung. There was an outline on the great stone wall, and two broken chains dangled forlornly. On the ground, just a few feet from the road, the sign lay lifelessly.

The wood had crisp edges, though time had worn away at the details. The wood was chipped and stained, and the text had long since faded. Yet, despite the wear, the scratchy remains of gold print remained just barely visible.

Welcome to Portunus Square.

Prompt 2

Lepidolite lingered with the sign for a moment, observing a few things. He paid special attention to the font, the style, the structure of the sign. To think, that youma might have had some part in building this was just as fascinating as anything he could think of. He shook his head and gestured for the group to follow him as he approached the thick iron gate that blocked them from entering the marketplace.

A thick chain serves as one final extra protection to deter intruders, but in the grand scheme of things, it was too damaged to hold for long. It should have been easy enough to break, though it wouldn't be a quiet endeavor. While there had been no sign of life, it didn't mean that creatures weren't still lurking; was it the best idea to tear down the gate at the cost of your discretion. A second option has presented itself though--would it not be easier to simply scout the wall and look for any weak points instead? It wouldn't be such a terrible thing to get an idea of the layout and know where any extra exits might be hiding.

[Choice 1]:
There’s no reason to make the extra effort to scout along the wall for another entrance if strength alone is enough to gain entry. Your character decides to join the effort in breaking the chain off of the gate completely, and grabs a length of it between their hands.

If you choose to break the chain, please copy the text below and include it in your post.
(CHARACTER NAME) chooses to help the team Break the Chain on the gate.

[Choice 2]:
It’s never a bad idea to know your options when trying to make a swift exit and if it’s possible to enter the marketplace without alerting whatever they’re trying to be so cautious of, that’s worth a little extra time. Your character decides to walk the length of the wall with a few of their comrades and look for any break in the structure they could climb through.

If you choose to examine the outer wall, please copy the text below and include it in your post.
(CHARACTER NAME) chooses to Scout the Wall for an alternative entrance.

Lt. Chambersite chooses to help the team Break the Chain on the gate.

Chambersite had followed along slowly, not making any conversation with anyone else. It was his first time in 'The Rift' afterall, and while he could have been making small talk with others, he was still trying to take it all in. It was quite amazing! He had questions about all of it, but they would have to wait until later. He knew that no one would want to be bothered with any of his silly little questions on such a serious mission.

He faithfully followed the General King though, and after what seemed to be some time, they were finally at the 'Marketplace' and were presented with a locked gate.

Chambersite had two choices. Well technically he had three, the third one being that he could just stand there watching everyone split up or noisily tear down the gate. Sure, they probably could have scaled it, a fourth option? but it would be easier if the gate was down. While he could stand back and watch everyone else, that wasn't something that would make a good first impression.

He could do try to figure out another way in. But that would put him more at risk of being attacked by youma. He knew he was more powerful than a regular human at this point, but he had heard about these... youma. And some of the agents that he had seemed were, half-youma was it? Their auras seemed so much stronger compared to those who were of the same level.

No, youma weren't to be messed with.

That and even if they did find a way in on the side wall, wouldn't it be better to open the gate anyway? If the hole in the wall was small enough, that would make it harder for them to escape if they ever needed it.

He sighed. He didn't have much of a choice here, or at least as much as his brain considered it. Perhaps he would try a more risky choice next time, but either way this wasn't going to end too well if there were hungry youma waiting nearby.

He went up to the gate, grabbing part of it, though gently. He wasn't about to start tugging with no direction. Nor was he about to do this all by himself. If everyone chose to go and look along the wall, well he would just look silly messing with the chain then.

Lieutenant Chrysoprase chooses to Scout the Wall for an alternative entrance.

The two lieutenants stuck together like bread and butter through the long path to the market, and Chrysoprase felt better and better about her choice as their General Sovereign seemed in high spirits. His heartiness had a way of totally chasing back the creep factor in this place! Chrysie gave a grateful squeeze of her fellow lieutenant's arm, relishing the ebb of her nerves.

