Welcome

Welcome to Anthemusa: The Convention's Gaming Hall!

Here you'll find several 'private' booths in which you, a potential contender, have the opportunity to test a beta for a new MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game that AI™ is considering in investing in. Each person plays 'privately', their temporary usernames and screen displayed on a projector screen set up for audience members to watch, if they care to.

Anonymously divided into teams and pitted against a random player, this beta test is good for the game-inclined and those who just want to be part of something shiny and new before it possibly launches to the masses.

The person who ends up ranking the highest might find themselves walking away with a prize and who knows, there might even be something for all participants to take home by the end of it too!

The Rules

      • Please refer back to the main thread for all overarching event rules.
      • Only two characters per player for point tallies (potential prize winnings). IF you wish to have a character participate and it puts you past the two character per player rule, they may participate under the stipulation that they are ineligible for any prizes or 'status' from the game regardless of how well they do.
      • This game is a bit of a cyoa meets dice mechanics and different roles will lead you to different prompts, please make sure you are using the correct response as you move forward.
      • This is a 'single-player' style game, which means you are alone, interacting with the prompts as they come. At the end of your 'game' (by winning or losing your match) you may move to the 'spectator' area.
      • Pending the number of 'winning' participating gamers, there may be multiple rounds, in the case of an odd numbered amount of matches, I will supplement an opponent for the gamer.
      • One post per roll per gamer.
      • For the sake of ease on my part, please separate character posts.
      • When adding (or subtracting) for your total, first add the number you rolled and then any modifiers based on the number rolled.
      • No deleting posts, if you are caught deleting posts you will be disqualified and asked to exit the event entirely. If you mess up a roll, simply state that the post is null and void and do a new post with a new role.
      • All questions are to be directed to me, via DM, the event-channel with an @, or posted here

The Game

The gaming corner is noisy and an announcer stands next to the screen on a small raised platform with a microphone.

"Welcome, friends, spectators, and gamers!" She says with a cheery voice, green painted lips split into a pearly white, straight smile full of teeth and piazza. "Argent Industries is ever so pleased to welcome you to the first official beta testing of Gladiators of the Gallows, a new MOBA-style game, by a new indie gaming company; Roman's Chalice." She pauses to brush equally vibrantly green hair out of her face before she waves at the screen.

"Here we'll get to witness randomly assigned teams of five go up against each other in hopes that they'll come out victorious to move on to the next stage!" The excitement in her tone is starting to fall flat but her practiced, performance smile doesn't doesn't falter. "For those interested in participating, please see the sign up booth to the left of the projector screen. For those that would rather watch, take a seat! The beta tournament's set to begin shortly!"

Cass gestures to the various areas before she fastens the mic back to it's place on the stand. "If you have any questions, check with myself or one of the staff members." Her tone implies it's better to ask one of the volunteers instead of her and she steps of the platform and nearly disappears over by the gaming computers the company had provided for the event.

Her bright green hair is still easy enough to spot, assuming you don't mistake a cosplayer for her since they're surely out there!

((OOC: Please use the following form when you are going about your run in the game. You do not have to wait for others to roll, no PC character is in your round unless specified by me otherwise. All prompts outside of prompt 1 are spoilered to reduce the amount of text. If you are simply spectating, you do not need to include the last two lines from the form in each post.))

        Character Name: Who are you
        Team: RED/BLUE/SPECTATOR
Prompt #: What prompt you are currently on.
POINT TALLY: Excluding the initial roll that places you on a team, here is where you keep a total count of your rolls

        Prompt 1

        Roll 1D4:
        Evens = Red Team
        Odds = Blue Team

You've arrived at the tournament ring and find that you've been assigned a 'team' and a station. When you enter your codename, the screen displays basic controls that you'll find posted on one of the walls that keep you separated from the other players. Next to the keyboard and mouse is a headset that you think will connect you with the mystery members of your 'team'.

When the game loads, you find you have three options:

Murmillo, whose large shield marks them for the 'defense' role.

Rudiarius, whose light and practical gear marks them for the 'melee' role.

Velites, whose spear marks them for the 'ranged' role.

Select your fighter and proceed to prompt 2.

        Prompt 2

You find yourself deposited into the arena, a classic three pronged stage with four other players. There's a chat function that's displayed but remains relatively empty, a few pings of various chatter and the screen is filled with various trees and rocks. After a quick discussion among your team, you split up down the various paths.

