Foyer
The foyer is lavish and serves only to stun and wow those who enter the manor. With a high ceiling, crystal chandelier glittering white light, the dark wooden panels stand tall and proud, welcoming you to the home. Stairs lead to the second floor, but a simple ribbon of white marks it as off limits. On the walls, portraits of faces look down, and a few stand out with a haunting familiarity. They almost look like aristocratic versions of past... it is strange, but just coincidence.
Dining room
Down the hall from the foyer is the dinning hall, for room does not do it justice. The room is long and wide, the oak table one solid piece of wood, likely hand carved. Tall windows offer a spectacular view of the gardens, and each place at the table unset, and rather plates of ornate Hors d'oeuvre and other delicacies sit ready to be plundered. Wine is offered liberally by a man in a crisp black suit and says nothing other than asking which bottle you'd prefer.
Entertainment room
The entertainment room is spacious as it is welcoming. A high vaulted ceiling allows voices to carry and the various couches and chairs are comfortable and inviting. A pool table along with a table set up for some modest gambling has been set up, and music plays from hidden speakers. Granted the 8ball is cracked but it still is fine to play with. A large rug covers the floor and shows little use, as if it is brand new just bought for the occasion.
Kitchen
The kitchen is impeccable, clean and bright and utterly premier in the state of the art appliances. The hallway leads back to the gardens, and the main door leads to the dining area. It's any chef's dream and the smell of slow roasted meats and breads fill the air. Food is waiting for later to be served and the few 'staff' hired move in and out with alarming swiftness. There is no reason to be here, as there are better areas to entertain ones self. There are a surplus of knives along the far wall and a wood stove also sits next to the more modern ovens.
As a reminder- when moving rooms, post that you are doing so at the TOP of your post in BOLD. You can move freely through the rooms but always check the main thread's 1st page for NPC and room updates.

Suri Ellis - Entertainment Room
Suri's world came back into focus from a soft voice and a pair of concerned pink eyes. She blinked up at Queenie and slowly her racing thoughts slowed, along with her pulse. There was no time for her to fly off the handle--the situation changed with her student there, and she had to hold herself together enough to ensure that the both of them escaped safely.
"...It was a last minute decision," she responded coolly, bidding her shaking hands to stop so she could sip from her wine glass. She leaned forward in her chair, nodded Queenie closer, and then in a softer voice said, "Listen. Something is at play here--"
Suri paused at the sound of some commotion, and tilted her head just in time to see the card entertainer collapse in a fit of convulsions after a voice came from...nowhere to announce it. She watched him expire with cold eyes, and then she set her wine glass down on the side table adjacent to her couch. Her gaze moved to Queenie, sharp and resolute, and she pushed herself up from the couch to stand, reaching for one of her pupil's hands.
"Stay close to me. Keep your eyes open." She stopped herself of saying anything too telling about their stations in the Negaverse--less for the worry that she'd be heard by other frantic partygoers and more for a general...malaise that had settled in the room, the feeling of eyes on her back no matter her discretion. Apprehensive to move around the room in the dark, she nevertheless pursed her lips and forced herself forward anyway, first taking inventory of the corpse left to dry on the pool table. Suri was no medical professional, and only knew the basics of first aid, but glanced over the card reader anyway on the off chance that his condition had any connections to the strange severance of Zircon from her person, or for any sign that his condition might be contagious and not merely an inconveniently timed seizure.
Evren stared blankly as she let go of the eightball... it was strange as her surroundings seemed... very different from before. She didn't have much time to think about it however as all of a sudden someone had dropped a body on the pool table she was staring at.
Evren could only stare at the card reader's body. Trying to figure out what is going on.

Marnie Rogers in the Foyer
Her eyes were as wide as saucers when she saw the deep gouges in the wall. Immediately, once the painting was ripped from her hands, the girl's reaction was to try and pull down another painting to see if there was the same thing behind it too. It probably wasn't the smartest decision but she wanted to know.
"Oh my god, BEA." She gasped, over the top, dramatic and sort of excited. "This is exactly what we were hoping for when it came to spooky!" It was not the time or the place but Marnie was grinning at her friend.
Or, she was, right up until someone died. That wasn't so great.
"Hm, you think they'd got like crystals and stuff? Maybe I can do a seance and we can talk to his ghost!"

Adaline Prescott in...the Dining Room
Trey steadied her, but the other woman--- Princess? Dutchess? Why couldn't Adaline remember her name? -- practically shoved her off and stomped off before she'd even regained her balance. Adaline was completely oblivious to the notion that the ginger could have been upset with her.
In fact, she was more distracted by the power outage and more horrifyingly the lack of service. The NO SIGNAL flashing across her screen, the lack of bars, the absence of LTE could have easily had her in agony had there not been so much else going on around them.
There was commotion, they were trapped and someone had died.
Instinctively Adaline stepped closer to Trey, stepping into the space left by Queenie. "What was that-- What do we do?"