Portunus Square didn't sound much like a place where she'd stash a gear, but Chrysie figured youma weren't that great at hiding things. Or maybe they wanted the gear to be found? No, that couldn't be right. Why would they bar the gate if they wanted their gear found?

"Um," Chrysie broached, her fingers straying to her lower lip, "I'm not really sure that attacking that gross chain would help us out much. It looks like the underside of my mom's sink," she finished with a grimace. She gave Argellite a sidelong glance, then tugged their hands in the direction of the remaining outer wall. "What do you say we find somewhere else to get in? That guy's probably got the chain handled with the General-King." Plus she didn't want to ruin her uniform on some grimy gate chain just yet.

Lt. Neptunite chooses to help the team Break the Chain on the gate.

Neptunite couldn't say he was terribly interested in finding out if his gloves were up to the task of keeping out whatever ,might happily slice up his hands on that aged chain, but there was, however, a vested interest in staying within what felt like a safe distance of a General King who at least came off as sort of neighborly and jovial, in an 'probably killed your neighbor, stole their soul and moved into their house' way, given what he was and where they were.

He tugged at his gloves and cuffs with a grimace, trying not to think about all the remarkable ways this place probably had to kill them all, and moved up closer to the gate.

"We can probably break the chain off ... comparatively quietly if more of us help support it, so it rattles less. Although given the state of the gate I'm not sure how much it matters to be quiet."

Lt. Argellite chooses to Scout the Wall for an alternative entrance.

When Chrysie had reached out for her arm the purple haired lieutenant had offered it gladly--eagerly--and one gloved hand hand lay across the the fingers tucked into the crook of her elbow. Holding as much much as being held, taking comfort in the familiarity and closeness as they walked through the eerie and desolate landscape. It felt to Argellite, as they'd made their way along, that they were being funneled along a path, but she'd breathed a sigh of relief when the rocky walls had opened up again.

The town didn't look all that impressive to her; just a bunch of broken down and deserted buildings. Nothing special that she could see, but apparently the thing they were looking for was hidden here. A gear. Just how big? And where did they even start to look?

None of that mattered until they got in there.

Chrysoprase was tugging on her arm as she considered this dilemma and she blinked, head turning and brows arching. "Hmm? Oh, yeah." It didn't matter to her one way or the other, she wasn't about to leave her friend's side without good reason.

Smiling, she fell into step on the other lieutenant's side.

Lt. Strengite chooses to Scout the Wall for an alternative entrance.

Well at least the General King was in high spirits, his chirpy words once again rose a silver brow on Strengite. He lead them along a path that quickly drooped down into a single file crystal passage before spitting them out at a crossroads. Playing follow the leader wasn't really her thing but this was the Rift, she had been warned against just wandering around down here. 'Dangers abound' and all that crap. Apparently Lepidolite had some idea of what he was doing, that or he made a damn good guess, because he didn't hesitate to take them all down one of the paths that ended at a busted a** wall, nasty chained gate, and a chewed up sign that welcomed them to Portunus Square.

They were now faced with two options, break the chain or find another way in. There was no way in hell she was touching that nasty s**t, besides it looked like work, so she was going to do the easy thing and leisurely stroll around the wall. With a nearly imperceptible sniff of disdain Strengite began to slowly drift off down one of the sides of the wall, careful not to twist her ankle on the detritus that was everywhere. Let the others do all the work, she will just take it easy.

General Benitoite chooses to Scout the Wall for an alternative entrance.

The walk had mostly been silent, with the General keeping a sharp eye on their surroundings. It wasn't that he didn't trust the General King leading them, he trusted the man as much as he could, but whoever said another pair of eyes wasn't a good thing? Especially when it came to watching for youma. This was their territory and they were, in a sense, invading it. These youma would be old and less likely to be friendly with people, even agents of chaos.

When they hit their first problem he stopped and took a glance about. "Cuprite....stay with me. We're going to see if we can't find another opening. I don't trust making noise by cutting that chain. There is no way to silence that completely...and the youma here aren't like to play nice and I don't care to let them know we're here...much less invading their home." He stated as he glanced at the group he was with. It was while looking about that his gaze landed on the white haired officer.