2A: IF YOU CHOSE MURMILLO Grab your 'partner' and proceed down the top path. Roll 1D6.
1-2: You have encountered an enemy's minion and successfully defeat it. Add +1 to your total
3-4: You and your partner have found an enemy tower and manage to weaken it. Add +3 to your total.
5-6: You and your partner successfully destroy 6 minions. Add +5 to your total.

        Proceed to prompt 3

2B: IF YOU CHOSE RUDIARIUS Go it alone, proceed down the center path. Roll 1D6.
1-2: You've been ambushed! The urge to retreat is strong, but you persevere and defeat them, albeit with difficulty! Add +1 to your total.
3-4: Your minions advance on a pack of enemies, they take a beating but you remain strong. Add +3 to your total.
5-6: You and your minions are successful in making it up your pathway, taking out 5-10 enemies alone! Add +5 to your total.

        Proceed to prompt 3

2C: IF YOU CHOSE VELITES Grab your 'partner' and proceed down the bottom path. Roll 1D6.
1-2: Something sneaks up on you from behind and you don't have enough time to turn around or put distance between you to effectively use your weapon. Still, you manage to fend them off and defeat them. Add +1 to your total.
3-4: You and your partner are nearly ambushed but you keep minions at arm length away while striking. Add +3 to your total.
5-6: Your handy dandy spear and partner help you keep enemies at bay without risking too much damage to you. You take out 6 minions with it's range! Add +5 to your total.

        Proceed to prompt 3

        Prompt 3
Regardless of who you've chosen as your fighter and the fact that you know what the goal of the game is, to take the enemy base, you also know that you need to take out the most amount of enemies to rack up the most amount of points. As you trudge along your designated path, you can't help but scan the foliage in hopes of finding minions or enemy heroes as well as towers to disable.

3A: IF YOU CHOSE MURMILLO Continue down the path. Roll 1D6.
1-2: You only encounter a handful of enemy minions who are almost pitiful against the defense of your shield. You continue on, bored. Add +1 to your total.
3-4: You find an enemy tower but also a handful of enemy minions. Unfortunately one of you takes damage despite defeating both minions and tower. Add +3 to your total
5-6: Not only do you locate a tower, with the assistance of your partner, you defeat them swiftly and with minimal damage. Something about your shielding techniques are impeccable. Add +5 to your total

        Proceed to prompt 4

3B: IF YOU CHOSE RUDIARIUS Continue down the path. Roll 1D6.
1-2: The only thing you find on your lonesome is a handful of minions. Dispatching them is almost painfully easy. You move forward, unimpressed. Add +1 to your total.
3-4: When you finally locate the first tower, you manage to take it alone, with some difficult, and sustain some damage. Add +3 to your total
5-6: Nothing is mightier than the gladiator and his sword! Something about your strikes are purposeful and true, you defeat the tower without problems. Add +5 to your total

        Proceed to prompt 4

3C: IF YOU CHOSE VELITES Continue down the path. Roll 1D6.
1-2: You find a handful of enemies instead of a tower. Between your ally and your ranged weapon, dispatching them is easy and lackluster. You move on, disappointed. Add +1 to your total.
3-4: Your spear requires two hands to wield and despite destroying a tower with some ease, the lack of a shield means that you end up taking some damage. Add +3 to your total
5-6: What you lack in defense, you make up for with range and between you and your ally the tower you find is quickly defeated. Add +5 to your total

        Proceed to prompt 4

        Prompt 4
The pairs that trace the outside continue to gain distance, working on taking out enemies and towers alike. They're careful to monitor their health, given that their healing partner only has so much mana to sustain them until they make it to the base and remain vigilant. The lone ranger trudges forward, ever vigilant as there is no one but their minions to aid them if things get rough, but they've passed the halfway mark and victory must be on the horizon.

4A: IF YOU CHOSE MURMILLO You've encountered an enemy tower! Roll 1D6
1-2: A shield can only handle so much abuse and the onslaught of enemies is too great for you despite your best attempts. When your shield breaks, you go down with it. You have been eliminated. Subtract -3 from your total.
3: Your shield is heavy in your hands and while it provides great defense to you against the enemy, wielding both a large shield and a weapon is taxing. Your shield drops and the enemy takes advantage, striking you down to a critical level of health. Luckily, your partner is a healer and they're hard at work trying to heal you! Take an extra turn to Roll 1D4. Evens = You successfully restore your health by half! Add +2 to your total. Odds = Unfortunately the enemy strikes you down before your healer casts their spell. You have been eliminated. Subtract -5 from your total.
4-6: Your shield is as strong as your resolve and despite the assault your shield never wavers and you clear this wave of opponents with your ally triumphantly! Add +4 to your total.

