- Terra isn't always the most polite person in the world. She can be pretty cold and blunt with people, and just likes to keep things simple and straight to the point. While she's not always nice per se, she places great value in always being kind. She cares deeply about the well-being of others, and offers her services to those in need. She is strong and confident in her abilities, but knows there are heights she has yet to reach. She's a bit rough around the edges, but likes to think she has a heart of gold. She does not tolerate any injustice, and gladly stands up against it whenever the opportunity arises. She gets labeled as a troublemaker sometimes because of this, but she refuses to let other people's opinions change her convictions.
History |
- Terra was born in Summermount to a demon who’d originally come from a demon plane, looking for a more peaceful life. The father was Xavier Knighton, head of the noble Knighton family of Aeston, notable for being gifted in earth magic. Xavier was in Arensey, a major city, doing business, when the affair occurred. While affairs weren’t unheard of among the noble families, one resulting in a nephilim b*****d would have been a huge embarrassment. Rather than deal with the shame, Xavier paid the demon to keep the child and never tell anyone who she was.
Terra lived with her mother for a bit in a village outside Arensey, bordering the lawless deserts, however she began to grow sick when Terra seven. Her mother was unable to figure out what was wrong with her visiting local doctors, but when she visited a mage for healing, she discovered she’d been cursed. Suspecting Terra’s father, her mother told her everything. They had another couple of years together before she passed away from the curse, never able to find a cure. She grew more and more paranoid as she neared her end, afraid that Xavier would come for Terra next. Angry, and afraid that the Knightons would come for her, Terra ran into the desert after her mother’s death.
At ten years old, Terra wandered from town to town, just trying to survive. She would lash out with her powers, potent earth and fire magics, destroying buildings and injuring people. She was afraid of herself and her magic for a while. One day when she was thirteen, a man tried to arrest her, claiming she’d racked up a huge bounty with all the damages she’d caused. She attacked him with her magic, hurting him badly. Realizing what she’d done, she helped him to a hospital, and stayed in town until he’d recovered, knowing it might mean she’d be arrested.
When he recovered, he offered her a deal, saying now that he’d seen her, he didn’t really comfortable bringing in a kid. He was something of a bounty hunter, and tracked down criminals to help keep the peace. If Terra helped him in his work for a bit, she could pay off her bounty herself. From that point on, they began traveling together, bringing in criminals, and helping people where they could. Terra grew fond of her new father figure, Wallace, and continued working with him even when Terra had worked off her bounty.
When Terra was sixteen, everything changed. They’d set up camp outside a town, and Terra had gone into it for supplies, leaving Wallace to watch the camp. Marauders with a score to settle attacked their camp, killing Wallace. They were waiting for Terra when she got back. Upon seeing what they’d done, Terra flew into a frenzy. Her memories of the event are hazy, but when she came to, the surrounding area was burnt and destroyed, and none of the marauders were alive.
She packed up and ran again, trying to work solo. Keeping herself fed and in an inn each night wasn’t hard, but Terra wanted more from her job. She wanted to make Summermount safe. Over the next two years though, she felt a growing sense of despair, knowing that she wasn’t really making a difference out there. The world felt a little darker when she failed, and even when she took down the baddie of the day, it didn’t stop the next one from showing up. Deciding she needed to grow stronger, she made her way into Aeston.
She’d heard about Queen Cordelia Academy on the news, and how it offered kids and young adults Knight training, helping them hone their powers. Needing more than a first name, she took her mother’s name, Rhelaris, as a middle name, and Knighton as her last name, more out of spite than anything else, upon entering the country. She's been pretty open about her past since arriving in Aeston, and a few articles in disreputable tabloid magazines have popped up about her. Her father got in touch with her, offering her money to go back on her claims, but Terra turned him down.
She's spent the past few months working in Whiteridge, a city not too far from Silverkeep, saving up some money before making her way to QCA.