"Strengite.." Wanting to keep his voice low he motioned his little group to follow him.

Captain Piypite chooses to help the team Break the Chain on the gate.

The walk through the crystal passageway was like a walk through some gate into a mythical world. Problem was on the other end wasn't rainbows and unicorns. No what waited them was aged ruins and what Piy bet was things looking to make them dinner.

The Rift was not her favorite place. She had survived out here before and come back...better. However that didn't mean she wanted to chance yet another take on death while she was out there.

Though the idea of someone else's death might have been interesting.

Eying Wardite, she walked towards the old chain, using a passing moment to give the corrupt a nod. Even if they didn't see each other again today, she would like the pleasure someone soon. The firey woman looked....fun.

A young male had already headed for the chain, followed by what looked like a man going to a party more so than battle. She eyed them both as she walked up beside them and put her hand to the chain length.

"Gentlemen." Piy purred gazing at them. "Why don't we see if we can't cut out some time while the rest of the party gets lost around here."

Captain Wardite chooses to help the team Break the Chain on the gate.

The area looked trashed - well - he'd seen villages back home that might have rivaled it for dilapidation were it not for the strange atmosphere. The thought of being jumped by youma was not a pleasant one - but he'd already survived the horrors of the Rift once - he was not above shoving some of these others down to escape it again if need be.

"Oh, give my regards to your boss," Wardite said with a motion of his head toward the back of Benitoite. "I've got another back to cover as well as his, and priorities you know?" He gave her a suggestive eyebrow wiggle as he motioned his head toward the now leaving Piypite. "Look us up sometime if you're up for a bit o' fun."

Bowing a head to the corrupt as he slid by her, knowing full well that his earlier statement to her could very well be ignored for now - he moved to follow Piypite, looking between the other males at the chain before letting out a small snort as he caught the tail end of Piypite's words - and her tone.

"We've got claws," He added to her statement in a deep irish rumble, his own clawed hands moving to rake against the metal slowly as to not disturb it. "Shouldn't be too hard if you two keep it taught for Piypite and I to sheer through with the proper leverage."

He looked at the two gentlemen, and then gave Piypite a small grin. "Faster than trying to find a hole in the wall at any rate."

Captain Carnotite chooses to help the team Break the Chain on the gate.

At least she had a delightful person to converse with through this mission. That was a brilliant plus. Bonus points? He wasn't a child. While she fully respected the Generals and Captains younger than herself--it wasn't like gaining such status was easy...--there was a definite... well, difference in speaking to someone more in her bracket.

Not to mention this one had a nice face, and wore the uniform whatever forces in place provided him. As he'd gestured to himself, Carnotite had again let her gaze slip along, humming and nodding in approval. "Good reasons to be careful within the Rift, as I said. Your lovely suit will be patched back up if it's torn, and any injuries to your body would heal relatively faster than someone without the Negaverse's... support. But I certainly prefer to try and avoid forming a scar collection. Thoughts yourself?" Some people liked the visual badges of their achievements, and she wouldn't deny some pulled off the scarred look spectacularlly. Of course. Sometimes it just couldn't be avoided.

She accepted his offered hand with a smile, eyes bright and a few bits of electricity crackling about her. "Captain Carnotite." His question made her head tilt and she considered it a moment. Slowly, her smile turned languid, and she gestured towards her various inhuman features. A Lieutenant... was he experienced yet to understand what a half-youma was? "I enjoy what I am, and what power has been gifted to me. I am all the more grateful for the likely chance to utilize it without being concerned with restrictions of spars, or someone catching a photo or video."

In the new group, she'd kept her voice low, and conversation was sparse, sure, but so long as she kept at least two eyes on the lookout for potential trouble as they followed the General King, the third was welcome to flicker some attention back to Alabaster. And ok definitely also enjoying the view of Lepidolite but.... anyone going to blame her? Still, as they moved past faded signs and across worn, broken roads, a creeping unease slithered between her shoulders. Just what had happened to this town? It was... decrepit.