If you have not been eliminated this prompt, please proceed to prompt 5.

4B: IF YOU CHOSE RUDIARIUS You've encountered an enemy! Roll 1D6
1-2: Going alone is always extra dangerous and unfortunately you have been overwhelmed by the enemy. As the last of your minions go down, so do you. You have been eliminated. Subtract -3 from your total.
3: You manage to defeat their minions but lose yours in turn. The enemy hero has landed a heavy blow and you're down to a sliver of health.
Luckily you have a HP potion! Take an extra turn to Roll 1D4. Evens = You successfully restore your health by half! Add +2 to your total. Odds = Unfortunately the enemy strikes you down before you can click "use". You have been eliminated. Subtract -5 from your total.
4-6: Going alone allows you to move forward with minimal notice. You successfully clear the path of enemies with your proficiency with the blade! Add +4 to your total.

If you have not been eliminated this prompt, please proceed to prompt 5.

4C: IF YOU CHOSE VELITES You and your partner have been cornered by enemy minions! Roll 1D6
1-2: Despite your best efforts you and your partner have been outmatched. After losing all of your minions, the enemy's overwhelm you and your HP hits 0. You have been eliminated. Subtract -3 from your total.
3: The range of your spear helps you keep enemies at bay, unfortunately you've taken a nasty hit and only have a few HP remaining.
4-6: The dexterity in which you wield your weapon is impressive and you and your ally defeat all of the minions and are able to advance forward. Add +4 to your total.

If you have not been eliminated this prompt, please proceed to prompt 5.

        Prompt 5
Up ahead you can see the outline of the base you're so close to capturing but in your way stands two defense towers and your supplies are limited. Allies have minimal mana and must conserve it for the final battle and your own boosts are beginning to wear off but the final battle is quickly approaching and you're determined to make it to the final leg. You must defeat the towers to move forward.

        5A: IF YOU CHOSE MURMILLO
1-2: You fail to provide adequate defense to your spell castor when they attempt to launch an attack, as a result their HP depletes and they are defeated. You manage to make it through but the cost is great, the final battle will be a struggle. Still you defeat the towers and can move forward. Subtract -2 from your total.
3-4: You manage to deflect one of the attacks and take down a tower however your ally has to use the rest of their mana to make sure you aren't defeated. They're still able to fight, but the upcoming battle will be a struggle. Add +1 to your total
5-6: Between your shield and your ally's spells and melee attacks, both towers go down with a minimal cost to either of you. Add +3 to your total

        Proceed to prompt 6

        5B: IF YOU CHOSE RUDIARIUS
1-2: Ever thankful for minions when you're tromping alone, you attempt to take out the tower. You succeed, but you lose all of your minions making the next stretch of the game more difficult. Subtract -2 from your total.
3-4: Your minions are the perfect target to draw fire away from you, you lose half of your force but you still take down both towers and are able to move forward and reunite (hopefully) with your allies. Add +1 to your total
5-6: You are swift and true, laying waste to the towers with the assistance of your minions who draw fire but do not go down. You move forward without too much damage. Add +3 to your total

        Proceed to prompt 6

        5C: IF YOU CHOSE VELITES
1-2: Enemy minions crowd you too close to the tower and make it difficult to wield your spear in such close range. Your ally helps free you but takes a shot to the back from the tower and are defeated. Rage helps you defeat the towers alone, but you are without a teammate and the final battle will be difficult. Subtract -2 from your total.
3-4: Wielding a spear allows you to strike from further away but when you're mobbed by minions and targets by a laser, it's hard to have excellent aim. You manage to strike down a tower but your ally uses the last of their mana to heal you from the brink of death. Moving forward is possible but will be a struggle. Add +1 to your total
5-6: You and your ally are the perfect combination, spears flying and staffs whacking until both towers go down. With their remaining mana intact, you think that you have a fair chance as you trek forward to finally face the enemy base. Add +3 to your total

        Proceed to prompt 6

        Prompt 6
The other team has been wearing you and your allies down but the enemy base is within sight and that means victory might very well be within your grip! If you're fortunate, you and your allies have met up. If you are less fortunate, you are either alone or with the few that have made it back to you. While you wish you could say farewell to the fallen, you have more pressing things to worry about. Like winning. (Or losing, but optimism is encouraged.)

