The world consists of one main continent, Eimera. All the countries below, besides Drappon, exist on this continent.
- Aeston
Lying near the heart of Eimera, Aeston is the center for culture and commerce. Containing various ambassador buildings and large marketplaces, the transfer of knowledge, labor, and goods goes on almost non-stop. Queen Cordelia Academy is located in Silverkeep, the nation’s capital, and attracts students from all over Aeston and beyond. The native race here is humans, and most of the country’s nobility is human, including its current ruler, a direct descendant of Queen Cordelia, but they are no longer a majority in this multicultural nation.
- Aestonian Isles
Off the coast of Aeston are a cluster of islands, large and small, which are technically Aestonian land, but most act as their own countries. All inhabitants are treated as Aestonian citizens if they visit the mainland, and the isles themselves are offered protection from Aeston’s military. Aeston’s government makes little effort to reap any benefits from its colonies, and it’s unclear why it has hung onto them throughout the years.
Some islands live a simple life, free of modern technology and politics, and others are happy to be a part of Aeston, building bustling economies on tourism and agriculture. Most people on any of the isles are able to live comfortably through their hard work. Many sailors make their living traveling between the islands.
- Icelands
(Talk with tityanya about important context for life in the icelands before you make a character from here!)
To the north of Aeston lies the Icelands, home to races that enjoy, or at can withstand, the cold. The land itself is broken up into a several territories, but act as one sovereign nation when it comes to international politics, and are united under a single leader. The lands are a varied type: fields of snow, forests decorated with crystal-like ice, mountain peaks howling with frigid winds, and sleek ice caves with mineral rich rock beneath.
There are a few palaces made of ice across the land. Common houses are rustic wooden cabins that litter across the region, enticing travelers for shelter from the cold. In the mountains lie caverns carved by dwarves, powered by elaborate steam machines for their mining operations.
- Moonbriar
Lying between Icelands and Aeston, the two nations once feuded over this territory. However, both have abandoned it after the events Phantom War, during which it was shrouded in an unending night that lasts to this day. This city appears to be a ghost town boarded off by a massive wall, but looking closely one can see that more goes on here than meets the eye. A handful of crime lords run rampant through the streets, and face little resistance to their unofficial rule over chunks of the city. Hardier folks who like the night and can handle a little danger tend to settle here, like vampires and certain breeds of demon, but almost no one comes here without a very good reason.
There are countless rumors about this city that circulate throughout the continent, but lately there have been a concerning number about strange decaying beings who wander around the streets. Despite records of them existing, the inhabitants of the city claim to have everything under control and assure neighbors there is nothing to worry about. Though, the increased security issued from the ruling "lords" of the city begs to differ.
- Braela
Closer to home is neighboring Braela, an ancient elven country with deep roots in magic. They have a longstanding alliance with Aeston, dating back to before the Phantom War. Despite a history steeped in tradition, Braela has modernized along with the rest of the world, and produces a lot of the world’s new magical items and technology. Many of the world’s best hospitals, schools, and research facilities can be found here.
Certain groups of purist elves live in seclusion away from modernized civilizations, still practicing magic thought to be lost to the ages. They interact frequently with the Fae Realms, as most of the rifts to their world are located in Braelan forests. For the most part though, Braela is peaceful and brimming with activity, like its ally Aeston.
- Floating City Caelum and Mysterious Construct
With no set location, the city of Caelum floats in the air, following a large magical structure of unknown origin. The city began as an airship from Braela, sent to study the mysterious structure. The original crew has long since retired, but study of the structure continues today. The mysterious construct appears to be a temple of sorts, kept aloft by some ancient form of magic. It is unclear who created it and what its purpose was, but everyone in Caelum has their own theories and hypotheses.
The airship’s population grew with more scholars over the years, eventually forming a university. The ship has been built upon and expanded, and is now the size of the city, and runs on an engine that draws power from the magic of the construct to stay afloat, never needing or able to land. As the campus turned into a city of merchants, taking advantage of their home traveling all over the world, the country of Braela officially recognized Caelum as a city belonging to it.
The city of Caelum is split into four main parts. Above deck is the University of Caelum, where scholars come to study the construct. The University also offers regular classes for students. Also above deck is a sprawling marketplace. A true nexus of culture, people from every part of the Eimera and beyond have made Caelum their home. Products from all over the continent can be found in every shop. Various restaurants also offer authentic food cooked by native chefs. Below decks are the living quarters. Most of the students and scholars live in dorms at the university, but the merchants and tourists stay in living quarters resembling a maze-like apartment complex. The final section is a huge hangar, where smaller airships carry cargo and passengers in and out of the city.
Caelum is a crowded place, and no one goes there without reason. There are few jobs available here, and securing permanent residence is difficult. Unless you are a scholar, merchant, or chef, it is best to visit Caelum as a tourist. Even the part time jobs are mostly taken up by students at the university.
- Summermount
On the southern tip of the continent is the large country of Summermount, a perpetually warm country, with environments like deserts being prominent, but featuring rain forests as well. Many of Eimera's highest mountains are found here. Many different kinds of people call this large country their home, but they are all strong and durable. A lot of raw materials like iron, wood, rubber, and coal are exported from here.
Summermount’s government is strongest in its cities, which are among the safest and wealthiest in the world, but it has little power in the barren wastelands of its deserts and hard to navigate rainforests. These parts of the country are plagued by roaming bands of marauders. In an effort to keep the peace, Summermount's government allows bounty hunters to go after any criminals in these lawless areas for a reward.
- Tianti Yaolan / Drappon
(Speak with KiaBurst if you want a character from here)
The true name of this mysterious nation is Tianti Yaolan, but in Eimera, most know only know it as Drappon. It separated from the rest of the world by sea, and ever present storms surrounding the nation keep most planes and ships from making frivolous trips to its shores. It is ruled by an elusive race of dragons, and is home to many other races ostracized or feared for their abilities call these lands their home as well.
Other countries exist on this smaller island-continent in the form of city states scattered throughout the wilds surrounding Drappon, but the culture of Drappon largely dominates all of the civilized areas, and the lords of the city states mostly swear fealty to the current Empress, crowned recently after the death of her father. Disturbing news of mass murders taking place there make headlines once every few weeks, but news coverage of the incidents seem rather sparse given their frequency and gravity. Many around the world are wondering if a genocide of some sort is taking place, but none of the facts are adding up.
- Outer Realms
Our world is connected to other planes through dimensional rifts. These rifts open on their own rarely, but can be forced open with special magic in certain areas around the world. Traveling directly between realms without visiting our world seems to be impossible, so it is speculated that these worlds are somehow dependant on ours. They are superficially categorized by the Knights according to what kind of life resides there. There are the Demon Realms, Fae Realms, and Celestial Realms.
Demon planes typically wastelands filled with grotesque creatures. Many of these realms are considered hostile, and the Vanguard spends most of their time making sure nothing that invades does any harm.
There are two Fae Realms, the Seelie Realm and the Unseelie Realm. Rifts to these realms can usually only be opened in heavily forested areas. Fae from both realms are generally considered allies, though conflicts occasionally arise with the Unseelie.
The Celestial Realms have never been visited by residents of our world or the other realms, but angels and other divine creatures sometimes wind up exiled here. The beings theorized to rule over these realms are worshipped by most of the world, and certain magics are able to call upon their divine power.