Which left them with two options: follow the General King's lead with the door, or... look around for alternatives. She paused as she considered. On one hand, scouting had a greater chance of providing silent, safer routes in and out... and potentially getting struck by a youma. The door with the chain? Louder, with a larger chance of something big and bad charging at them for the cacophony this thing was going to make... but also put her right near the strongest person in their team, Lepidolite himself. She made a face. "Usually I would advocate for... silence and alternative routes," she murmured to Alabaster. "In this instance, however... I like my chances, a little bit better, staying with the General King." Not that that offered any release to the tension in her shoulders, even as her heels clicked across the flagstones and she joined the other agents gripping the chain, giving them a brief smile, though her eyes lingered all the more on the other half-youma present. Oh that was a pleasant surprise.

Lieutenant Alabaster chooses to help the team Break the Chain on the gate

A part of Alabaster - the very small and very determinedly squashed part of him - wished that either Rob or even that b*****d Sinoite was here. Rob, because the lack of communication still stung even if Alabaster couldn't let go of that - and Sinoite, because, well. It would have given Alabaster an opportunity to bother him as much as he could.

Among other things.

He wasn't thinking of that.

Alabaster shoved both of these things resolutely from his mind and said instead, "Well, it's good at least that these uniforms are - how shall we say it - replenishable. I'd rather not have my best suits ruined, they cost way too much to be replaced."

Although he did rather like the sleekness of his lieutenant garb. Alabaster ran a hand down the smooth linen with a sort of cocky tilt of his head, feeling himself preening under the woman's - Carnotite's, that was her name - attention, because in spite of himself, compliments and flattery were a direct route to Alabaster's head.

"Well, if I were you, I'd enjoy what I had too," said Alabaster airily. "I enjoy what I am, and what I have, so why shouldn't you? But I mean, I am, of course, pretty damn awesome."

As he kept telling himself. Alabaster eyed the chain on the gate, twirling his cane around.

"Are we supposed to do something with our bare hands?" he asked blankly.

Eternal Kamacite chooses to help the team Break the Chain on the gate.

Breaking the chain seemed like a horrible idea. At first. But as soon as it seemed as though most of the group would remain to try and break through, Kamacite thought it best to stay. Safety in numbers, after all.

He doubted that he could actually do much to help, since he was built more for speed than strength, but he could at least try to keep a lookout.

“You don’t think you could just… jump up the wall, could you?” Kamacite glanced down to see if Tiberius was actually still nearby, or if he took Kamacite’s defensiveness as an insult and decided to give him the cold shoulder.

Mauvian Tiberius chooses to help the team Break the Chain on the gate.

The Mauvian trotted along to the gate and eyed it - and the group of officers and senshi that had gathered. They were talking about breaking the chain or going along the wall to scout for entrances, Poprocks went off to scout the wall, Kamacite stuck to the gate. Tiberius was surprised by neither choice.

Tiberius couldn't help but wonder why they weren't just using the most obvious of entrances: up. "How 'bout you try it? I mean, you guys do realize you could probably jump over this thing, right? Or toss each other over it?" Since he had been scolded for perching on Kamacite's shoulder, he couldn't really tell how tall the gate was, but it looked scalable from his point of view.

"Someone pick me up an' lemme have a look right proper, dang it!" He'd scale the first willing-ish person.

Lt. Cuprite chooses to Scout the Wall for an alternative entrance.

Cuprite had spent most of they way to the market looking around in fascination, though he had occasionally pointed out things that caught his eye to his cousin during the trek. He had kept his voice on the low side whenever he did speak since he could tell Benitoite was a bit on the worried side, the stories about the rift he had shared before admittedly had Cuprite a bit nervous to go with the excitement of exploring somewhere new.

Once they came to the wall and the gate, the large blond tilted his head slightly as he looked it over. While the chain didn't look particularly strong anymore it would likely be loud if it was broke so when Benitoite spoke up he wasn't surprised what his cousin had decided. "Will do." He offered up then opened his mouth out of reflex to offer to keep an eye on the higher parts of the wall but bit it back in time. "Should some of us check on side while the others check the other side or just all stick together to check both?"