6A: IF YOU CHOSE MURMILLO You have made it to the enemy base! Roll 1D6
1-2: A shield is only as durable as it's wielder and unfortunately as your allies are picked apart and defeated, your will is breaking. In the end, a heavy blow not only destroys your shield but your HP as well. You have been eliminated! Subtract -5 points from your total.
3-4: With your trusty shield protecting you from the worst of the damage you've trudged forward, taking out enemies by ramming and slaying them. Unfortunately, the shield blocks your vision and you miss someone slipping to the right and your HP is stolen by the blade that pierces your character. You go down with the base nearly at your fingertips. You have been eliminated! Subtract -3 points from your total.
5-6: You are as sturdy and as immovable as the force behind your shield. You defend and protect your allies as your minions and their attacks lay waste to the enemy base and it's defenses. Finally the shield goes down and you lead your team forward, shield lifted just in case but there's nothing to fear. You've conquered the last of the base's defenses! Congratulations! You've taken the base! Add 5 points to your total.

If you win, please quote Nuxaz, if you are eliminated, please exit the game station and join the spectators.

6B: IF YOU CHOSE RUDIARIUS You have made it to the enemy base! Roll 1D6
1-2: You started the game largely alone and it is alone that you face the enemy base, your allies defeated before you even made it back together. Despite your efforts to power through, you are overwhelmed. You have been eliminated! Subtract -5 points from your total.
3-4: A sword and shield are not enough when it comes to overcoming that last hurdle before victory. Your allies fall and despite the fact only one opponent stands between you and victory, you are disarmed and struck down. You have been eliminated! Subtract -3 points from your total.
5-6: Meeting up with your allies has proven to be useful when it comes to breaking through the last of the enemy's defenses! Your talents with the blade have allowed you to outmaneuver and outwit your opponents and you cross the threshold to eliminate the last of the enemy base's defense! Congratulations! You've taken the base! Add 5 points to your total.

If you win, please quote Nuxaz, if you are eliminated, please exit the game station and join the spectators.

6C: IF YOU CHOSE VELITES You have made it to the enemy base! Roll 1D6
1-2: Your spear breaks when you throw it, deflected by the enemy's shield and one of the enemy heroes strikes you, taking the last of your health points. You have been eliminated! Subtract -5 points from your total.
3-4: The enemy base is within sight and is close enough you can nearly within your grasp. Your spear flies true and strikes down one of the final defending enemy heroes! Unfortunately a shot comes from the enemy base before you can cross the threshold and your screen goes black. You have been eliminated! Subtract -3 points from your total.
5-6: You throw your spear with incredible accuracy and break through the enemy's base's last defense! Congratulations! You've taken the base! Add 5 points to your total.

If you win, please quote Nuxaz, if you are eliminated, please exit the game station and join the spectators.

Prompt #: 1
POINT TALLY: ----

Testing out a new game?

Heck yeah!

Alrik Rey was one of the first in line to play because the moment he heard there was going to be a gaming convention, he made sure to take off from work and got a decent night's worth of sleep before (gotta MAXIMIZE the energy, after all).

Once he was invited to a computer, he wasted no time putting on the headphones and logging in with his favorite handle, "MastaRey".

Out of the options available, he chose Rudiarius because why wouldn't he go for the buff guy that smacked things around?

Blue team - alright, he could work with that. He preferred Horde, himself, but blue had its perks - red would just have to be dead in this game.

As soon as the game began, he barreled his way down the center pathway with his minions in tow. It took no time at all for him to hack and slash his way through the enemy's minions - ha - this crap was a piece of cake!

POINT TALLY: 11 + 5 (roll) + 5 (bonus) = 21

The goal was growing closer and closer in sight and while Alrik knew the end-game was the most important victory, he also knew that to end the game looking like the biggest badass involved earning the most points. And Alrik, without a doubt, strove to be the biggest and the baddest of the asses.

Taking a side path, Rudiarius (the Radical, as Alrik thought to himself) used what minions still at his side to totally wipe out the enemy tower on the way.

Talk about being a badass.

POINT TALLY: 21 + 2 (roll) - 3 (bonus, or lack thereof) = 20 final score

He was doing awesome, he was rockin' the melee character, he was looking like a badass even to the point where he was leaning back in his chair and playing one handed...

.... when Rudiarius suddenly got caught by a swarm of enemies and his health started to tank.

Frowning, Alrik leaned forward and put both hands back on the keyboards but it was quickly becoming obvious that he was too late to bounce back from his peacocking. He did his best to use his hearthstone-esque device to go back to the home bas --- no!!!