Beatrice Kellye - Foyer
Her friend's enthusiasm helped wane any distress - Bea wasn't going to get herself worked up if the always cool and totally more mature Marnie wasn't getting worked up. And besides, it wasn't as if some monster was gonna kill all of them -- it would probably pick off the sick and the fat first, since they were the slowest to run away.
At least, that's what made sense in her head anyways.
When the Tarot Reader died, the white haired girl could only stare, transfixed to the spot she was standing in. Beatrice had never actually seen anyone die (outside of horror movies, of course), so it was a little weird to watch in person. Disassociating, even.
When MarnBarn suggested a seance, her attention snapped back into focus, eyebrows furrowing as she elbowed the older girl.
"Girl, you gotta give them time to make it over to the other side. The poor dude probably hasn't even had time to feel in his spook suit yet."

Queenie Powers - Entertainment Room
She was content to listening to her superior's comment but was quickly interrupted by the dramatic scene that played out before them. Pink eyes widened in alarm as the staff member (entertainer, maybe?) fell over and died, right there in the entertainment room. No one rushed to his side to attempt to revive him, he simply just... died.
Alarmed, she gave no resistance as Miss Ellis collected one of her hands and moved closer to investigate. Morbid curiosity had her following after, studying the details of the poor, unfortunate soul that seemed to have choked on something but... hadn't exactly shown the typical signs of choking, in the process. "Y-Yes ma'am."
At her boss's command, she nodded her head and continued to look over the card reader as well along with Suri, not precisely sure what she was to be looking for, aside from staring at a freshly dead, stiff body.
Yick. Who in the world did one even call to clean up a mess like this?

Suri
the corpse would look like any other corpse Suri would have encountered. Save for two things. One, were the wide open blood red stained eyes, and the other was the lack of other smells caused by expiring. His body had yet to enter rigor mortis, but it also seemed to be in a suspended state- much like when a starseed was pulled. The only difference being was that there was no pulse, warmth- he was a corpse in every other manner.

Evren
From her position, a corpse is a corpse. The green torn felt she would see slowly looked to be changing to a red hue- though not a drop of blood was leaving the body.

As another painting was pulled down, there are a lack of scratches under it. This is true for all other paintings. Only 1 painting seems odd. The one with the man in front of a forest. Or rather that had a man in front of a forest.

Queenie
Queenie, avid lover of sweets would notice something Sur would not- the faint aroma of sugar from his chest pocket.
Jada (outfit)- Entertainment Room - has arcane journal
There Jada was, sitting on the floor of the Entertainment Room, surrounded by people and magic books, and something that tickled at the back of her mind. She smiled warmly to Sitara, who had joined them, waving to the gentleman as well, and had absorbed the information about Mercy's mother being an author, who wrote books about a Princess Mercy. And the other girl, the Wiccan- Jada had missed her name, though Jada hadn't exactly given her own before she had jumped into questioning- was going to take them to the kitchen... but then things went to s**t.
Well that's no good. The voice was above them all, and the tarot card reader- Jada had only caught a glimpse, but he'd- "Looks like we don't have time for smudging sage," she told the group, and kept a firm grip on the worn book, because why not, pushing to her feet. She could feel the eyes on her, crawling over her skin, and she tilted her head up under them, straightening her spine, "The hospitality is clearly lacking, if the guests are so bored they've started dying to escape. We have our marching orders."
Dear lord, she had just channeled her mother, in a seemingly haunted house, with a corpse. But if it worked- Szelem had a spine made from spite and titanium, and Jada was powerless- and, still, in a seemingly haunted house, with a corpse. There were worse people she could be channeling.
"Jokes aside, we have no cell phone service and lord only knows what happened to the gentleman over there. We need to find a way out, I'm starting to feel particularly under the weather, and the doors and windows on this floor aren't an option. So, Scooby Gang- are we going upstairs, or bashing in the door to the basement?" Jada had seen this horror movie though, neither was a good option. Her stomach, which had been previous rebelling from the loss of her powers, was now starting to combine into a super-amalgam of awful nerves, and a little terror. "I personally am leaning to the upstairs- even with the weather, it is more likely to have windows. Plus, who knows what kind of magic rituals that basement has seen, with this book selection."
She paused, then asked, dryly, "What do you think, mystery voice from above?"
She didn't expect an answer, but she was feeling some stress-balls going on, and why the hell not?
Quote:
Yes, she made that joke. Leaving it up to the group if y'all want to slide to the other thread and go explore all those mysterious paintings... or go bully poor Maria
"Most of the books were fairly in-line to what one might expect. A few on fashion, history, economics, business management, but as she would look closer a few titles would stand out. There were a few in depth doctor guides on cancer treatments, a few on black magic that looked vaguely authentic, and one book, so well worn, the letters had rubbed away."
"Both Roses ignored Jada- pointedly so. Yet the books held more promise. The well worn book you grabbed in particular seemed to be a journal of sorts. News clippings, articles plastered here and there along with photos. As you flip the pages one thing stands out- The connection to more arcane healing rituals and claims."
"The other books looked more traditional in terms of mainstream consumption for 'magic' or 'witchery'. Only the old tome seems even semi-authentic. "
"The dates of the articles stand out- many are from the 80s. They detail strange events happening in Tokyo. Then, they skip forward to the last 10 years, all about strange events and cancer treatments."