The character in his screen fell to his knees and the screen went ******** down the headphones, Alrik scowled at the computer screen as he rose from his chair. In an irritated huff, he stormed off towards the exit, his mood noticeably soured.

Character Name: Ciaran Cassidy
Team: Rolling
Prompt #: 1
POINT TALLY: 00 points

Ciaran had been wandering around with no real aim for anywhere. Her goal was to wait out for panels but take in all the sights while she could because there was a lot going on. Renegade was a huge studio with their hands in a lot of pies. She respected that.

She respected too, the bright haired announcer calling attention to an attraction. Whoever had chose her to gain attention had done a good job. Her hair was the most eye catching, and it really brought groups of gamers (like herself) over to see what the new indie trend was.

Her eyes lit up and she signed up for the game almost immediately, being ushered into a private room. When it prompted for a username, she chose her norm: ChasinWaterfalls

With that done, and her mark in the blue team, Ciaran chose the best character for her. Velites with his ranged spear. heh. Spear. She grinned as she settled in to play.

Character Name: Ciaran Cassidy
Team: Blue
Prompt #: 2
POINT TALLY: 2 points

Ciaran moved through the game easily enough, because all mmo's came down to it, were games. And she was a gamer. An excellent gamer. The controls for the battle sequence were interesting and her team was quite the group. When offered a path, through three different choices, she took her partner and went for the bottom.

"Yeah, we're going down down down sugar~" She sung as she moved and then yelped as something popped out and ambushed her. Since she was ranged, her weapon didn't do anything and she took some HP damage. A growl escaped and she furiously typed on the keyboard to have her partner PROTECT her while she got of the way.

Once she was far enough, she chucked the spear at the enemy before it dissipated.

"How about not letting me take ******** point ey?"

Prompt #: 3
POINT TALLY: 8 (2 + 3 + 3(Bonus)) points

Ciaran was gung-ho now. She was READY. She got a better handled on the ranged unit and with the partner she had, she was breezing through enemies. Eventually, she got to towers and took down one with a good two chuck spear to the base.

She watched HP drop instant from the tower and also saw her own HP drop and stilled. For just a moment she thought she might lose but....

"Jesus don't scare me like that, spear buddy." She patted the screen, "Okay, let's do this. We can keep going!"

Prompt #: 4
POINT TALLY: 8 + 8 (4 + 4 bonus) = 16 points

Ciaran was in the ZONE. Her team was on FIRE. They were DECIMATING towers and enemies alike. Like her capable healer, the woman was watching her characters health with a side eye and doing her best to take as little damage as she could.

This wave was the hardest and she finger mashed the keyboard with the intense focus that only a gamer could channel. If anyone could read aura's, they would see hers as a blue burning bright flame.

She only took a breath when the wave was over and sat back.

"Keep your eyes peeled boys."

Character Name: Ciaran Cassidy

Prompt #: 5
POINT TALLY: 16 + 8 (5+3 bonus) = 24 points

This was it. This was how a team rolled. This is how a group survived. They were focused. They were the best of partners. Her healer was doing their goddamn best to keep her alive as she decimated towers and villages.

She almost regretted not choosing the name Trogdor for her username, with how she was razing towers and enemies alike. She kept her communication clear with the healer before taking a deep breath.

"This is it buddy." She grinned, "Final stretch." She sat back and rolled her head. The tension in her body tightening the muscles in her body. There was something about being one of the first clearers of a game that made her more excited.

Character Name: Ciaran Cassidy
Team: Blue
Prompt #: 5
POINT TALLY: 24 + 11 (6 + 5 Bonus) = 35 points
5-6: You throw your spear with incredible accuracy and break through the enemy's base's last defense! Congratulations! You've taken the base! Add 5 points to your total.

It all came down to this moment. This time. This minute. The enemies were relentless but so was she. Ciaran made MONEY playing games, she had to be good and a pretty face. She had to be top of her skills in order to get views. She was paired with a good partner.

Victory was on her side. And it all came down to the last of this attack. An all or nothing. The final spear chuck into the enemy base. As the defense fell and HP disappeared from the other side, the girl sat back and threw her head back.

"I..." She let out some loud cheering, getting up from her seat and doing a wiggle dance and disco moves as the victory screen splayed on her console. She had won. It was a wild ride. JESUS. Whenever she got a chance though, she wanted to meet the maker and give them the biggest of highfives.

It was far too amazing.