Heather Beauchamp -- Entertainment Room
The thunder alone was enough to make Heather jump, but the sudden appearance of a dead body drove her to her feet, hands grasping at the collar of her own blouse in lieu of anything to cling to. And it wasn't even a clean death. it had seemed to be... poison? Heather had read some mystery novels for school... didn't cyanide make people foam? Or was that arsenic? Not that it mattered, as neither one made people cough up red crystals. Before reality set in, Heather wondered what that thing was, but Maria snatched it up took quickly, broke the shock that held her together, and sent her into trembling panic.
Somewhere in her hidden logical mind, Heather knew that upstairs made for more escape routes should they need, and that a basement was just a glorified barrel in these moments. But all her frantic nerves could stammer out was, "a-anywhere other than here, please..."

Mahogany Shapour -- Foyer
Mahogany, already sopping wet and a mess, walked into a literal horror film. a man lay dead on the pool table and panic setting in around the room. There was a dead body on the pool table and... there was a dead body on... there was a dead body. Dead body.
Mahogany made a small sound of bone-deep fear in his throat and decided that it was probably time to high tail it out of that room before his beautiful a** was next. He stopped only when the beam of a flashlight passed over him and he followed it, drawn like a moth to someone with a light.
"A guy died," Mahogany managed with a shaking voice.
"A guy died, I got attacked by a <******** bird, my makeup and these slacks are ruined, and where did you get that flashlight?"
She knows she should bother someone to walk around with her... but the things she was seeing felt like people would think she was just being paranoid. Thinking it was time to get moving to another room. Evren began to walk... only to clumsily trip on her own two feet onto the rug...
Rubbing her nose she looked down at the rug... she might have moved it in her fall...

Marnie Rogers - In the Foyer but leaving to go upstairs
Marnie deflated when she pulled another painting off the wall and found nothing strange behind it. In fact, she not only deflated, but she was pouting, dropping the painting on the floor and letting it rest against the wall without caring too much about what happened it it going further.
Still, she fished her phone out and used the lighting to help her examine the other paintings until blue eyes settled on the painting with the man in the forest.
Marnie squinted at it, nearly pressing her face against it before she tried to take it down and with her.
Then she grabbed her besties hand and dragged her around the banister and upstairs with her. [Exit to Upstairs]

Bo Hanley is in the kitchen, drinking with Shahar and the waitress.
See, parties weren't ruined; they just changed! You create the party! Bo was floating on air (from his buzz) but also from the company and camaraderie of three strangers drinking wine and eating by candlelight. Bo watched the bottle move from Shahar to the waitress. "Bo," he said, by way of introduction. He took the bottle from the waitress and gestured to himself with it, before taking another long swig. "Hey, Shay," he mused, smiling at the rhyme. Then he regarded the waitress. "What should we call you?"
There was a sound of a commotion in the next room, but Bo didn't move to enter it, missing the death of Jeff and the strange red crystal situation altogether. He did, however, manage to hear Maria. Glancing from Shahar to the waitress he shrugged and said, "Why is everyone so eager to leave?" He glanced around, looking for anything that may have changed in the kitchen since the latest occurrence. Were the pastries safe??

Penny Figgins is in the entertainment room, standing near Jeff's body on the pool table.
"Sounds like a party," Penny had said to Jeff, smiling. Everything he said made her lean in closer, eyes flashing with intrigue. There was DEFINITELY a story here, and Jeff was her ticket to the truth. "Maria sounds shady." She paused, considering her next question carefully. "What do you mean secrets? Is there a fun hidden passageway that you and I should explore later?" He was flirty and full of information -- a beautiful combination, even if he didn't look like he was feeling great.
And then... it happened. Jeff died.
Penny had jumped up as Jeff suddenly coughed up a crystal and died, eyes wide. She was not often speechless, but that left her so. She had tried to reach for the crystal, but Maria had beat her to it, apparently more concerned with that than the dead body. "WHAT THE ********, YOU a*****e," she said loudly, to Maria's retreating form. The voice, the warnings -- Jeff had been trying to tell her to be careful and then. ******** ******** ******** ********.
People swarmed over to him, people who hadn't been there a moment ago, but it all happened in flashes. The dude had been flirting with her, and now he was dead. Penny scowled at Queenie and Suri, though she couldn't blame their examination. "Jeff was just telling me that the sisters made them sign ******** NDAs, that there were secrets they had seen that they couldn't talk about, and that his boss, Maria, took the contract anyway. This smells like s**t -- where is she?" Maggie whipped around, looking for Maria and pressing her hand against the felt, a few inches away from Jeff's body.
At first, you wouldn't expect the voice to respond but it does- and oh boy it make itself known. "To go below you ask help from above!" The voice replied, tone mirthful despite the goings on. Down from the shadows a large raven flies landing atop Jada's head, claws prickling her scalp. "Oh you're a short one! Shame and a pity- But yes yes- that's the thing. Nothing! What goods a book to do without a recipe to brew? Words on paper make a poor potion." The bird is clearly normal- save the voice that is eerily human coming from it.
